3 games for the Yac tomorrow.  Here's to hoping for a clean sweep! Especially in the Bronx!!

Hopefully Buffalo state and Western both win Tuesday, so we can play in the championship Wednesday  ;D

That would be nice 7.

Games on Tuesday December 29th

John Carroll  vs  Brockport State        1:00 PM   Land of Magic Classic @ Daytona Beach, Fla.

Only 17 hours after winning a 100-95 triple overtime game against Bridgewater State, the Golden Eagles are being asked to match intensity with the 10th ranked team in the county, the John Carroll Blue Streaks. Talk about having the odds stacked against you. It was going to be tough enough beating a top ten team, but now you have to play a top ten team that has the advantage of watching you play the day before. Not only that, the Blue Streaks didn't have to play the day before so they're fresh as daisies, while the Golden Eagles not only had to play that extra game but they had to play 15 minutes of overtime on top of it so now it's basically an extra game and a half. Did you follow all of that? It seems to me there could be a fairer way of scheduling these games so that one team that is playing a 2nd straight game isn't  facing a team that has yet to suit up.

The oddsmakers had made John Carroll a 9 point favorite in this game before the Golden Eagles were forced to play a triple overtime game. Now I believe the line has moved to a double digit Blue Streaks advantage. They come into this game undefeated at 9-0 and bring a solid 10 man rotation that is basically rotated 5 at a time every 3 or 4 minutes. You need to be able to match them with a closeness in substitution patterns or risk being overrun by fresh bodies. On Tuesday the fresh bodies will definitely belong to the Blue Streaks.

Brockport didn't play well n Monday against a team that they should have blown the doors off. And why they allowed the Bears to not once, but twice, bury a three pointer to send the game into another extra session puzzles me. You need to foul in that situation and prevent them from getting off a 3 pointer. Brockport allowed a 3 pointer with 2 seconds on the clock to tie the game at the end of regulation. Then allowed another 3 pointer to tie the game at the end of the 2nd overtime, this time with only 1 second on the clock. They will pay for those mistakes today against John Carroll.

I'd love nothing better than to see the Golden Eagles take down the 10th ranked team in the country and I'll be rooting for that to happen as hard as I can. What I can't do though is pick them to win this game with the odds, now more than ever against them. This game is on the schedule for the National Pick 'Em League that I belong to and I initially planned on taking Brockport because I want to root for them. Now I have to take the other team, root for Brockport and sacrifice a game in my league if they do win. But I'll gladly do that if the golden Eagles can pull off the upset here. My head says they can't even though my heart wants them to. John Carroll wins this one by a score of 84-74 and it could get ugly if the legs of the Golden Eagles tire out like I think they will. Sure hope I'm wrong though.

Buffalo State  vs  New Jersey City   4:00 PM   Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament @ Lehman College

The New Jersey Athletic Conference appears to have a number of contenders for the title this year and New Jersey City is one of the strongest. A cast of familiar characters round out the contenders with Richard Stockton, now simply known as Stockton, William Paterson, still known as William Paterson or Willie Pat, Rutgers-Newark, and the Ramapo Roadrunners all vying for that automatic bid the conference champion will get. Several teams have also added 2nd semester transfers, among them Ramapo, to help them gain some additional leverage. On Monday the Roadrunners handled a tough Skidmore team rather easily, by a 90-76 final score out in Vegas at the D3hoops.Com Classic. Rumor has it that New Jersey City may have added some 2nd semester help as well.

The Gothic Knights come into this game with a 7-2 record and are the only undefeated team left in the conference with a 5-0 record. They currently have a 1 game lead over Stockton. Their only two losses have been against a former Top 25 team, Brooklyn College, now ranked #26 and a team currently ranked #13, the Diplomats of Franklin and Marshall College. And it's the Diplomats I'm going to key on here. Earlier this year on F&M's home court, the Oneonta Red Dragons almost beat the Diplomats but a late F&M basket forced overtime and F&M escaped with a narrow victory. On a neutral court New jersey City suffered a double digit 79-67 loss to F&M. Now I don't know if the Bengals can beat Oneonta, but if I had to pick a winner in that game I would rate it as a pick em game on a neutral court. So if you think that the 2 SUNYAC rivals are fairly equal then logically you would have to think that Buffalo State might be a slight favorite over New Jersey City.

The oddsmakers have in fact made the Bengals a 1 point favorite so they are basically calling the game a tossup. What is strange is that they have have the Gothic Knights ranked as the 77th best team in Division III and the Bengals as the 104th best team in Division III. Since the game is on a neutral court (and if anything the neutral court, Lehman College in the Bronx, is much closer to New Jersey City than it is to Buffalo, so they could have more fans there than the Bengals) and there is no home court advantage, then I'm wondering why the Bengals are favored by a point instead of the Gothic Knights. I would think the handicapper would favor the team that he has ranked the stronger of the two.

Buffalo State is my choice to grab the W here but I hope the defensive effort is more in line with the Oswego game than several other games I've watched. This team with a 5-2 record could very well be and should be a perfect 7-0 going into this game. It's not the offensive part of the game that has cost them 2 wins. I'm taking the Bengals to win this one by an 83-77  final score.

Gustavus Adolphus  vs  Oneonta State        5:00 PM   @ San Juan, Puerto Rico

The Gusties played Vassar College on Monday and lost a close one to the Brewers by a 52-51 final score. That makes me think that Oneonta should handle this team by a double digit margin, yet the oddsmakers have only made the Red Dragons a very slim 1 point favorite. Let's see here... Vassar lost to New Paltz by a 70-68 final score. New Paltz lost to Potsdam State 69-54. Potsdam lost to Oneonta 87-58. Can Oneonta beat Gustavus by 46 points? Probably not but I'm betting they win by more than 1. Oneonta wins this one by a final score of 78-65.

Brockport down quick 10-2 2 minutes in. This could get very ugly. All the odds stacked against this Golden Eagles team coming into this game. Almost unfair, but that's the way the games go.

O wise and Magic 1, have I ever told you how much I admire your predictions?!?!

pg04

Brockport down 54-33 at the half. Again, because there's no video here in 2015, I can't see it. But, it seems as though they probably barely have any energy left to defend a team like JCU.

pg04

Brockport gets romped 115-94 or 117-92 whichever of the livestats score is right. No matter, not a good game.

magicman

Buffalo State out to an early double digit lead over New jersey City 25-10 after 8 minutes have gone by in the first half.

magicman

Buffalo State up at the half but once again the score is a question mark. The scoreboard shows the score to be the Bengals 55 New jersey City 45.

The live stats however has the Bengals out in front by a 55-42 score. The announcers just gave a rundown of the points that everyone on both teams has scored and when you add then up you get a 55-42 score. Maybe at halftime they may find the scoreboard is off by those 3 points. I hope so. Rather have a 13 point lead than a 10 point one.

Bengals were led by 12 points and 4 rebounds from Lovell Smith. Nico McLean has 9 points and 4 steals, while Leon Moise has 6 points and 1 wicked rebound that resulted in a nice slamma jamma on the putback.

Gothic Knights getting big games from Yuri Brutus with 11 points and Chinwe Wosu with 10 points.

They just found the scoring errors and the corrections resulted in 2 more points for Brutus so he has 13 and 1 other player's totals went from 4 to 5 points.

So the score is 55-45. Need the Bengals to stay focused this half and not give this advantage back. I've seen that happen too many times with a Bengals team. Need to play smart and keep passing the ball for the best shot to the open man, and not throw up prayers from downtown just because they have a decent lead.

magicman

Buffalo State letting this team hang around and now it's 90-88, Bengal up, with 1:21 left to play and Lovell Smith at the line after a New jersey time out.

magicman

Lovell Smith makes 2 free throws to give the Bengals a 2 possession lead. Buff State gets a turnover on the next new jersey trip down the floor and Jordan Glover is fouled.  He makes 1 of 2 to make it 93-88 and New Jersey comes down and makes a 3 pointer with 36 seconds left. Bengals Nico McLean is fouled and makes 1 of 2 to make it a 3 point lead. Bengals take a time out. Hope they foul and don't allow a three point attempt like Brockport did yesterday.

New Jersey inbounds the ball and brings it down and works it around. Bengals not fouling New jersey almost turns it over but retains possession and buries a 3 pointer with 4.5 seconds left to tie the game. I can't believe I'm seeing a deja vu of the Brockport game. You gotta foul here and take the three point play off the board. Bengals inbound the ball after a New Jersey time out but fail to get a shot off as the 3 point attempt is blocked.

OVERTIME upcoming.  This sucks. Bengals losing their bigs won't help.

magicman

Simply amazing game here as the Bengals trail the entire overtime period by as many as 9 points at 107-98 with 1:50 left to play. Bengals fought back and got it down to 3 with 11 seconds to go and once again the team that was ahead did not foul and allowed the Bengals to get off a 3 pont shot that was good and tied the game at 110 with 5 seconds left. Gothic Knights went coast to coast to try and win it but the shot was off and no foul was called sending this one into double overtime.  Bengals at a disadvantage though because they have lost 3 players including 2 of their bigs to foul disqualifications.

#6791
Bengalsrule picked a good game to go to, it sounds like! Must be on the edge of his seat  ;D. Sounds like Brockport 2.0 all over again. Hope they get the same result.

magicman

Buffalo State up 3 with 3 seconds to go. Do you think they will foul after getting burned at the end of regulation by not fouling. I hope they learned their lesson. We'll see.

No foul but they don't score and the Bengals win this one by a 119-116 final in double OT.

All-Time

Glad to see Buffalo State come back and win this one.
Championship game tomorrow against Lehman at 6pm.

Bad Loss by the Oneonta Red Dragons 55-48 to Gustavus Adolphus.
Heard they were down 33-15 at halftime.

John Carroll must be as good as advertised as they beat up on Brockport.
Brockport was never really in the game.
