Cortland starts hitting their 3 pointers and narrows the gap to a 45-42 score with 15:23 to play.

Still only up by 3 with 14:35 to go and the score 49-46 the Cardinals open up some daylight once again as they go on a 14-3 run it make it a 63-49, 14 point margin with 8:34 left in the game.

Cortland doesn't fold and fade however and has their own run of 9 straight points to make it 63-58 with 4:49 to go.

Fredonia scores to knot it up at 69 and Brockport fails to score on their next possession. 3 seconds left and it looks like overtime is quite  possible. Time out on the floor.

Fredonia races upcourt after the inbounds pass and gets off a decent shot just inside of half court, but no Brockport magic for the Blue Devils and we're headed to overtime.

Coming down to crunch tome in Cortland as the Cards are clinging to a 68-63 lead with 48 seconds left.

Cards are fouled and go to the line but miss both free throws. Fortunately they grab the rebound and the Red Dragons have to foul again. Cards' Eddie Correa makes them both and Cortland takes a timeout, now down 70 -63. 38 ticks left.

Blair Estarfaa is fouled and makes 1 of 2. Cortland fouls Correa again who makes them both and the score is now 72-64.

Corts Shayne Martinez is fouled and he makes 1 of 2 and Cortland fouls Jon Patron who also makes 1 of 2.

TJ Hefele nails a 3 pointer for the Red Dragons to narrow the lead to 73-68  and Cortland takes a time out. 15 seconds left.

Cards follow with a timeout of their own.

Cortland fouls Correa again and he makes two more free throws.. Corts then miss a 3 pointer, Cards get the rebound and it's a final score of 75-68

Plattsburgh clinches from the foul line and whips Cortland 75-68. E. Correa solid from the stripe and finishes with 16 pts. Burgh jumps out quickly and keeps RDragons at arm's length, though hosts get within three late. THREE ......some kinda number for Cortland, which goes 5x39 from beyond the arc!!!  Cortland with a goose egg for the first 5:02 of the game.

X. Thomas with 14 pts for the Cards, J. Patron 13 pts and 9 rebs. K. Richardson 9 pts, 7 rebs and 4pf. Cortland gets 16 pts(6x12fg), 5 rebs from JP Reagan. D. Hampton off the pine for 12 pts(5x8fg), 7 rebs; C. Joseph 11 pts. B. Estarfaa with 11 pts on 4x19fg, 1x12 3s!!!

Pburgh 26x55fg, 7x22 3s, 16x30ft and leads by as many as 14. Cortland takes good care of the ball and boards well after slow ignition there. Dragons 25x74fg, 5x39 3s .......5-for-39 .......11x19ft

pg04

You'll see a lot of "Missed Free throw" in the play by play of Brockport. Shameful. What a terrible game. These eggs get laid far too often.

Fredonia leads 81-80 in OT with 38 seconds to play.

Port fouls and Fredonia's Kareem Brown makes 1 of 2 to make it a 2 point margin. Brockport comes down with 17 ticks left works the ball around  and scores on a drive to the hoop by Devonn Gavin, to tie the game with 5.7 seconds left. Fredonia inbounds the ball, and gets it upcourt, then takes a timeout with 2.9 ticks left. They inbound the ball after the TO and this time they do get some Brockport magic as Dante Williams drains a 3 pointer and the Blue Devils claim the win 85-82.

Bengalsrule

It's been a while since the Buff State vs Fredonia game was labeled as "Big" but after 2 lackluster performances my beloved Bengals are faced with as much of a "must win" game in the first half of Sunyac as there could be!   Sunyac is what it is so I guess playing the best each week should bring the best out of you.  Waiting to see the best from my boys. Got a glimpse vs New Jersey City, Lehman etc.  unfortunately we don't play in the NJAC or CUNYAC.  If so then we'd probably have a much better conference record.  We play in the Sunyac and if we expect to see any hoops in March then we better get it together now!!

I believe we will!

Go BENGALS!!!!

Saturday was a Cardinal day here in the North Country for the magicman.

1. The Arizona Cardinals won their playoff game and I was rooting hard that they would do so. Larry Fitzgerald and Carson Palmer are classy guys and I actually hope they win a Superbowl. Plus I'm kinda partial to Redbirds. :D

2. The St. John Fisher Cardinals won their game against Ithaca and their best player, Keegan Ryan, is from my hometown so obviously I want him and them to do well. Fisher is 5-0 in their conference and tied for 1st place. I also have Keegan Ryan on my NCAA Futures Fantasy team so I need them to make the tournament.  With an 11-3 overall record they are still in line to get a Pool C bid should they lose in the Empire 8 tournament.

3. Last, but far from least, my Plattsburgh State Cardinals defeated defending conference champions, Oswego State on Friday and topped off the weekend by defeating Cortland State on Saturday, to continue to keep sole possession of first place in the SUNYAC conference, with a 6-0 record. At 11-2 overall they also remain in good shape for a Pool C bid should they fail to grab the automatic entry. Hopefully they will continue their solid play as the season progresses.

So yeah I was viewing the entire weekend through rose colored glasses. ;D
