5 games on Tap tonight in the SUNYAC

Does Brockport get revenge against a solid Geneseo team at home?
Geneseo is one of those teams that seems to come up Real Big at the end of games.
The last second win against Oswego this week will propel Geneseo with enough firepower to beat Brockport in another close contest.

Buffalo State at Cortland. Another revenge game as Cortland knocked off Buffalo State on their home court early in the season.
Both teams are desperate for a win here, but I see Buffalo State pulling this one out.

The Red Dragons of Oneonta have the toughest game tonight up at Memorial Hall. Not only do they have to beat the 1st place team in the conference, they have the Magicman and his Magic Wand in the stands putting bad spells on them.
Don't know if it will be the Barn Burner played up there last season with these 2 teams, but I have to pick the Red Dragons in this one, just because I'm an Oneonta fan.

New Paltz at Potsdam should be a very entertaining game. Two teams that are playing for pride here.
I have Potsdam winning this one at home.

Fredonia at Oswego
Very tough lose for Oswego this week at Geneseo. I watched the game and definitely thought they were going to win after Brian Sortinos jump shot  with 19 seconds left but them up by 1. But a last second drive to the hoop by Kevin Crockett drive sealed the win. Oswego has been playing much better and I see them winning this game by double digits.

Enjoy the craziness.

Friday February 5th  All ten teams in action in the SUNYAC

Brockport State  at  Geneseo State        7:30 PM

Round Two of this year's series promises to be a continuation of last Friday night's contest. In that one Brockport's  Clifton Lyerly scored with 14 seconds remaining to tie the game at 57, looking to send the game to an extra session. John Decker would have none of that, however, as he buried a 3 pointer with 4 seconds left and Geneseo did the smart thing by fouling Devonn Gavin to prevent any game tying 3 pointer at the buzzer. He made the 1st one and missed the 2nd but the Knights got the rebound to end it.

Since then Brockport took out Cortland and Geneseo won another last second decision over Oswego. The Knights can't afford a loss if they hope to catch Plattsburgh for the top seed. Brockport can't afford to falter if they want to stay ahead of the teams closing in on them for the final playoff spot. A loss tonight and they could be in 7th place after Saturday's games.

Brockport had won 8 of the past 10 meetings going into this year. The Knights are looking to sweep the season series for the 1st time since 2008-09. For some strange reason the oddsmakers have made Brockport the road favorite in this game by a slim 2 point margin. The Knights are ranked 17 spots higher than the Golden Eagles and they did beat Brockport in Brockport. That usually translates into the home team being favored in the rematch. The unknown variable is the gametime status of Port's leading scorer, Hamed Shamseldin. He missed the last game against Cortland and had limited minutes the first time they played Geneseo.

Brockport has shown that playing on the road is no big deal as they have went 4-1 away from home in the YAC. Still, I'm impressed with Geneseo and their ability to come through down the stretch. I expect another close game but think that Geneseo will prevail in this one by a 76-73 final score.

New Paltz State  at  Potsdam State        7:30 PM

Two teams playing for pride. The Hawks playing with revenge in mind also as they became the Bears only victim this year so far. Looking at Potsdam's remaining games I don't see any games I can put in the win column. The possibility of an upset can't be overlooked of course, but they have nothing but playoff contending teams left, and none of those teams can afford to lose to the last place team, if they hope to make the conference tournament. The real possibility exists of a 1-24 season for the Bears.

New Platz has come alive recently with a pair of upsets over Buff State and Cortland. Tonight won't be an upset, if they win, as the point spread favors the Hawks by a 6 point margin. As much as I'd like to see my alma mater win another game I just can't pick them to do so here. New Paltz takes this one by a 75-68 final.

Buffalo State  at  Cortland State        7:30 PM

Another game with huge implications in the standings, as these teams jockey for positioning as they come into the stretch run. Cortland, currently in a 4th place tie with Brockport at 6-5 could find themselves in 7th place after this weekend. Buffalo State, a half game back in 6th place, needs a win here and most importantly tomorrow, against Oswego, to give them a leg up on a playoff spot. If they go 0-2 this weekend I think their chances of making the playoffs will disappear.

Cortland coming in with their first losing streak of the season having dropped back to back conference games. The Bengals got healthy against Potsdam after dropping two in a row. Last time these two met, the Red Dragons got a 3 point buzzer beater from JP Reagan to win in overtime, in Buffalo. That came just seconds after Nico McLean had made a jumper that looked to give the Bengals the win. Revenge will certainly be on the minds of the Orange and Black tonight. These teams have split the season series every year since the conference went to a double round robin with the exception of 2 years. In 2012-13 Cortland went to the 2nd round of the NCAA's  and beat Buff State twice that season. In 2010-11 Buffalo State went to the Sweet 16 and beat Cortland State twice that season. The oddsmakers must have discovered what I did as they have made Buffalo State a 1 point road favorite. The last time the score was Cortland 84 Buffalo state 83 in overtime. This time the score will be Buffalo State 80 Cortland State 77 in regulation.

Fredonia State  at  Oswego State        7:30 PM

The Blue Devils gave the Lakers all they could handle when they played them back in early December. Fredonia got a rebound with 7 seconds left and the game tied but couldn't get off a final shot to win it and the game went into overtime. Oswego won it at the foul line in the extra session. This time the game is in Laker Hall and I'll be surprised if the Blue Devils can keep it in single digits. Oswego can't afford any slip ups here, in a game they are supposed to win.

The oddsmakers have made the Lakers a double digit 11 point favorite in this one. Fredonia has been playing much better in 2016 going 5-5, after a 1-7 start in 2015. The fact that they own wins over Brockport and Geneseo shows that they can play with anyone in this league, on any given night. I don't think it will be tonight though. Lakers win this one 79-67.

Oneonta State  at  Plattsburgh State        7:30 PM  Featured Game of the Night

The Red Dragons invade Memorial Hall looking to repeat their visit of a year ago when they took down the Cardinals on their home court. That game ended a 14 game winning streak that  Plattsburgh had over the Red Dragons dating back over 8 years. Now the Cardinals have won the last 2 in a row to start another streak.

Two weeks ago it looked like the YAC might come down to the Cardinals against the Red Dragons and this rematch might have had a lot more on the line. It's still a huge game for both teams but it's not 1 versus 2 as the Red Dragons are closer to 4th and 5th place than they are to 1st place. Plattsburgh needs to protect homecourt  in their upcoming 5 game homestand. They have proven they can win away from home, as they are currently 7-0 as road warriors.

Oneonta has dropped 3 of their last 5 conference games to fall behind Geneseo in the standings. They certainly would like to get that first round bye but if that eludes them they would like to secure a home playoff game in the first round. Plattsburgh would like to stay in the comfort zone they have built up, with that 2 game lead over Geneseo. Knowing they have to end the regular season on the Knights' home court, they would like nothing more than for that to be a meaningless game.

The oddsmakers have made the Cardinals a slim 3 point favorite in this one, despite the fact that Plattsburgh won in Oneonta by 18. The Red Dragons have won at Geneseo and at Brockport so winning in the 'Burgh is just another step they have to take. The Cardinals should be ready for this challenge especially after allowing Brockport to come in and steal one.  I'm taking Plattsburgh to win this one by an 83-78 final.

Cortland wins  63-62 over Buffalo St. at 0:05 on that man JP Reagan two FTs. Twas Reagan 3-pointer to disappoint Bengals in first meeting OT contest. Buff State in rematch misses shot at the horn. Bengals up 62-61 on L. Smith bucket at 1:28. Both teams miss FTs down the stretch and Cortland doesn't score FG in final 6:38. RDragons lead most of the final period after trailing 30-28 in fast and loose opening period. Host RDragons by seven with 9:37 left.  B. Estarfaa keys hosts offense. M. Henry pulls BS within 57-55 at 5 minute mark. Corts stretch to 61-55 on Estarfaa FTs at 3'. N. McLean hoop, D. Graver free throws and Smith hoop close the gap before Smith puts Bengals ahead. The senior first-time Dragon Reagan clutch as usual. Finishes with 13 pts(4x8fg, 4x4ft) in 27', Estarfaa 23 pts(7x14fg, 7x8ft) in 36', and  steadying backcourt hand TJ Hefele 11 pts in 31'. Smith winds up with 17 pts, 11 rebs in 32'; Henry 10 pts, 9 rebs, 5pf in 32'; McLean 11 pts in 36'

Plattsburgh 92, Oneonta 87, final. Oneonta 36-33 at half and by double figures in the second half

New Paltz 94, Potsdam 80, final

Brockport 79, Geneseo 67, final

Oswego 77, Fredonia 61, final

Another good win for the Golden Eagles.

I'm starting to gain some confidence that they have a better than average shot at winning the conference tourney. I think they can beat any of the teams in a one game scenario. They've had an odd season in home vs. away (as was alluded to in a previous post) --- they've won at Plattsburgh, at Buffalo State, at Geneseo, and at Oswego. But then they've lost at Fredonia and at home 4 times. Some of the losses have been of the head scratching variety as well.

Plattsburgh State 92    Oneonta State 87

I said this was going to be an 83-78 Plattsburgh State win and with less than a minute to go the score was 84-77 The Red Dragons were in the full out foul mode, though, and the two teams combined for 18 points in the final 44 seconds. That's a heck of a lot points in 44 seconds. Anyway it was still a 5 point margin which is exactly what I told Mikey McElroy it was going to be. I ran into him  just before game time, as he was waiting to take the court once the ladies game got over. He saw my Saratoga hat and made a comment (Mikey's from Saratoga)and I said congratulations. He said for what...and I said for hitting the 1000 point mark a couple of weeks ago. We talked about the game, how many NCAA bids the YAC might get, and the revelation that he was talking with the magicman. He was a nice young man and he had an excellent game finishing with a double-double. I came away from the evening impressed with just how good Oneonta is this year. For the better part of the night I was resigning myself to the fact that they were once again going to walk out of Memorial Hall with a W.

The Red Dragons got out of the blocks faster than Usain Bolt. After the Cardinals Kyle Richardson opened the scoring with a jumper, Oneonta tied it with one from McElroy. Jack Dignan buried a 3 pointer, Jackson Zuvic followed with a layup and Dignan drained another three. Richardson got loose and jammed one home for the Cards, but Seth Thomsen scored on a drive for Oneonta and Zuvic exhibited his range with a three pointer to make it 15-4, forcing the Cardinal's Coach Curle to signal for a time out with 15 minutes still left in the period.

Plattsburgh would close the gap to 21-18 by the 9:05 mark but the Red Dragons got back to back jumpers from Kareem Williams, a pair of free throws from Thomsen, and a 3 pointer from Ian Schupp to bump the lead to 30-18 with 6:26 left in the half. It would be the largest lead of the game for either team.

After each team scored to make it 32-20 Plattsburgh responded with a 10-0 run of their own  to get them as close as they would be, since the opening minute of the period. The Red Dragons ended the half, the same way as they started it...with a Mikey McElroy jumper and the Cards got 1 of 2 from the line by Ed Correa to make the halftime score 36-33 in favor of Oneonta.

The 2nd half opened with a deja vu moment as Mikey McElroy swished a jumper, 20 seconds after the start. 20 seconds later he hit another jumper from downtown. After the Cardinals came up empty on their 3rd straight possession, Seth Thomsen buried a three and the lead was back to 11 points at 44-33. Jon Patron scored for Plattsburgh, but Lawrence Coleman answered with another 3 for the Red Dragons and they had equaled their largest lead of the game at 47-35. The Cards responded with 6 straight points to cut the difference in half, but over the next 5 minutes the Red Dragons continued to lead by a 5 to 9 point margin.

Down 53-44 after yet another Oneonta 3 pointer, this one from Jack Dignan, with 14 minutes remaining, the Cardinals got a basket from Jon Patron to cut the lead to 7. On the next Oneonta possession Kyle Richardson fired up the crowd and the Cardinals, as he blocked a shot, recovered the ball and went the length of the court for a resounding dunk. It was the turning point of the game. He followed that up by stealing the ball on the next Red Dragon trip downcourt and was on the verge of another giant slam when he was intentionally fouled but the ref ruled it was on the floor before the shot. All the Cards got was an inbounds pass, but Richardson made good on the possession, when he got the ball down low, and put it in for the 2 points that he was denied seconds earlier on the disputed foul. Oneonta's Lawrence Coleman made a trip to the line and hit a pair of free throws to make it 55-50 but the Cardinals were just warming up. Over the next 4 minutes Plattsburgh unleashed the full monty as all 5 Cardinal players on the floor scored, and they went on a 17-2 tear that gave them a 67-57 lead with 7:35 left in the game.

Oneonta, to their credit didn't go away, and fought back to make it 73-70 on another Jackson Zuvic 3 pointer with 3:38 to play. The Cardinals then got a drive by Eli Bryant, a 3 pointer by Ed Correa, and a big offensive rebound by Kyle Richardson, off a missed Cardinal free throw, which he turned into another 2 points, and the lead was once again double figures at 80-70 with 2:03 to go. The Cardinals hit 10 of 12 from the line down the stretch, but the 3 point shooting by the Red Dragons kept it interesting as they closed to within a single point at 88-87 after Coleman hit a long 3 pointer with 17 seconds to go. Eli Bryant then went to the line for Plattsburgh and hit 2 foul shots to give them a 3 point cushion with 9 ticks remaining. Oneonta missed a 3 point attempt and fouled one last time which made the 5 point margin of victory.

Plattsburgh had 4 players reach double figures led by Kyle Richardson and Jon Patron who both recorded double-doubles. Richardson had his 11th double-double of the season with 22 points and 12 rebounds. He added 3 blocks, 2 big steals and 1 assist.

Patron posted his 3rd double-double of the season as he poured in 20 points and grabbed a game high 15 rebounds. Both he and Richardson scored 14 points in the 2nd half to lead the Cardinal comeback.

Eli Bryant once again came up big for Plattsburgh off the bench. He totaled 18 points and has now scored in double figures in 4 straight games and 6 of the last 8. His points per game average has steadily risen from 7.3 to a season high of 10.1 giving the Cardinals a total of 5 players, now averaging double digits.

Ed Correa had 17 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists as the senior guard continues to lead the team in minutes played and made 3 pointers, as he drained 3 more bombs tonight.

Xavier Thomas had 6 points and 9 rebounds, as his high flying act constantly brings the crowd to their feet. Not many teams have a 6'2" player jumping center on the opening tip off. He wins the tip more often than not, as he did tonight.

Plattsburgh only shot 12x42 in the first half but turned things around and went 20x36 in the 2nd period to end up a respectable 41%for the game. They were 5x17 (29.4%) from long distance and 23x36 (63.9%) from the line. Oneonta got the better of them as the Red Dragons were 31x75 from the field (41.3%), 13x30 from long range (43.3%) and 12x14 from the line (85.7%).

The Cardinals had a significant advantage off the glass as they had 57 rebounds to 41 for Oneonta, due to Patron, Richardson and Thomas accounting for 36 of those boards. It also gave the Cardinals 26 second chance points to only 17 for the visitors. Both teams scored 12 points off turnovers as Plattsburgh gave up the rock 11 times to 9 for Oneonta.

Oneonta also had 4 players reach double figures with sharpshooter Jack Dignan capturing game honors with 24 points. He was 7x12 from the field and 4x4 from the line. More importantly he was 6x8 from downtown. His foot must have been on the line for the other field goal he had. ;) He also dished out 6 assists had 5 rebounds and a steal.

Mikey McElroy had a double-double with 13 points, a team high 11 rebounds 2 assists and a steal.

Lawrence Coleman had 14 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, a block and a steal.

Jackson Zuvic added 10 points, 2 rebounds and a block while Seth Thomsen had 7 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal.

Kareem Williams came off th bench to score 8 points and grab 3 boards in 19 minutes of court time. Ian Schupp had 7 points in 11 minutes of action. He only took 3 shots and made all 3. Personally I was glad to see the coaching staff only give him 4 minutes in the 2nd half.

The fans in Memorial Hall got treated to another good game that went right down to the wire as so many games in our conference seem to be doing this year. The number of 1 or 2 possession games that have been played this year among our 10 teams is amazing. I continue to thank the basketball gods that the Cardinals have been on the winning end of so many of the nailbiters that they have been involved in.

Plattsburgh is now 16-3 overall and has taken a commanding lead in the conference race with an 11-1 record. With Geneseo's loss on Friday to Brockport, the Cardinals now have a full 3 game lead over the Knights with 6 games left to play. Three other teams, Oneonta,  Cortland, and Brockport,  are 4 games back and are tied with 7-5 records.

The Cardinals will welcome New Paltz to the 'Burgh later today for a 4 PM start time. The Hawks are coming off a win against Potsdam on Friday evening.

Oneonta is now 12-7 overall and 7-5 in the YAC. They hope to get back on the right track when they make the 90 mile trip down Route 11 to Potsdam. That game will also start at 4 PM. The Red Dragons have one thing going for them...they can still come in 2nd place and get a first round bye should the Cardinals secure the top seed. Oneonta doesn't need any help to do so either. With games left against the pair they are tied with and Geneseo, in front of them, they control their own destiny. And all three of those games will take place in Oneonta. After watching them play tonight I wouldn't bet against them.

Saturday February 6th 4 games on tap for today

Fredonia State  at  Cortland State        4:00 PM

The Red Dragons are coming off another last second win over Buffalo State. Now they have to avoid the big letdown as they host the Blue Devils, a team they have already beaten this year by 24 points. Last week they defeated Oneonta on Friday night in a close game and the next day they hosted New Paltz, a team they had already beaten by 31 points a few weeks earlier. The Hawks took it to them and won 80-74. That was a game the Red Dragons would like to replay, as it could come back to haunt them down the road. Now, today, the same scenario presents itself again. Sitting in a 3 way tie for 3rd place in the conference, every game takes on added importance with so few remaining. A loss here, with the conference so tightly bunched after Plattsburgh State, could mean a playoff berth or possibly a road game if they make the playoffs, instead of playing in front of the home fans.

The point spread has the Red Dragons favored by a 10 point margin. They should win by more than that. I think the final score will be Cortland 79 Fredonia 63.

Oneonta State  at  Potsdam State    4:00 PM

This is another game that has the potential for a letdown on the part of these Red Dragons. Oneonta beat Potsdam 87-58 earlier this season. The Red Dragons have to be disappointed that they allowed Plattsburgh to come back and grab a win yesterday. But if they don't pay attention to the task at hand the Bears could make them pay. The point spread favors Oneonta by a 23 point margin and if the Red Dragons take out their frustrations on the Bears it will be a long day for Potsdam. I think it will be a long day for Potsdam ...Oneonta wins this one 92-68.

Buffalo State  at  Oswego State        4:00 PM Featured Game of the Day

I really think that 1 of these 2 teams will be sitting at home on Tuesday February 23rd and it won't be due to the fact that they have a first round bye, either. Oswego is currently in 6th place and Buffalo State is a half game behind in 7th place. If Buffalo State wins today they will move a half game in front of Oswego but because they will have swept the season series it's like a one and a half game lead. If the Bengals lose they will be squarely behind the 8 ball and their playoff hopes will be on life support.

The Lakers are 5-2 in their last 7 games in the YAC after starting out 1-4. Part of that turnaround is the increased playing time of Mykelle Krecko. The Lakers are 4-0 in conference games that Krecko has played at least 19 minutes. They are 2-6 in conference games that he hasn't. I think the Bengals may get a healthy dose of Krecko this afternoon, something they didn't have to deal with in their earlier matchup.

The oddsmakers have made the Lakers a slight 2 point home favorite. I'm not sure if the Bengals can win in Laker Hall, its been 6 years since they last did so. I'll go with the Lakers to protect their home court once again. Oswego 75 Buffalo State 72.

New Paltz State  at  Plattsburgh State        4:00 PM

Plattsburgh can't afford a letdown here after taking care of business yesterday. The Hawks are hungry and would love to play spoiler since they won't be partaking in post season play. Mathematically they are still alive but they would have to win their last 6 games and that's not about to happen. The oddsmakers have listed Plattsburgh as a 17 point favorite. That sounds pretty close to my calculations. Plattsburgh 87 New Platz 69.

All-Time

Predictions for todays games:

Plattsburgh all over New Paltz

Cortland over Fredonia in a game that will be closer then most people think

Oneonta all over Potsdam

Buffalo State over Oswego in a game that goes down to the final minute. Buff State is all to familiar with these situations, today is the day they pull out the nail biter.

Enjoy the craziness.

Cortland wins 81-76 over Fredonia but quite the struggle considering RDragons with 41-20 lead at 3:38 of the first half! Was tied at 69 with 3:26 left in the contest on Devil K. Jackson hoop. B. Estarfaa and JP Reagan FTs send RDragons on top. Freds within 72-71 at 2:03 on K. Brown basket. CSt free throws close it out with Fredonia getting final deuce at 0:03. Fredonia never leads but ties at 67 at 4:33 on I. Helps' 29th point. RDragons pull reversal on C. Joseph hoop. Foul shots get Cortland to the finish line.
Dragons had their foot off the pedal late in the half with a scratch-your-head lineup of down-the-liners. Freds take advantage, close within 14 at the half and certainly grow in confidence. I. Helps with 29 (11x16fg), 6 rebs for the Devils. JP Reagan leads the hosts with 17 (5x14fg) matched by Estarfaa (3x12fg), Joseph with 13 pts and 10 rebs, J. Morales 11 pts
Cortland takes another personnel hit. Swingman J. Cooper misses his third straight game

Plattsburgh 102, New Paltz 64, concluded

Oswego 75, Buffalo St. 71, final. Twas OSt by 34-32 at half

Oneonta 84, Potsdam 68, final

Toughest ride home of the season. My kingdom for 2 points yesterday and or 5 pts today.  Geneseo game Tuesday is a important game.  I'd say critical but Bradley Doyley has taught me the difference!

Plattsburgh State 102   New Paltz State 64

The Cardinals haven't been very gracious to their home fans this year, as they've developed a habit of digging themselves a big hole before staging their nightly version of Harry Houdini's escape act. The last 4 times the Cardinals have taken the floor at Memorial Hall, and in 5 of the 6 games played there in 2016, their fans have been on the edge of their seats far longer than they would like to be. Yesterday afternoon the Cardinals answered the bell as they came out swinging and didn't stop until the final buzzer.

Ed Correa opened the scoring with one of his long range bombs, the first of his 6 three pointers in the game as Plattsburgh raced to a 9-0 lead. A few possessions later it was 16-3 and this game was basically over 4 minutes and thirty seconds after it started. The Plattsburgh lead just kept growing as the Cardinals, up 23-12, used a 17-2 run to make it 40-14 with 9 minutes still left in the half. The coaching staff went to the bench often, and almost half the minutes played in the first half for the Cardinals, came from the reserves. The halftime score was 56-32 and Plattsburgh had 3 players in double figures by the break.

The 2nd half was more of the same as the Cardinals' lead reached 30 points and several of the Plattsburgh starters were firmly ensconched on the bench, 6 minutes into the period. The Cardinal reserves got lots of playing time and 13 players hit the scoring column. The last 4 Plattsburgh baskets were scored on two drives by Matt Fields, and 2 more by Owen Mitchell, that put the Cardinals over the century mark for the first time since December 3rd, 2013.

Plattsburgh was led by senior Ed Correa with 24 points (7x11 fg, 6x8 3's, 4x4 ft), 3 rebounds and 2 assists.

Kyle Richardson, well on his way to another double-double after a 13 point first half, got very little court time in the 2nd period, because of the big lead and ended up with 15 points and 6 rebounds.

Jon Patron also had double figures at the half and played very little after that. He ended up with 13 points and 7 rebounds.

The X-Man, Xavier Thomas, led the team with 12 rebounds as his crowd pleasing, high flying act, reached a new level, with a putback jam from a missed Ed Correa jumper. Taking flight from the foul line the X-Man grabbed the ball in midair and slammed it home from above the rim all in one motion. It was probably the most athletic play I've ever seen him accomplish. It was an MJ move worthy of an ESPN Top Ten play.
Xavier only scored 6 points, going 3x6 from the field, but also had 4 assists, 2 blocks and a steal.

Eli Bryant had 9 points off the bench in only 11 minutes of playing time.

Chris Middleton had 7 points, 4 rebounds 2 steals and 2 assists in 15 minutes.

Brandon Johnson had 7 points, 2 rebounds, 2 steals and 1 assist in 9 minutes.

Isaiah Hill had 6 points in 6 minutes, Matt Fields had  4 points in 5 minutes and Owen Mitchell had 4 points with 5 rebounds in 9 minutes.

Plattsburgh shot 57.1% from the field (36x63), 61.5% from the three point line (8x13) and 68.8% from the line (22x32). The Hawks were trailing in all 3 areas, going 32.9% from th field (24x73), 33.3% from distance (9x27) and 58.3% from the line (7x12)

Plattsburgh dominated the glass by a 52 to 34 margin which led to 23 2nd chance points. The Cardinals bench scored 52 of their 102 points. Plattsburgh had 15 turnovers and the Hawks had 18.

Nick Paquette had 13 points to lead the Hawks in scoring. Cory Garcia was the only other player in double figures as he had 10 points, 5 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 assists.

Brandon Tolliver led New Paltz with 8 rebounds, to go with his 4 points, a steal and a block. Andrew Seniuk had 9 points and Brandon Guest had 8.

Plattsburgh improves to 17-3 overall and 12-1 in the SUNYAC. They have opened up a 3 and a half game lead over Geneseo. The Cardinals have clinched a playoff berth and are getting closer to their goal of gaining the top seed for the conference tournament. They will return to action this coming weekend when they host Cortland on Friday evening and Oswego on Saturday afternoon.

New Paltz is now 4-15  for the season and 3-10 in the YAC. The Hawks will host Oswego State on Tuesday at 7:30 PM.

The new D3hoops Top 25 has been released and Plattsburgh State, as expected after a 2-0 week, moved up 2 spots to #22. Their point total increased from 45 to 130.

Lancaster Bible continues to be the top rated East Region team at #15, but as I mentioned earlier they have reached a level that will be hard to eclipse because of their strength of schedule. They were #15 last week with 222 points and gained 17 points this week, yet failed to move up any higher.

NYU gained 13 points from last week and now has a total of 37, good enough for the #26 spot in the Other Receiving Votes category.

Rochester gets their first mention of the year after beating ranked Chicago over the weekend and cracks the poll with 2 points.

No other East Region team is mentioned.
