Funny Stuff Magicman

It always seems to come down to these 2 teams the last couple of seasons for the final playoff spot.

Both of these teams have missed out on numerous opportunities to win games they should have won.

I don't think your crystal ball should have to endure the inconsistent play of these 2 teams on picking a winner.

I honestly think this game is a toss up. Hopefully both of these teams come to play and play to their talented potential.
It should be a BARN BURNER and let the best team win.

The SUNYAC this season has been full of surprises each and every night. Just when you think you have it all figured out something crazy happens.

There isn't that much time left in the regular season as teams continue to fight to get into conference tournaments and position themselves for hopefully NCAA tournament bids. Second round of Regional Rankings are also out with plenty of answers... and questions. Plus, some teams are putting on some shows recently including a lot of buzzer beaters!

On Thursday night's Hoopsville, Dave McHugh rolls up his sleeves and takes a look at what is happening as we head into the last ten days of the regular season. McHugh will also get some insight on Wednesday's insane men's basketball game between Lynchburg and No. 21 Roanoke. Plus, get a preview of the NESCAC men's and women's tournaments along with talking to ranked teams on both the men's and women's side.

Hoopsville hits the air at 7:00 pm ET and promises to go at least 2 1/2 hours. You can watch the show here: http://www.d3hoops.com/hoopsville/archives/2015-16/feb18

Guests scheduled (in order of appearance):
- Alex Graves, Lynchburg senior forward
- Howard Herman, Berkshire Eagle, NESCAC tournaments preview
- Brian Morehouse, No. 3 Hope women's coach
- Bill Broderick, No. 16 Christopher Newport women's coach
- Tom Curle, No. 23 Plattsburgh State men's coach
- Eric Bridgeland, No. 9 Whitman men's coach

Plattsburgh State coach Tom Curle was a guest on Hoopsville tonight. Nice interview by Dave McHugh discussing the team and the SUNYAC with the coach. You can access the interview on demand by clicking on this link and advancing the video to the 1:38 mark. That's 1 hour and 38 minutes into the program.

Perfect for the Magicman and his Magic Wand

Memorial Hall will be rocking next weekend

Should be a Fantastic Finish in what has been a wild wild season

Plus K to both of you.

So you guys have given me quite a dilemma. Was rooting for Mikey McElroy and the Oneonta Red Dragons to get in the playoffs and hopefully make a return trip to the 'Burgh.

Have always rooted for my Bengal friend along with Jordan Glover and his teammates to get back up here to the North Country as well.

Now you could play each other for the final piece of the puzzle, if you both win Friday night. (Which is not a given) My crystal ball may have a breakdown if I have to choose between the Bengals and the Red Dragons on Saturday. I'm not a happy camper that I'm about to be placed in this position. :P ::)

I'm pulling for a "crystal ball breakdown"!!!   ::)

At 10 pm this evening God called 1 of his young men home. Bradley Doyley has passed away. At 21 years of age, it just doesn't seem right. You will be missed. God knows best!

Go Bradley......forever!

Plattsburgh State's Tom Curle made a point of mentioning him tonight on Hoopsville when I neglected to per the challenging season in the SUNYAC. My thoughts are with his family and the basketball family at Buffalo State.

Champ,
That's is not the news that I was hoping to hear coming out of Buffalo. So sad and the worst thing is the circumstances that caused his illness to begin with. So senseless. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family at this time.

Too many tragic incidents in the SUNYAC this season.  No more please.

with age came?

Sometimes we just aren't able to see the plan...Thoughts and prayers to all concerned especially to those who loved Bradley.

Thanks pg. All of the school is pretty down right now.  News came to shoot around and already certain allegations have been published about cause of death. Mother and father are still in shock. Some of Bradleys family members plan on attending game tonight. Moment of silence before tip off in honor of Bradley is gonna be tough.  Real tough. Not much else to say!

I can't imagine what the parents are going through, nor the team for that matter, who need to fight to get into the SUNYACs. I read the story and it's terrible no matter what the cause but I hope they are able to find closure in what happened and if there was something nefarious that it gets taken care of.

My hope (not that I'm rooting against other teams) is that Buffalo State can use this as a "do it for Bradley" scenario and sweep the weekend.

Friday February 19th    5 games...Playoff  implications in all of them.

New Paltz State  at  Buffalo State      7:30 PM

The Bengals will be looking for some payback in this one as they lost to the Hawks back on Jan. 23rd. That loss to the Hawks may cost the Bengals a playoff spot. There is still a door open for Buffalo State, however thanks to Oneonta's recent slide. If the Bengals win tonight and beat Oneonta tomorrow afternoon they will claim the final playoff positon for the SUNYAC tournament. The oddsmakers know that the Bengals have much more on the line than the Hawks do and have made the Orange and Black a 13 point favorite. The Bengals have heavy hearts as they lost one of their own last night when Bradley Doyley passed away. Tonight they will be playing for Bradley, and playing for a spot in the tournament. They win this one by a 90-74 final score.

Potsdam State  at  Geneseo State      7:30 PM

The Knights have a chance at the 2nd seed in the YAC and they aren't about to let the Bears stand in their way. A classic trap game as the Cardinals are up next and the Knights will be focused on them, but they still have too many weapons to lose to Potsdam. The Bears will be playing on one days rest and that was a 6 hour bus ride. Geneseo is favored by 18 points, they could win by more. The Knights coaching staff would love to see his starters resting comfortably on the bench early in the 2nd half. Potsdam beats the spread as the Knights win this one 84-68.

Oswego State  at  Cortland State      7:30 PM   Co-featured Game if the Day

Oswego can still win the 2nd seed and so can Cortland but they both will need help from Plattsburgh over the next 2 games. The winner of this one will get, at the very least, a home playoff game on Tuesday night in the quarterfinals. Cortland won the last meeting in Oswego so he Lakers will surely want to return the favor. Both teams playing perhaps their best ball of the season at the right time. Cortland has won 5 of their last 6 games with the only loss at the hands of Plattsburgh in the 'Burgh. Oswego, winners of 6 straight hasn't been swept by any YAC opponent this season and won't want the Red Dragons to have that honor.

The oddsmakers have made the road team a 3 point favorite here, and I don't think they even know that the Lakers have 1 more day of rest that Cortland, because of the weather related schedule changes earlier in the week. Both teams with big wins this week and Oswego with a chance to move up in the Regional Rankings next Wednesday with a win tonight. I can see them moving into 3rd place in those rankings as a definite possibility. If the Top 2 teams, Plattsburgh and Rochester, get automatic bids, the 3rd place team will be the one sitting at the table when the NCAA selection process starts to pick the 19 Pool C teams.

Corey Gymnasium is a tough place to play but Oswego has won there 4 of the past 5 years. Cortland has already lost 3 home conference games this year and tonight the Lakers will make it number 4. Oswego wins this one by a 78-73 final score.

Oneonta State  at  Fredonia State      7:30 PM

Oneonta can only make tomorrow's game worth something if they win tonight. And of course if they do win this game and the Hawks upset the Bengals again, then these Red Dragons will clinch the final playoff spot. Oneonta would seem to have Fredonia's number here, as they overwhelmed the Blue Devils by a 95-66 margin 4 weeks ago. Remember, they also laid a big number on Oswego 90-52, only to have the Lakers win the next go around. So nothing is a given, especially with the way that Fredonia has improved as the season has progressed and the Red Dragons have struggled lately. They haven't beaten a team with a winning record in 6 weeks. Fortunately for Oneonta, Fredonia doesn't have a winning record.

The oddsmakers have made the Red Dragons an 11 point favorite here and Mr. McElroy and friends better concentrate on the game at hand and worry about the Bengals later or the Blue Devils will lead them straight to hell. I think that Oneonta has too many seniors that don't want their season to end without a chance to make the YAC tournament. I'll take Oneonta here, by an 86-75 final score.

Plattsburgh State  at  Brockport State      7:30 PM Co-featured Game of the Day

Plattsburgh may have clinched the top seed but the Cardinals know all too well that the NCAA doesn't give you a free pass for winning the regular season championship. A pair of losses this weekend along with an early loss in the YAC tournament and all the good things the Cards have done this year may well go up in smoke. Plattsburgh is still smarting from a Golden Eagle victory when these teams met back on January 23rd.

Brockport is still hoping for the #2 seed and a win tonight would, barring a major upset by the Bears tomorrow, give them that sought after prize, regardless of what anyone else does, as they would hold the tiebreaker over everyone. The Eagles stumbled the other night in Cortland and would like to have that one back but they still control their own destiny.

The oddsmakers have made the Cardinals a slight 2 point favorite in this one and the guys promised me they would take care of business this weekend. Plattsburgh and Brockport love to win on each others home court as they have done so often. The Cardinals have won there in 2 of the past 3 years and I'm hoping they can do so again. Plattsburgh wins 80-76.
