Fran,

Thanks for making it semiofficial. I certainly think that Oswego will host. I remember a few years ago when the hosting site went to Rochester even though Middlebury was the one who should have received that prize, but didn't because of the travel situation.

Sorry about the Red Dragons close loss tonight at Amherst. Seems like we always have to play there. One of these years we'll get them in a YAC house. Tell the guys it was a great run for them, the past 2 weeks. Wish I could have seen the last 2 games.

Actually... Middlebury and St. Mary's where both #1 regionally ranked teams... if memory serves, I think the criteria favored SMC, but it was really close. Either way it went to #5 Rochester. That was to save ONE flight. This is to save two or three! There are already two guarunteed flights this coming weekend... they can't get away with asking for two or three more... it will be one and at Wooster - but we have to wait until tomorrow morning to be sure.

Dave, if Wooster hosts there would be 2 flights. Oswego is the only possible host that would require only 1 flight.

#7607
Great final couple of minutes going on in the last game of the day. Whitworth and Whitman84-83 under a minute to go. Whitman upset in the making?

Whitman up 3 with 19 seconds to go and a timeout. Whitworth has the ball and will need to go for a quick 2 or set up a 3 pointer.

Kenny Love buries a 3  6 seconds after the time out to tie it up.

Christian McDonald hits a jumper with 2.6 seconds left to put Whitman back in front by 2.

Inbounds pass intercepted by Whitman and Whitworth is going home as the Missionaries pull off the upset. Final score 88-86.

Sorry pg04.

This will officially kill me as upsets will destroy my first 4 drafted players. Along with 2 others gone in toss up games.

I can't believe it. Whitworth lost. LOL.

On the upside, a tremendous first weekend for the tournament.

Yeah Dave, We think it will be Oswego. Fran is right. 2 flights to Wooster, only one if it's Oswego.

I COMPLETELY miswrote that... I apologize. I meant Oswego as my tweets tonight can attest.

Well that's fine but I don't do tweets. ;D However I did feel you were simply mixing up Oswego and Wooster, because if anyone knows the geography and the flights it's usually you.

Dave 'd-mac' McHugh

Yeah - brain is mush. I am in a wonderful bar in Marietta right now... I was waiting for video to upload, while watching the Whitworth game, and had seven other conversations in my head... while my contacts remind me it has been too long without them coming out... I was thinking about Wooster and it ended up being written when I meant Oswego. Sorry for the confusion.

And magic... you couldn't do Twitter... character restrictions would kill you. They handcuff me!

I figured you just misspoke Dave. Doesn't happen to you often!  :)

Do you remember a more parity-laden first two rounds in recent years compared to this one?

Character restrictions...I'll have you know I have high moral fiber!

Dave 'd-mac' McHugh

Nope.. and I am proud to say I called it. With this must parity all season, the tournament was bound to be wide open. I love it as much as I can't keep track of it. LOL

Thanks for giving me the benefit of doubt... I am just so tired on top of everything. This is a much more challenging season because of outside factors than ever before... and I added on stuff. LOL

Dave,
Back in the 2010-11 season Middlebury was definitely the team that would have hosted if the flights hadn't come into play. I remember the Middlebury fans were up in arms over their loss of the hosting site. It's embedded in my memory because that was the year that Buffalo State made the Sweet 16 and I predicted for my Bengal friends that because of the distance, Rochester was going to host, instead of Middlebury or St Mary's and they would only have to make a short trip to the sectionals. That was the year that Middlebury went 28-2 losing to St Thomas in the Final Four. Going into the NCAA tournament they had a regional record of 22-1 while St Mary's was only 20-3.

If Middlebury hosted St Mary's had to fly there, the other 2 teams could be bussed in.

If St. Mary's hosted then Middlebury had to fly and the other 2 teams could take a bus.

With Rochester or Buffalo State no flights were necessary and Rochester was in the drivers seat against the Bengals.  It was really a no brainer to choose Rochester knowing how the NCAA avoids flights like the plague.

Magic - I know the bracket very, very well... I had called the SMC pod the weekend prior. The differences between Middlebury and SMC were very small as both were #1s in the regional rankings. If it came down to just those two for hosting, the committee had a very difficult decision to make. I know it wasn't relavent because by the time I was walking out of the SMC gym that Saturday night we realized MIddlebury was too far away and it wasn't going to happen. But Middlebury was certainly not head and shoulders better than SMC in the criteria that season.

Oswego has been chosen as a sectional site for next weekend's game. They will host Wooster at 7:30 PM following the game between Keene State and Christopher Newport that will take place at 5:30 PM.

The winners will play on Saturday at 7:00 PM for the right to advance to Salem, Va. and the Final Four.

The other Sectional sites are Augustana, Benedictine and Tufts.
