Nah.  Just trying to help out.  I'm glad they are useful here and appear to be on the Northeast Region boards too.   ;D
Another note...I doubt anybody will want to play your Bengals in the conference tournament.  I read magicman's recap of the recent game against Oswego and found it to be sad that the officials seemed to dictate the result of that game!  What makes it even worse is they seemed to get the call wrong.

You and magicman hit it on the button. What's really sad is that the ref near mid court indicated that the ball hit the rim, and yet the ref underneath the basket missed it. I was the closest non player/ref to the rim . It hit rim then  backboard and then our guy, Jordan Chateau got the rebounds with 4 seconds left!  Only to be screwed!! Truth is ...we screwed our selves. Held Oswego to 26 points in the first half and then gave up 43 in the 2nd half!   Losing Jordan Glover hurt too (he will be back for Fredonia). frustrating but we still control our destiny.

Keep doing what you are doing. There's not a BENGALS coach that doesn't hasnt called me at least once this weekend, with questions about "what if this"... "what if that"..."who beat whom?"  etc.  I sound like a friggin genius ( as long as I have your info in front of me...oh yes, from my color printer no less  ;))!

Looks like your game vs ECSU weds is for all,  the Regular season, Marbles!!  Good luck!!

Plus K!!!

Go BENGALS!!!

It's serving its purpose then!   ;D  The SUNYAC tiebreakers appear to be the same as the Little East.  For two teams, you go with head-to-head results first.  If that doesn't break it, you go to record vs. common opponents in the order of their standing.  Usually that solves it...I don't know what it is beyond that, I'd have to do some research.  For three-team tiebreakers, to my knowledge, you go with head-to-head among the tied teams and eliminate one team with that.  After getting one team out of the tie, you revert back to head-to-head with the two teams that are still tied and, again, if that doesn't solve it, you go to record vs. common opponents in the order of the standings.  I haven't gotten as far as four-team yet, but I would think it would be similar.

No question it is huge game against Eastern Connecticut.  Given the Warriors' 96-70 loss at UMass-Dartmouth, three teams are now tied at 9-3.  I do know that Keene controls their own destiny if they win this week.  I'm not very optimistic given some of the performances I've seen recently, but maybe they are saving a good one for Wednesday???  I'm hoping to be very surprised.

Hamed Shamseldin from Brockport State was selected as the SUNYAC Player of the Week. Here's the write up from the YAC website.

Hamed Shamseldin, MBB, Brockport

Feb 13, 2017
(Jr, G - Lawrence, N.Y.)
The Golden Eagles picked up a pair of wins in SUNYAC play, aided in large part by Hamed Shamseldin. The junior averaged 16.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, four assists, 1.5 steals and averaged 30 minutes of play. The Golden Eagles opened their weekend at New Paltz, where the Lawrence native posted 13 points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals in just 25 minutes. In a key win over Oneonta, Shamseldin stepped up to the challenge, turning in 18 of his 20 points in the second half, including a bucket that would put the Golden Eagles up for good with 16 seconds to play. The 6-0 guard added six boards, four assists, and one steal in the win.

Congratulations to Hamed for a big weekend.

One game on tap today as the 10th ranked team in the country travels to Plattsburgh for a 5:30 PM tip off time.

#10 Middlebury College at Plattsburgh State

The Panthers and Cardinals have put on some good shows over the years but the last couple of years have been one sided affairs. Three years ago the Cardinals beat the Panthers in Middlebury 63-47, one of their worst defeats of the season. Last year Middlebury returned the favor, dropping Plattsburgh by a 71-49 score, the 2nd worst loss that the Cardinals had in a 21-6 season. In between the Panthers won a 63-53 game in Plattsburgh.

Midd comes into this game with a 20-3 record and tied Tufts for the best record in the NESCAC with an 8-2 league mark. Tufts beat them head to head to claim the top seed in the upcoming NESCAC tournament that starts this Saturday. The Panthers will, in all likelihood, get an at large bid to the NCAA tournament, should they fail to win the league's automatic bid. Last year the Panthers won the league championship after entering the tournament as the 4th seed. They won a first round game and in their bid to make the Sweet 16 came up just short when they lost to Keens State 74-72.

They are led by their 3 guards, senior Matt St. Amour, senior Jake Brown, and junior Jack Daley. St. Amour is a leading candidate for the NESCAC Player of the Year and after his 31 points against Amherst last Friday and 28 points against Trinity last Saturday many followers of the conference think he locked up the award. St Amour is a fairly local product hailing from Swanton, Vermont. He's an outstanding shooter (20x34 from the field, 10x17 from long range, 9x10 ft, last weekend) and works hard to get open for his shot. Together with Brown and Daley, they are a threesome that provides solid defense and  will be tough to defend against. The Panthers have 3 big men that can rebound well and run the floor, so important to their fast paced style of play. Brown injured his ankle last Friday against Amherst and tried to go on Saturday against Trinity but couldn't. He may not play much or at all tonight with the playoff game on Saturday the focus of the coaching staff.

Plattsburgh also has big games this weekend. For the Cardinals it's do or die time, and even if they do, they may die. Two league games remain and Plattsburgh has to win them both and hope Geneseo or Buffalo State loses their games. Tough when you don't control your own destiny. The Knights and the Bengals have no such worries. Win and their in. The SUNYAC was so competitive this year that any one of the 6 teams making the playoffs could win the title.

These teams have 4 common opponents this year. They both had home games against New Paltz  and both beat the Hawks by a large margin, over 30 points. They both had home games against RPI and beat the Engineers. Plattsburgh won be 19, the Panthers won by 7. Liberty League leader, Skidmore, visited both teams, losing to Middlebury by a 72-71 score, while the Cardinals beat the Thoroughbreds 86-78. The Panthers hosted Trinity last Saturday and beat the Bantams handily 97-80. Plattsburgh traveled to play Trinity back in January on their first game back from Christmas vacation. The Bantams pounded them 107-80. Playing Trinity in Hartford after 3 weeks off, while the Bantams had 2 games just prior to the Plattsburgh game, is a recipe for a pounding so I'm throwing that game out. ;)

The oddsmakers have made the Panthers a solid 10 point favorite in this contest. I think they probably have the horses to win the game but I think the Cardinals can keep it a bit closer than the 10 point spread. I'm hoping, of course, for an upset, that may send my guys into the weekend with a bit of a swagger. But I can't pick them to win. I see the Panthers winning this one by an 87-82 final score....but I sure hope I'm wrong.

I haven't done the leg work on the tiebreaker on common opponents between Oswego and Brockport, so if Brockport wins both games this weekend, and Oswego goes 1-1 (with the 1 being to Brockport), who gets the #1 seed?

Given the scenario you mention, I believe who would be in first comes down to who finishes third, believe it or not.  If the scenario you mentioned happens and Oneonta finishes third, Brockport would finish first because they swept Oneonta and Oswego split.  However, if Cortland finishes third, Oswego would finish first in that scenario because they swept Cortland and Brockport, even with a win over them this weekend, can only split at best.

Thanks, Allstar. I appreciate it! +k

With Brockport being "on the bubble but out" in projections over on the pool C page, they can't leave it up to an at large bid.

Middlebury 91  Plattsburgh State 70

This was a ballgame for the first half and part of the 2nd. Plattsburgh had an early 8-3 lead and that was their highlight of the game. Middlebury went ahead with an 18-1 run fueled by 7 points from Jack Daley and back to back 3 pointers from bench player, Liam Naughton. The Panthers never trailed again. The Cardinals fought back  and narrowed the gap to 26-21 but couldn't get any closer and went into the break down 39-33.

The teams traded baskets to start the 2nd period and the margin was still 6 points at 48-42 after 3 minutes had elapsed. That was when Panthers seized control of the game with a 21-7 explosion that gave them a 20 point lead at 69-49 with 11:32 left to play. 9 of those points came from Matt St. Amour who poured in 30 points for Middlebury. Their other guard, Jack Daley, had 4 points and 4 assists during that run. Daley ended up with 13 assists, more than the entire Plattsburgh team. The Panthers 3rd starting guard and 2nd leading scorer, Jake Brown, didn't play in the game as he was recovering from a rolled ankle injury suffered last weekend. Middlebury didn't need him as the combination of Daley and St. Amour along with 4 capable big men proved to be more than the Cardinals could handle. The Panthers got 12 points and 4 rebounds from two back-up guards and that's about what Jake Brown averages per game. The Panthers pushed their lead to as much as 28 points at 87-59 with 4:31 left to play as both coaches emptied their benches.

The Panthers
Matt St. Amour showed why he may very well be the NESCAC Player of the Year. The Cardinals had no answer for him as he alternately scored layups on drives to the hoop or drained 3 pointers. He was 11x15 from the field. 6 layups and 5x7 from downtown. He also had 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals.

Jack Daley had a double-double with 15 points (6x9 fg, 0x2 3's, 3x3 ft) and 13 assists. He added 4 rebounds and 3 steals.

Adisa Majors had 17 points (5x9 fg, 7x9 ft), 5 rebounds and 2 assists in 24 minutes off the bench.

Nick Tarantino just missed a double-double with 9 points (4x6 fg, 0x1 3's, 1x2 ft)and a game high 11 rebounds.

The Cardinals
Jon Patron led the the team in scoring with 16 points (7x14 fg, 0x2 3's, 2x4 ft). He also grabbed 7 rebounds.

Chris Middleton had 12 points (5x9 fg, 1x3 3's, 1x2 ft) and a team high 8 boards. He added 3 asists and 2 blocks.

Brandon Johnson had 9 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals off the bench.

Owen Mitchell added 7 points and 2 rebounds off the bench.

Middlebury improves to 21-3 and completes their regular season. They return to the hardwood for the first round of the NESCAC tournament when they host the #7 seed, Bates, this Saturday afternoon at 2:00 PM  in Pepin Gym.

Plattsburgh falls to 11-12 overall and 7-9 in conference play. They are still alive for a playoff spot but are in a must win situation this weekend on the road against New Paltz and Oneonta. The Hawks are up first on Friday at 5:30 PM.

Well he is actually showing you the NCAA SOS which he has been able to math-out exactly like the NCAA does... so you have real SOS numbers, not once-a-week versions. He does add in his own RPI and bases his order on that (he notes he doesn't use the other criteria).

All-Time

After all the Craziness this season, I'm sure this weekend won't disappoint.
We have a battle for 1st place between Oswego and Brockport. They face off on Saturday which should determine who hosts the SUNYAC Championship.

We have Geneseo hanging on for dear life and Plattsburgh still breathing barely to make the playoffs.

Brockport over Cortland at home. Brockport would love to host this seasons SUNYAC Championship where they are very tough to beat.

Oswego over Geneseo, which would make Geneseo's game against Cortland tomorrow a must win.

Magicman's Cardinals all over New Paltz as the Cardinals need to sweep this weekend to maybe get in.

The Oneonta Red Dragons all over Potsdam as Frankie Kelly needs 14 points to get to 1000. Look for Frankie to have a big game as well as McElroy and Coleman to secure up 3rd place in the standings.  Good Luck to Frankie tonight.
I will give a shout out to Coach Medici as he recruited some great ball players the past 6 years as 4 of his players reached 1000 points or more. Zach Mager, Mike McElroy, Lawrence Coleman and Frankie Kelly.

Enjoy the games

Feb. 17  4 games on the schedule today in the final regular season weekend. Every one has important conference ramifications.

Cortland State  at  Brockport State        5:30 PM  Co-Featured Game of the Day

Both teams need a win here desperately. Cortland will host a first round game but they could even end up in 2nd place and get a first round bye, with a weekend sweep. They would need a little help for that to happen. Brockport is still hoping to win the top seed with their big match up tomorrow against Oswego a possible regular season title decider. Brockport can't look ahead to that game or the Red Dragons will make them pay. Cortland always plays the Golden Eagles tough and has won the last 3 games against them.

The oddsmakers have made Brockport a 5 point favorite in this one. I also think they win a close game at home, where they've been tough to beat all year, going 8-0 on the season. Brockport 83 Cortland 80.

Potsdam State at  Oneonta State                5:30 PM

Oneonta will host a first round game. They can't finish higher than 3rd place or worse than 4th. It's just a question of who they will face in that opening game. The Bears aren't just playing out the string. They want to win one of these last two games which will make them and their coach feel good going into the off season.

The oddsmakers have made Oneonta a heavy 27 point favorite. I think Potsdam will cover the spread but still lose by a final score of 94-72.

Plattsburgh State  at  New Paltz State        5:30 PM

Plattsburgh can't afford to look past the Hawks to the big game coming up tomorrow against Oneonta. They need to win both games and get some help to have a chance at the 6th and final seed. They need to focus on today's game or tomorrow won't matter. The Hawks are winless in the conference and will treat this weekend like their playoffs. The Cardinals beat them handily in Plattsburgh and the oddsmakers have made them a 15 point favorite in this game. I think they win by a few more. Plattsburgh 90 New Paltz 66.

Oswego State  at  Geneseo State                 5:30 PM  Co-Featured Game of the Day

The Lakers could lose today's game and if they win tomorrow against Brockport would still claim the top seed. So they don't have the pressure on them, today, that the Golden Eagles have this evening, against Cortland. I certainly hope that Oswego isn't looking past the Knights and thinking about Brockport. I need the Lakers to beat Geneseo, so you know where my rooting interests lie.

The Knights could also lose this game and still make the playoffs with a win tomorrow or a Plattsburgh loss. The oddsmakers have even made the Knights a 3 point home favorite over the Lakers. I'll take Oswego to win this one by an 82-78 final score.

Edit at 7:27:  Several things became clearer with Brockport's loss to Cortland.

New Paltz 46 Plattsburgh 39 at the half.

Wouldn't want to be inside the Plattsburgh State locker room right now. Plattsburgh looking like the last place team in this one. 7 turnovers, some of them with a downright lackadaisical effort, that led to 12 New Paltz points.

New Paltz 7 of 10 from downtown. Dylan Balducci with 12 points(3x3 from distance) and Andrew Seniuk with 10 points (2x2 from distance) to lead the Hawks. Nick Paquette with 8 points (2x3 from distance).

Jon Patron with 13 points for Plattsburgh. Eli Bryant with 9 points (3x4 from long range)

Plattsburgh outrebounding the Hawks 25-13 and still losing.  Hawks with only 2 turnovers.
