Impressed with Plattsburgh in their win over my alma mater tonight.  Every time SLU made a mini run they answered back with a 3.  SLU missed 14 free throws but I don't think it would have mattered.  Makes me quite nervous for this weekend when we play Skidmore considering they beat this good Plattsburgh squad by almost 30.

Plattsburgh played badly at Skidmore. I was there courtside and we fell behind early  and never got into a rhythm. Skidmore shot very well from long range in the first half and didn't miss from the line. They threw a zone at Plattsburgh and the Cardinals didn't handle it very well. Skidmore is a very good team and the Saints will need their best effort if they hope to be competitive in that game.

Spent a few minutes talking with Saints big man Riley Naclerio before the game. I have him on one of my D3 fantasy teams and told him I needed a big effort from him against RPI this weekend because that was the game I had him in my lineup (we can only use a player in 1 game per week). He promised me he would save his best for that game. ;D   He was a nice young man and I enjoyed my conversation with him about the team. I think they should have given him more touches last night against Plattsburgh. When they went inside to him he usually scored but that didn't happen often enough. The Saints are young and will get better as the season progresses. They have some first year players who are getting quality minutes right now (Arnold, Coffey, Low and Keeley) and several others who show promise. With 8 freshman on a 14 man team the future looks bright.

Hello all - first time here on the boards been following the Yac' for some time now (sure you can tell by my handle  ;) ) anyways nice to be in the company of you all! Let me start by saying we are in for a heck of a year! I do like my red dragons chances to run the table this year with so many teams "rebuilding". I was nervous that Plattsburgh who has mostly all of their student athletes from last year returning, would be a tough team but they have been awfully disappointing and at this rate will find themselves in the same situation as last year, watching the playoffs from the couch. Can never count out teams like Geneseo and Oswego, and this years dark horse team from me is none other than Buffalo State. I recognize 1 or 2 names from last years roster but boy have they come to play and they are terrorizing opponents in the paint with their big men duo of Henry and Campbell. Just looking back at some of the posts it seems the Magic one has some animosity towards those Bengals but it must be in good nature! They have played some non D3 schools yes but what he may seem to fail to realize is that those schools practice year round and have 6-7 games under their belt by the time they play Buffalo State or any other traditional D3 school who may only have 1 or 2 games. They also went on the road and beat a tough Naz team, regardless of who played and who didn't. Too bad for Oswego they couldn't have some of the Bengals luck *sucks teeth, rolls eyes, yawns*. Oneonta beat a tough Hartwick team and was impressive against D1 Albany without their big 3 from last year (McElroy, Coleman, Kelly). Coach Cam does an awesome job of recruiting and I am glad to see him shine; heck he was the one getting all of those amazing players to Plattsburgh before he took over at Oneonta! Brockport seems to be a 1 man show but will always be in the mix late in Feb and early March and HOW BOUT THOSE BEARS! Potsdam having some early success is great to see and they will look to continue their hot start when the Bengals and Blue Devils come to town this weekend. My Red Dragons took a tough one last night but best believe they will bounce back! Catch up with you guys soon good luck to everyone this year! Peace!

Welcome to the boards red dragon 4 life. I am curious though. Is that the Cortland version or the Oneonta version.

I do appreciate that you realize that some of Buff Stats opponents have been non d-3, they all had at least 6 more games under thier belt playing college competition . And yes I'm a Bengals fan "bengals rule", but you will never hear me berate another program.  These are pretty classy boards ( some the East football boards are downright brutal). Always good to have a new face and a fresh perspective on the SUNYAC boards.   Hope to cross paths one day!

Go BENGALS!

Pretty sure he's a follower of Coach Spanbauer's variety of Red Dragons that are caged down in Cortland. Hence the statement at the end of his post... "My Red Dragons took a tough one last night but best believe they will bounce back!"

First let me welcome you to the SUNYAC board RD4Life. Always good to get a different perspective from another corner of the State. You should feel honored as the head man himself, Mr Coleman, gave you a shout out.

Secondly, It's been a while since any team has run the table in the YAC. My Cardinals did it in 2007-08 and the Lakers did it in 2011-12 but no one since, has pulled it off. It won't happen this year either but if it does I would have predicted that Cortland or Plattsburgh would have been the team to do so.

I can guarantee you that Plattsburgh won't be watching the playoffs from the couch this year. They opened the season against two very good teams and didn't play particularly well against either one. Their best player has yet to step on the floor this year and when he does return (December 30th) will give them another double digit scorer and rebounder (18.7 ppg, 9.0 rpg last year) They had a solid game on Tuesday night against St. Lawrence and they were short 3 players in their regular rotation. Don't underestimate the Cardinals.

To set the record straight I absolutely have no animosity toward the Bengals and, as you state, it is in the form of good natured ribbing, usually directed at that Bengalsrule guy. He makes me chauffeur him around when he arrives in Plattsburgh and doesn't even tip me. Or he'll say something like..."you want a tip...you better double team Mike Henry tonight." The Bengals are actually one of my favorite teams and Bengal great Jake Simmons was one of my favorite players. I also have the Buffalo State apparel to prove it.

Brockport seems to be a 1 man show but will always be in the mix late in Feb and early March

Brockport's Hamed Shamseldin is making an early case for SUNYAC Player of the Year. A huge triple double on Monday night (26 pts, 11 reb, 11 assists) followed by a 42 pt, 9 reb, 6 assist, 6 steal night against Hobart on Tuesday, makes one wonder what he will do on the weekend in conference action. He's already locked up the next Player of the Week award regardless of what he does on Friday and Saturday. Port is far from a one man show. Shamseldin has plenty of help as Justin Summer, Tyler Collins and Josh Nelson are all averaging double figures.

I'll conclude with my predictions of how the conference will play out this season.

1.   Plattsburgh State
2.   Cortland State
3.   Brockport State
4.   Buffalo State
5.   Oneonta State
6.   Oswego State
7.   Geneseo State
8.   Potsdam State
9.   Fredonia State
10. New Paltz State

Oneonta State, Buffalo State and Oswego State are interchangeable at the 4-5 and 6 position. The top 3 spots could also be shuffled around but I like the order I have them in. Once again I expect the competition to be fierce and the teams that protect their home court will be the ones in the playoffs at the end of February.

Good luck to everyone. Hope all the teams make it through the season with no injuries and that we get at least 2 bids to the Big Dance in March.

Congrats to the Cortland Red Dragons.  Pulled off a big 1 versus preseason top 25 St John Fisher (E8) by 1!
Coupled with Brockport win over Hobart (LL) yesterday , our conference "should" go up...a little.
