Dec. 9   Everybody in action today with 5 games on tap. All at 3:00 PM.

No time, No time, No time. Quick picks will have to do and I'll still be a bit late.

Potsdam State  @  Brockport   State

Brockport back in form will ride roughshod over the Bears who are 16 point underdogs. I hope they can keep it that close.  Brockport  88 Potsdam 68.

Cortland State   @     Buffalo State

Buffalo State favored by 1 point in this one. I don't see it that way but hope I'm wrong. Cortland 84  Buffalo State 77.

New Paltz State  @  Oneonta State

The Red Dragons will take this one and are listed as 11 point favorites. Oneonta 86 New Paltz 71.

Oswego State  @Fredonia State

The Lakers are starting to streak and should carry it for at least one more game. Favored by 7 points, I see them winning this one by a  79-67 final score.

Plattsburgh State     @  Geneseo State

The Knights are slim 2 point favorites in this one but I think the Cardinals will rebound and return to the North Country with a 1-1 record for the weekend...at least I sure hope they do.  Plattsburgh 87 Geneseo 81.

magicman

Plattsburgh State leads Geneseo 50-36 at the half.

Eli Bryant once again comes off the bench and leads the Cardinals as he score 17 points in the first half. Nick DeAngelis with 10 points and Brandon Johnson with 8 points. Ian Howard with 4 points and 8 rebounds.

Tommy Eastman is the main man for the Knights with 14 points and 4 boards. Sean Crowley has 8 points.

magicman

Cortland all over Buffalo State as they lead 37-13 at the break.

Zach Lydon with 14 points and Carrel Joseph with 8 to lead the Red Dragons.

Buffalo State has 5 points from  Brian Harrell and 2 other players have 4 each to account for their 13 points. I'm betting some harsh words being spoken at halftime in that locker room.

magicman

Oswego State leads Fredonia 30-22 at the break.

Jamir Ferebee with 14 points to lead the Lakers.

Isaiah Ice with 5 points for Fredonia

magicman

Potsdam hanging tough with Brockport as they only trail 52-48 with 14:50 to play in the game.

Oneonta leading New Paltz  55-51 with about 10 minutes left to play.

Boy. Do I hate Saturday basketball games in SUNYAC!  Back to back ( Saturday) horrible 1st half's.  Last week vs Plattsand yesterday vs Cortland.  Give Cortland thier due.  They shot well, made thier free throws and played some damn good defense (buff state 22-79).  It was good to see some BENGALS legends ( Jake Simmons and Norman Simmons) visit the team afterwards!  Plenty wisdom imparted on that visit. Damn I miss those boys ( captains 2011 SUNYAC championship team).

It's only a loss if you don't learn from it.  My BENGALS are learning !  Thank GOD!

Hoping that Hampden Sydney VA is a perfect change of pace for my beloved BENGALS!

Go BENGALS!!!

I hope you told Jake Simmons that I was asking about him last week. Miss seeing that guy as he was always one of my favorites. In talking with the coaching staff last week when they were in town they told me Jake was still in the area and doing well. His is a true story of a remarkable young man that should be made into a movie. If "The Blind Side", with Sandra Bullock, can be such a big hit movie, then Jake's story has "Oscar" written all over it.

I completely agree, after reading his story, this kid is remarkable.
His will and determination to overcome his childhood and become the leader and person he has become is unbelievable.
Jake Simmons is a true inspiration and Champion.
He was always a pleasure to watch in Dewar arena back in the day.

Let's GOOOOOOO Bengals.

Lots of worthy candidates for the latest SUNYAC Player of the Week, among them:

Hamed Shamseldin Brockport...Last week's winner had another banner weekend scoring 54 points, with 10 rebounds, 15 assists and 4 steals in 2 wins over Plattsburgh and Potsdam.

Jamir Ferebee Oswego...Led the Lakers to a 3-0 week with wins over Oneonta, Fredonia, and Buffalo State. He totaled 70 points and had 11 boards, 8 assists and 4 steals.

Eli Bryant Plattsburgh State...Came off the bench to lead the Cardinals in scoring for the 4th and 5th straight games over a 1-1 weekend. Plattsburgh lost 97-95 at Brockport before a road win at Geneseo by a 92-83 score. In the 2 games Bryant totaled 58 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assists. He was 17x32 from the field, 6x10 from long distance and a perfect 18x18 from the line.

Justin Cooper Cortland State...Led the Red Dragons to a 3-0 week in the YAC and sole possession of first place, with wins over New Paltz, Fredonia and Buff State. Scored 59 points, with 29 rebounds, 17 assists and 4 steals. Shot 19x27 from the field, 3x8 from behind the arc and 18x20 from the stripe.

Apologies to any other worthy candidates I may have left out....it's getting late and I'm tired.

AND THE WINNER IS...

Justin Cooper, Cortland State    (Write up from the SUNYAC website)

Cortland's Justin Cooper continued to show his prowess on the court, leading the Red Dragons to a 3-0 week.  Against three conference opponents, Cooper averaged 19.7 PPG and 9.7 rebounds per game and shot a superior 70.4% from the field.  The junior has his best game against New Paltz when posted a double-double (22 points/11 rebounds) en route to an 89-73 win.  Cortland now sits at the top of SUNYAC conference play with a 4-0 record (7-1 overall)

Just spotted the Team of the Week on D3hoops front page. Our reigning POTW Justin Cooper was named to the D3hoops Team of the Week as well. Congratulations to Justin for the national honor.

Here's the link to that story:

With a little luck we could have had back to back weeks with a SUNYAC player on the D3hoops Team of the Week. Hamed Shamseldin certainly deserved to be on it with the monster week he had last week.

Make sure the SIDs know to nominate players.  That's the big hurdle; if they're not on the list, they can't be considered.
