With a little luck we could have had back to back weeks with a SUNYAC player on the D3hoops Team of the Week. Hamed Shamseldin certainly deserved to be on it with the monster week he had last week.

Make sure the SIDs know to nominate players.  That's the big hurdle; if they're not on the list, they can't be considered.

What can a school do if there SIDs don't nominate anyone who a team feels is deserving!

gordonmann

That can usually be resolved with a simple conversation between the coach and the SID. Maybe it just fell through the cracks this week since Brockport had a lot going on with its football team in Texas.

Tuesday  December 12th  1 game on tap today.

Western Connecticut  @  New Paltz State  6:30 PM

The Hawks are listed as 5 point home dogs in this game but the Colonials already own a season opening win against Brockport by a 66-63 score and the Golden Eagles handled New Paltz  already.  New Paltz is an improving team but  I think that Western Connecticut will probably win this one by a larger margin than 5 points. Colonials 83  New Paltz 72.

Caz Bombers

Hawks win 83-75, but looking at the box score it's a little hard to figure out how they did it. West Conn had two near triple-doubles and four guys who scored as many or more points than anybody on New Paltz. .467 to .347 from the floor and 47-39 rebounding edge the difference. Good win for NP heading into the break.

With a final score of 83-75 I nearly had a perfect score in reverse. Had Western Connecticut winning 83-72. Glad that I had it backwards and the improved Hawks got the W instead of the team from  the Little East.

I said at the beginning of the season that Coach Kenney would make this program better and he's already done so. The Hawks with 4 guys in double figures and 10 guys with 4 points or more. Western had 4 guys in double figures and 2 other guys with 2 points to account for all their scoring.

Brandon Guest led the way for the Hawks with a double-double of 14 points and 10 boards, along with 4 assists and 2 steals. Tristan Wissemann also had 14 points and 8 rebounds. Kevin Coyle had 12 points and 4 rebounds. Dylan Balducci added 10 points and 3 rebounds.

New Paltz improves to 3-6 for the season. They are off until 12-29 when they face host  #9th ranked Lycoming in a holiday tournament at 6:00 PM.

December 14th   One game today in the YAC

Oswego at St Lawrence    8:00 PM

Which Laker team will show up tonight?...the one that lost to Elmira 103 (yikes) to 90 or the one that comes into this game having defeated 3 conference teams in a row, Oneonta, Buffalo State, and Fredonia.

The oddsmakers have the Saints winning a close one here by 2 points,  but I'm taking the Lakers to win by a 78-70 final score and stretch that winning streak to 4 games. I do hope that SLU's Riley Naclerio has a big game since I have him on my fantasy team. He gave me 50 fantasy points the last game he played against Potsdam State.  Would like a repeat of that performance tonight.

mm--  did not see Naclerio in box score ???

No, I watched the game and he didn't play. I figured he was hurt and missed the game. Later I found out that he had a season ending injury so I will be replacing him. I feel bad for him since this is his senior year. I spoke with him for about 15 minutes a couple of weeks ago when he was in Plattsburgh and told him he was on my fantasy team. He got a big kick out of that. Fine young man and I hope he is able to get a medical redshirt if he wants to come back next year. He should be eligible for one as he only played in 7 games.

Beautiful Farmville VA.  I can finally take Farmville off of my bucket list after deciding to go south to support my BENGALS.  Ooowwwwee.  I had no idea what I was missing. Had some Bojangles chicken that was out of the world.  Now I can only hope that my BENGALS play " lights out" tomorrow!

Go BENGALS!!!!!

Oswego State 100  St Lawrence 63

The Lakers were all over the Larries right out of the gate and jumped out to early leads of 9-2, 20-6 and 30-8. The Saints came back to cut the lead to single digits at 46-38 with 1:32 left in the first half but the Lakers got a 3 pointer from Ian Schupp, his 3rd one of 6, that he had on the night and a layup by Louis Avellino to end the period and go into the break with a 51-38 advantage. That was as close as the Larries would get.

The 2nd frame was all Oswego as they doubled the Saints by scoring 49 points to SLU's 25. Oswego quickly went up by 20 points as the lead just kept growing to 30 and ultimately 41 points at 100-59.

St. Lawrence was in trouble before the game even tipped off when they had to play this game without their leading scorer and rebounder, senior big man, Riley Naclerio. The 6'9" forward suffered a season ending injury and without their go-to guy to rely on, the Saints will be up against it for the rest of the year.

Oswego was led by Ian Schupp and Brandan Gartland who both had a game high 20 points. Scupp added 4 assists, while Gartland had 4 rebounds. Jamir Ferebee had 14 points, a game high 6 assists and 6 rebounds, while Tyler Pierre had 13 points and 8 boards. Liam Sanborn had 11 points, a game high 9 rebounds and also tied for the high with 6 assists.

St. Lawrence got 11 points from Pierre Coffy and 10 points from Cam Keely. Keely added 5 rebounds and 3 assists. Ben Crawford had 8 points and 6 rebounds, while Jack Twardy had 7 points and 6 rebounds.

Local product for St. Lawrence, from my neck of the woods, (I can use that phrase cause it's an Oswego State game and NBC Weatherman, Al Roker, went to Oswego State) freshman Kevin Murray, from Plattsburgh's Seton Catholic High School, saw his first double digit minutes of the season and responded with 6 points and 2 rebounds in 13 minutes. I see good things from this youngster down the road.

Oswego improved to 5-4 overall (3-1 in the SUNYAC) and will be off until December 29th when they travel back up North to the same place as they were on Friday...Canton, New York, to face the other D3 team in that town...the SUNY-Canton Kangaroos.

December 16th    Two games on the schedule for today

Buffalo State  @  Hampden-Sydney        2:00 PM   Luck Stone Holiday Classic at Hampden-Sydney

The Bengals take on the first of two Old Dominion Athletic Conference opponents when they tackle another team of  big cats...the Tigers of tournament host Hampden-Sydney College. The Tigers own a couple of decent wins this year despite their 3-4 overall record, most recently defeating D3hoops #23 Emory University 90-85.

The Bengals have dropped 3 conference games in a row and now sit at 4-4 on the year. They are listed by the oddsmakers as a slight 3 point underdog in this one. I think the Bengals will be up against it in this one and I see them coming out on the short end of a 85-79 final score.

Cortland State     @   SUNY-Old Westbury        2:00 PM

The Red Dragons are 7-1 and winners of 5 in a row. Currently Cortland is all alone in 1st place in the SUNYAC with a 4-0 record and they sit a game in front of Plattsburgh, Brockport and Oswego who are all tied with 3-1 records. Cortland got a little love this week in the D3hoops Top 25 poll as they were mentioned for the first time with 4 points. That 2 point loss to Ithaca College back on the 28th of November is keeping them from a loftier position but they will move upward if they keep winning.

Old Westbury is 3-3 and their most recent effort was a loss to Mount St. Mary by a 77-64 score. Potsdam State beat Mount St. Mary's back on 11-21 by an 84-81 score. The oddsmakers have Cortland listed as a 13 point favorite in this one but I think they win it by a bigger margin than that. Cortland 87 Old Westbury 68.

Buffalo State defeats Hampden Sydney 95-86 as all 5 starters hit for double figures.

The Bengals wanted to make a liar out of the magicman and I'm glad they did. Should have known not to pick against the Bengals in a holiday tournament but forgot that they always seem to win when they play in someone else's holiday extravaganza.  Keeping the streak alive once again.

Now tomorrow go out and take down the other ODAC team you have to play, Bridgewater (Va.),  and make it a double your fun weekend.

Cortland all over Old Westbury 90-66 led by Zach Lydon's double-double of 20 points and 12 rebounds.

The Red Dragons were listening to my predictions as they made my forecast of a Cortland win by an 87-68 score almost a reality.

There's just something about Holiday Tournaments that my BENGALS love. Today's game was a nail biter from start to finish.  I'll say this.  I had a chance to see the facilities at Hampden Sydney, and in the words of Malik Campbell ( Syracuse Basketball 98-99), the HSC locker are better than Syracuse ( D1). HSC locker room was a site to see.  Thier video room had individual reclining chairs and a movie screen.  Host school really was a class act.  I'm glad I made this journey down here.  My boys needed this win worse than ( fill in the blank).

5 players on double figures with Quinton Campbell stepped big up in the 2nd half with 15/10! Bridgewater is 1 athletic team and there will be no need for a shot clock tomorrow.  Gonna see if I can catch my boys at BUFFALO Wild Wings now.

Proud of them boys.

Go BENGALS!!!!

Dec. 17  Two teams in action today in Holiday Tournaments

Buffalo State vs Bridgewater (Va.) 12:00 PM  The Luck Stone Holiday Classic @ Hampden-Sydney, Va.

I hope the Buffalo State Bengals didn't eat too much at the Buffalo Wild Wings joint yesterday after their win over host Hampden-Sydney. Today the oddsmakers have made them a 5 point favorite over another Old Dominion Athletic Conference foe in Bridgewater (Va). This game will resemble a track meet as both teams like to race up and down the court at high speed. I'm picking the Bengals to win the Luck Stone Holiday Classic Title. Final score: Buffalo State 93 Bridgewater 79.

Whittier vs  Brockport State        2:00 PM    Daytona Beach Tournament

The Golden Eagles are 7 points from having an undefeated season. That is the total point difference in the 2 losses they have suffered so far this year. They are currently on a 2 game winning streak after a sweep of the conference's  North Country schools last weekend.

Whittier College is a member of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athleic Conference and bring a 2-4 record into this contest. The oddsmakers think Brockport will win this meeting by a 7 point margin. I think they will win it by more than that. Final score Brockport 91 Whittier 80.
