Damn. Just when you start feeling good.  Then you run into a buzzsaw like Bridgewater.   Tough game for my boys.  And an even tougher ride home. 1-1 for the weekend in ODAC territory is gonna have to suffice.  Wish we could have pulled this 1 off.

Safe travels fellas.

Brockport vs Wooster

Just noticed this game has started and Brockport is trailing 24-21 with 7 minutes to play in the first half. I'll still take Brockport though they may be up against it. Oddsmakers have this game as a pick 'em. I think the Golden Eagles will prevail by an 81-78 score.

magicman

Brockport trails Wooster 38-32 at the break.

Brockport missing Coach Dunne as he caught a bug of some kind and has turned the coaching duties over to his top assistant, Joe Clark

Justin Summers with 10 points to lead Brockport. Hamed Shamseldin has 7.

Wooster has 14 points from Spencer Williams and 10 points from Reece Dupler.

A second game scheduled for today that I didn't know about.

Cortland  vs  Southern Vermont  in Miami

The oddsmakers have the Red Dragons listed as a 9 point favorite in this one. That sounds about right but the Mountaineers are 7-1 and own a victory over a very good Keene State team so they could pull off a mild upset here and it wouldn't surprise me.  I'll take Cortland to win by an 85-77 final score.

magicman

Cortland defeats Southern Vermont 94-85.

Zach Lydon and Justin Cooper with a game high 23 points each. Cooper also had a game high 14 rebounds and was a perfect 7-7 from the field. Lydon had 8 boards and 4 blocks.

James Morales had 20 points, 7 assists, 6 rebounds, and a steal. Nicky Bonura had 15 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and a steal.

Cortland improves to 9-1 and will face Washington and Lee in Miami on Wednesday Dec. 20th at 2:00 PM.

Merry Christmas to Bengalsrule, jdex, thebear, All-Time, AllStar, and all the other posters that frequent this board. It's a fine Christmas eve here in Plattsburgh, New York with a new coat of 4 inches of freshly fallen snow and a not too cold temperature of 18 degrees. Hope Santa brings my friends the wishes they want.  :)

Merry Christmas also to the D3hoops crew, Pat, Gordon, Dave, Ryan and the other contributors that bring us this great website that gives so many of us so much pleasure. 8-) Where would we be without it.

Posting this a little late but the latest winner of the SUNYAC PLayer of the Week was Cortland junior Zach Lydon. This was for the week of Dec. 11 through Dec 17th. Congratulations to Zach.   Here's the write up from the YAC website.

Zach Lydon, MBB, AOW, Cortland
Dec 18, 2017
This week's winner is the junior from Cortland Zach Lydon (Elizaville, N.Y.). Lydon scored 20 points and grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds in Cortland's 90-66 victory at SUNY Old Westbury. He made 9-of-12 shots shooting 75 percent from the field, including 2-of-3 attempts from 3-point range, in just 21 minutes of action.

Potsdam State down 70-66 against Western Connecticut with 6:08 left to play ends the game on a 15-2 run to win by a final score of 81-72.

In the last few years  it was usually the Bears that would lose games that way. Nice to see that Coach Bechtel has turned that the other way.

Danny Delsol-Lowry had 19 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals to lead the way for Potsdam. The Bears also got 14 points and 7 rebounds from Nosa Onabor along with 13 points from Dante Langley and Dante Viskovich. Langley added 7 rebounds and Viskovich had 6 boards.  Serigne Kane had 8 points and a game high 9 rebounds.

The Bears even their record at 5-5 (1-3 YAC) and are back in action on January 5th when they travel west to take on Fredonia at 7:30 Pm

Dec. 29  Three games on the schedule for today

Roanoke  vs  SUNY Oneonta        5:30 PM         @ Staten Island, N.Y.

The Red Dragons take on the Roanoke Maroons,  a member of the Old Dominon Athletic Conference The oddsmakers have Oneonta listed as a 4 point  underdog. Roanoke is 7-3 so far this season but has yet to beat a team with a winning record. Oneonta's record this season is 5-4 so I'm hoping Roanoke's string of losing to teams with a winning record continues. Oneonta wins this one 74-71.

Oswego State  vs  SUNY-Canton        6:00 PM      Utica New Years Tournament @ Utica, N.Y.

Canton is only 2-8 but they have played some quality teams and the oddsmakers have made them a 16 point underdog. Oswego is on a roll having won 4 in a row and they own double digit victories over Clarkson and St. Lawrence. Both those teams own double digit victories over Canton. It would seem like the Kangaroos are up against it today. Oswego should win this one by a final of 89-62 or something close to that.

New Paltz State  vs  Lycoming        6:00 PM   Louis Fleming Basinger Memorial Tournament

The Hawks take on the 9th ranked team in the country and this game has mismatch written all over it. The oddsmakers have New Paltz listed as a 22 point underdog  and 22 points is exactly what the margin of victory was when Lycoming defeated another SUNYAC team earlier this year. That was on November 18th when they beat Oneonta 108-86. Today's outcome could be worse. The Hawks should try and slow this game down if they hope to have any chance.  Lycoming still wins big 94-70.

Caz Bombers

pretty good, Magicman, Oneonta won by 6 rather than 3 and New Paltz margin of defeat was 21, close to the predicted margin of 24. Oswego must have got a much tougher test from Canton than anticipated as the Lakers won by just 7 points.

Oneonta State 65   Roanoke 59

The Red Dragons came out of the gate with a rush and jumped out to a quick 9-2 lead that soon turned into a 20-10 advantage fueled by 7 straight points from Dwayne Freeman. The Maroons closed to within 4 points but Freeman scored again, Anthony Kirkwood hit a pair of free throws and Freeman stole the ball, then fed Harrison Deegan for a layup that restored the double digit lead at 28-18. For the rest of the period Roanoke trailed by 8 to 13 points and they were down 41-32 at the break.

Someone must have hit the deja vu button because the 2nd half started out just like the first half with a 9-2 Oneonta spurt. And similar to the first half, Dan Devine scored the first basket with a layup, followed by another basket by Ian Schultz and then a 3 pointer by Freeman. Devine hit another basket inside and the lead was 50-34 with 15:20 still to play. Later Freeman hit another triple and then Carson Jacobs did likewise as the Red Dragons enjoyed their largest lead of the game of 20 points at 56-36. The Maroons trailed for most of the 2nd half by 13 to 16 points but did generate a charge with about 6 minutes left in the game. Down 63-47 they went on a 12-1 run that brought them within 5 points at 64-59 with 36 seconds to play. Oneonta went 0x9 from the field and just 2x6 from the stripe with 2 turnovers during that 6 minute stretch. They only scored 2 points in the final 6:35 of the game. Fortunately their large lead was enough to hold off Roanoke.

Dwayne Freeman led the Red Dragons and captured scoring honors for the evening with 20 points. he also had 3 rebounds and 3 assists. Ian Schultz had 12 points and a team high 7 rebounds with a pair of assists. Matthew Boyd covered all the bases as he had 9 assists, 6 rebounds, 5 points, 4 steals, and 2 blocks.

Roanoke was led by Josh Freund with 13 points a nd a game high 9 rebounds. Joey Miller had 11 points, followed by Caleb Jordan and C.J. Miles with 10 each.

Oneonta  improves to 6-3 overall (2-2 in the SUNYAC) and will take on the Salisbury Seagulls in the championship game of the Tournament of Heroes on Saturday at 3:00 PM. Salisbury defeated the host Staten Island team by a 93-75 final score.

Oswego State 77  Canton 70

The Lakers almost got more than they bargained for with a determined effort by the Kangaroos to pull off the big upset. Canton played fairly even with Oswego for much of the first half that saw 4 ties and 5 lead changes. The score was still a 1 possession game at 35-32 with 1:48 left in the period but the Lakers got a pair of layups from Jamir Ferebee to end the half and go into the break up 39-32. Those 7 points would be the final margin of victory as the Roos played Oswego even in the 2nd frame with each team scoring 38 points. Several times it looked like Oswego finally had Canton on the ropes as they opened up double digit leads of 13 and 12 points but both times the Roos came back to cut the margin to 7 points, the 2nd time at 65-58 with 2:45 to play. The Lakers hit 10 of 14 free throws down the stretch to preserve the 7 point win.

Tyler Pierre was the big horse for the Lakers as he had a double-double that gave him team scoring and game rebounding honors with 21 points and 11 boards. Jamir Ferebee had 15 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists, while Brandon Gartland had 14 points and 4 assists.

Canton was led by Adrian Williams who had a game high 22 points. Danny Santana had 17 points and Deon Foster had 11. Jordan Stewart had 12 points, 9 assists, 4 rebounds, 2 steals and a block.

Oswego after starting out 1-4 now ups their record to 6-4 with their 5th straight win. They are 3-1 in the conference. The Lakers will  now take on the host Utica College Pioneers in the championship game of the Utica College Basketball Classic on Saturday at 5:00 PM. The Pioneers defeated Anna Maria College 99-73 on Friday night.
