Plattsburgh State 87  Canton 81

The Kangaroos led 2-0 and 5-4. After that it was all Plattsburgh State as the Cardinals wasted little time in opening up a double digit margin.  Plattsburgh's Ian Howard scored inside and then the Cardinals' Jon Patron showed off his game as he scored Plattsburgh's next 11 points, from inside, on short jumpers, from behind the arc and from the line. Brandon Johnson scored off a nice feed from Adam Jaquish who then got a steal and a layup of his own. The Cardinals were up by double figures, 23-10 with 12 minutes left in the half. The run would continue with another 14-4 outburst fueled by a pair of 3's from Jeremy Eisenman and 5 points from Johnson. With the score 37-14 Coach Curle went to his bench to give the freshman some playing time. Canton was able to close the gap to 44-29 at the break.

The Roos opened up the 2nd half with an 11-0 run to get within 4 points at 44-40 and Plattsburgh took a time out to regroup. The result was a 26-2 run by the Cardinals to go up 70-42 with 8:25 to go. This time it was Chris Middleton who took over as he scored 14 points in that span draining 3 shots from behind the arc, a layup a free throw and throwing one down as well. Once again the Plattsburgh bench was called upon to finish out the half.

Jon Patron led Plattsburgh with 23 points and 9 rebounds, capturing both scoring and rebounding honors.
Chris Middleton had 20 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists.
Brandon Johnson had 9 points, 7 assists, 3 rebounds and a steal.
Ian Howard had 8 points, 5 rebounds and 2 steals.
Isaiah Hill had 4 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 blocks and a steal.

Freshmen players Logan Galanes and Taylor Mason scored their first points in a Cardinal uniform. Logan had 5 points while Taylor had 4 points, 3 boards and a block.

The D3hoops 14th ranked Cardinals improve to 3-0 and will be off until November 27th when they travel to St. Lawrence to take on the Saints at 8:00 PM

Nov. 17   Six more game on tap today for SUNYAC teams.  Could be a tough day.

Eastern Connecticut  vs  Potsdam        1:00 PM       Worcester Polytechnic Institute Tournament @ Worcester, MA

Consolation game of the tournament and the Bears are up against another tough team. Eastern Connecticut is picked to once again win the Little East Conference. They have been frequent visitors to the NCAA tournament recently and despite their opening loss yesterday have quite a bit of talent returning. The oddsmakers have them listed as a 13 point favorite. I think the Bears can keep it closer. Eastern Ct. wins this one 85-77. Hope I'm wrong.  Go Bears.

Fredonia State  vs  Washington and Jefferson        2:00 PM       @ Medaille College / Buffalo, N.Y.

Fredonia once again listed as the favorite, this time by 6 points. Like the Blue Devils, Wash and Jeff hasn't had much success in recent years either. They are 1-2 this year with a win over Medaille yesterday.  Medaille hung with Brockport so the Presidents may have the upper hand in this one. I'll take Washington and Jefferson to win a close one 76-72

Oneonta State  @  Susquehanna        3:00 PM

The Red Dragon are listed as a 1 point favorite in this one. Don't know much about the River Hawks other than the fact they return 4 starters from last year's 10-14 season. I still like Oneonta to walk off the River Hawks floor with the championship. Red Dragons win this one 86-78

Geneseo State  @  Westminster (Pa.)        4:00 PM

The Knights got handled yesterday and now have to face the host team. The Titans were 19-9 last season and bring back 3 starters. The oddsmakers have made Westminster a slim 3 point favorite. I'm hoping the Knights can win this one but I think it will be Westminster winning by a 73-68 final.

SUNYIT  @  Oswego State        4:00 PM

The Lakers opened the season with a 39 point win over Elmira. Will we see more of the same today? Last year the Wildcats hung with some pretty good teams and finished the season at 19-8. They opened up with a win over SUNY-Purchase yesterday and they could surprise the Lakers. The point spread shows the Lakers to be 8 point favorites. That sounds about right.   Oswego 88 SUNYIT 78

John Carroll  @  Buffalo State        6:00 PM

Buffalo State finally gets their season in gear...they may have picked the wrong time. The Blue Streaks will be a tough opening matchup for a young team. The oddsmakers have John Carroll favored by 22 points. I'm hoping the Bengals can keep it closer than that.
John Carroll wins this one 96-84.

Potsdam loses to Eastern Connecticut 89-81.

Good game for the Bears against a decent team. I had them losing 85-77 and with 30 seconds to go in the game the score was 85-77. The Bears fouled twice, the Warriors made the free throws and Potsdam scored on each of their final 2 possessions. So I was pretty close. Did get the 8 point margin of victory right on the money.

1st game of the season less than an hour away. It always seems like the off-season is gonna last forever ( anyone have that feeling?). And then the next thing you know.  Next season is here.  The magic one is oh so right .  BENGALS have one heck of an opener tonight vs #20 John Carroll.  I watched JC last night play Johnson and Wales and the Blue Streak just come at you in waves!  Every 4/5 mins wholesale subs.  Usually shooting with the 1st 10 seconds of the shot clock.

Call me a homer but I believe that my BENGALS can hang. I'm sitting in the gym already

Go BENGALS !!!

99-94 JCU. Nice effort by Buff State, looks like free throws were the difference. Forced a lot of turnovers against a ranked opponent, Dom Grayer with 39 points on 8-11 from distance.

Yessir Caz. It definitely was a good 1. Free throws were the difference. BENGALS missed 12, Blue streak missed 7. Fought back from 2 second half double digit deficits to tie it at 80 with about 5 left in the game, and to within 1 with 23 seconds left.  Just couldn't close the deal. Give John Carroll credit. They made their free throws down the stretch. And we didn't.  Hats off to the Blue streak.  When all is said and done put me in the Impressed category when it comes to this upstart BENGALS team. Dom Grayers 39 were impressive however newcomer Kay Grants 8 for 8 from the line combined with a 14 and 14 double double ( pts and rebounds) and 3 steals was almost as impressive.

Cant wait till tomorrow at 2!

Go BENGALS!

November 18th           Just a single game on the schedule for today

Brooklyn College  @  Buffalo State        2:00 PM

It's the Bengals vs the Bulldogs in the consolation game of the Buff State Coles Classic Tournament. The Bengals gave a good account of themselves yesterday, in their season opener, as the loss to #20 John Carroll could have gone either way. Buff State fought back every time the Blue Streaks made a run and in the end it came down to the final few possessions. If the Bengals can come close to that effort today, they should be able to even their record.

Brooklyn College is 2-1 and lost by 9 points yesterday to Johnson and Wales, a team that John Carroll beat on Friday by 9 points. The Bulldogs played the  St Thomas Tommies last Thursday and were 25 point underdogs. They won that game, upsetting the former National Champions 78-77 (the Tommies were National Champs in 2015-16 and 2010-11).

The oddsmakers have made the Bengals a 9 point favorite. I'm not sure Dom Grayer can go off for 39 points again so I'm taking the Bengals but I think it will be a little closer. Buffalo State wins this one 85-80.

Buffalo State falls to Brooklyn College 86-83

The Bengals fought back from 10 points down with 4:34 to go, to close to within a single point at 84-83, with 38 seconds to play. They needed a stop but didn't get it. They had a shot to tie the game at the end but it didn't go down. Another tough loss.

St. Lawrence will provide a test; they have some size, play a good zone but 11-23 FTs, 3-14 3s, 29 turnovers proved their undoing today against Scranton.
