Congratulations to Brandon Johnson who was chosen as the SUNYAC Player of the Week. Here is the write up from the YAC website:

Nov 19, 2018
CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has selected Plattsburgh senior Brandon Johnson (Greenburgh, N.Y.) as the Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week.

Brandon Johnson averaged 18.3 points and five assists per game in the Plattsburgh men's basketball 3-0 week to start the season. Johnson recorded a career high of 28 points, had four assists and was 55.6 percent on the floor in their 105-95 season opening win over Clarkson on Tuesday. On Wednesday, the senior led the Cardinals with 18 points and four assists in their 83-75 home opener victory over Skidmore. Johnson scored nine points and had seven assists in the Cardinals 87-71 win over Canton.

Brandon doubled his pleasure as he was also selected to the D3hoops Team of the Week.

Greek Tragedy

I'm not trying to completely discount Grayer's efforts. But when playing against any type of system, there's a sliding rule in terms of production. My own thought is that whatever a player may average, it's possible he'll produce at least 50% more against a system team. So, if a guy averages 18 a game, he might get 27 or more against a system team. JCU is probably system-light. U of NE, Pacific, Greenville, Grinnell, among others, all run some sort of fast-paced system. Check any of their boxscores and opponents regularly score 30+ a game.

As magicman also mentioned, it helps if your team wins, to receive individual awards.

Nov. 20   Five teams in action tonight

Brockport State  @  Baruch        5:00 PM

The Golden Eagles are favored by 4 points in this one. Baruch coming into this game off a 13 point win over NYU. I like Brockport to win 80-74.

Clarkson  @  Oswego State        5:30 PM

Lakers looking good early with 2 convincing wins. Clarkson, winless after 3 games all by double digit points. Oddsmakers have Oswego favored by 7 points. I think they win by more than that. Oswego 92 Clarkson 72

Waynesburg  @  Fredonia  State        6:00 PM

Fredonia once again is favored by a slight margin as the spread is 2 points. Waynesburg is in the same conference as the team that just beat the Blue Devils, Washington and Jefferson. Last year Waynesburg was better than W&J. The Yellow Jackets also come into this game 0-2, so somebody gets to put one in the win column today. I'll go with Waynesburg 71-67.  But I hope I'm wrong.

SUNY Delhi  @  New Paltz State        7:00 PM

The Hawks are favored in this one for the 2nd game in a row and they won last time out. Delhi is not a DIII team in basketball and I know they returned 4 starters. Hawks could come out on the short end. Oddsmakers favor New Paltz by 3 points. I'll take the New Paltz to win 80-75.

Buffalo State  @  St. John Fisher        7:00 PM

For the 3rd game in a row the Bengals face a tough opponent. Fisher has opened up 2-0 and beat Virginia Wesleyan last Saturday, a team that is usually near the top of their conference. Oddsmakers have made the Cardinals a 13 point favorite. I think they'll probably win but I see the Bengals keeping it closer.  St. John Fisher 84 Buffalo State 78. Sure hope I'm wrong though.

Final scores for Tuesday night games:

SUNYAC goes 3-2

Buffalo State 94  St. John Fisher 89

Buffalo State, trailing the entire game by as many as 12 points, finally grabs a lead for the first time at 64-63 with 9:36 to play. They played on through 4 ties but never let Fisher get in front again. Tied for the final time at 77 with 2:07 left, the Bengals' Dom Grayer hit a jumper, Zak Ciezki got a steal and Kay Grant scored when he grabbed an offensive rebound off a missed layup. Fisher then went to the line and made 1 of 2, but Ciezki nailed a 3 pointer seconds later, to put the Bengals up by 6 with just 39 seconds to play. Buff State hit 8 of 11 from the line to close out the Cardinals. Nice win for the Bengals and the YAC. Hard to beat a decent Fisher team at Fisher.

The Bengals had 6 players in double figures led by Sheldon Adams, last years SUNYAC Rookie of the Year, with 31 points. Dom Grayer had 13, Kay Grant had 12, Zion Guzman-Milton had 12, Zak Ciezki had 11 and Ryniek Holloway had 10.

Glad I was wrong on this one. I watched the game online and I believe it was my solid rooting for Buffalo State that pulled this one out for the Bengals.  :D

Other scores:

Oswego State 80   Clarkson  60

New Paltz State 77  SUNY Delhi 74

Brockport State 49  Baruch 61

Fredonia State 78  Waynesburg  81

Greek Tragedy

Is Oswego any good or just beating up on bad competition? Leads the league in scoring at 93 ppg, 20+ assists per game. 15+ 3s a game.

I think they have a solid lineup and yes they've had an the easy schedule. But it gets tougher as they will face a good Nazareth team next game, which should tell us a lot, as the Golden Flyers are also 3-0. Oswego's other OOC games are home against St. Lawrence (which they should win) and then travel to Emory at the end of December to play the Eagles in Atlanta. They play Denison the next day which will complete their out of conference schedule. In between Naz and SLU they play 4 SUNYAC games. I could see them going 4-0 in those conference games. I think they will probably finish in one of the top 3 spots in the conference. I'll post the order of finish I think the teams will end up on November 30th.

"My Solid rooting for Buffalo State.."😂😂😂😂
My man.   I can't wait till coaches Glover and Campbell read that one. I wish I could see thier reaction when they run into the Magic one Jan 12th!  It could be special 👀

It definitely was a much needed win and a great time for Sheldon to snap out of his shooting funk .  I can't remember the last time we had 6 in double figures.  Zay Ciezki and Zion Milton were truly the difference makers in the 2nd half with Zak almost meeting his season high in pts and Zion tripling his season high. Not enough can be said about eithers game changing 2nd half defense either!

I imagine that the BENGALS turkey will taste a little better tomorrow after getting that losing taste out of thier mouths. Here's to hoping that all SUNYAC friends and family ( and sometime lurkers) have a blessed and happy Thanksgiving!

Go BENGALS!

GO YAC!

Hope all my D3 friends have a safe and happy Thanksgiving. Not a very warm day here in the North Country. In fact the weatherman is saying it could be a record low for our area on Thanksgiving day. It was just announced by Oswego State graduate Al Roker, on the Today Show, that Macy's Parade will be the coldest one on record. Only 20 degrees in New York City. I feel sorry for all those people. The musicians in all the marching bands and the handlers of those big balloons will be challenged.  They are still not sure if they are going to let the big balloons fly.   I'm staying home, watching some football and resting up from the storms that have hit my area this past week.

November 24th   Only one game scheduled for today involving SUNYAC teams.

Potsdam State  @  Marywood    3:00 PM

The Bears travel to Scranton Pa. to take on the Pacers in a game that tips off at 3:00 this afternoon. I sure hope the Bears were able to travel down there last night so they don't have buslegs from the long trip.

The Pacers return 3 starters including their top two scorers from last year's 15-11 squad. They are off to a 3-3 start this year but really haven't beaten anyone worth noting. This will be a test for the Bears because it's a veteran team playing at home, but it's a game that Potsdam can win. The oddsmakers have listed Marywood as a 3 point favorite but I'm going with Potsdam to pull one out here and win this one 86-81.  Go Bears!

Potsdam trails at the half 35-30.

The Bears should be winning this game by double figures. They have missed 13 layups in the half and blew an 11 point lead.

Potsdam 69  Marywood 74

Bears come from 8 points down early in the 2nd the half at 42-34, to grab the lead 47-46 on a Jayquan Thomas 3 pointer with 12:39 to play. 7 lead changes and 5 ties would take place from that point on until the Pacers went in front 66-64 on 2 free throws with 3:39 left. Potsdam missed another layup and Marywood scored on their end with a hoop and harm. Up 69-64 The Pacers managed to hang on and walk off with the win. Bears still need to get better in crunch time.

Five Potsdam players in double figures led by Jayquan Thomas with 18 points. Thomas also led the Bears with 8 rebounds.

Bears fall to 1-3 and will return to action on Tuesday November 27th when they host crosstown rival Clarkson at 8:00 PM.

This is just in......

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has selected Buffalo State sophomore Sheldon Adams (Rochester, N.Y.) as its Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week.

Adams netted a career-best 31 points to lead Buffalo State to a 94-89 road victory over St. John Fisher in the Bengals' only action of the week. Adams was 8 of 12 from the field, including 4 of 8 from the 3-point range; he also hit 11 of 14 at the charity stripe. On top of his impressive offensive performance, the sophomore added five rebounds and three steals.

Congrats to Shelton.

Go BENGALS.
