7'1" SUNY Canton Aussie recruit Andrew Fitch added 4 blocks to his NCAA D-III leading total.

Bear,

Fitch has 24 blocks in his 8 games, for a 3.0 bpg average.  The NCAA leader is Benjamin Vezele, from Rhode Island College, in the Little East Conference. He has 48 blocks in 11 games for a 4.4 bpg average and leads Division III  in total blocks as well as blocks per game.

Vezele must have some great hops as he is only 6'5".

Fitch is in 10th place with his 3 bpg and is tied for 5th place with his total of 24 blocks.

The YAC's own Justin Summers from Brockport is right behind the tie for 5th with 23 blocks which has been done in 2 games less than Fitch has had. Justin has a 6 game total  of 3.8 blocks per game, which is good enough for 3rd place in all of Division III. We know Justin has some great hops since we've seen him in action a number of times both live and on video. Like the DIII leader, Justin is also only 6'5" tall. Plattsburgh will have to contend with him tomorrow night and I'm worried.

Bears win their 4th straight game since ????.

Glad to see the Bears get their 4th win in a row.  8-)

Potsdam has to go all the way back to the 2005-06 season (12 years) to find the last time they had a 4 game winning streak. That streak started with a pair of road wins. First up was a 78-71 overtime win against Geneseo, on Saturday, February 4th 2006. The following Tuesday, the Bears defeated SUNYIT (now  SUNY Polytechnic) 85-52 down there. Potsdam then came home to win 3 more games against SUNYAC teams, taking down Buffalo State on Friday February 19th, 97-81 and Fredonia the next day by a 68-57 score. Just for good measure they won their next game on February 14th by beating the visiting Oswego Lakers 82-68. It was their last 4 or 5 game winning streak until this most recent one. They could match that 5 game winning streak by beating Geneseo on Friday night and I'm hoping that they will, but that will be tough job, taking down the Knights at home. If they do win on Friday the streak will end the next afternoon, when they invade Brockport. Don't see them pulling off the upset there. Would still be happy about their best 9 game start in 14 years.... (6-3 if  they beat Geneseo). Have to go back to the last time the Bears made the NCAA tournament....2004-05 and won their first 16 games on their way to the Sweet 16 and a final record of 27-4 to beat a 6-3 start.
Here's hoping they get it and more!  Go Bears!!  8-)

I think Fitch is the active career leader, which might've been the intended reference.

Magic - Thanks as always for clarification.  BTW the Bears are playing at Geneseo tonight, a much tougher order than Fredonia...

Ryan,

Fitch is only a sophomore. He only has 96 total blocks and doesn't even make the Top 26 list that the NCAA shows. The active leader is senior Gbolahan Alliyu from Penn St. Harrisburg, with 210 blocks

My turn....Thanks for the clarification.... I'll make the correction. I knew that because the Bears play the same pair we play and I had a conversation with Coach Curle earlier on Thursday about the games the Cardinals had this weekend. I asked him if he wanted to play Brockport first or Geneseo. He said he would have preferred to play Brockport on Saturday. I must have had a "senior moment" to come up with Fredonia as the Bears' Friday night game. ::)

A score was just posted to the Potsdam and Geneseo D3hoops  team pages as well as the D3hoops Friday scoreboard.  The box score was posted as well and it's a conglomeration of the women's game with women and some men listed as players. Quite the mixup that will ultimately get corrected I'm sure. But when I saw an 82-43 Geneseo win I was certainly surprised and wondered why the game was over when it was a 7:30 start. ;D ??? ::)

Dec. 7  The basic Friday night package of 4 games with 8 YAC teams going at it all at 7:30 PM.

Potsdam State  @  Geneseo State        7:30 PM

My friend said the Bears are butter because they're on a roll...tonight that roll could get eaten in the first half. Geneseo has lost 3 straight games but they have all been on the road against quality opponents. They hung with Oswego and Cortland before losing by 10 and 9 points respectively.  They won't want to lose what looks like a winnable game on their home court. The Bears have 5 wins but none of them have come against a team with a winning record. The win over Oneonta was big though and it could be a sign that the Bears are not toothless anymore. The oddsmakers have the Knights listed as a 7 point favorite. I think the Bears will keep it closer but still come up short 75-71.

Oswego State  @  Buffalo State              7:30 PM

Tonight we will see if the Lakers are who we thought they were!!  Tonight we will see if the Bengals are who we thought they were!! Oddsmakers have the undefeated Lakers winning this one by 7 points.  I think the final score will be Oswego 88 Buffalo State 83.

Cortland State  @  Fredonia State        7:30 PM

These Red Dragons should take care of business and win by a double digit margin. The point spread listed by the oddsmakers is 13. I think they win by a few more.  Cortland 94 Fredonia 69.

Plattsburgh State  @  Brockport State   7:30 PM  Featured Game of the Night

These two teams will trade punches all night long. They have each won 7 of the last 14 games they've played in the past 6 years. They have split the series in 2 of the past 3 years. The oddsmakers have the Cardinals listed as a slim 3 point favorite. Last year the Golden Eagles defeated Plattsburgh in Brockport 97-95, but the Cardinals didn't have Jon Patron in that game. With him I think we win tonight. Plattsburgh 93 Brockport 85.

Plattsburgh leads Brockport 42-37 at the break.

The Cards Jon Patron only played 8 minutes in the first half as he was saddled with 3 fouls quite early.

Justin Summers with 14 points and 8 rebounds are tops for the Golden Eagles. Tyler Collins with 7 points to help out.

Isaiah Hill has a double-double at the half with 10 points, 14 rebounds and 3 blocks to lead the Cardinals

Chris Middleton with 10 points and 4 rebounds for Plattsburgh.

Adam Jaquish with 6 points and 3 rebounds off the bench.

magicman

Potsdam and Geneseo locked in a tight one as the Knights lead 31-29 at the half.

Buffalo State ahead of Oswego 42-35 at halftime.

Cortland losing at halftime to Fredonia 34-32.  Could be the shocker of the night. I think Cortland will pull it out though.

3 games into the SUNYAC season and only 1 undefeated team still standing.   This season is definitely gonna be one for the books.  I'll let Magic and company do the recap!  Tough conference for sure!

spwood

Thought the 5th foul on Patron was called very late and I thought it was a block.  Tough break for the Cardinals, but they still should have forced overtime.  The turnover under the basket with two seconds left was a tough play.  Definitely a foul.  Cards will rebound tonight!

Dec. 8  Everyone in action today with 5 games taking place

No time to post the usual banter so here's some quick picks.

Plattsburgh State  @  Geneseo State        4:00 PM

Cardinals are favored by 6. I think they win by more.  Plattsburgh wins  83-70

Potsdam State  @  Brockport State        4:00 PM

Oddsmakers have the Golden Eagles listed as 11 point favorites. Hard to argue with that after they took down Plattsburgh last night. I don't see a letdown here. Brockport wins this one 87-75.

Cortland State  @  Buffalo State        4:00 PM  Featured Game of the Day

Cortland could be on the losing end of this one. Bengals don't want a lost weekend. Oddsmakers have the Red Dragon listed as a 4 point favorite. I'm thinking the Bengals win by an 81-78 final score.

Oneonta State  @   New Paltz   State     4:00 PM

These Red Dragons get back on the winning path as they take on their travel partners. Point spread has them listed as a 5 point favorite. I see them winning 88-80.

Oswego State  @ Fredonia State        4:00 PM

The Lakers are the last undefeated team left in the conference and they'll be that way at the end of the day as well. The oddsmakers have them listed as a 17 point favorite and they should cover the spread. Oswego wins 90-70

Momma said that it would be days like this :'( :'(!  Up by 7 at the half yesterday and up by 3 at the half today, my BENGALS had thier chances all weekend long.  Red Dragons finish the game on a 9-4 run to close out a very UNmemorable weekend at 1300 Elmwood.

Here's to hoping starter Jordan Christopher and sometimes starter Delen Ramovic will both be back in time for some Virginia sun next weekend .   I'm encouraged that this young team ( 1 senior) is learning what it takes to be a Yac champ.  Gotta play hard for 40 minutes...not 38.  With half the team already having scored in double figures, I know that they have the fire power to get it done. Stopping the other team, with consistency, is the challenge.  I know coach Ansari must be frustrated at some of the BENGALS finishes ( including giving up a 25 pt lead to Fredonia in last weekends 2nd half, to win by 11).  But I also know that he knows, he has one of the deepest teams ( 10 different starters in 7 games) in recent BUFF STATE memory.  He knows what's needed to get his boys back on track.  I'm betting that the BENGALS will get back in track. Thank GOD for every Yac team having 2 cracks at each other.  That's what makes the SUNYAC the best East conference league in D3 and a top tier conference overall.

Get it done BUFF STATE.

Go BENGALS!
