Thanks Allstar you saved me some work by listing the standings.

Magicman....keep up the good work!  Reading your posts "tires me out" :)
Games in the Nescac...conference battles are "battles"....ranked teams are being challenged and beaten.  Hoping both our favorite schools will get to the post season....maybe meet somewhere.

Just give me one!

Tough loss at Memoriall Hall last night for my beloved BENGALS ! And yet I haven't been this encouraged all season .  Took the 18th ranked team to the wire in thier House.  Up 6 with under 12 mins left. And tied at 83 with 15 seconds left but alas it wasn't to be.  To be honest this loss hurt more than last years 27 ass whupping at Memorial Hall. To see my guys come so close yesterday , Friday ( loss by 3 ) at Potsdam and a Tuesday ( loss by 3 ) vs Brockport, leaves me knowing that we are in all 3 games.

Heck's 9 loses by a total of 35 points ( 3.88 per game difference) tells me that this team is in EVERY game.  No blow outs but competitive games.  My god...let them get another taste of Yac victory in thier mouths, just give me one, and ...  the sky's the limit.

With only 1 senior and 8 new players I understand that this is a work in progress.  But watching these boys fight to the end last night was actually a thing of beauty.  I believe these kids saw a glimpse of what they could like if they play a complete 40 mins.  Wish they had another game tomorrow but gotta wait till Friday !   Just give me one!

I'm hoping that they continue to improve and continue to grow together and continue to get better on their free throws (10-18 from the "charity stripe") .  Those 8 missed free throws speak volumes about where we could have been at games ends if we made just 4 more!  But that games over.   On to the next.  I pray that they bring their A game from start to finish. If they do then WATCH OUT.  These BENGALS could be special.

Love these boys. Now more than ever. Just give me one!

Go BENGALS!

It appears the top 4 have already pulled away from the pack. Sunyac is a battle every night and 1-4 could change drastically in one week. The season  is just to long for someone else to sneak into the top 4. Was geneseo supposed to be this bad? Not sure if they are fighting injuries ?

On a side note. Had a chance to see the Magicman and his better half. I know that some of the Bengals coaches also had an opportunity to talk to the magic one.  Seems like he gets younger every year !

All-Time

Bengalsrule, You need to ask the Magicman for his Magic Wand.
I'm sure you guys were hanging out before and after the game.
I know he carry's it to Memorial Hall, think you need to borrow it for a few weeks.
I think the Plattsburgh Cardinals don't need it right now.

I asked him Friday night for a victory for my Red Dragons and he came through.
I knew Saturday against Brockport would be pushing it, but think it's your time to ask.
Every game is a battle in the SUNYAC, if you don't bring every night you are going to lose.
Think the conference this season is the most competitive in years.

A new D3hoops Top 25 was released tonight and Plattsburgh State has moved from the #17 spot to #15. They received 254 points which is  67 more than they got last week.

Rochester is the only other East Region team to make the poll and they are ranked #22 with 111 points. The Yellowjackets fell 10 spots after going 0-2 over the weekend in the UAA. They lost 173 points.

Plattsburgh States's Ian Howard was selected as the SUNYAC's Player of the Week for the week ending January 13th. Ian had an outstanding week doing what he does best and that's getting rebounds for his team. He's the unsung hero for the Cardinals as he gets the rebounds, the loose balls and many times just keeps the ball alive with a tap back or a dive on the floor to flick it to a teammate or tie up the other team's player. Nobody on Plattsburgh State works harder than Ian and nobody seems to have as much fun as Ian who always has a smile on his face. Not the big scorer, just a guy who beats you a number of ways.

Ian had 41 rebounds and 36 points in 3 games along with a pair of double-doubles. Congratulations to Ian on a great week.

Here's the write-up from the SUNYAC website:

"CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has selected Plattsburgh senior Ian Howard (Queens, N.Y.) as the Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week.

Howard averaged 12 points per game and 13.7 rebounds per game in Plattsburgh State's three game sweep this past week. In Tuesday's 79-76 buzzer-beater win over Potsdam, Howard shot 75% from both the floor and the free throw line, recording a double-double with a total of 12 points and a career-high 18 rebounds. The senior added three steals and three blocks as well. On Friday, Howard recorded eight points and eight rebounds in the Cardinals' 92-71 triumph over Fredonia. Howard then proceeded to record his second double-double of the week with 16 points and 15 rebounds in Plattsburgh State's 85-83 victory over Buffalo State. The Cardinal played 84 minutes last week, and while making 55% of his field goals."

Jan. 15     Three games scheduled for tonight with two of them conference matchups.

Pitt-Bradford  @  Fredonia State        7:00 PM

The Blue Devils take on their last non-conference opponent tonight looking to get win #2. Pitt-Bradford may be just what the doctor ordered. The Panthers are 3-10 this season and their 1 road win was at a school who is 0-15. Fredonia is favored to win this game by 6 points and after the way they've been playing lately I think they may come out on top. Blue Devils 73 Panthers 68.

Cortland State  @  New Paltz State        7:30 PM

These Red Dragons will be looking to bounce back from the loss to Oswego on Saturday, that ended their 8 game winning streak. The Hawks came oh so close to a perfect weekend against Brockport and Geneseo, beating the Knights on Saturday, after falling to Port in the last 10 seconds of the game on Friday evening.

The oddsmakers have made Cortland an 8 point road favorite in this game. The Hawks have played well in all 3 home conference games but I think Cortland has too much firepower for the Hawks to handle. Cortland is 8-2 in the last 10 games against New Paltz. I think they win another one tonight. Cortland 85 New Paltz 75.

Oswego State  @  Oneonta State        7:30 PM

So apparently the Lakers are who we thought they were....they slipped a bit at the end of December against a couple of non-conference foes but came roaring back with a pair of double digit conference wins this past week. Tonight they take on the other Red Dragons after easily disposing of their cousins in Cortland on Saturday.

Oneonta has struggled in the conference all season and if you had told me they would be 1-5 after 6 games, I would have bet a substantial amount that they wouldn't be. It won't get any easier tonight as they take on the league leaders, who have yet to taste defeat in the YAC. The oddsmakers have made Oswego a 7 point road favorite. I have to think they continue their winning ways. Oswego State 79 Oneonta State 73.

Oneonta leads Oswego 40-33 at the half.

Kevin Mackin with 13 points for the Red Dragons and Harrison Deegan with 7.

Cortland all over New Paltz 67-38 with 11 minutes to go in the game.

Fredonia wins  79-53 over Pitt-Bradford.

Oswego 72 Oneonta 69

The Lakers' Brandan Gartland hits a 3 pointer at the buzzer as Oswego escapes from Oneonta with the W. Oneonta's Joseph Bull hit a layup with 9 seconds left to tie the game at 69. Oswego's Liam Sanborn then dribbled the length of the court, drove toward the basket and kicked it back out to Gartland who had a clear shot and he drained it. Tough one to lose for the Red Dragons.

Great game to watch as the teams went at each other the entire night. Neither team could get much of an advantage on the other and the final 10 minutes featured 6 ties and 5 lead changes. The largest lead in the 2nd half was 8 points by Oneonta early on but the Lakers cut into that quickly and it was no more than a 2 possession game the rest of the way.

Liam Sanborn led Oswego and was the games's high scorer with 19 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists.

Joe Sullivan had 16 points 7 rebounds and 3 steals.

Brandan Gartland had 15 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists.

Tyler Pierre had a game high 9 rebounds and just missed a double-double with 9 points.

Oneonta got 18 points and 3 rebounds from Kevin Mackin.

Andres Rivera had 16 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals.

Joseph Bull had 15 points, a team high 8 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals.

Oswego won the shooting percentages and outrebounded the Red Dragons by a 38-26 margin.  Oneonta only had 5 turnovers to 15 for the Lakers.

Oswego improved to 12-2 overall and 6-0 in the SUNYAC. They will be back in action this Friday at 7:30 PM when they host #15 Plattsburgh State in a battle that could determine who's in first place.

Oneonta falls to 6-7 overall and 1-6 in the YAC. They will travel to Buffalo State this weekend to take on the Bengals at 7:30 Friday night.

Cortland 89  New Paltz 67

Cortland trailed 12-11 after 5 minutes then exploded with a 28-6 run that made it 39-18 and that set the tone for the rest of the way. The Red Dragons were up by 30 points at the break 51-21. The Hawks didn't give up and cut the lead to 18 on several occasions but the big hole they dug was too deep.

Cortland's Nicky Bonura led all scorers as he went 9x14 from the field. All 9 buckets were of the 3 point variety and he finished with 27 points. He added 6 rebounds as well.

Justin Cooper had 15 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists and 2 steals.

Ryan Schmadel had 14 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists.

New Paltz got 18 points from Nick Paquette and all his shots were also from downtown as he was 6x10. He added 4 rebounds and a steal in 24 minutes off the bench.

Scott Reisert had 10 points and 4 rebounds.

Isaiah Bien-Aise was the leading rebounder in the game with 10 boards. He added 2 assists, 2 points and a block in 19 minutes off the bench.

Cortland ups their record to 11-3 overall and 5-2 in the conference. They will host Potsdam State on Friday at 7:30 PM.

New Paltz is now 7-7 overall and 2-5 in the YAC. They travel to Fredonia for a Friday night game also at 7:30 PM.
