Oneonta loses on a last second 3 pointer to Alvernia 71-70.

Oneonta was up by 5 points at 68-63 with 1:29 left to play. Alvernia hits a jumper, Oneonta misses on their end, Alvernia drains a three and with 22 seconds left and tied at 68 the Red Dragons call a time out. With 13 seconds left Dylan Trombley scores inside on a layup to give Oneonta the lead. Alvernia comes down takes a 3 point shot with 6 seconds to go which is off the mark, however the Golden Wolves get the offensive rebound and throw up an off balance three pointer that goes in with less than a second left to play. Tough way to open the season. Hope the Red Dragons learn from this game and move forward. Thought they were the better team and just didn't get the breaks.

Vassar leads Fredonia 37-23 with 15 minutes left in the 2nd Half.

bear,

I think the format of that live stat page might have had you looking at the wrong column. Fredonia was the team that was ahead 37-23 in the 2nd half.  In fact the Blue Devils never trailed the entire game and had a double digit lead 7 minutes into the game. Fredonia is 2-0 and already equaled their win total of last year, a week into this year's season.  8-)

What a difference a week makes.  Proud of the way my BENGALS bounced back vs a spunky Medaille squad today. Kay Grant continues to deliver (17 pts and 8 board) and Aaron Davis is showing that last weeks performance was no fluke. This freshman is giving the BENGALS something at pt guard that they haven't seen in a freshman since Norman Simmons.  Aaron's 19 pts ( 6 of 12 shooting) and 6 assists are just what the dr ordered.  Shelton Adams seems to have found his touch after a dismal season opening performance last week.  The most pleasant surprise was Jordan (JC) Christopher.  His double double (14 boards 13 pts) made my day. JC is probably one of the most quiet BENGALS in recent memory, but tonight his actions spoke louder than words.

Having watched a tough Washington Jefferson squad sneak by Morrisville ( who just beat Brockport) in the 1st game of the Coles tournament today, let's me know that we have our work cut out for us tomorrow!  Got a long way to go and a lot of work to do, but after seeing the fight my boys had today......I'm encouraged!

Go BENGALS!

Nov. 16            Six more games on tap on today all in weekend tournaments.  Four teams playing in the championship game and 2 teams trying to come back by winning the consolation matchup. The YAC went 5-2 yesterday. I'm hoping we can go 4-2 or better today.

Very busy so only time for some quick picks.

Plattsburgh State  vs CCNY  2:00 PM  at Hartwick College   Consolation game of the Hartwick Basketball Tip-Off Tournament

Cardinals impressed me with their comeback and hanging with Farmingdale State yesterday. The freshmen played good and they will get better. I think Plattsburgh can win this game but I don't think it will be as much as the 30 points posted by the oddsmakers. It is my birthday though and I would like a present soooo Let's Go Cards!! The long bus ride home will be better with a win.   Plattsburgh 89   CCNY 70.

Wesley  at  Oneonta State        3:00 PM                    Consolation game of the Oneonta Quality Inn Tournament

Oneonta let one get away yesterday and the players should come back with a vengeance today.  The point spread favors the Red Dragons by 9. I think they win 86-79.

Fredonia  at  Nazareth        3:00 PM                             Championship game of the    Mike Daley Tip-Off Tournament

The Blue Devils have won 2 in a row, but I think they come up short in this one. The point spread in 15 points  and I'm hoping that Fredonia can pull off the upset here. I just can't predict it....Nazareth wins but the Blue Devils beat the spread.
Final score Naz 80 Fredonia 69. Hope I'm wrong.

Geneseo State  at  Gettysburg  4:00 PM                            Championship game of the Gettysburg Tip-off Tournament

The Knights are slight 2 point underdogs in this game so I'll go with the conference team and hope they can beat the Bullets at home. Final score Geneseo 75 Gettysburg 71.

Washington and Jefferson  at  Buffalo State   4:00 PM         Championship game of the Coles Classic Tournament.

The Bengals are looking to win the Coles Classic for the first time in 3 years. They are favored to do so by a 9 point margin. That might be a tall order as the Presidents beat Morrisville State 63-59 yesterday to get into this championship game. And just in case you forgot... Moville State beat Brockport last week, 73-70. The Bengals had 4 guys in double figures yesterday and looked good beating Medaille by 10. I'll ride the Bengals for another day but not sure they cover the 9 points. Buffalo State 81  Wash and Jeff 76.

Oswego State  vs Keystone College  4:00 PM   at Elmira     Championship of the Elmira Tip Off Tournament

The Lakers played a solid first half yesterday to lead by 12 points at the break over Ithaca. The 2nd half was a bit of a letdown and they allowed the Bombers to hang around far longer than they should have. Still, it was the first game and you take the win and improve as the season goes along. Freshman Jeremiah Sparks had a nice debut as he scored 15 points, with 4 boards and a couple of helpers. Another new face, Jordan Brown had 9 points and 8 boards in 17 minutes of court time. Both newcomers started by the way. Sophomore Julien Crittendon, who showed promise last year at times, came off the bench to provide a nice scoring punch at crucial points in the game. The 3 returning starters... Sanborn, Sullivan and Gartland has 9, 11 and 22 points respectively. Sullivan controlled  the boards with a dozen rebounds and Sanborn dished out 8 assists.

Keystone advanced to the title game by downing the host Elmira Soaring Eagles by a 77-68 final score. The Giants had 4 guys hit double figures, so they have options on offense. At least they did against Elmira. The Lakers may prove to be a bit tougher to score on.

The Lakers assistant coach James Holmes, needs to keep an eye on Coach Leone today. He may have a tendency to walk back to the wrong bench at certain points in the game when he's traversing the sidelines. Might try the Mike Deane trick and put a seat belt on his chair. ;D Today marks the first time Coach Leone and the Lakers have faced off against the Keystone Giants since he left Keystone to take the Oswego job for the 2011-12 season. So you can excuse him if he goes to the wrong bench. The sight of those Keystone jerseys may cause some momentary flashbacks.

The oddsmakers don't think the Oswego coach will be too kind to his former team though, as they have made the Lakers a 21 point favorite. That sounds like a lot and I think the coach will get everyone into the game if the lead get large. I'm taking the Lakers to win but by a few less that the spread. Oswego 88  Keystone 72.

Plattsburgh State leads CCNY 37-31 at halftime.

The Cardinals opened up a 16 point lead at 29-13 with 8:27 to play in the half but 7 turnovers and 3x11 shooting from that point on let the Beavers back into the game. A 16-2 run allowed CCNY to close the gap to a 2 point 31-29 deficit with 2 minutes to go. The Cardinals then closed the half with a 6-2 burst to lead by 6 at the break.

Travis Cox and Axel Rodriguez had 9 points each for the Cardinals. Nick DeAngelis with 5 points and 5 rebounds.

Athanasios Kamberis is the top scorer for CCNY. Yassine Sakh has 8 points and 6 rebounds.
