New Paltz defeats Sage 77-74.

I had the Hawks winning by 4 points 86-82. The teams didn't get that many but the MOV was close.

The Hawks come from 12 points down with 13 minutes left to finally catch and pass the Gators, 71-69 on a Tristan Wisseman triple with 3:50 to go. The Gators tied the score at 71 but Scott Reisert scored to put the Hawks in front to stay. Jake Passaretti scored on a drive to increase the Hawks' lead to 3 points but the Gators scored inside and the Hawks turned the ball over allowing Sage a golden opportunity with 34 seconds left. The Gators came up empty with 16 seconds on the clock and had to foul. Passaretti made both free throws and set the stage for Sage to try and make a game tying 3 pointer. They got off a clean shot that missed but got the rebound and fired up another 3 that was also off the mark. The Hawks had completed the comeback and improved to 2-1 on the season.

Richard Altenord  led 4 players in double figures with 17 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals.  Jake Passaretti had 16 points, 6 assists and 2 rebounds.   Isaiah Bien-Aise had 13 points and 7 rebounds.  RJ Meyers-Turner had 11 points and 3 rebounds. Nick Arthur came off the bench and filled up the stat sheet with 9 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, and 2 blocks in 20 minutes of court time.

Sage was led by Stuart Phair with a double-double of 21 points and 11 rebounds. He captured game honors in both categories.
Jalon Borders added 18 points and 4 rebounds.

The Hawks were outrebounded 44-41 and had more turnovers than Sage, 20 to 15.  New Paltz outshot the Gators in every category though.  New Paltz was 8x21 from long range while Sage only went 5x30. That was the big difference. The Hawks shot 46.4% to 36.8% for Sage from the field.

New Paltz improves to 2-1 and will take the floor again this Saturday when they travel to Throggs Neck, NY to take on SUNY Maritime  at 1:00 PM.

I may not be around here much in the next few days as I have to go into the hospital on Thursday for a surgical procedure. Nothing major but I'll be tied up for a few days.

I will be slowing down a bit this year and won't have as many predictions and summaries as I've usually had in the past. I'd like to thank the people who sent me well wishes with PM's and on facebook on my birthday last  Saturday. Also thanks to the many posters who have mentioned on here or sent me kind words concerning the content I post on the SUNYAC board. You know who you are.  8-)

Home from surgery 10 minutes ago. Almost forgot my Cardinals are playing tonight.

Surgery went fine. Hope the next few days are as good.

Plattsburgh State at SUNY Poly  7:00 PM

Cardinals haven't played this team in a few years.  The last time we did was the NCAA Tournament in 2010 and they beat us in Plattsburgh 71-65. That one still stings a bit. Hopefully tonight we get a little payback. The point spread favors the Cardonals by a 7 point margin and I anticipate a close game.  I'll take the Cardinals to win it by an 82-74 final score.

Plattsburgh 26    SUNY-Poly  40

Plattsburgh struggles from the field as they only shoot 9x29 from the field and 1x8 from behind the arc. They have their work cut out for them in the 2nd half. Cards trailed by as much as 17.

Erik Salo with 8 points and 3 rebounds to lead the Cards. Travis Cox also with 8 points and 2 rebounds.

Caleb Cabty with 12 points and 3 rebounds for the Wildcats. Josh Gregory with 9 points and 6 rebounds. Jesse O'Dell with 9 points and 3 boards.

Oneonta State  at Hartwick  7:30 PM

Didn't realize that the Red Dragons were even playing a game tonight.  Just found out and pulled up the video  to discover that Oneonta is leading at halftime 31-29.  The point spread has the Red Dragons winning by 3 points. I think they win by a few more. Oneonta 77 Hartwick 71.

Plattsburgh 54 SUNY-Poly 71.

The Cardinals won't win many games when 2 of their best shooters go 0-19.  The team was 19X63 from the field (30.2%) and only 2x17 from long range (11.8%) That says all you need to know about this game.  I hope this is the worst game the Cardinals play all year because I don't want to watch another one like this.

Freshman Eric Salo led PLattsburgh with 17 points and 8 rebounds.

Travis Cox had 12 points and 5 rebounds.

Cameron Ness had 10 points and 5 rebounds.

Poor shot selection and some sloppy passing didn't help when Plattsburgh trailed by double figures and needed to get back into the game. Need to forget about this game and focus on the upcoming Skidmore game.

Cards fall to 2-2 and travel to Saratoga on Monday November 25th to resume their series with Skidmore. Gme time is 7:00 PM

Another game I was unaware of Cortland played Division I Colgate in an exhibition game.

The Red Dragons lost the game 89-50 which isn't too bad. We got 50 and held them under 100.

Eric Edwards let Cortland with 15 points and 6 rebounds.

Oneonta loses the crosstown battle with Hartwick 82-78.

Red Dragons fall behind 59-50 with under 8 minutes to play. They got within two points at 59-57 but the Hawks always seemed to have an answer and pulled away down the stretch going up by 7 on a big 3 pointer by Kyle Bradshaw with 54 seconds to go.

Bradshaw led the Hawks with 31 points and 9 rebounds as he took top honors for the game in both categories.

Kevin Mackin had 17 points for Oneonta. Harrison Deegan had 16 points, 8 boards, and 6 assists.

Andres Rivera had 14 points and 9 rebounds.

Ian Schultz had 11 points and 5 rebounds.

The Red Draggons fall to 1-3 and will play an exhibition game next Tuesday at Division I Binghamton University at 7:00 PM

Thanks to my friends and fellow D3 fans for the PM's and well wishes concernng my hospital visit today.

Skin cancer in several spots required removal. Hopefully the surgeon got everything and I'll know more when the lab reports come back. Tuckered out from a long day, though.

Nov. 22           Just a single game tonight involving SUNYAC teams.

Fredonia        Pitt-Bradford        7:00 PM

The Blue Devils beat Pitt-Bradford last year 79-53. It was one of the two games  that Fredonia had in the win column. THe Panthers only won 4 games last year and have started out 0-2 this year. The point spread has the Blue Devils favored by 11 which may not be enough. Last year Fredonia won 79-53 and the Panthers lost 4 starters to graduation. I think the Blue Devils will post another win, taking this game 83-70.

Fredonia 83    Pitt-Bradford 89

I didn't get a chance to watch this game so I can only guess at why the Blue Devils were on the short end of the score. The Panthers shot 60.9% from long distance, which translated into 14 made three pointers (14x23). Fredonia had 7 three's in 19 attempts. The zebras certainly kept their whistles in their mouths and not in their pockets. 45 fouls were called in this game so the officials certainly didn't let them play. I looked at 35 other box scores from Friday night and this game had the most fouls called. Pitt-Bradford went to the line 34 times. They were 27x34. The Blue Devils were 18 of 24. Most of the other stats were fairly even but those two areas were the downfall for Fredonia.

There were nine ties and 23 lead changes in the game. After taking a 75-74 lead on a jumper by the Blue Devils' Adam Braniecki,  with 4:44 left to play, Fredonia fell behind 79-75 when the Panthers scored inside, got a turnover and buried a threeball. Fredonia got 2 free throws from Moussa Samassa and a jump shot from Dydy Bryan to knot the score for a final time with 2:54 to play.  The Panthers got another three pointer to go in front to stay on thier next possession. Fredonia had 4 chances to score over the next 2 minutes as they missed a jumper, got the ball back on a turnover, missed another jumper, got the ball back on a steal, missed a 3 pointer, got an offensive rebound and then committed a turnover.  With 34 seconds left and down 3 they fouled and the Panthers made 1 of 2 to make it a two possession lead. Fredonia went to the line and made 1 of 2, had to foul and the Panthers made them both for a 5 point lead. Needing a quick score, the Blue Devils instead committed a turnover and this game was over. Panthers made another pair from the line, Fredonia hit a three pointer, fouled again and the Panthers hit another 2 from the line to close out the scoring.

Fredonia
Dydy bryan led the Blue Devils and captured scoring honors with 21 points and had 5 assists.

Moussa Samassa had 15 points and 6 rebounds.

Adam Braniecki  had 14 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals, and 2 blocks.

Chad Biersbach had 13 points and 4 rebounds in 17 minutes off the bench.

De'Quan Smith had 12 points and 4 assists.

Chase Johnson only scored 2 points but led the team with 7 rebounds and had a pair of steals.

Pitt-Bradford
Jeffrey Fry led the Panthers with 19 points and 4 assists.

Justin Kusiappouh had a double-double with 12 points and a game high 10 rebounds.

Deondre Terwilliger and  Daniel Lynch both scored 14 points. Terwilliger had 5 rebounds and Lynch had 6 assists.

Alex Rodriguez had 12 points and  Zach Dahlstrand had 10.

Fredonia is now 3-2 and will be off until December 7th when they begin their SUNYAC conference season with a game against their travel partner at Buffalo State.

Nov. 23        Three games on the schedule for today all in the early afternoon.

New Paltz State  at  SUNY-Maritime        1:00 PM

The Hawks won a close game over the Privateers last season, 77-73 and this is the rematch on their court. Maritime is only 1-4 and they have struggled to put points on the board in their last 3 games, all losses, as they failed to hit the 60 point mark. The Hawks have been averaging over 85 ppg. Maritime has been missing one of their starting guards so perhaps if he returns they will show improvement on the offensive end. The oddsmakers have made New Paltz a 14 point favorite here. They could win by more. I think the score will be.... New Paltz 82 Maritime 66.

Houghton  at  Geneseo State                2:00 PM

Houghton isn't a team that the Knights have much history with as it looks like they only started playing aganst them recently. The series started 2 years ago and both games were Geneseo victories. Last year the Knights won 81-46. The first game, played at Geneseo 2 years ago, came right down to the wire as it was a 2 point game with 30 seconds to go. The Knights held off the Highlanders in that game to win it 85-78. Houghton comes into this game with a 1-3 record, the same mark as Geneseo, yet the point spread favors the Knights by a 15 point margin. I think that may be a bit high. Houghton lone win came against the team that beat Fredonia last night, Pitt-Bradford, and the score of that game was 92-79. I think that Geneseo should win this game and maybe they will score a double digit victory. The Knights haven't been too impressive in the scoring department in their last 2 games, unable to get out of the 50's. Geneseo wins this one though, 76-68.

Brockport State  at  Medaille                 2:00 PM

Brockport will face a scrappy Medaille team that has already played and beaten the team that handed the Golden Eagles their season opening loss...Morrisville State. Medaille also hung with perennial NCAA participant Wooster losing 110 to 100, stayed with Buffalo State most of the game, only down by 3 points with 3:27 left in the game and Nov. 15th. And then beat Moville 79-77 the next day on Nov. 16th. They pounded Wells College, 99-63 a few days ago. The Mavericks will be a handful and the Golden Eagles better come to play. Medaille has met Brockport 4 times in the past 10 years and their only win came in 2011 in the ECAC tournament at years' end.

The point spread favors the Golden Eagles by a 5 point margin and I think this should be a close game throughout.  I wonder if Brockport's Coach Dunne thought about calling up Plattsburgh State's Coach Blaine now that they are coaches in the same conference. It was Coach Blaine who either brought in or coached all of the current Medaille players as he was the coach there for the last five years. Would have been a good way to break the ice with the new coach.

I'm taking Brockport to win this one by an 82-78 final score.

New Paltz losing to Maritime by a 43-41 score at the half.

Jake Passaretti and  Tristan Wissemann both have 9 points to lead the Hawks. Wissemann also has a team high 4 boards.

Maritime has 10 points from Brendan McGovern.     Brennan Whelen and Alec Downes both have 6 points.
Whelen was the starting guard that had been missing so they are at full strngth.
