Week #4  The SUNYAC Player of the Week      Week Ending 11-30

Jeremiah Sparks   Oswego State     Freshman Guard    Write-up is from the SUNYAC website.

"The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) selects Oswego's Jeremiah Sparks (Jordan, N.Y.) as this week's PrestoSports Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week recipient.

Freshman Sparks scored 25 points and added 11 rebounds in leading Oswego to a 77-73 road victory over Nazareth College to help the Lakers remain undefeated at 4-0 on the season. The Jordan, N.Y. native scored 11 straight points in the key second-half run that put Oswego up for good."

Actually Jeremiah made 12 straight points for the Lakers taking his team from 53 to 65 points in a 3 minute stretch that gave them a 9 point lead.  Congratulations on a great game.

Dec. 6   Four games to start the SUNYAC season all tipping off at 7:30

Not much time to make my picks as I've been working (and still am) on my rundown of the teams for the season which i will post later on.

Cortland State   at  Geneseo State               7:30 PM

The Red Dragons will showcase 2 new players that I think will prove to be a handful for the Knights. The oddsmakers have Cortland favored by a single point. I think they win by a few more. Cortland wins 75-70.

Oswego State   at    Brockport State               7:30 PM

I believe the Lakers are coming off a loss that had them looking ahead to this game. And now that they have this game they may be sorry for what they wished for. Early season supremecy is on the line in this one. The Golden Eagles will be swarming and the Lakers don't have an exceptionally long bench. Fatigue could play a factor in this one. And so could turnovers. The oddsmakers have Brockport favored by a slim 2 point margin. Brockport tough to beat at home but if anyone can do it... it would be the Lakers. So I'll take Oswego to win by a 77-74 final score.

Plattsburgh State  at  Oneonta State         7:30 PM

These Red Dragons need to right the ship. Playing against their coach's old team gives them all the incentive they need. Oneonta is just 1-6 against Plattsburgh since Coach Conover took over at Oneonta but that 1 was the last time they met. Now he's looking to start a streak. Both teams come into the game with losing records on the young season. Plattsburgh had to replace all 5 starters and had to get  a new coach....not an easy feat. Oneonta had all 5 starters return and their 1-3 start is disappointing. They'll look to turn things around starting tonight. The point spread favors the Red Dragons by 4 points. I think they win by more, but hope I'm wrong. Oneonta 82 Plattsburgh 74.

Potsdam State  at  New Paltz State                  7:30 PM

These two teams are pretty evenly matched. New Paltz returns a little more than the Bears but Potsdam has some new faces that have provided some good offense. One of those new faces is Brandon Segar, who is averaging 16.3 ppg and 9.3 rpg through 4 ganes in a Potsdam uniform. Segar is a  6'6" junior forward and he didn't play in the Bears last game so his availability is in question for tonight's game. The other new face is 6'6" freshman center Tyrese Baptist. He's averaging a double-double of 11.8 ppg and 10.6 rpg.  The line on the game has Potsdan favored by 4 points and if Segar plays I think the Bears will win 82-78. If the Bears don't have Segar I think the Hawks will win this game by a final score of 78-73.

Potsdam New Paltz final was 83-70, refs decided they wanted to see a technical foul shooting contest at the end. Sad just sad.

Dec. 7               All ten teams in action today with all games tipping off at 4:00 PM

Oswego State  at  Geneseo State        4:00 PM

The Lakers coming off a tough loss to Brockport last night will look to get back on track after a 2 game losing streak. Their stay in the Top 25 will be over on Monday when the new poll comes out and they can get back to the business of winning basketball games. Geneseo will try hard but come up short. The Knights are 7 point underdogs. I think they lose by a few more. Oswego 82 Geneseo 71.

Cortland State  at  Brockport State        4:00 PM

The Red Dragons are 5 point underdogs in this one and will get a good idea of where they stand in the YAC pecking order when this weekend is over. Brockport looking for the early season league lead. I have to go with the Golden Eagles in this one by a 79-72 final score.

Plattsburgh State  at  New Paltz State   4:00 PM

The Cardinals played a solid first half yesterday against Oneonta. In the second half they couldn't keep up with the Red Dragons as Oneonta shot 59% to Plattsburgh's 30 %. They hope that won't be the case today. The Hawks look to rebound from the loss to Potsdam. Oddsmakers give the Cardinals a slight edge listing them as a 2 point favorite. I'll take my Cardinals in this one by an 83-81 final

Fredonia State  at  Buffalo State        4:00 PM

The Bengals haven't played in 10 days, the Blue Devils haven't played in 14 days. Both teams coming off identical 89-83 losses but the Bengals' was against stiffer competition. Bengals are favored by 11 points in this one. That sounds right. Buffalo State 84 Fredonia 73.

Potsdam State  at  Oneonta State        4:00 PM

The Bears are without one of their new players and he will be missed in today's game. Oneonta looked good yesterday in their win over Plattsburgh State. They may not shoot that well today but should still be able to get the W in this game. The oddsmakers have only favored them by 3 points but I think the Red Dragons will win by a few more than that. Oneonta 81 Potsdam 75.
