Bengal--I watched the Bport game on internet and felt back for your Buff St boys. They really took it on the chin, and I haven't experienced that type of game from them in many years. I don't know much about your team, but they got to pick it up to compete for playoff spot. Good luck down the road!

I don't think Dunne was too happy with his troops after sweeping favorites Oswego and Cortland and then getting smacked at Jerry Welsh Gym.  Sure didn't look happy late in second half.  Think his guys are pedal to the metal from here on out.

Jan. 17          Four games on tap for tonight.

New Paltz State  at  Geneseo State        7:30 PM

The Hawks still looking for their first conference win, while the Knights are looking to get a leg up for the final playoff position. The teams currently in 6th through 10 place will be duking it out for the 6th seed and beating those teams when you meet up with them could be the tiebreaker needed to secure that coveted spot. Geneseo with a win against Plattsburgh was ahead of the game until they lost to Fredonia last weekend. New Paltz has already dropped a game to Plattsburgh so a win here would get them back on even footing.

The teams have split the season series for the last three years, and the spread favors the home team Knights in this one by 6 points. It's hard to win on the road in the YAC, especially the longer trips. I have to go with the home team in this one as well.
Geneseo 68  New Paltz 64.

Plattsburgh State  at  Buffalo State        7:30 PM

The winner of this game could be in sole possession of the 6th and final playoff spot at the end of the day. Then all they have to do is hang onto it for the next 5 weeks. For two young teams that are struggling, that's as good a reason as any, to try and get the W in this one.

Both teams in need of a win as they try to end losing streaks....3 straight losses for Buff State and 4 straight for the Cardinals. The last time the Bengals beat the Cards was in the 'Burgh on January 7th, 2017. Before that it was in Buffalo on January 3rd, 2013. In between it's been all Plattsburgh as the Cardinals have won the last 4 in a row and 12 of the last 14.

The oddsmakers think that's about to change, however, as they have made the Bengals a 4 point favorite in this one. Plattburgh has been shorthanded all year long and even more so for the last few games. I'm hopeful that players who were sick are back in action tonight. I can't pick against my Cardinals even though I think they might struggle here, as this is the toughest trip they make all year. The Bengals will be riled up and pressing from one end to the other, but I'll still take Plattsburgh to win a close one....82-79.

Oneonta State  at  Brockport State        7:30 PM Featured Game of the Night

Brockport was hoping the other Red Dragons would win that game on Tuesday between the relatives. Cortland already had a loss (compliments of Brockport) and the Golden Eagles wanted Oneonta to pick up one as well. But Coach Conover's crew had something else in mind and got the road win at Cortland, to give them sole possession of first place. They would like more of the same tonight when they are the visitors again. However, Brockport, with a little luck, could be the one in first place all by themselves, when the night is over.

These Red Dragons will have something to say about that, as they are coming into the contest riding a 7 game winning streak and averaging 89 ppg in that stretch. Brockport is on a 2 game winning streak, since a loss to Potsdam temporarily derailed their march to the top of the standings. After their big wins against Oswego and Cortland ended the first semester of play, the Golden Eagles had a slight advantage, but the loss to Potsdam evened things out. A win tonight over another one of the top contenders could give them an edge once more.

Brockport won both games last season, but Oneonta won 2 of 3 games the year before that. Brockport is 13-5 in this series over the last 8 years. The oddsmakers have made Brockport a 6 point favorite in this game, but I think it might be closer than that. I see the Golden Eagles winning by a score of 88-85.

Potsdam State  at  Fredonia State        7:30 PM

The Bears are turning into the surprise team of the year as they keep showcasing new talent . The latest arrival, Isaiah Brown has now scored 68 points in 3 games, (26,21,21) and is averaging 7 boards per game. They also have a freshman big man, Tyrese Baptiste, who is a double-double machine. The Bears are 9-3 and haven't sported a record that lofty, at this point in the season, in 15 years. The fans in Potsdam are getting their mojo back.

Fredonia got a big win the other night as they came from 9 points down to edge Geneseo by a 64-62 final score. It marked the first time in over two years that the Blue Devils weren't in the SUNYAC cellar. Now they just have to find a way to keep from falling back down there. I don't think the Bears are going to do them any favors tonight.

The experts have made Potsdam a solid 14 point favorite in this one. I see them winning by a few more than that. Potsdam 87  Fredonia 68.

Not a guy I'd be interested in upsetting, that's for sure.

I agree with Magic with this being a high scoring affair. The points per game are within 1(83-82) and the defenses both are giving up 75 a game. Whoever can get that last stop will win this contest. It should be a fun game to watch. Too bad I can't be there in person but will be watching on the internet. Stake your claim to 1st place in the SUNY! Good luck Coach Dunne and the Eagles!!!!!!!

Plattsburgh leads Buffalo State 38-32 at the half.

The Bengals jumped out to an early 9-0 lead but the Cardinals shook off the bus legs and a 15-4 run put Plattsburgh in front by a deuce. From that point on it was 10 lead changes and 4 ties until Plattsburgh gained a slight advantage when Jeremy Eisenman hit a pair of free throws and then drained a three pointer in the Cardinals final possession.

Plattsburgh was led by Travis Cox with 9 points and 5 rebounds.  Afam Jaquish has 8 points and Eisenman has 7 points, 3 assists and 2 rebounds

The Bengals get 8 points,3 boards and 3 assists from Sheldon Adams.  Jordan Christopher had 5 points and 5 rebounds.

Brockport leads Oneonta 38-28 at the break.

Justin Summers with 8 points and 5 rebounds to lead Brockport. Tyree Grimsley with 7 points and 5 rebounds.

Geneseo 22 New Paltz 16 at the half.

Geneseo gets 5 points from Alex Merhige.

New Paltz gets 4 points from Nick Arthur.

I think they threw away the shot clock in this game.

Well, I certainly read that game incorrectly. The Eagles by 10 at the half and won by 20 vs Oneonta. They came to play tonight, great defensive effort all night and keeping their transition offense in sync all night. Oneonta is a good squad but didn't show the quickness to get up and down with the Eagles tonight. Enjoy tonight and get ready for NP tomorrow afternoon!!! Congrats Bport

I knew this was going to be a close game, so it doesn't surprise me that it took an overtime period to decide the winner. The Cardinals got a 3 pointer from Travis Cox with 29 seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 72 and the Bengals couldn't get the game winner, with their final possession of the 2nd half.

The Bengals got a 3 pointer from Sheldon Adams to start the overtime period but the Cardinals got back to back layups from Travis Cox and Axel Rodriguez to retake the lead. Rodriguez added a free throw to his layup to make it 77-75. The Bengals' Kay Grant tied the score with a bucket inside, but Plattsburgh went back on top when Erik Salo grabbed an offensive rebound and got the putback. The Cardinals stretched the lead to 2 possessions when the Bengals missed on their end and Adam Jaquish hit two free throws for Plattsburgh. Down 81-77 with 2 minutes to play Buffalo State needed a score, but again, missed a layup inside and Plattsburgh got the rebound, which was then knocked out of play by the Bengals. The inbounds pass went to the Cards' Rodriguez who broke away from his defender and headed straight for the hoop creating a three on two for Plattsburgh. He scored as he collided with Grant, who was clearly positioned inside the restricted area. The ref underneath the basket called an offensive foul as Cardinal Coach Blaine expressed his displeasure with the call. The official at mid court then consulted with the official who made the call, and the ruling was then changed to a blocking foul on Grant, with the basket counting and a free throw coming. Rodriguex missed the free throw but his basket gave the Cardinals a 6 point lead at 83-77 with 1:39 to play. It proved to be too much for the Bengals to overcome as the Cardinals got another basket from Cox and hit just enough free throws down the stretch. Up 87-82 after Plattsburgh's Nick DeAngelis made 1 of 2 from the line with 4 seconds left, the Bengals got a 3 pointer from Sheldon Adams at the buzzer to make it a bit closer.

Plattsburgh shot 50% (33x66) from the field but only 17.4% from long distance (4x23). They were 68% from the line (17x25).  Buffalo State shot 39.2% from the field (31x79), 48.1% from distance (13x27) and 58.8% 10x17) from the line.
The Cardinals had a slight edge in rebounding 45 to 42 and both teams had 18 turnovers. Plattsburgh assisted on 22 baskets while Buffalo State had 20 assists.

Plattsurgh
The Cardinals had a big night from Travis Cox who managed a double-double with a team high 27 points and a game high 12 rebounds. He added 2 steals and 1 assist.

Adam Jaquish just missed a double-double with 15 points and 9 rebounds. He added 2 assits and a steal. He was nearly perfect going 4x4 from the field and 7x8 from the line.

Freshman Axel Rodriguez had 12 points,  a career high 4 steals, 3 rebounds and 1 assist.

Freshman Erik Salo also had 12 points, 5 rebounds, a career high 5 assists and a block.

Jeremy Eisenman had 9 points, a career high 5 assists, 4 rebounds and a steal in 17 minutes off the bench.

Nick DeAngelis had a career high 7 assists, 7 rebounds, 6 points, 3 steals and a block.

Buffalo State
Sheldon Adams was the game's high scorer with 30 points and he was close to getting a rare triple-double as he grabbed 9 rebounds, and dished out 8 assists. He also had a pair of steals.

Jordan Christopher had a double-double as he scored 19 points and matched the game high of 12 rebounds that Plattsburgh's  Travis Cox had.

Mark Worthy  came off the bench and had 12 points in 23 minutes of court time.

Freshman Aaron Davis had a career high 10 assists, 3 points, 3 rebounds and a steal.

Kay Grant had 7 points and 7 rebounds.

Jordan Morgan had 6 points and 5 rebounds in 18 minutes off the bench.

Plattsburgh improves to 5-8 overall and 2-4 in the SUNYAC. They will travel down to  Fredonia on Saturday at 4:00 PM to take on the Blue Devils.

Buffalo State drops to 3-6 overall and 1-4 in the SUNYAC. They will host Potsdam State on Saturday at 4:00 PM
