Cortland bounces back with impressive 87-82 Tuesday beating of Scranton at C-St. Leads by one at intermission and tightropes to the finish line with clutch A. Coston, K. Lubin points. Survives Scranton 58.5 fg assault. RDragons A. Grunder with 29 pts, 14 reb, 5 assts; Lubin 17 pts, Coston 16 pts, 6reb in 27 minutes; C. Williams 14 pts. Pennsy's J. Danzig 31 pts, 5x7 3s, 9 reb, 4 stls; S. Braunstein 13 pts.
Cortland 10-2, Scranton 9-3 after opening 8-0, then pair of setbacks in Puerto Rico. Corts fall by 30plus at Scranton a year ago.

I wonder how good Cortland is. They've had Grunder in the past and have been a middle of the pack SUNYAC team. They've had some good quality wins, so could they actually unseat Oswego St or Brockport, who always seems to be good.

Cortland has a frosh big(Coston) who played well against Scranton; he allows Grunder to roam wherever on offense and may be the ingredient missing the previous 2 seasons.

This should be a good test for both teams.

Crowded at the Top of the SUNYAC.

Cortland at 7-0,
Oswego at 6-1 [Home Loss to Brockport],
Brockport 5-1 [Home Loss to Cortland],
Oneonta, New Paltz [both had road wins against the other] - 5-1.

Looking forward to watching

My Eagles turned a close halftime score,42-39, into a blow out in the 2nd half. Final score 86-62! The Eagles haven't played with that defensive intensity since the Oswego game. Cortland couldn't mount any kind of offense in the second half. Beckett caught fire and finished with 27 points and Wallace added 16 points and played well at both ends. This was a great team effort with many contributors at both ends of the floor. Well done, Bport!

Big weekend @NP and Oneonta. Good Luck

A correction to this weekend's games, NP and Oneonta will be at the Port!!! Let's go Eagles!!!

Greek Tragedy

Big test for Oneonta today. The last few years they've always seemed to be on the cusp of breaking into the elite category in the conference. They got the win last night, so topping Brock would be huge. They have yet to play Cort or Oswego.

Oneonta remains on "the cusp." They are a very good team and Bull is a horse(get the play on words) but still looking up to the top of the heap. The Eagles were on the ropes but TA hits a twisting layup in final seconds for the victory. Bport moves to 8-1 in conference play and complete a very strong weekend of play. Keep it going. Congrats!!!!

Bport is on the most dreaded trip of the season to the "North Country." They played a close first half with Plattsburgh but lead by 3, 41-38 getting loose. They used the first 10 minutes of the second half to extend that lead to double digits and coasted from there winning 81-63. They got some good minutes out of a couple of their freshman players which was nice to see. Good start to the weekend.

On to Potsdam and hopefully another victory. Good luck today!!!!

Caz Bombers

Oswego has certainly been the class of the YAC for a while now, but I've never seen them slaughter teams like they're doing this season. Ever since they "only" won by 8 at Oneonta a few weeks ago they've scored at least 97 in every game and are winning by 30-60 points. They beat New Paltz by 59 tonight and NP will be a SUNYAC tournament qualifier, not like they're Fredonia or anything.

Could the Lakers possibly be Final Four quality? Definitely maybe, right?

stlawus

Lakers are fully capable of making it to the final weekend.  Watch the committee screw them out of hosting the first round.

Lakers are very deep, remind me of the Potsdam undefeated team of the 80's; first rate starting five, and little to no dropoff in quality from the bench.

Jeremiah Sparks is a "swiss army knife player"  can dominate, and makes everone around him better, scores, rebounds, passes, great defender.

Oswego classes are in session for a first round pod, and have a facility that seats 3,000 plus. They also have a showplace hockey arena to boot.

The first weekend works for Oswego, but the second doesn't because the students are on break and they will be in the mix to host NCAA hockey.

Rochester did lose last night, so we will see where the NCAA regional rankings come out.

The discussion on the happy hour segment of the Hoopsville marathon re hosting sounded like one would need to be willing to host both weekends so it might be an argument between Oswego basketball and hockey as to which one would apply for the hosting.
