Great game by the Oswego State Lakers to go to #1 Randolph-Macon's court and end  the Yellowjackets 64 game home winning streak.

Lakers took this game over right from the start and had a double digit lead throughout much of the game. Led by as much as 16 points in the 2nd half before the Yellowjackets made a run to close within 3 points. Lakers promptly opened it back up to double digits and hit their free throws down the stretch. Final score was 74-63.

Jeremiah Sparks with 24 points, Ahkee Anderson with 22 and Devin Green with 13 led the way. Jamal Achille was the leading rebounder for Oswego with 8 boards while adding 9 points.

I believe this is the first time the Lakers have made the Elite Eight, after knocking on the door a few times in the last 6 years. They will now face UW-Whitewater who defeated Johns Hopkins in overtime 83-82.

D3hoops is showing the game starting at 7:00 PM Saturday evening.

Go Lakers

Oswego State falls to UW-Whitewater 77-74.

Tough loss tonight by the Lakers. Great season for the SUNYAC Champs. I'm sure they will be back next year looking to dance once again.

Congrats to Coach Jason Leone and his team on a nice run in the tournament.

Congrats to Coach Leone and the Oswego Lakers!!! You guys represented the SUNY's with distinction!!! I watched all 3 of your games even though I am a die-hard Port fan. Enjoy the off-season and see you next season!!

Greek Tragedy

Any word on the listed seniors returning next season? Green, Achille, Cook for Oswego St; Wallace, Grady, Cowie for Brockport; Williams, Cabrera, Preston for Cortland; Bull, Derice, Ortale for Oneonta.

Grunder played in the All-star game, so he's done.

I remember reading that Green was the only senior recognized on senior day for Oswego ... while he is a big loss, they will be loaded again next year.

nescac is correct, Green is the lone departure. Achille and Cook return next year.

I don't think Wallace at Brockport has remaining eligibility.

I don't think Wallace at Brockport has remaining eligibility.

From looking up senior day photos the following A/C Players got photos, plaques, and mention in news release:

Oswego - Green - only senior. Achille is listed as a Sr. but has only played 3 yrs.
Brockport - Wallace, Grady, (4) total
Oneonta - Bull, Derice, [Ortale 21-22]
Cortland - Grunder [7 total]
NP - [2 Total]
Geneseo - [2 total]
Potsdam - Segar [3 total]
Plattsburgh - [3 total]
Fredonia - [2 total]
Buffalo State - [2 total]

Some of these folks have a year of eligibility left, but unless they are A/C level players, doubtful they want to spend close to $20K in tuition and living expenses for that last year.

Cortland has the most (7) and biggest [Grunder] individual holes to fill, although conference ROY Coston should be able to replace some of Grunder's production.

Tom Spanbauer stepping down after 28 years as head coach at Cortland. End of quite the era!! Compiled 459-277 record from 1995-2023 with the RDragons after spending one season piloting Alfred U. Was 6-time SUNYAC coach of the year. 'Span's' Cortland outfits were 3-time conference tourney titlists and 6-time NCAA tourney qualifiers. Outstanding collegiate Dragon playing career as well .....2-time captain, 2-time All-Conference and 1,106 point producer.
Well done .....a competitor of the first order!!!

Just learned that Potsdam has added a game against D-I U Albany on December 5th.  7 PM tip at the Broadview [formerly SEFCU] Arena.

Not that Oswego St needs to be any better, but 3rd teamer Jamal Achille is on their roster as a grad student. Also returning as a grad student (again?) is Julian Crittendon , who apparently missed last year, but was the 3rd leading scorer in 21-22 behind Sparks and Green. Lastly, their top reserve, Kaleb Cook, is back as a grad student, along with a couple of transfers.

Cortland has Ithaca down a good deal of Thursday opening contest at CSt but big buckets by Bomber spare A. Geschickter provide spark for IC 85-81 overtime victory. Geschickter with 15pts (5x11fg, 3x5 key 3s) in 22' -- one of five Ithacans in double figures. Vet L. Wendell with 21pts (7x19fg, 3x7 3s) in 39', A. Holmes 13pts, T. Wennersten 10 pts, E. Cabral 10pts. Six RDragons in double figures led by holdovers D. Linehan 17pts (6x13fg, 4x8 3s) in 36'; K. Lubin 10 pts. Newcomers J. Warmack with 13 pts, 11rebs, 7assts in 45'; Belgian P. Hajjar 16pts; B. Beaubrun 12pts; reserve N. Button 11pts in 16'. Conference top rookie A. Coston just 2pts, 4rebs in 17'.
IC trails by 11 late in poor shooting first half before drawing within 34-26 at half. Strong final half 47 point performance. Finally seize slim late lead in what becomes 73-73 regulation windup. Corts front rim final attempt. Outscore hosts 12-8 in OT. Big difference in turnovers -- 23 CSt, 7 IC. Dragons with hefty 50-31 board gap.
Ithaca spoils head coaching debut of Mo Kearney

It is almost time for Hoops to begin. Couple of huge changes in the SUNYAC coaching ranks, Coach Spanbauer from Cortland and Coach Dunne from my beloved Eagles. Those guys had great careers as players and coaches, and I wish them both the best in their future endeavors. They will be greatly missed, but I am sure neither program will miss a beat.

I know Interim Coach Joe Clarke and am sure he will continue to maintain the excellence of play at the Port. They have alot of returners and looks like they added some much needed inside players.

They open up tomorrow night @ Hobart! Good Luck Coach Clarke and my Eagles!!!!!
