Obviously they're not in the SUNYAC anymore but those that recall SUNY Poly (fka SUNYIT) will remember the name Kevin Grimmer, he was synonymous not only with their MBB program but all Wildcats athletics. Apparently he passed away on Monday, too young. RIP.

The Eagles had a seesaw battle with the Hobart Statesman on Tuesday before dropping an 85-72 contest to the Statesman. Hobart closed it out with a string of free throws to gain the victory. They are a very strong team with very good guard play. Congrats to the Statesman.

My Eagles travel to Pennsylvania for a couple of games, starting with Keystone College tonight. Good Luck, Coach Clarke and Bport!!!

Kevin was a Utica native and an 1980-81 NABC All-American at Hamilton College in his playing days.

TIMBOSTEW

New Paltz forces 22 turnovers, takes at least 20 more shots and loses to Bard at home by 2. Brutal. They had their shot blocker on the bench at the end of the game and Bard basically picked apart their  defense and shot lights out to win. Tough loss

I don't think the SUNYAC has an official preseason poll, so for those in the know, what would it look like?

Based on my reading of the tea leaves and returning rosters, I would venture that
1 Oswego - Loaded team who defeated the #1 ranked team in the Sweet Sixteen.
2. Brockport, lots returning, would like to make their last year in the SUNYAC a success.
3,4,5 Some combination of Cortland, New Paltz, Oneonta, - looking at rosters they seem tightly bunched.
6, A food fight amongst Buffalo State, Fredonia, Geneseo, Potsdam, Plattsburgh for one playoff spot, again 5 teams all closely bunched.
7-10 whoever from above that doesn't get the 6 seed.  All these teams have significant roster changes.

As Lou Grant would say, Cortland shows spunk! Battling from 17 point deficit, RDragons outscore Plattsburgh 41-20 over final 17 minutes to register 78-74 conference home win. Third straight CSt 'W' has A. Coston (22pts, 10x14fg, 7reb, 36') bucket providing 64-62 lead at 4:49. Extends to 68-62 on K. Arcuri tipin at 3:20.
Cardinals within 69-68 at 1:49 on D. Trembley FTs. Coston hoop and J. Warmack, Arcuri FTs finish it. Warmack 22pts, 8x12fg, 7reb, 4assts in 36'. Notches nine Dragon marks in 11-0 liftoff. Burgh even at 19 and holds 44-35 halftime lead by shooting 16x30fg 7x12 3s in opening 20'. Second half comedown -- 11x33fg, 2x12 3s.
   W. Anderson 22pts, 9x17fg, 4x7 3s, 5reb; Trembley 17pts, 8reb; K. Tabb 11pts, 4 of Cards 11stls. Corts 29x53fg, 34-29reb edge. G. Beaubrun, D. Linehan with big late triples.
Cortland 3-2, 1-0 and Saturday Potsdam hosts; Pburgh 2-4, 0-1 and Saturday at Oswego

TIMBOSTEW

New Paltz showed grit last night after a poor shooting first half. Came up with the defensive stops at the end to hold off Geneseo at Geneseo. Will have to shoot better to get past Brockport today. If there 3's drop early , they will be tough to beat.

Cortland grabs fourth win in a row with Saturday 81-63 toppling of guest Potsdam in conference scrap. RDragons put 11 in scoring column, shooting 30x63fg led by K. Lubin19pts, 7x10fg, 2x4 3s, 14reb in 30'. J. Warmack 14pts, 5assts in 24'; P. Haggar 13pts, 45x7fg, 3x6 3s; A. Coston 11pts, 6reb; K. Arcuri 9pts, 5reb, 3stls. Haggar trey overhauls Pdam final 19-18 lead. Corts in 40-32 haltime control and gradually pull away in second stanza. P. Kelly 18pts, 8x15fg, 8reb in 27' pace Bears whose I. Oduro jr. nets 17 pts, J. Williams 10.
   Cortland 4-2, 2-0; Pdam 1-6, 0-2

TIMBOSTEW

New Paltz with a convincing win over Brockport last night. Won 67-55, held Brockport to 20 points in first half, it helped that Brockport missed there first 19 3 point attempts. Rylan Blondo with his usual steady game, 17 points, 11 rebounds. Solomon Neuhaus had 14 points in 11 minutes off the bench. Its good to see him getting minutes after not appearing in first 4 games. He brings a consistency  with his shooting touch. AJ Knight also steady game at the point with 11 points and Tyreik Frazier getting a season high 33 minutes which produced 11 points and 5 blocks. It was nice to see better shot selection and a season low 14 3 point attempts.

The SUNYAC-s got off to a good start this weekend with Oswego State winning their first two games handily and are now ranked #4 in this weeks D-3 Hoops Top 25 poll. Congrats to the Lakers!!!

My beloved Golden Eagles had an up and down weekend, beating Oneonta 87-76 on Friday and then shooting 29% the next day and lost to a good New Paltz squad 67-55.

I did notice that their best scorer, Beckett was missing from the box score all weekend. Must have had injury or illness. Hope he gets well soon, those are big shoes to fill. Go Eagles!!!

Buffalo State coach Fajri Ansari announced his retirement on Thursday, effective at season's end. The Bengals have really fallen on hard times the last six seasons.
