It nice to see a mention of Shereef Taylor  Freshman FDR/Hyde Park.  I watched him in high school and thought he would go to the next level.  He stayed home to play for New Platz and has steped into a leadership role as a freshman.  He may be the piece which New Platz builds around.  Always good to see a talented kid become successful.  He has always shown a level of maturity on the court.

Ithaca's 95-89 win over St. Lawrence this afternoon should give them the top ranking in the East region when the NCAA releases them in January. Don't see them relinquishing that spot for quite a while. Barring an upset in early E8 league action, their next toughest test could come against Potsdam St. on Jan. 13th in Ithaca. The Bombers are off until Jan. 2nd when they open up E8 play against Elmira. This is the 1st of 5 league games in 10 days, followed by the Potsdam game 2 days later. Ithaca has already beaten Cortland, Rochester, Oneonta, and St Lawrence, 4 teams that were contenders for the top spot in the East, and did so with road wins in all 4 instances. Could move up a couple of spots in the Top 25 ranking next week.

The shot by Scott Morton continues to receive national attention with a write up in this week's issue (Dec 15th cover date) of Sports Illustrated. Under SI Players on page 27, SI refers to it as "The shot of the year", and calls the end of the game between Geneseo and Oswego "one of the best college hoops finishes ever".

Thunder

I still think the finish of the D2 Championship a couple of years ago ( Barton and ???) was one of the best finishes in a college game. That was amazing the sequence of events.

The again there's the shot at the Carrier Dome last night.  65 footer banked in at the buzzer for the win.  Cleveland State beats the undefeated 'cuse.

I'd agree.  New Paltz has struggled early on, but Taylor has shown he has the ability--and desire-- to take over games.  Good things to come with that player.

1) How about the floater Mark Perry made against Hobart to send the Golden Eagles to the Sweet 16. Game winner by a senior in his possible last game on the road. Huge moment for the Brockport program.
2) Anthony Williams' half court heave against Rochester in the NCAA tournament. Another huge win for the SUNYAC.

Those two shots are probably the best two shots I've seen to win games. Anybody else remember them.

There are heaves and then there are jump shots. Anthony's shot was a perfectly executed jump shot, just over the half court line, which made it all the more amazing. ;D

I agree with you Magic, there are heaves and shots. I think both Perry's and Williams' were shots. Morton's was a trick shot by any standard(even though great finish to game). I witnessed Perry's shot and that was a huge step for my Eagles. That was the night Medbury(a freshman than became the real deal). He never realized how good he was!!

Now that we have all decided that a jump shot to finish a game is more amazing.  Lets once again go to the 1981 National Championship game ( I really wish the internet and You Tube were around then).  I personal only saw the shot on a large screen video played in the Student Union prior to the 1986 Championship.  We were undefeated and why not bring out some motivation.  Besides we had lost a heart breaker the year before to North Park.  When Spoon hit that shot the place went nuts.  Yes he was facing the basket and it was from about 45 feet. Yes it was amazing and it was a video.   I believe if the college were to play the tape of that game today the reaction would been the same!

I would add this caveat to the discussion of great shots.  The thing about Morton's shot that puts it at #1 for me (of those I've seen) is the sequence of events that led up to it.  Hitting the 3 to put Geneseo ahead with 10 seconds left, racing back down the court to try to take a charge and then getting off the ground to hustle back down the floor to be in position to make the shot.  Gotta give the kid an A+ for hustle and desire.

with age came?

I guess what it comes down to for me is the definition of amazing. A perfect form jump shot from 45 feet to win a game is a great shot but for me an amazing shot has to have a mystical element like Morton's.  Flicking a shot over your shoulder with .1 on the clock while imitating superman.  I would venture to guess that on any given night maybe a dozen high school games are decided on a last shot heave facing the basket from beyond 30 feet but I would probably doubt many are decided by a shot like Morton's or we would have seen it on ESPN already. ;D
