I see that Brockport knocked off Desales recently. I have heard from others on the e8 board that Desales was a pretty solid team, and they were 10-0. Was the win just a fluke thing, or is Brockport perhaps waking up from a really slow start?

Should find out about Bport pretty quickly. At conference leader Oneonta today and get good St. Lawrence at home tomorrow, then comes Chase followed by Oswego, Fredonia .........

Don't believe DeSales as good as its record. Opening six point win over SJF a feature. Only two or three other w's vs. teams with winning records. Still, Eagles may be coming together. See to have the talent, especially for SUNYAC which appears somewhat so-so.

As for the conference, have to take Oneonta and New Paltz seriously. Geneseo and Fredonia certainly draw respect. Oswego dangerous. Others unproven at this date. Discount Morrisville, of course.

Cortland? A preseason pick. Big disappointment. Plenty of problems in many areas from veteran crew. Dropped pair of 2OTers to good squads. Blown away at Geneseo last night and hosts Oswego today

Nation, I totally agree with you about having talent and having chemistry to win games. Obviously everyone has to buy in to what the coach wants and basically all the players that I named were able to conform to the team concept.

If you have that All-American type player that completely buys in to what the coach wants then it is easier to get everyone else on the same page. As far as the bench goes, you need to have a good bench to win on a consistent basis with the exception of those Princeton days when Carill was teaching the backdoor like it was their job, those guys consistently played 38-40 minutes almost every game.

Fredonia St. win their 2nd SUNYAC contest of the weekend with a 72-55 defeat of Potsdam St. Blue Devils up 36-21 at the break and lead by 20 to cruise. Freds led by Kevin Saunders with 22 pts on 7x15 fg. Wayne Davis added 16 pts on 4x9 fgs 4x6 3's and 4 assists. Julius Bryant  chipped in with 12 pts and 4 assists.
Damon Brown paced the Bears with 18 pts on 5x10 fg 1x5 3's 7x7 ft. Alvin Dike added 15 pts on 4x6 fg 7x9 ft. Fredonia moves to 9-2 (3-1 conf) and remains unbeaten at home this season. Bears in freefall losing 5th straight to go from 5-1 early record to 5-6 (2-1 conf).

Blue Devils off till next weekend when they face Oswego and then Morrisville at home.

Doesn't get any easier for Potsdam as the travel to Ithaca for a Tuesday matchup with the unbeaten Bombers. Several weeks ago I posted that this might be a hiccup in Ithaca's battle to run the table or at least remain unbeaten a while longer.  Now feel the Bombers will win by double figures. Teams split 2 games last year with Bears beating Bombers minus Bostic in Clarkson's gym by 11 93-82. A healthy Ithaca returns the favor 2 months later 83-75. Don't think the Bombers are overachieving but the Bears are definitely underachieving.

"the bear" out in San Diego for the week, has this game circled on his calendar. Might not like the results though unless Potsdam wakes up.

Oneonta rebounds from their loss to NYU with a win against Brockport to remain undefeated in conference play at 4-0. Stretch overall record to 9-4. Red Dragons grab lead with 4:47 remaining in 1st half and never headed. Up 29-20 at the break  they quickly stretch lead to 17 by the 14 min mark and settle for 8 pt win. Eagles fall to 3-5(0-3 conf.)
Oneonta was paced by Troy Talbert with 19 pts (5x7 fg 9x13 ft), Michael Grimes with 16 pts (8x12 fg), and Brian Beckford with 6 pts, 10 rebounds and 3 assts.
Golden Eagles Mychal Wilkes led all scorers with 24 pts (10x18 fg 2x5 3's). Eamon Kays added 15 pts (7x17 fg) and 7 boards.

Oneonta off till next weekend when they make the northern run to take on Plattsburgh and then Potsdam.

Brockport, right back at it tomorrow, facing another tough game against St Lawrence, before the Chase tourney begins on Wednesday.

Actually greater Anaheim for the week.  Helping my better half as she takes 16 of Potsdam's very best to the annual NAMM music industry trade show at the Anaheim Convention Center.

Nevertheless, Bears skid is puzzling, Both teams in Fla were for real, Fredonia continues to impress, Buff State has talent, and seems to be jelling.  Potsdam had some injury problems at end of first semester, but boxes indicate all hands on deck.

Problem appears to be reliance on very young post players, and point guard by committee.  Ship needs to change course, and facing a nuclear Bombers team at the bulb this week.

My bigger question is the New Paltz/Geneseo score.  I think the New Paltz/Oneonta road trip is going to define who the real contenders are in the SUNYAC.

My bigger question is the New Paltz/Geneseo score.

Seriously, what the hell happened?  Anyone?

Caz Bombers

I think it might be an indication that New Paltz doesn't suck for the first time in forever.  However, there is evidencet that its 4-1 start in SUNYAC play might be a mirage - 4 of those games were at home and the 1 roadie was at the utterly pathetic Morrisville Mustangs.  Next four YACers are on the road at Potsdam, Plattsburgh, Geneseo and Brockport...no joke even if the Cards and Eagles are down this year.

As jdex posted in his summary: Geneseo field goals 21 of 68, 1 for 12 3's.  New Paltz 35 for 65 fg's 9 for 16 3's. I think that pretty much sums it up.

Considering the fact that all those teams have losses this season that would lead anyone dumbfounded, I would say the weekends are up for grabs.  Your skepticism warranted, but if we are going to look at numbers here, New Paltz clearly doesn't mean what it used to mean.
