Re Mike:

Siena won't happen.  D'Argenio is the AD, and he was only the SID when Mike was there.  Understand Mike was very tough on him (but always remember he's toughest on himself) in those days.

I was thinking that Binghamton could benefit from a guy like Mike to clean up their reputation.  Know he was in the mix the last time, but they obviously made a bad & costly decision.  He's the perfect guy to recruit student athletes to a place like Binghamton.  Here's Hoping.

Thanks for the offer, but appts are both Monday & Tuesday and then I have to get back to work

E8 always tends to underachieve when they get to the NCAA's.  Still remember facing undefeated Fisher team with supposed all-world point guard in '05, They just couldn't stand the defensive guard pressure, and their bigs just weren't competitive.  Perhaps this year, with Fisher hosting they will advance further.

Plattsburgh State's Steve Thomas has picked up the final SUNYAC Player of the Week award for the 2009-10 season. Thomas, a junior transfer from Clinton Community College, won the award for the first time as a member of the Plattsburgh program. This past weekend he was named as the MVP of the SUNYAC Tournament leading the Cardinals to a 67-60 win over Oneonta in the championship game. He was the leading scorer in that game as he finished with a double-double of 28 points and 10 rebounds. For the week he averaged 21 points and 9.3 rebounds in the Cardinals 3 victories. he shot 19 x40 (47.5%) from the field and 23 x 29 (79.3%) from the foul line. On Monday he was named to the SUNYAC All Conference 2nd team.
For the year, Thomas is second on the team with 17.0 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. He leads the team with 31 steals, has 12 blocks, and is second on the squad with 66 assists.

Next up for the Cardinals is the first round of the NCAA Tournament, as they take on SUNYIT at 8 PM Friday evening March 5th, following the opening game between Nazareth College and Medaille at 6 PM. Tickets for the games will be sold at the door on gameday starting at 4:30. Prices for each day of competition are $6.00 for general admission and $3.00 for students and senior citizens. Pat,

In reference to the Plattsburgh Bracket. I think the Basketball Cards will have the communities full attention. Hockey Cards on road in Oswego for SUNYAC Title on Saturday night.

Also Baseball Cards on road in Myrtle Beach which will open up more seats for the locals to take a look at the team.

Glad to see Coach Grimmer headed back to the North Country!

Quick question for anyone who knows the Sunyac well, but more specifically Geneseo.  I've keeping an eye on them for the past few years and to me it just seems like they are poorly coached and don't utilize the talent that they have.  I feel that they have had good talent in the past couple years but it has been poorly managed.  What do you think about this?

thebear

With their high selectivity and academic profile, Geneseo should be an elite program similar to the UAA schools.  Still there are a lot of student athletes that couldn't get into Geneseo, even with help from the admissions office.  Roster was loaded with talent, Stevens, Miller, Simpson all quality D-3 players.

Geneseo has a special talent program, thus can offer an education at an elite (but still reasonably priced) school as an incentive.

They dominate in some sports, e.g. Cross Country, Swimming Lax, are competitive at a national level.  Their women's teams seem competitive across the board in nearly every sport.

Not sure what the missing variable in the equation is, They are in a great recruiting area, and have decent direct superhighway access to NYC & LI.

Hate to diss individual coaches on the board, has a habit of coming back to bite you.

I'll throw my two cents in -- I'm hoping for an IC/Brockport final.  IC's uptempo style mixed with Brockport's full throttle defense would make an exciting matchup.  I think IC has solid enough guard play to handle the pressue as long as Rossi is strong with the ball -- he can be turnover prone at times but is way ahead of the freshman learning curve.  I think Jordan Marcus is hoping for a rematch with Hobart since he lit them up for 45 in the season opener.  Anyone know anything about RPI? Should IC have trouble with them?

Don't forget, final three-plus hours to enter the D3hoops.com bracket challenge.

You have extra time for the women's bracket, since the first game isn't until 4 p.m. ET on Friday.

Just wanted to get some discussion going on the ECAC. Two teams vs one each for the other 2 leagues was part of it.  Think LL has been underated this year because the league is so balanced.  On the last weekend 7 of 8 teams were in the playoff hunt. 6 of 8 teams were .500 or better in the league.  RPI has some length that could give IC some trouble. Philatre is long and lanky 6'8" and they had another big that is a banger.  Good swingman in Rupp and guards by committee (lots of guys get some time).  Had NCAA experience last year but lost the "stud" Simmons to graduation. Played Middlebury (#9 ) very tough, MIT (#21) even tougher and beat SLU who was the liberty league champion twice.  That being said they are up & down as they finished 7-7 in the league and did not make the LL playoffs. Hobart is playing very well as of late and owns a victory over SJF.  Also possess a loss to Ithaca.  Other than St Law I felt they were the best team in the LL at the end of the season.  They are young and they are getting better. Brockport seemed to stumble a little at the end of the season (losing a lot of close games) but they do have the advantage of homecourt. Just like the LL chances with 2 teams but as always with IC live by the 3 die by 3 & Brockport has to capitalize on homecourt.  What are your thoughts Scootman?

Fun Facts regarding Plattsburgh Bracket:

Kevin Broderick (Nazareth Coach) and Kevin Grimmer (SUNYIT Coach) both use to coach in the SUNYAC. Broderick at Oswego and Grimmer for the same team.

Floyd Thorne of SUNYIT use to play at nearby Paul Smith's College.

Medaille coach Mike Macdonald use to play in PBA basketball tourney in the Burgh. This was an adult men's tournament that use to show case a lot of former college players that once played their games in the North Country. (I.E. Mike Deane, Rick Carlisle, etc.)

I really don't follow the LL at all. I just knoiw that Brockport beat St. Lawrence early in the season, and they are the LL representative to the NCAA. From watching from afar I was not impressed with the LL league. Ithaca is young but has talent and the E8 was a very good league at the top 5-6 teams. Brockport is my pick to win it because they bring it every night. They are undersized, but play with a lot of heart and soul. Coach Dunne and his staff get the most out of what they have. Even being vertically challenged they have a great Assist /TO ratio and share the ball. They are not a lock to win a championship but will be there in the end. Good luck, Eagles!!!!!

I wouldn't rule out Hobart.  Although I haven't seen them play I know they won at Fisher and have a relatively experienced team.  Stefan Thompson was ROY in the Liberty League and the one game I saw him in high school he dropped like 35 @ Manley Field House in the sectional final.  That was a great game that ended with a kid (not Thompson)with the ball at halfcourt with three seconds to go trailing by one. He dribbled down and laid it in as time expired.  Huge lapse in defense cause the other team had no one back.  I was nervous for the kid -- no one in front of you three seconds to go down one point in the sectional final.  I know all he had to do was dribble down and lay it in but easier said than done at that juncture. But I digress --- Hobart very easily could knock off Brockport.

Plattsburgh St. Coach Curle also was the coach at SUNYIT for 1 year back in 2002-03 leading the Wildcats to a 17-10 record and a berth in the ECAC's. SUNYIT finished with an 11-5 SUNYAC record that year and was 2nd in the conference standings after being picked to come in 10th in the preseason poll. I believe it was the best finish the Wildcats ever had in the SUNYAC conference and their 11 conference wins were the most in school history. The following season he became the Plattsburgh St. coach.

Here's my guesses on tonight's action involving New York teams.

Plattsburgh St. 82    SUNYIT  70
Medaille 76   Nazareth  72
St. John Fisher 73  Brooklyn 65
Brandeis 77  St. Lawrence  68
Oneonta 68  Franklin and Marshall  66

Hope I'm wrong on the St. Lawrence score.

Naz/Medaille is tough game to pick because of Medaille's weak schedule, but they do have an impressive win over John Carroll.

Oneonta with a tough game against D3Hoops #20th ranked Franklin and Marshall  and are the dogs here but the Red Dragons own a win over #10th ranked William Paterson and I think they can get it done here if they play to their potential.

Time to go get my tickets for the games in Plattsburgh tonight. I'll come on after the games with a synopsis of them.    GO CARDS!!!
