NABC selects All-Americans differently than D3hoops.  They pick one player from each region for each All-America team.  So the best player in each region is 1st team, 2nd best is 2nd team, and 3rd best is 3rd team.

D3Hoops announced this year's All American Teams prior to Saturday's National Championship Game.

Corey McAdam from Nazareth was named to the second team. He was the only player from the East region who was honored. I was surprised that David Golembiowski of SUNYIT was not on the list anywhere. The Preseason All American list had Golembiowski on the 4th team and McAdam on the list of honorable mention players. After the year Golembiowski and SUNYIT had I fail to see why he was omitted from the post season all american awards.

No surprise for the Player of the Year honors as junior guard Steve Djurickovic of Carthage College won that award. Good chance he'll win it next year as well.

We just had too many good centers. Golembiowski was on the board all the way until the end. We couldn't even cut it down to five centers, the group was so well-qualified.

I understand. There were a lot of good centers this year in D3. The good news is Golembiowski is only a junior and next year might be his turn. No Diloo Brown to help him out though.

Just learned today that Plattsburgh State Associate Head Men's Basketball Coach Cameron Conover has applied for the Skidmore Head Coaching position. Conover has been at Plattsburgh State for the past 5 years assisting Coach Tom Curle and became the associate head coach several years ago. The Cardinals have been one of the top D3 schools in the state during that time winning 4 SUNYAC titles in 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2010. They went to the NCAA tourney in each of those seasons and will probably be favored to win the SUNYAC title again this coming season as they return nearly all of their starting lineup. Conover's time spent under Curle's tutelage should prove invaluable and would make him a good fit for this young Skidmore team. He has his masters degree and at 30 or 31 years old he's a candidate that will probably spend a considerable amount of time in his first head coaching position. Skidmore should challenge for the Liberty League title next year as they return most of their rotation. Hope the Thoroughbreds hire a good coach, whoever that turns out to be, but they sure can't go wrong if it ends up being Conover.

Found out yesterday that Coach Curle and Assistant Coach Conover have an outstanding group of recruits headed to Plattsburgh State this fall. Five freshmen, all between 6'5" and 6'7", will join the program and help the Cardinals defend their SUNYAC title.

Actually, I believe a couple of the 6'5" guys are guards and the possibility of a 6'10'' big man recruit is in the works. They do have 6'6" 1st team All Conference forward Errol Daniyan (15.2 ppg and 8.3 rpg) returning and 6'10" R.J. Ponesse who gave them some quality minutes last year will also be back and hopefully continues to improve.

That is a HUGE team, especially by East region standards.  If they are anything other than big stiffs then they have a shot at going deep in the NCAA's (if they progress from last year's NCAA appearance that is).  That is one major advantage come playoff time and is a requirement to compete with the Williamses and Amhersts of the world.  Look at Amherst's roster -- 11 players 6'5 or over.  Williams has 9 over 6'5.  When you compare that against top east region teams it is a decided advantage.

Yes U of R is one of the exceptions in the East region, which is possibly why they have made deep runs into the tournament in the recent past.  Height isn't everything obviously but when you have two teams with comparable talent and one team has a significant height advantage it makes it very difficult to win.  IC played Amherst last season Amherst started 5 guys over 6'4" or taller if I'm not mistaken.  They got killed on the boards 55-34 -- 99 times out of 100 you're going to lose with a rebounding disadvantage that large.

Unless you're Brockport State who started 5 guys 6'0" or smaller last season and were out-rebounded in just about every game they played, many of them by hefty margins, yet still managed to win a majority of those games. ;D

Yes, that was a team I wish I had the opportunity to watch.  They were the exception to the rule and they were a good team but not great -- finished 17-12.  Although they were a good team I doubt that is what they planned from the beginning of the season.  My guess is they made the most of what they had and salvaged a potentially poor season.  I highly doubt they recrutied players thinking "lets only recruit players around 6'0 and get outrebounded by 10+ every game."  They simply made the most of what they had and I commend the coaching staff for trying something unorthodox.
