Got it bear...and thanks for the "Good Luck".
Canisius definitly has the goods (and we are missing T. O. Jackson our leading rebounder). However McMurry and DePauw give us hope (with thier victories over D-1 schools)!

Bengals

Good luck against the Griffins, though they appear to have size and athleticism to spare.

The BENGALS fought hard and lost to Canisius 84-72. What was really impressive was that with 4:47 left in the game the BENGALS were down by only 5 (71-66).

BENGALS shot 10-22 from the 3 pt line (45.5%) and that kept them in the game. So many ways/chances that Buff State had to pull this 1 off. 2nd yr player Jake Simmons led the way with 20 pts (5/10 - 3ptrs.) and bested his big brother Tomas Vasquez Simmons - Canisius who had 12 pts. The surprise of the season so far has been Junior Chris Cartwright, a transfer from Tompkins Cortland C. C., who chipped in 25 (also 5/10 from beyond the arc). In a 3 minute stretch in the 2nd half (9:37 to the 6:45 mark) Cartwright hit 3  treys in a row.

BENGALS were clearly outmanned up front, especially with last seasons leading rebounder and 2nd leading scorer, T. O. Jackson, out of the game injured. Junior Ahmed Nagaya came off the bench and chipped in 10 pts and Senior Glenroy Carr added 7 pts and 2 blocks.

Trust me when I say that Buff State did the SUNYAC proud. And since no other SUNYAC team is paying a visit to a D-1 arena, this season, it is safe to say that the YAC's lone venturer into D-1 land did our conference proud.

I cant wait for the SUNYAC season to start 12/3! ;)

Potsdam dropped a close one 67-65 to Algonquin College from Canada. Here's a link to the write up:

Algonquin has been playing games since Sept. 24th and is now 18-1.

Good job by the Bengals against Canisius and while Jake outscored his brother Tomas 20 -12, Tomas had 7 pts in a row near the end of the game to keep Canisius in control.

Algonquin Thunder are also the number one ranked college team in Canada.

Potsdam had two senior starters out, plus their backup point guard. Algonquin was missing several players, as crossing the border isn't simple these days, particularly with complex last names.

Potsdam did indeed start two freshman, a sophomore, a junior, and a senior.  They played 9 guys. Algonquin played 7 & 1/2. (I think the Thunder had an asst coach suited up in case they got into foul trouble).

It was your typical exhibition game.  Algonquin had played 19 games, Potsdam had two scrimmages and two senior starters in street clothes on the bench.  Thunder are well coached and have some excellent athletic players.

The officiating was to put it politely "rusty", They called 26 fouls in the first half, and could have easily doubled that.
They obviously are working their way into game shape as well.  Terrible calls went in both directions & continued down the stretch.

Bears open on Monday vs. Utica Pioneers.  Women at 6, men at 8.  Still a work in progress.

D3hoops released their preseason All-American teams today. Only East region player to get mentioned is Dave Golembiowski from SUNYIT who was named to the 4th team. Golembiowski surpassed the 1500 point mark last season and will most likely be one of the few players to top the 2000 point total for his career.

To take a few minutes away from our Florida sun and fun, and prior to Cortaca kickoff ...........

Early long distance glimpse of Red Dragon roundball  doesn't exactly foster bigtime bragging. Roster shows no return of would-be seniors R. Evans and C. Milke. Also, no B. Manning among cast of 16. Sole senior is All-Conference D. Marshall from the backcourt, plus veteran soph guards J. Smith, J. Winters and J. LaMont. Count six frosh, five sophs. Long winter for Span? With much seen from Pburgh, Buffs, Ports,  rising Pdam, et al ...... we hope for the best ......

Hell of an observation there JDEX!. #3, 4 and 5 scorers from last year (Winters, Evans and Manning) all no shows for 2010-2011 plus the #7 and 8 scorers from last year (Lamont and Smith) AWOL also. I knew Spanbauer was tough but ...WOW!

BENGALS open SUNYAC play, at home, vs. Cortland on the 3rd of December. I'm gonna reserve comment on "Dusty" (started his SUNYAC career in a BENGALS uniform vs SUNY BINGHAMTON in 2008 then quit team after that game) and the Dragons till after December 3rd.

Enjoy the sun!!!

Bengalsrule,
Think you misread jdex's post. Jesse Winter, Jeff LaMont, and Jeremy Smith are all playing for Cortland this year. Losing probable starters Ron Evans and Brian Manning, along with 6'7" Chris Milke will definitely hurt the Red Dragons chances though. As jdex mentioned backcourt seems solid but Spanbauer will need immediate help from those big Freshman recruits to avoid a losing season in the YAC.

Thanx, Magic, for setting Bengalman straight. Yes, initial look doesn't appear good, but not all hands jumped ship. Geez, this crew could resemble last winter's Bport runts .......if only the ability and results could match that bunch!
Dragons open with Elmira, then in NYU tourney

I thought of the Brockport analogy as well when I was posting my reply early this morning. Something tells me that Spanbauer will work those big frosh into the rotation rather quickly though. He certainly brought a bunch of them in this year.
