Oswego 77 Buffalo State 71

Bengals stayed with the Lakers through a good portion of the 1st period but with Oswego up 21-19 and 7:49 remaining an 11-3 Laker run would push the lead to double digits and remain that way at the half, 37-27. Bengals would claw their way back into contention outscoring Oswego 12-2 to make the score 45-43 with 15:18 remaining. Lakers rebound by hitting 5 of their next 6 shots and re-establish a double digit lead, which reached 13 points, 62-49 with 9:13 left to play. Bengals with one last push got to within 4, but too little too late.

Live stats were screwed up tonight in games all over the place. Points scored by the Lakers as showing in the box score are different than totals that live stats had. Conor Monaghan actually had 24 points(9x13 fg, 2x3 3's, 4x8 ft) along with 7 rebounds. Chad Burridge only scored 15 points(6x10 fg, 0x1 3's, 3x4 ft) instead of the 21 I mentioned earlier and Ryan Sheridan had 12 points(4x7 fg, 1x2 3's, 3x5 ft). Hayden Ward had a solid game with 9 rebounds, 7 points, 2 assists and a block. Lakers shot the ball better then the Bengals especially from long distance as the Bengals only hit 3 of 15 from behind the arc while Oswego had 6 trifectas in 14 attempts. Lakers also won the rebound war, 42 to 34. Laker's hot shooting (30x57 fg, 6x14 3's,)  covered up the 17 turnovers they had to only 8 for Buff St.

Buffalo State was led by Justin Mitchell with 17 points(8x11 fg, 0x1 3's, 1x3 ft) and Norman Simmons with 15 (7x12 fg,1x1 3's).  Nico McLean had 11 (2x2 fg, 0x2 3's, 7x8 ft)  and Glenroy Carr just missed a double-double with 12 points(5x12 fg, 2x2 ft) and 9 rebounds.

Oswego wins their 6th game in a row to go to 9-1 in the SUNYAC and 13-3 overall . They remain one and a half games in front of Plattsburgh. They host Fredonia at 6 PM Saturday evening

Buffalo drops to 5-5 which ties them with Oneonta for 5th place. the Bengals are 10-6 on the year and travel to Cortland  for a 4 PM Saturday afternoon tip off.

Today's SUNYAC games

Buffalo State   @   Cortland State      4:00 PM
Buffalo State loss last night pretty much ended Bengals hopes for regular season crown. They can't afford a loss here if they still want to host a 1st round playoff game.  Buffalo State 76-68

Plattsburgh State  @    New Paltz State      4:00 PM
Plattsburgh tries to gain major separation between rest of the pack and turn the conference into a two horse race. Hawks split season series last year with Cards by winning in Plattsburgh but Cards have won in New Paltz for the past 5 years and are 10-1 in their last 11 games in this series. Hope it's 11-1 after today.  Cards win 85-78.

Potsdam State   @   Oneonta State      4:00 PM
Bears lost a tough one to the Hawks yesterday. Lose another tough one to the Red Dragons today. Oneonta 82-73.

Fredonia State  @    Oswego State      6:00 PM
Lakers  look to stay on top. Fredonia won't do much to prevent that. This one should be over early. Oswego 84-65

Plattsburgh 76 New Paltz 62

Plattsburgh up 55-51 with 4:22 left to play when Chris Ruiz hits a free throw, makes a layup off a New Paltz turnover and then gets fouled after another Hawk turnover, goes to the line to convert 2 more free throws. 5 straight points by Chris and the Cards go up 60-51 and cruise to a 76-62 final. Technical foul issue by the Hawks made the final score a bit larger than it probably should have been.

Chris Ruiz again leads the Cardinals and is the games high scorer with 19 points (6x18 fg,2x7 3's 5x6 ft) and with 8 rebounds comes up just short of his 2nd straight double-double. Carl Munnerlyn, the reigning SUNYAC Player of the Week kept the Cardinals in  the game early on with 15 points in the 1st half and ended up with 18 altogether(5x9 fg, 3x4 3's, 5x8 ft). Steve Thomas with only 2 points in the 1st period came on strong in the 2nd half and ended up with 15 points. He didn't connect well from the field hitting only 2 of 11 shots but did manage 11 of 14 from the charity stripe. Plattsburgh's big guy Erroll Daniyan only managed 9 points on 3x6 fg, and 3x8 ft, but grabbed 9 boards and had 6 blocked shots. Point guard Ketama Brooks contributed a solid all around game with
8 points 3 rebounds 2 assists and 2 steals.

Matt Devine had 17 points for the Hawks (6x12 fg, 1x1 3's,4x5 ft) and completed a double-double with 12 rebounds. Shereef Taylor also had double figs with 14 points (4x9fg, 6x8 ft) and 7 rebounds.

Oswego defeats Fredonia 48-33. Nice watching it online. Picture quality pretty good. Even better it's free. Went to Williams website to watch the big matchup between Middlebury and Williams this afternoon which also was on streaming video online. Had to pay $15. No thanks. Williams endowment fund must be getting low :D

Wow, I tuned into this game late and after pulling up the video feed, I went and pulled up the live stats on another window. When the action ended on the video, I checked the live stats saw the score, time left :00 and I thought it was the end of the half. I listened to the 3 announcers talking about the game but not really paying much attention as I was at work doing a bunch of stuff and was just waiting for the 2nd period to begin. Imagine my surprise when I heard the announcers do their wrap up and vanish. I went to live stats and thought they probably froze up or something  but when I pulled up the play by play for the 1st half, there was the halftime score, 17-13 Fredonia. Glad I missed  the 1st half. It must have been ugly. :o

Oswego draws even at 21-21 on S. Michele hoop with 14:12 left and his bucket at 14:02 puts Lakers in charge (if you can call it that). Revved up OState powers to 29-21 bulge at 11:23. Fredonia scoreless from 19:16 to 11:04! Oswego 4x24fg first half. H. Ward tops Lakers with 12 pts(5x8fg), 8 rebs, 4 stls. C. Burridge 7 pts,6 rebs in 28'. Freds A. Smith 19 pts(8x14fg), 8 rebs

Potsdam sees first half lead vanish but asserts itself late featuring A. Williams trey at 1:16 and R. Duquette go-ahead bucket at 0:29. Two E. Cross ft at 0:03 the climax. Oneonta fails to get off final shot. Duquette 20 pts(7x14fg), 6 rebs; C. Pierce 8 rebs. Dragon T. Talbot 25 pts(9x13fg), 7 TOs

with age came?

Finally a "little love" for the Lakers with a mention in the top 25 poll with a deuce for points. Only teams to show up from the 3 leagues I follow are Ithaca and the Lakers as Hobart with its loss to St Lawrence is now gone.

Plattsburgh State's Chris Ruiz is this week's SUNYAC Player of the Week. Congratulations Chris.
Chris is the 3rd different Cardinal(Carl Munnerlyn, twice and Errol Daniyan) and 4th time this season that a Plattsburgh State player has won the weekly honors

Here's the write up from the SUNYAC website. Hope they change the fact that he doesn't play for Buff State. :D

Chris Ruiz Senior guard for Plattsburgh State (Washington Heights, NY/Bronx St. Agnes) averaged 22.5 points and nine rebounds in a 2-0 week for the Cardinals. Friday vs. Oneonta, Ruiz shot 50% from the floor as he finished with game highs of 26 points and 10 rebounds. Saturday, all of Ruiz's 19 points came in the second half as Plattsburgh took a four-point halftime lead and blew it into a 14-point win over New Paltz.

There was a full schedule of games tonight in the SUNYAC but the New Paltz-Cortland game has been postponed and will be made up on next Tuesday Feb. 8th.

New Paltz State   @   Cortland State      Postponed

Fredonia State   @   Brockport State      8:00 PM
Brockport will have revenge in mind against the Blue Devils. Fredonia's victory 2 weeks ago was only their first over the Golden Eagles in their past 10 meetings. I don't think they can do it twice in a row Port will take this one 77-63.

Buffalo State   @   Geneseo State      8:00 PM
Bengals look for season sweep of Blue Knights. These 2 teams put  216 points on the board 2 weeks ago. A bit less tonight but Bengals will still win it 88 -81

Oneonta State   @   Oswego State      8:00 PM
Oneonta has won the last 3 times these teams have met. Lakers end the losing streak tonight as they take down the Red Dragons 75-66

Potsdam State   @   Plattsburgh State      8:00 PM
Anything goes when these 2 North Country rivals meet, evidenced by the fact that they are 7-7 in their last 14 meetings. This is their 1st meeting this year and the Cards will come out on top 82-70.
