I wish the Plattsburgh-Buffalo St. game was on Saturday. We are at a distinct disadvantage having to play the Bengals fresh off the bus. When you came North at least you got a night's sleep before you played the Cards. :P
I think the Card's could be in for a rough day.

Right off the bus Magicman???  I thought that the SUNYAC had the 5 hour rule in effect for all away games. If a school is more than 5 hours away thenn that team leaves the night before and spends 2 nights on the road. I know when the BENGALS play New Paltz and Then Oneonta they always leave on a Thursday and spend the night in Albany. Play Friday at New Paltz spend the night again and then Saturday mornin check out ...play Oneonta and then head back to Buffalo. Plattsburgh to Buffalo 387 miles.. Buffalo to New Paltz 354 miles.

Either Plattsburgh is really tight with a dollar or  they aren't following SUNYAC protocol.

Having said all that I will try not to shed too many tears for your cards :( if they are stuck riding and then playing. ;) I gotta believe that they leave on Thursday! Heck the woman would have to be at Buff State by 4:30 p.m. That means leaving Plattsburgh at 8 a.m.??? ???

Medaille may be in  a terrible league, but they are the #6 team in the East regional rankings this week.
The only bad loss they have is to Geneseo, early in the year when the Knights were better than they are now. They also have a win at PS-Behrend, and have played Laroche tough in their first meeting & they will end the season winning at least 10 of their last 11.

Also note that New England has 11 teams in their rankings, including Williams, Middlebury, and Western Connecticut that all sit just a few miles from the NY Border.

Medaille ranked 6th in the EAST REGION????  >:(??? >:( ??? >:( ???  >:(???

This team has a Massey rating of 194. Thier strength of schedule played (if i am reading Massey correctly) is 377 out of 411? The bottom 2 teams in the AMCC conference, Franciscan and Penn-state Altoona have 7 total wins, and those are all conference wins. Their non-conference record is 0-12. The SUNYAC bottom 2, Fredonia and Geneseo have a combined non-conference record of 9-4!!!!!!

The 6th place team in the AMCC - DYouville has 6 wins, (all conference wins) and a non conference record of 0-7.  And D'Youville is in a PLAYOFF Position (Tied for 6th).  Add that up and a 3rd of the confernce has a combined non-conference record of 0-19. By comparison, the SUNYAC teams tied for 6th Oneonta and New Paltz have a non-conference record of 5-8.  ::)

I'm just gonna have to wait for Magicman to help me figure this out! :(

Good news for Magicmans  Cards. The Cards will arrive in Buffalo Thursday Night. They are actually scheduled for a shoot around Friday at Noon in the Sports arena.

Now if I could just convince Ruis and Munnerlyn to visit the Falls (it soooo beautiful this time of year ;D ) around...7:45 p.m. ..............Friday night.  ;)

Bengalsrule,
Glad to hear that. I didn't know about the 5 hour rule you mentioned earlier. I was just thinking back to the trip you made up to the North Country a couple of weeks ago and remember that you were posting on Friday afternoon as you left the restaurant in Watertown on your way to Potsdam. You did ride with the team didn't you?

Chris and Carl are planning to visit the Falls. Just a little earlier than you'd like. They want to compare the rush they'll get from seeing the great Niagara River with it's voluminous waterfalls, to the thrill it will be as they bury trifecta after trifecta against the Bengals later in the day. ;) 8-)

Copy of a post I put on the Posters' Poll Board.

"Which team has the longest current winning streak in the country, (tied with WPI and Salem State with 13 in a row) has a 20-3 record, and the 3 losses are by a total of of 7 points. Oh, one more thing, they're not in the top 25 and haven't been all year long. But they have beaten 2 teams that have been ranked a total of 3 times."

The Lakers are also 1 of 3 teams that are ranked #1 in their region and are not in the Top 25. The others are Ramapo ranked #1 in the Atlantic region (although they have been ranked for most of the year but just dropped out) and La Roche ranked #1 in the Middle Atlantic region.

Unfortunately for Oswego even if they win out this week, there are so many teams receiving more votes than they are getting that I don't think they will crack the top 25 next week either. Six or seven teams would have to stumble badly in order for the Lakers to move into the poll.

Not to mention they have 4 quality post players, and a fine supporting cast.  Plattsburgh and Buff State will not be able to run the hi-low against this team.

Amazing what one lousy one point loss to Oneonta can do to a national ranking.

Of course, unless my Bears for some reason win out this weekend, they will get an all-expense paid trip to Qswego on Tuesday!!!!  Can't wait to see what that weather forecast looks like.

Ooowwwee Magicman. I may have to sneak this up on the bulletin board. "bury trifecta after trifecta".

My northcountry trip was....Friday leave Buffalo at 12:30...travel 3 1/2 hours to Watertown where we stopped at a Lovely Old Country buffet....eat for an hour ....continue on the way to Potsdam...arrive at Potsdam around 6:20...search for thebear....play Potsdam at 8 p.m. (after I unsuccessfully searched hi and low for thebear :-\)...beat the BEARS...ride to the Hampton Inn in Plattsburgh.....check in the hotel around 12:30 a.m. ....wake up at 11 a.m. the next mornin...head to Plattsburgh at 1:45p.m.....MEET THE MAGICMAN ;)...and then watch my BENGALS get beat by your Cards. Not the most leisurely of trips :( . Plus your Cards/fans weren't very hospitable.  Hopefully the Arena will be very hostile!

Too bad Ruis and Munnerlyn wont take me up on my offer. My tour would beat anything that Curle could have planned for them ;)

Bengalsrule,
That's what I don't understand. Your trip from Buffalo to Potsdam was over 5 hours. Why didn't you leave on Thursday and spend 2 nights on the road. Buffalo State must be really tight with a buck. ??? What's the story?

Bengalsrule,
Don't be knocking Medaille. They could make the tournament, your Bengals could make the tournament. You might have to play them. They may beat you!! ;D

Just look at last year. Medaille made the tournament and was in a pod at Plattsburgh along with SUNYIT, Nazareth and Plattsburgh St. Smart money says Naz beats Medaille, and Plattsburgh St. beats SUNYIT. Both the favorites lost and Medaille ended up playing SUNYIT for the right to advance to the sweet sixteen. Now I don't think Medaille is as strong a team this year as they were last year but they are a solid team and I believe they could be competetive in the SUNYAC this year.  Again don't be hung up on Massey. Yes the conference they play in is weak but that doesn't mean they can't play and hold their own against teams from stronger leagues. The regional rankings place a lot of emphasis on wins and losses. That's why they are ranked where they are. But I don't think they'll get a Pool C bid so it won't really matter. I don't think any of the SUNYAC teams will get a Pool C bid either, unless Oswego State gets upset in the tournament. I said last weekend that the only way 2 SUNYAC teams get in is if Oswego gets upset next weekend. I'm hoping that happens and you know who I hope does the upsetting. ;D

Thanks magicman. I feel much better now after  reading this.

(tongue in cheek) ....In my wildest dreams I never thought that you would be pulling for the BENGALS to upset Oswego in the playoffs ;D. I'm honored and hopefully the BENGALS will do there very best to be worthy of your hopes/desires!!!

Serioulsy..I gotta believe, that SUNYAC finalist with a 13-5 conference record (the same conference record that Oneonta had last year) and a 20-6 overall record ( or even 12-6 conf/19-7 overall) gets a LEAST a look for a Pool C bid if, Oswego wins (and thats a BIG IF), and if all the other favorites in E8 and LL finish first! And I definitly like the SUNYAC runner-up chances better than the AMCC runner ups chances.

Did I mention, Magicman, that I live less than 3/4 of a mile from the Medaille gymnasium? I have watched this team play at least 3 times. Their 6 point loss at (probable) SUNYAC playoff spectator- Geneseo came as no shock to those of us in the Buffalo area who are familiar with Medailles program. We, Buffalo State, have been trying to get a game with them for the past  4 years and have been unsuccessful ( the schools are 1.5 miles apart). A game that should be a natural ( like the annual Plattsburgh vs. Clarkson/St. Lawrence games, and you guys have to travel 2 hours to play those annual north country rivalries), will never happen because (I believe) the Mavericks could be exposed.

I dont mean to rag on Medaille (apologies to any Maverick supporters out there). My problem is that the more I have learned, from you and others, about how these system(s) work... the more I became encouraged about the fact a SUNYAC conference (#34 ranked conference - MASSEY) 2nd place team, be it Plattsburgh/ Buff State or whomever, would/should never be ranked behind a 3rd place team from the AMCC (#50 ranked conference - MASSEY).   Coupled with the fact that today, 2/17/2011, BUFFALO STATE is ranked #113 - Massey and Medaille #191 - Massey??? ??? What am I missing???

I do understand, from what you have said, that  the regionals rankings are based solely on record. But what sense does that make??? Thats like Div 1 - Long Island University being tied in the  AP polls  with Purdue (#11 - AP Poll) or Georgetown (#9-AP) or Florida (#14-AP) because they all have identical 20-5 records! :-\ ???

Hopefully conference, strength of schedule etc. etc. factor in some where. Heck from all that I have read our victory over ELMS (Northeast #8) in Worcester Mass, counts for nothing?!

Well I dont want to take much more space up right now! I have go go out to the Thruway and switch the "Buffalo Exit"  signs with the "Erie Pa" exit signs before 4 p.m.. And then go over the border to Canada and see if I can get some LEGALLY working girls to help a fella out with distracting some fellas from the North country tommorrow (around say 6:00 p.m. or so) ;).

  GO BENGALS!!!! :)

Derek Hahn senior center from Oneonta was the SUNYAC Player of the Week for the week ending 2-13. Derek had back to back double-doubles as Oneonta was unbeaten last week with wins over Geneseo and Brockport. He had 11 pts and 12 rebounds against Geneseo as they won 62-60 on Friday. He was just warming up for Saturday's huge effort as he scored 23 pts and a career high 20 rebounds against Brockport as the Red Dragons won 76-68. It was his 11th double-double of the season and the 23 points also put him over the 1000 points mark for his collegiate career.

Last week (week ending 2-5-11) Gerald Williams, junior guard, from Brockport State was not only the SUNYAC Player of the Week he was named to the D3Hoops Team of the Week. Here's the D3 write up:

Gerald Williams
Williams averaged 25.3 points per game while making 14 of 20 from 3-point range, and hitting 60 percent of his shots from the field during a 3-0 week. Williams scored a career-high 30 points on 9-of-12 shooting, including making five of his six 3-pointers during Friday's win over Plattsburgh State. Against Potsdam State, Williams scored seven of his game-high 26 points during an opening 19-0 run. Williams has surpassed 20 points in eight of his last 10 games.
