Oswego up by 3 at the break surrenders the lead 2 minutes into the 2nd half. Still down 2 at 36-34, the Lakers get an old fashioned 3 point play by Chris Gilke, a bucket by Chad Burridge, and a long range bomb by Jose Uribe to quickly take a 6 point lead. The Golden Eagles manage to stay with a possession or two for the next 7 minutes or so but back to back 3 pointers by Uribe at the 8:23 and 7:27 marks extended the lead to 9 points and a basket by Hayden Ward made it a double digit lead, 54-43. Brockport basket cut it to 9 but Ward buried a 3 and the Eagles never got it below 10 until 2 fouls shots at the end of the game cut it to the 69-61 final margin.

Oswego was once again led by Chad Burridge with 15 points and 8 rebounds. Uribe also had double figures with 11 points. Oswego had balanced scoring as Hayden Ward and Sean Michele both finished with 9 points. Ward added 6 rebounds and Michele had 5 assists.

Brockport was led by John Ivy with 16 points and 7 rebounds. Kyheem Green also had16 points and Gerald Williams chipped in with 10.

Pretty sure the Player of the Year honors for the SUNYAC is a one horse race and that horse of course is young Mr. Burridge. I say young because he's only a junior and next year will be back to wreak further havoc upon the SUNYAC.

And how they allowed that basket in the final 6 seconds to result in a layup is something I'm waiting for my Buffalo guy to report on.

"Buffalo guy Report" -ing. How they allowed that basket in the final 6 seconds???  In 3 words...Outran the opponent. Thats how Justin Mitchell got to the basket. Missed free throw by Thomas, N. Simmons rebounds takes 2-3 dribbles, passes to Mitchell, who runs past Ruiz and over Daniyan for the soft 1 off the glass. Ruiz launchs 1 from inside halfcourt and for a brief moment, memories of 09-10 at Plattsburgh dash through everyones memory. In fact....Magicman.. as the ball traveled from Ruiz towards the basket.. It was so quiet you could have heard a Mosquito sneeze. The ball actually hit backboard and then rim...you know the rest.

BENGALS dressed only 11 players and finished the game with 9!

Great win, Gutsy performance, especially by Mitchell who got an elbow in the mouth from Poneesse and lost a tooth. Got a football mouthpiece from the trainer (who cut off the facemask strap courtside) and then helps finish Cards off!

Potsdam in 14 hours and 28 minutes. (who I predict we will see again next Tuesday).

GO BENGALS ;)

Bengalsrule,
I'm a little confused by what you're reporting. Ruiz took a shot in overtime with 7 or 8 seconds left that missed and was rebounded by Daniyan who put it back in for the basket and an 80-79 Plattsburgh lead. What Thomas free throw are you talking about in overtime? I thought Buffalo State inbounded the ball after Daniyan's basket and somehow went the length of the court for a layup that gave them the win. Please explain.

Bengalsrule

Apologies magicman...(thats why 1 should never post at 1:30 am after 3 hours of celebrating). The missed free throw took place in regulation and Ant Hamer missed the game winner. Just begin my replay of Mitchells winner by substituting the word "inbound" instead of "rebound" to Norm Simmons and leave the rest the same and you have the your answer.

BTW do you know how to text? I'm dying to find someone who would be keeping track of the Cortland/b port game. Cant do that and watch the BENGALS but with us having SENIOR DAY ( for lone senior Glenroy Carr) and Cortland has no seniors...I imagine thier game would be over /ahead of ours by 15 mins or so. We really do it up for our seniors! ;)..I feel that Corland will win and Potsdam will lose setting up a Buff State/New Paltz quarter! I also believe that the Cards will beat the Blue Devils settin up Cortland/Plattsburgh, Oneonta/B port and Oswego/Potsdam quarters!!

Hmmm who knows? Oswego beat potsdam the first time by 13..2nd time by 6.....could Potsdam pull off the 1 point upset? ???

Halftime scores:

Oswego 31 Geneseo 19

Buffalo St. 46  Potsdam 36

Cortland 34  Brockport 29
Cortland opened up a 17-4 lead over the Eagles but Port came back to get within 1 at 21-20. Cortland back on top 34-26 but a 3 pointer at the buzzer by Brockport's Stephen Sisson narrows it to a 5 point lead.

Plattsburgh leads Fredonia 44-27 at the half.

Cardinals Carl Munnerlyn hits his first 5 shots of the game, all 3 pointers. He ends up going 7x9 from the field and 6 of 8 from long distance. He has 20 points at the break. Chris Ruiz also with double figures in the 1st half as he has 12 points.

Final score Oswego 54 Geneseo 50.

This was a much closer game than Coach Stockwell probably wanted to see especially after the Lakers opened up a double digit lead 7 minutes into the game. The lead grew to as much as 14 points before a Geneseo basket cut it to 12 at the break. Geneseo came out of the locker room  with a purpose and outscored the Lakers 14-2 over the first 5 plus minutes of the 2nd period to knot the score at 33. The Blue Knights were led by Mike Hoy, who scored 11 of those points on 2 long distance jumpers a layup and 3 free throws. From that point on there were 3 lead changes and 4 ties before the Lakers forged a 52-46 lead with 2:41 left in the game. Shortly thereafter a Chad Burridge dunk made it 54-46 but Geneseo got back to back layups from Abe Miller to close within 4 with 57 seconds remaining. After an Oswego timeout, the Lakers turned the ball over but Geneseo misfired on a three with 18 seconds left, got the rebound and missed again with 8 seconds left. Lakers' Ryan Sheridan is fouled but misses both free throws that were really meaningless as there was only 3 seconds on the clock.
Lakers as usual led by Chad Burridge with 17 points (7x13 fg, 1x4 3's, 2x4 ft), and 5 rebounds. Hayden Ward added 13 points (3x9 fg, 3x4 3's, 4x4 ft) and 5 rebounds as well.
Mike Hoy was the only Geneseo player in double figures as he garnered the games' scoring honors with 23 points (7x14 fg, 3x6 3's, 6x7 ft) and 5 boards. Abe Miller had 7 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 blocked shots. Lamont Stokes was the high rebounder in the games as he had 10 boards. Both teams struggled with their shooting as evidenced by the score. Oswego shot 35 % from the field, 18 of 52 and only 26% from long distance, 6 of 23. Blue Knights weren't much better shooting 38% from the field, 17x45, and 27% from behind the line, 4x15. Foul shooting was even as Oswego went 12 for 18 and Geneseo went 12 for 17.
Geneseo had a big margin in rebounds as they had 39 to the Lakers 26, but the Blue Knights had more than double the turnovers as they committed 17 to Oswego's 7.

Final score Plattsburgh 78 Fredonia 57.

Plattsburgh never trailed in this game as they grabbed an early lead and were up by double figures with 11:44 to play in the first half. Both Carl Munnerlyn and Chris Ruiz were on fire and between them had 8 three pointers at the half. Up by 17 at halftime the Cards increased their lead to as much as 26 as this game was never close. Cardinal reserves saw plenty of action as Coach Curle went to his bench often.
Chris Ruiz led the Cardinals and was the game's high scorer with 22 points (9x15 fg, 2x4 3's, 2x2 ft). Carl Munnerlyn was close behind as he tallied 21 points (7x10 fg, 6x9 3's, 1x2 ft) with 20 of those coming in the 1st half.
Errol Daniyan added 11 points (3x5 fg, 5x7 ft) and 8 rebounds. Josh Bruno came off the bench to score 9 points.
Kevin Mitchell was the only Fredonia player to score in double digits as he had 15 points (6x11 fg, 1x2 3's, 2x2 ft) and 4 steals. Rebounds were pretty even with the Cards grabbing 36 to Fredonia's 35,and both teams had 16 turnovers. Plattsburgh shot 54% from the field and 47% from long distance.

Cardinals will now host New Paltz on Tuesday in the 1st round of the playoffs.

I'm guessing the quarterfinals will look like this on Tuesday:

#8 Potsdam @ #1 Oswego

#7 Cortland @ # 2 Buffalo St.

#6 New Paltz @ #3 Plattsburgh

#5 Oneonta  @ #4 Brockport

A Cortland or Potsdam win tomorrow would change things and so would a Plattsburgh loss with a Brockport win.

My quarterfinal prediction from yesterday held up and those will, in fact, be the Tuesday night matchups.

Congratulations to the Oswego Lakers for winning the conference regular season crown with a 17-1 record. The only blemish on their SUNYAC schedule was a 2 point double overtime loss to Oneonta. Mr. Burridge and company have put together an outstanding year and hopefully can continue to make some noise in the postseason. I'll be rooting for you.

Hope the Lakers and their backers won't mind if I root against them in the playoffs though, because Oswego already has a ticket to dance. They are a lock to get a Pool C at large bid. My Alma Mater, Potsdam, would consider the year a lot more successful if they could somehow upset Oswego on Tuesday. That would perhaps help out my hometown Plattsburgh Cardinals get their ticket to go dancing and the YAC would have twice as much to cheer for.

Buffalo State Bengals on a roll lately as they end the regular season with 8 straight wins. They have to watch out for a young Cortland team that can shoot lights out. I know the Cardinals are probably glad they don't have to face Red Dragons in the 1st round after the display they put on last week in Memorial Hall. Think my friend from Buffalo isn't crazy about the prospect of Cortland coming to town on Tuesday either. I never got so many phone calls in so short a time span in my life as I did this afternoon concerning the score of the Brockport-Cortland game. :D

Oswego facing the 8th ranked Bears seems like a sure thing. But then 9th place Geneseo almost handled the Lakers today in Max Ziel Gym. And 2 weeks ago Coooooooooobleskill (I had trouble spitting that one out) almost beat Oswego. With a lot more on the line perhaps the Lakers will resemble the team that took care of business night in and night out.

Four games. Eight teams. Dreams of the Big Dance to fire everyone up. All we need to do is to think back to the carnage of 2 years ago when 3 of the bottom 4 seeds won quarterfinal games. And 8th seeded Brockport beat 5th seeded Fredonia for the Tournament Championship and the automatic bid.

I will say that in my 4 plus years around this program I have never seen the BENGALS clicking on as many cylinders as I see them now. Nor have I seen them this confidant! In the past they would have folded in some of the games that they won this year. 5 Overtime games (I gotta believe that that is a SUNYAC high) and 4 of them wins.

Heck it be nice if just the top 4 teams went.... then the BENGALS ( and the Cards) would already be 1 game away from the finals! ;).

I like the BENGALS chances Tuesday vs. Cortland. We know Cortland well as they do us ( 1 of Cortlands assistants was an assistant coach at Buff State a few years ago). I truly believe that the BENGALS have high hopes for these playoffs! I wish them well! ;)
