Hey Bengals -

Your Bengals couldn't have a better draw.  Wouldn't be surprised if my old friend Zola will be there as well, best ref baiter of all time.

Middlebury will be pissed, but actually payback to the NESCAC when Potsdam, undefeated SJF and Rochester had to trek to Amherst (on break).  Only for Yellowjackets to beat the hosts on the first night.

I imagine the Bengal faithful will be out in force, not to mention Jake Simmons' entire posse.  Democrat & Chronicle may actually be rooting for the Bengals from a human interest perspective.  School of the  Arts Alumni Association will be out in force.  Destiny is smiling on the Bengals.

Pleased to see that senior Glenroy Carr has come up huge for the Bengals during the postseason.  Just makes one more weapon you have to account for.  I see that he has dominated the glass in the two games so far.

If my Bears aren't in it, I root for the Bengals, my dad was a '50 grad from BSTC, my uncle was a Timon grad and my Mom's a South Buffalo/Blasdell native.  Mother in Law was a U of R alum :-( -  BSC Hof'r's Bill Kozlowski & Len Piorkowski were childhood friends.

Make Sure you partake of a garbage plate at Nick Tahou's while you're in the flower city. A once in a lifetime experience, but still doesn't match a beef on weck with lots of juice.

Best of Luck to the Bengals.  Do the 'yac proud.

thebear..at least 2 of the coaches have just read your posts. Neither is a d3 member so they asked me to give you a hearty thanks for the well-wishes.

I personally may take you up on the "garbage plate at Nick Tahou's" Our top assistant got sick (stomach) right before the Johnson and Wales game so a "garbage plate meal" might not sit too well with the team/coaches. I on
the other hand will try anything once :).

You are right on about Glen"Roy" who has really stepped up the past 2 weeks. As our opponents get bigger he is gonna have to continue to do better!

Justin is also a Timon grad so hopefully there is some goooood Karma coming our way from St. Jude.

As far as Simmons support in Rochester...Norman Simmons (Rochester East) will probably have 3 times the supporters as Jake when the game tips-off Friday. And I am sooo glad that  I know Normans friend and fans. They LOVE Norman and his BENGALS. From his 7th grade teacher who has driven to Oswego and Ramapo with her husband and 3 children, to his highschool friend Craig (who has traveled the same).

We like our chances to continue advancing. Fridays game was nerve wrackin, especially with Justin getting in early foul trouble. Fortunatly the jitters were gone by Sat. and to be honest the game againest Johnson & Wales was really anticlimatic. It probably helped that they, J & W, had to play an overtime game Friday which didnt end until after 10 p.m. They didnt even attend the shoot around Sat.

My hope is that any all "YAC supporters who can make it to U of R (less than 40 min ride from Geneseo and Brockport) COME and support US/THE 'YAC Friday.

I'll never forget when Brockport made it to the elite 8 vs. Wooster. A number of us rode down to St. John Fisher for the Friday contest vs. St. John Fisher (which Brockport won). We then got a hotel room to stay in Rochester and get ready for their Elite 8 match againest Wooster. And B-Port ate the BENGALS lunch that year! It was SUNYAC against all else and thats all we knew or cared about!

We hope to continue to make the YAC Proud! ;)

GO BENGALS!!!!

I have fond memories too.

Was at the Final Four in '85 when My Bears lost a one point game to North Park, and then went on to win next 60 in a row.  Was also at Amherst in '05, when Bears were within two of eventual runnerup Rochester with 3:00 to play, then couldn't get a stop.

Think Bengals got a great draw, short trip, huge hometown (East & SOA) crowd, esp in First Game.  460 mile bus trip for SM Md. a pain, at best, although methinks St. Mary's will foot the bill for Southwest airlines ($330/person) from BWI to BUF then bus to ROC, regardless of what NCAA pays for.

Buff State has 5 starters you have to contend with, no weak links, any starter can go off for 20+ if you overlook them.

Rochester will have a PO'd opponent in Middlebury, though, I think Magic and Coach Curle will have insight in what it takes to best them if they prevail, as Cards fought them to a close outcome.

Yellowjackets lost to both Nazareth & Hobart, neither team has the 5 player talent level of the Bengals.

P.S. Mr. Runge should get lots of reps in Practice this week, Rochester. Middlebury & St. Marys all have a lot of size.  Having that wide body leaning on them would create some traffic in the paint & take some pressure off Justin Mitchell.  Einstein is right, e=mc2, and Mr. Runge has lots of M.

Rooting for your Buffalo Tigers to move to Salem...Very doable.  Just work on Mitchell to play solid D without fouling, and your perimeter players to keep the defense off balance, quick passes between your three quality perimeter players, flash into the posts when it's open, The let Carr be Mr. Windex like he's been doing.  Even best teams shoot less than 40% from 3.  Tougher when you have the agressive perimeter players like Buff State

Don't know if I can come to ROC, pondering

Did I die and go to heaven??  Haven't been on the board until late tonight when a friend gave me the d3 bracket and it said Rochester gets "the pod"!!  I just assumed that Middlebury would host!!!  I guess the only team that may be more "ticked off" is Whitworth who travels to Wooster "in the bracket of death"!! :D  My pool bracket still has 12 out of 16 teams but I am hoping that Buff St blows it apart this weekend!!!!  Have to see if I can get parole from the wife and head on down the highway for a "garbage plate" and a slice of heaven if the bengals can "make it happen"!!! ;)

Well, that begs the question...how did Buff manage to lose to Naz then?  I know U of R lost to them by 2 in the Wendy's Championship game after beating them 11 days previously.  They also lost to Hobart after beating them a week before.

Well, that begs the question...how did Buff manage to lose to Naz then?

Naz 44 free throw attempts (34 of 44)...BENGALS 19 free throw attempts (12 of 19).
Add the fact ( and this was a first for me) that 1 of the referees insisted that fans/realtives of Norman Simmons (who were sitting behind the BENGALS bench) sit down late in the first half.

And then.....

To add insult to injury while the BENGALS were standing during a time out the same  referee threatened 1 of the Buff State assistant coaches (who just had complained about a call that that particular ref had made) and told him to sit down, during a time out (when the coaches stand). When the assistant coach told the referee that it was a time out he then gave him a tech (see "team" under technicals for Buffalo State-the only 1 of the season and 5 year tenure of Coach Ansari).

The bottom line is that Naz scored 9 more points than the BENGALS did. But be assured that the BENGALS coaching staff know that 2 of those officials, that worked that NAZ game, will NEVER be assigned to a BUFFALO STATE game EVER!

I dont want to spend anymore time talking about...
A- a team that is no longer playing and
B- trying to butt heads with a U of R supporter. My hope is that Friday night both Western New York teams win and guarantee that our region will be represented in Salem VA for the 1 st time since ???? (see my post under - Multi regions - UAA 1:19 p.m.  which ended with "Good Luck Friday vs. Middlebury") ;)

Personally I am looking for reasons to unite supporters of U of R and Buff State. At least until Friday night is over. And trust me if we lose Friday and U of R wins I will be there Saturday cheering for them.  :)

And vice versa.  My son may have played for U of R but his grandparents, mother, sister and I are all SUNY grads.  I think the last time the region was represented at the Final Four was 2005 when Rochester lost the title game.

Seriously considering trying to alter plans and get to the 5:30 game!  Would absolutely love to see Buff St play to the Elite sweet 8 and potentially to Salem! :D  So many connections to Buff St would make it really enjoyable.  The magicman is bummed - all stuck up there in his snow knowing that Middlebury is just a doable trip across the border!  Thank heaven the NCAA doesn't like to pay for flights!! ;D

Go ahead rub it in. :( My loss however was the Bengals gain. The Buffalo State supporters should outnumber the St. Mary's supporters by at least 4 to 1. And if the University of Rochester faithful support their fellow western New Yorkers it'll be a home game for the Bengals. ;D

Trust me magicman. I wish you could make it. :D  Looks like with age and thebear aren't coming so I have 2 extra tickets. U of R support could really help. It's rumored that there's gonna be a big story on Jake and Norman Simmons in the Rochester paper either Thursday or Friday. With the Simmons boys, the BENGALS actually have more Rochester natives on their team (2) than U of R ( 1 - Labanowski)

Don't rule me out just yet.....believe me I 'm trying to figure this out!! ;)  I would hate to see a ticket go to waste!!! ;D
