Oswego doing exactlly what is needed and opens the half with a 10-2 run to cut the lead to 2 at 35-33.

Hayden Ward must have heard what I said about stepping it up. He scores 7 of those 10 Laker points. ;D 8-)

magicman

Potsdam down 28-20 at the break. They need to do what the Lakers have just done to start the 2nd half.

magicman

Hayden Ward just nails his 2nd three of the half to pull the Lakers within 1 at 37-36.

magicman

Lakers down 4 at 42-38 with 12 minutes to go. Chris Gilkes just picked up his 4th foul. Ward has 10 points in this half and leads the Lakers with a total of 12.

magicman

Lakers still in it only down 51-46 with 7:20 to go. They've been within 3-5 points for the past 5 minutes but can't get over the hump. Burridge struggling from the field only 4x15. He just hits 1 of 2 from the line to make it a 4 point deficit. Michele hits a three and it's now 51-50 with 5 and a half to go. Ward Steals the ball and the Lakers can take the lead. Ward is fouled and goes to the line for the lead. He makes the 1st one and misses the 2nd but the game is tied at 51 with 5 minutes to go. C'mon Lakers!!!

magicman

Lakers down 55-53, with the ball. Gilkes drives the baseline throws an up and under that goes in but the zebra calls an offensive foul and Gilkes fouls out. Looked like a block to me. Lakers rebound a Bronco miss and go for the tie with 3:19 to go.

magicman

Lakers down 1 after Gebhardt makes 1 of 2 free throws. Lakers have an opportunity to take the lead but Burridge misses a contested layup. 55-54 with 1:08 to go. Broncos come down and miss a three point attempt and Monaghan grabs the rebound and Lakers call a time out. 55 ticks left and we have the ball and a chance for the lead.

magicman

Lakers come out of the time out and Michele misses a three. Ward commits a foul and the Broncos make them both for a 3 point lead. lakers come down with 34 seconds left and Michele is called for traveling. Lakers foul after a time out and Broncos go to the line and make them both. Down by 5 at 59-54 Lakers fail to get a shot off and the ball goes out of bounds. Still Lakers balll but only 11 seconds left. Time out.

magicman

Lakers inbound the ball and Burridge quickly fires up a three. Shot is no good and the Broncos win 59-54. Great effort by our guys and I believe it was the closest a D3 team came to winning against a D-I all year. Certainly nothing to be ashamed of. Key moment was the charging foul called on Gilkes on his made basket that was waved off with 3:44 to go. We were down 2 at the time and his bucket would have tied the game and a free throw would have given the Lakers the lead. Changed the complexion of the game for sure.

Brockport (defeats St. Lawrence 3-4) and New Paltz (defeats St. Johns Fisher 7-4) both win. Potsdam loses by 4  (to Alvernia 7-3) and Oswego loses a close 1 to D-1. Magicman...What overall grade would you give the Yac for todays 4 performances ???

Texas Pan American 59 Oswego 54

Lakers may have lost but they were winners as far as I'm concerned. A couple of calls here and there and a few lucky bounces and it sure could have been a different story. Great 2nd half by Hayden Ward to carry the Lakers when Chad was struggling to get his shots to fall.  Ward with 18 points to lead all scorers. He ended up 5x10 fg, 3x5 3's, 5x8 ft  with 8 rebounds and 3 steals. Conor Monaghan had 12 points (5x9 fg, 2x5 ft) while Burridge just missed a double double with 9 pts and 10 boards. Sean Michele added 6 pts, 8, assists, 3 steals and 2 rebounds. These 4 guys combined to play 146 minutes out of possible 160. I 'm not 100% positive but I think it was the best effort a D3 team had against a D-I team in regulation play all year. So don't get down guys. Enjoy the sunny Texas weather for a couple of days. It's 4 degrees and dropping here in sunny Plattsburgh. :o

Lakers ended up shooting 19x53 fg, (35.8%), 7x23 3's (30.4%), 9x14 ft (64.3%). They got hurt on the boards 38-29 and had 13 turnovers to 14 for the Broncos. They drop to 9-2 for the year and are back in action for the rare Monday night game on January 9th as they travel to Brooklyn to take on Medgar Evers. Their next conference game is on Friday Jan 13th when they host New Paltz.

I think we did pretty good today. 2 wins on the other team's home court and both teams will be in their respective league's tournament at the end of regulation play. (I think.) I just posted my feeling about the Oswego game and Potsdam only losing by 4 to Alvernia wasn't a bad effort. Based upon my expectations, because I really thought we'd lose all 4 games, (I picked Oswego because I didn't want to pick Texas and root for my prediction) and (I picked SLU because I thought Green was still out, I would have went with Port if I knew he was back)  I would give us a solid B+ for a grade. ;)

Bears had an abysmal first half, scoring only 20.  Mounted a furious comeback in the last two minutes, but Alvernia was money from the FT line.

Tonite they face host DeSales, licking their wounds from losing to NYC's Berkeley (USCAA-2).

Eddy ratings have this as a 5 pt game.

Perhaps the Bears can carry their momentum from the last five minutes of the Alvernia game into the consy.  Game is winnable - teams are very close in both Massey and Eddy rankings.  Teams match up well in size, Pierce & Duquette may give the Bears the edge in the paint, while DeSales is guard oriented with several long range shooters.

6 PM tip.
