I am not sure how it can be. D-III teams can't play D-I's in exhibitions after Nov. 15 as far as I'm aware.

I think Buff State has a problem.

They have 26 US games listed on their schedule beginning on 11/15.

Link to D-III manual

http://www.ncaapublications.com/productdownloads/D312.pdf

Reading NCAA Bylaw 17.3.3(d) & Bylaw 17.3.5.1, It looks like that once the "playing season" starts on 11/15, Division III teams can only play 25 contests during their regular season.

All of the games Buff State has left are conference games.

Betcha a lot of teams will volunteer not to play the Bengals.

Only one game on tap for today.

Oneonta State at #8 Franklin & Marshall. 5 PM

Oneonta visits Lancaster PA. for the second time in 7 weeks to take on the undefeated (11-0) and 8th ranked Diplomats. This game was just scheduled as F&M (sounds suspiciously like S&M  :D and that's what Oneonta must like, if they want to play these guys twice in 2 months) needed a 25th game (wanted more fodder?). Red Dragons lost the first time 64-46. In all fairness to Oneonta they were still in the game (only down by 7) through the early stages of the 2nd half. A 15-5 run built the lead to 49-32 and basically put the Red Dragons away. Posted line on today's game has the Diplomats favored by 20 pts. F&M coming off a double digit home win over Hobart on Tuesday night. Oneonta (1-9) coming off a road loss at Greensboro, NC 82-75, on New Year's Day. Diplomats inside-outside tandem of All American guard Georgio Milligan (19.8 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 4.5 asists pg, 2.1 steals pg, and 1.1blocks pg) and 6'7" forward Hayk Gyokchyan lead a team with a MOV that's averaging 13.4 per game. I think this game will be a replay of their first contest. Oneonta will hang around for a while before the Diplomat's talent proves to be too much. Dragons go down 72-54.

Side note regarding the oddsmakers: Odds on tonight's game are from augie_superfan (Eddy ratings). Massey ratings doesn't have this game listed. I noticed last week that a number of the SUNYAC games weren't listed. They were tournament games for Buff State, and Plattsburgh State. I sent Ken Massey an email asking if their omission was an error and he responded, (within 5 minutes I might add) that unless the games were on the schedule he gets from the NCAA at the start of the season there aren't in his program and therefore won't be on his prediction pages. Since the Oneonta game tonight was a late addition, only scheduled 2 weeks ago, there is no line from Massey.

Oneonta loses to F&M 65-46.
Red Dragons down by 12 at the break, fall further behind early in the 2nd period. Diplomats up by 19 at the 17:29 mark and stretch it to 51-27 with 9:33 to play. F&M coach empties the bench early as they coast to the 19 point win.

Only Dragon in double figs was Nick Sarchioto with 10 pts. Lucas Slivinsky added 9 pts. Oneonta only 16x50 from the field, 2x7 3's and 12x17 ft. They were beat on the boards 39-34 and had 20 TO's to 14 for F&M. 12 players broke into the scoring column for the Diplomats led by their AA Georgio Milligan with 11 points.

Oneonta falls to 1-10 and will next host Plattsburgh State on Tuesday January 10th at 6 PM.

Congratulations to Justin Mitchell who was chosen as the SUNYAC PLAYER of the WEEK for the week ending January 3rd

Here's the write up from the SUNYAC website:

Buffalo State junior forward Justin Mitchell (Buffalo/Timon) was named the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Men's Basketball Player of the Week, and the Bengals moved up three spots to 21st in this week's D3hoops.com national poll.

The Bengals handed Wesleyan (Ct.) just its second loss of the season on Saturday, winning 80-77, and then defeated the previously unbeaten host Cardinals, 82-81, on Sunday to win the Catholic University Classic.

Mitchell was named the MVP of the tournament after averaging 18.0 points in the two victories, including matching a career-high with 27 points against Catholic in the title game.

Buffalo State's 10-1 start is its best start to a season since opening the 1991-92 campaign with an 11-1 mark.  The Bengals are 23-2 in their last 25 games dating back to last season.

Buffalo State will play an exhibition game tomorrow at Division I University at Buffalo at 7 p.m., before returning to SUNYAC play at home next Monday against Fredonia at 8 p.m.

To make Justin Mitchell's week a little sweeter The Buffalo State forward was named to the D3hoops Team of the Week for the week ending January 1st.

This marks the 4th time out of 6 weeks that a player from the SUNYAC conference has received this D3hoops award.

One game on tap today:

Geneseo State at Cortland State   6 PM

Two teams at the opposite end of the conference standings. Which Geneseo team will show up. The one that looked like a solid contender beating Plattsburgh on the road or the one that stunk up the joint the next day at Potsdam. For that matter which Cortland team will show up. Hopefully for the Red Dragons not the one that got pounded by Nazareth this past Wednesday 87-56. Something tells me Coach Spanbauer will have worked out those kinks. Posted line has the Red Dragons favored by 13, the margin of victory
when the Red Dragons won 64-51 just last month. I think this one is deja vu all over again. Cortland wins 72-57.

Geneseo leading Cortland 36-29 at the half. Red Dragons still suffering from Naz-itis as the Blue Knights jumped out to a 15-5 advantage 9 minutes into the game. Followed that up with another 8-3 spurt to give them their largest lead of the period 23-8. Cortland comes back with a 15-4 spurt of their own and cuts the lead to 27-23 with 3:48 to play. Knights build it back to a 9 point edge and settle for the 7 point advantage heading into the break. Ryan Riefenhauser with 12 pts to lead Geneseo. Jesse Winter with 10 for the Dragons. I bet it's pretty noisy in that Red Dragon locker room right about now.

Cortland down 63-60 with the ball and 8 seconds left to play. Team takes a timeout. Harrison Hefele attempts a 3 pointer at the buzzer but it doesn't go and the Blue Knights upset the Red Dragons in Cortland.   :o

Two games on the schedule tonight:

Oswego State at Medgar Evers  7 PM

Oswego St. playing their final non-conference game of the season tonight and it won't be a walk in the park. Medgar Evers comes into this game with an 8-6 record but does have an impressive 93-88 win over Ramapo College on Dec.9th. The Cougars also own a 95-93 win over 9-1 Albertus Magnus College, handing the Falcons their only loss 3 days before the Ramapo game on December 6th. The Cougars got a tip in buzzer beater to win that one. Albertus Magnus had handed #23 Western Connecticut (12-1) their only loss of the season. Medgar Evers also played Western Connecticut but fell to the Colonials 85-72 in a game that was closer than the final score indicated. The Cougars returned all 5 starters from last year but sr. guard James Gilmore hasn't played since November. Still the Cougars have plenty of firepower as evidenced by their 76 ppg scoring average. Four players are averaging double figures led by Winston Douglas who is averaging a double double of 16 ppg and 10 rpg. Twins Jovan (15.8 ppg, 7.8 rpg) and Jarrel (13.6 ppg, 6.0 rpg) Deare are both juniors. Jovan is a forward while Jarrel alternates between the forward and guard position. Soph. guard Tony Sims also average double digits with 10.9 ppg. Oddsmakers have made the Lakers a 6 point favorite. This could be an upset in the making but I'm sticking with Oswego and think they'll leave Brooklyn with a 76-71 victory.

No media coverage of this game at all tonight, not even livestats. Boo!
