Fredonia leads Potsdam 24-11 at the break.

11 points in 20 minutes - I think thats a "new low".

Bears mounted a mighty comeback and actually led 34-30 in 2nd half.  Devils now lead 41-36 with under three to play, this is in the era of the three point shot and the shot clock.  Hard to believe.  I have seen several zebra calls that belong in the hall of shame, especially since I am viewing from the west coast.

Fredonia leads 43-39 with 1 min left.  Bears only have 4 PF's so two to give and possibly get a steal on the OOB.

Geneseo defeats New Paltz 80-69. Modified this score as livestats had it 80-70, but New Paltz website shows it as 80-69.

Brockport now trailing Oneonta 55-54 with 36 seconds to go. Time out called by Oneonta and they have the ball. Oneonta calls another time out. Red Dragons come out of the TO and Frankie Kelly hits a jumper to make it 57-54. With 12 seconds left Oneonta fouls Jon Ivy of Brockport. He makes the first and misses the 2nd free throw. Time out Brockport. Port fouls Kelly and he makes them both with 8 seconds left. Ports Ivy goes coast to coast for a layup with 3 ticks to make it 59-57. Port fouls again and Oneonta misses both foul shots. Brockport rebounds but can't get the tying shot to go, if they even got one off. Red Dragons from Oneonta grab their first SUNYAC win of the year in dramatic fashion beating the Golden Eagles 59-57.

Buffalo State 110  Plattsburgh 68

This game was never close after the first 6 minutes. Plattsburgh led 9-7 at the 16:16 mark when the Bengals Jake Simmons nails 3 triples on 4 Bengal possessions to open up a 16-11 lead with 14:19 to go. They stretched it to 11 points at 29-18 and after the Cardinals closed to within 6 the Bengals roared to a 41-27 edge with 5 minutes left in the half. Cards cut it to 10 with 3:48 to play and the Bengals for all intensive purposes put the game away with an 11-2 run to end the half and take a 19 point 54-35 lead into the break. The only way this would become a competitive contest was if Plattsburgh Coach Curle could work some halftime magic. Apparently he couldn't pull a rabbit out of his hat because the Bengals steadily increased their lead and with 10:23 remaing in the period Buffalo State had a 30 point margin at 81-51. Jake Simmons just made triple after triple and left the game with 37 points, nine 3 pointers and plenty of time on the clock. If this game had been close and he was needed there's no telling how many 3 balls Jake might have swished. I tried to look up the SUNYAC record for most 3's in a single game but the YAC doesn't give you regular season single game records. They do it for baseball but not for hoops. :o ??? They do give single game records for the SUNYAC Basketball Tournament and that record is 8 triples, held by Jeff Robbins from Oswego who did it against Oneonta in 2003. The record for 3 point attempts is 17, held by Bernard Crawford from Oneonta against Buffalo State in 1995. Tonight, although it's not a tournamnet game,Jake would have  broken Robbins' mark with 9 and tied Crawford's mark with 17 three point attempts. The tournament mark for most field goal attempts is also held by Crawford in that same game with 28.Tonight Jake had 24. He finished with 37 points on 13x24 fg, 9x17 threes, and 2x2 ft. Ahmed Nagaya had 17 points (6x10 fg, 5x7 3's) and 11 rebounds. Nico McLean added 11 points (4x6 fg, 3x3 3's), 5 asssists, 4 rebounds and a steal. Norman Simmons had 9 points, (4x5 fg, 1x1 ft), with 5 steals, 4 assists, and 3 rebounds. The Bengals were a pack a thieves  tonight as they had 15 steals. It's the third time they've played a team of Cardinals (Wesleyan, and Catholic U, being the others) and they've feasted on all three. Buffalo state shot lights out, and were better from downtown than from the field. They were 42x72 from the field for 58.3%. Shot 15x25 from behind the arc for an even 60%. They were only 11x17 from the line for 64.7 %. I guess they need to work on that. They won the battle of the boards 42 to 39 and had 24 turnovers to 29 for Plattsburgh.

Not many bright spots for Plattsburgh tonight. John Perez led the team with 12 points (5x8 fg, 2x7 ft) and 10 of those came in the first half. He also had 7 rebounds. Shavar Fields had 10 points (3x8 fg, 4x6 ft) as did Junghoon Roh (3x9 fg, 2x6 3's, 2x4 ft). Reggie Williams led the team in rebounding with 8 boards along with 8 points. Josh Bruno was perfect tonight going 3x3 from the field and 2x2 from long distance for 8 points. Shamoy McIntosh had 7 points, 5 steals, 2 assists and 2 rebounds in 18 minutes. Cards shot 24x61 fg (39.3%),onlu 5x18 3's (26.3%) and a woeful 15x34 (44.1%) from the stripe.

Buffalo State improves to 13-4 overall and 6-3 in the conference with their weekend sweep of the North Country. They remain tied with Geneseo for 3rd place and might be locked in a three way battle for 2nd place if Cortland loses to Oswego later tonight. They now have 6 days off aamd will return to action when they host New Paltz and then Oneonta next weekend. The down time couldn't have come at a better time for the Bengals as they can now hope for the return of star forward Justin Mitchell for the next set of games.

Plattsburgh falls to 6-9 overall and 4-5 in the YAC. It was a lost weekend for the Cards who needed a split at worst to stay in the race for an upper division spot and a chance to host a playoff game. They're not out of it yet but with a trip to #1 Middlebury up next on Tuesday and then Oswego and Cortland coming to town next weekend, it's hard to see any wins there. Coach Curle won't be happy at practice this week as he was handed, quite possibly, his worst defeat since taking over the Cardinal program eight years ago. The two North Country schools managed an ofer weekend going 0-4. The last time that happened was 1106 days ago (Jan. 9th and 10th, 2009) :-[

I hope the weather out there is treating you better than the boys from the western part of the state are treating our hoop teams. I mentioned the poor officiating I've witnessed in a few games this year in a post over on the Liberty league board earlier today. I actually left out 4 or 5 of the worst ones and used examples from teams that are in other leagues or that I don't have any particular allegiance to. Looking forward to Saturday February 11th in Potsdam. Have a safe trip home.
