You said it jdex,Oswego finds a way to win. Doesn't hurt when you have two seniors like Burridge and Ward though. ;D My condolences, but at least your Red Dragons were in it to the end, unlike some other red creatures that got monkey stomped. :-[

Geneseo 80 New Paltz 69

Tight first half as teams exchanged baskets and lead throughout. Eight lead changes and two ties befor Geneseo took over at 31-30 with 3:22 to go. They stayed in front and went into the locker room up by 5 at 38-33. Hawks Shalik jenkins opened the 2nd half with a 3 ball to cut the lead to two but Blue Knights opened up with a 10-0 run to make it a 12 point lead at 48-36 with only 2:35 gone in the period. New Paltz could never get any closer than 8 points and that was only on 1 occasion at 60-52 with 8:19 to play. Knights immediately built it back to 13 and the Hawks never got it back to single digits.

Geneseo was led by Jordan Jones with 22 points and 6 rebounds. Mike Hoy had 14 points and Matt Curry scored 13. Knights were 29x54 fg (53.7%), 7x14 3's (50%), 15x24 ft (62.5%). They had 32 rebounds to 25 for the Hawks. They only had 12 turnovers, while New Paltz committed 15.

New Paltz was led by Matt Devine with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Harris Wichard added 19 points. Hawks shot 25x49 from the field (51%), 7x21 3's (33.3%) and 12x19 ft (63.2%).

Geneseo finally gets to the .500 mark with an 8-8 record and are solidly in the mix with a 6-3 record. A nice turnaround for a team that was 1-6 then 2-7 just two weeks ago to now be on an even keel. With Oswego's defeat of Cortland tonight there is now a 3 way tie for 2nd place. If the season ended today the Blue Knights would have that 2nd place spot by virtue of victories over both Cortland and Buffalo State. Even though Cortland has also beaten Geneseo, the Red Dragons have no wins against either Oswego or Buff State, thereby giving the placement to Geneseo by virtue of the 2nd tiebreaker used. It's still too early to worry about that for the Blue Knights. Ther most immediate problem will be the Lakers, who invade Alumni Fieldhouse on Tuesday. A loss then, will drop them from 2nd to 4th in a hurry. And then they travel to Brockport for a rematch of the barnburner that took place last week.

New Paltz is in a free fall having lost 4 in a row to 4 of the top 5 teams in the standings. Up next is the other top team and probably the most dangerous after Oswego, the Buffalo State Bengals. The Hawks will travel next weekend to Buffalo and then to Fredonia. The bad news only gets worse because Buff State will probably get Justin Mitchell back for that game. They say bad news comes in threes and sure enough the final dose to the Hawks is six straight road games. Can you say 8th place? And that's if the Bears don't heat up.

Oswego takes 22nd straight 'Yac victory in dramatic fashion. With 2.3 seconds left H. Ward takes C. Burridge inbounds pass and connects from 18 feet for 69-67 win. Corts scoreless over final three plus minutes after taking 67-58 lead. R. Sheridan, S. Michele, C. Burridge land clutch comeback markers. Ward sees limited second half play with 4pf. Still nets 18 pts(8x13fg) in 25'. Michele 12 pts(4x6 3s), Burridge 12 pts(4x8fg), 9 rebs in 39'; Sheridan 10 pts. Lakers 28x51fg, 7x17 3s, 6x8ft, 29 rebs, 14 trnvrs. RDragons J. Smith sheds shooting slump with 21 pts(7x11fg, 5x7 3s). J. Winter 20 pts(9x9ft), 5 assts; B. Manning 9 pts, 6 rebs, 4pf. CSt 11x19 3s but just 21x54fg. Hits 14x15ft and colleccts 28 rebs, 11 trnvrs. Corts by seven late in the first half, down by pair at the half

I hope u r right magicman. Our past 2 weekends were the complete opposite of each other. I sure hope that my BENGALS have worked out the kinks. Getting Justin back next week (hopefully) should lift the spirits in Western n y.. Dont want to make too much of this weekends victories. Oneonta just defeated a Brockport team that ate our lunch last week and New Paltz has 3 of the Yac's top 11 scorers.1 must respect that type of firepower!

BENGALS are 6-3 (13-3 overall) at the midpoint of Yac. Last year they were 5-4 (10-5 overall) at midpoint and then went 8-1 for the 2nd half. Gonna have to to repeat our second half performance (at the min.) to at least have a shot at a dance ticket! ;)

Oneonta 59 Brockport 57

This one is the shocker of the day, maybe even the year in the YAC. How can Brockport look so good in beating Buffalo State and blowing out New Paltz? Then look so bad and more importantly blow a 7 point lead in the last four minutes to a team that could only manage 1 field goal last night in the final 10 minutes. I'm  :o

Brockport opened the scoring and then had a 4-2 lead before Oneonta took over for the rest of the half. They opend up a double digit lead as the Golden Eagles missed shot after shot in between turnovers. Ahead 14-4 with 13:40 to play the Red Dragons stretched it to 25-12 with 6:43 remaining. Two minutes later it was a 15 point lead and they coasted into the half, doubling up the Eagles 36-18. Me and four of my friends, can score more than 18 points in a half. And none of us are taller than 6'1". The lead would reach 19 points early in the 2nd half before Port slowly began to chip away. They got it to single digits with 13:39 left and cut it to 5 on a 3 ball by Derek Klein with 8:34 to go. They finally made it all the way back when Stephen Sisson was fouled on a three point attempt. He went to the line and hit 2 of 3 to tie the score at 43 apiece with 7 minutes to play. On the ensuing Oneonta possession, Donnell Jackson steals the ball, makes a layup and the Eagles have their first lead since the game was 2 minutes old. Oneonta starts missing free throws, missing shots commiting turnovers and just likethat it's 51-44 in favor of the Eagles. Still up by 5 with 2:46 to go Port misses twice from the field and gets 1 of 2 from the line. Red dragons meanwhile get a bucket by Frankie kelly and a triplr from Dan lee to pull back into a tie at 53. Port gets a free throw Kelly hits a jumper, Port misfires, and Kelly hits another jumper. Now up 57-54 with 2o seconds left the Red Dragons send Port to the line. Jon Ivy hits 1 of 2, Port has to foul and Kelly hits them both to make it a 2 possession game and ice it for the Red Dragons. Way to finish Frankie Kelly. Dan Lee with 17 points and kelly with 16 points to lead Oneonta. Cameron Boyden with 5 points and 10 boards. Oneonta hit the boards for 40 reebounds while Port had 28.

Donnell Jackson led Brockport with 19 points while Jon Ivy added 16. Telling statistic, to me anyways, 1000 point scorer Gerald Williams only took 4 shots all night making 1.  First team A C Kyheem Green only took 8 shots making 2 and never got to the line. Was the defense from the last place team in the conference and losers of 14 straight games that good or the offense of Port that bad.

Oneonta breaks an almost season long losing streak. With the next 4 games on the road starting with Fredonia and Buff St next weekend I don't see any signs of a winning streak.

Brockport drops to 6-9 overall and 4-4 in the YAC. Next up is a visit from the other Red Dragons as Cortland invades Tuttle North. Will Brockport get beat by both teams of Dragons in a week's time? Tune in next week. Same Bat time, same Bat channel.

Just a thought while celebrating the Giants victory........ I wonder if Jake Simmons 53 point weekend (20 of 37 from the field - 54%, including 11 of 21 from beyond the arc - 52%) vs. Potsdam & Plattsburgh, might qualify him for A - SUNYAC Player of the week, B- ECAC Player of the Week and/or C D3Hoops team of the week?. Might I add that he scored 53 pts. in 48 mins of play (20 mins vs. Potsdam and 28 mins vs. Plattsburgh) and his 9  - 3 pointers vs. Plattsburgh broke a school record that has stood  since 2005!!!

  Just a thought!! ;)

Go GIANTS!!

I'd vote for him to get all three of those honors. 8-) Plattsburgh's Coach Curle was quoted in today's Plattsburgh Press Republican  with this statement: "Jake Simmons had 37 points in 28 minutes. If he would have played more he would have had 50. He was hitting them with people on him...he's just a good player and we didn't have an answer".

The fact that Jake had such a good weekend without Justin Mitchell in the lineup is even more reason to award him Player of the Week accolades.
