jdex did a good job manning the fort tonight. He'll have the same duty tomorrow afternoon as I get to watch his Cortland team play my Cardinals. I'm telling you right now jdex, I'm taking the Cards. It's payback time for last year. (and this year!!!) ;D

I'll Be there in spirit.  I ruptured a cyst in my left knee on Wednesday morning, so have been immobile and horizontal for the most part since that time either in medical facilities or at home.  Have avoided surgery, but have a semi-useless left leg at this point in time.

Well bear, that's a fine how do you do! And I spent all this time tonight building you up for the Burridge family so they could meet and greet you tomorrow afternoon. (I mean this afternoon since it's 5:03 Saturday morning). Told them to go to the scorer's table and ask for "the bear". Said you might even be at the scorer's table, but if you weren't someone there would direct them to you. These nice folks come all the way up north from Oswego, to what?... see their son play basketball? Hell no, they can see him play basketball in Oswego any time they want. They came up to see "the bear", (not the magicman, they met me last year, I'm old news) since it would be their last chance to do so. He ain't playing next year, you know! Even told them how Mrs. Bear's sister taught the Burridge boys in school and of course they had some questions for you about that. Now you're going to disappoint them for the 2nd year in a row. And to think, they've hung on every word you've said, every pearl of wisdom you've polished, every little golden nugget of SUNYAC Legend and Lore you mined from deep in the recesses of that fabled cerebellum of yours,.... and for what? To get blown off once again. OH THE HUMANITY!! Last year you had the crud or something and this year you got a bum knee. You getting old or what?  You better not try and pull this sh!t when I come over there in two weeks. I'll come gunning for you. I'm  :o

PS: You can't get the darn soccer team to to get one of those reclining wheelchairs and wheel you into Jerry's Gym and set you up at the end of the scorer's table? The football team has been doing that at Middlebury for about 25 years for the same fellow who's a big fan of the hoops team. He's unable to walk so they go get him. They call it "Picking up David Butch" (not sure if I got his name right I just remembered his name) but it was featured on ESPN last year. I saw him at the Middlebury game on Tuesday, as they wheeled him in and they set Butch up right next to the player's bench. You'd think they could do it for Potsdam's biggest fan, "the bear" just once or twice. ;D

The #1 team in the East Region NYU was upset Friday evening as the UAA's 7th place team, Carnegie-Mellon flew into New York City and toppled the 1st place and 17th ranked Violets 70-68. The Tartans took the lead for good at the 10:46 mark of the 1st half and held off NYU down the stretch. The Tartans led by as much as 12 points in the 1st period and still had an 14 point lead with 14:37 to go in the game. Violets slowly cut into that gap and got it down to 2 at 64-62 with 1:33 left to play. Four unanswered points built the lead back to 6 with 39 seconds on the clock, but NYU got a layup and one, then after a Tartan free throw, NYU got a 3 pointer to make it 69-68 and trail by a single point. Again the Violets foul and CM only hits 1 of 2 with 11 ticks remaining. NYU comes down to tie or win it, but has the ball stolen with 1 second left and that's the ballgame. It knocked NYU out of 1st place, probably down a few rungs in the top 25 poll and will certainly hurt them a bit in the regional rankings. Buff State or Oswego may be the beneficiary of that loss at some point down the road.

Dear Magic, Thanks for the buildup.

As it turns out, IF I get out of the house today, it will be for a 5PM gourmet dining experience that we do annually at Potsdam as a fundraiser for our Community Performance Series.  Since my wife provides several interns to that fine organization during the course of a year, it's a sacrifice that I make, as she's a good sport and generally gives me free rein to go to ball (and puck) games.

My darling wife has been known to scat a tune or two at this event, something she is pretty good at, so that's an added bonus.

So alas, I will miss the Burridges once again, and will have to make the supreme sacrifice of eating an outstanding five course meal, and getting to listen to great jazz while doing so.

So I will be doing everything in my power to do my best gimpy gipper imitation, and make the Gourmet Guys (and a Girl) event.

Hopefully Curtis Pierce will have worn out the Cort folks enough that your Cards can steal on this afternoon.

Thanks Magic... I usually get to deliver the bad news at the table... as Bengals found out last year... me being the "rather rotund fellow" and all.  Easy to find I guess.  My best also to the Bear... spoke to your wife a little while ago at the Crane auditions and am glad you are on the mend!

And we, too, send along 'get well' wishes to The Bear, though sounds like he's on his way judging from this evening's activities. Of course, his beloved courtly Bears could have certainly helped speed up the process with a few good showings. And for that, sorry for Friday result but pulling for you this afternoon! One good 'W' should have you up and jigging a short time later. By the way, this evening's entertainment right up my alley. Some nice smooth jazz, man! We here in Sarasota region know those sounds only too well. Outstanding winter shows hereabouts in many venues.

But speaking of good wins, know Magic's at odds with us today. We'd warn him to be wary of the Winter ......  up in the north country you certainly know that word! J. Winter with quite the off night on Friday. Talk about manning up, however, how 'bout B. Manning show. We don't anticipate another cold Winter's day. But Corts do walk a pretty good wire act this season (Oswego debacle the exception). That said, Burgh will be tough hurdle.

Hope Cards' live stats operating on even keel. Had a few moments last evening. In fact, never did close out final 0:13 and that sent us scurrying to finalize. Had a feeling foul line was the difference. A bit of a twist. We remember when guests always felt they got the hosing. From Magic's musings, sounded like both sides felt cheated.

Fredonia last night didn't get separation until late. A. Billups trey made it 45-35 at 4:09. Fourth game in which Freds hold foe under 45 points. Oneonta shoots 24 percent. Devil J.Bryant 14 pts, D. Goodwin 11 pts, L. Smith 8 rebs and 3 assts. RDragon F. Kelly 17 pts(3x6fg, 9x10ft)

Computer problems at my home today have to make some quick picks then off to the Plattsburgh-Cortland game

Cortland at Plattsburgh

Cortland looking for a weekend sweep. Plattsburgh looking for a win. Losers of 4 straight the Cards need to play today like they did yesterday and they'll be fine. Cards better play man to man or Cortland's zonebreakers will have a field day. Winter, Manning, and Co. put a hurting on the Burgh last year. I don't think the friendly confines of Memorial Hall will be that friendly again this year. Pointspread has Red Dragons favored by 5 but I'm going with the Cards 69-66.

Oswego at Potsdam

Lakers SUNYAC streak at 25 and counting. Bears won't have enough weapons to prevent #26. Pointspread favors Oswego by 14. That's sounds right. Oswego 73 Potsdam 58.

Oneonta at Buffalo State

Red Dragons hung with the Bengals in their first meeting back in December. Don't think that will happen this time around. Buffalo St. is favored by 18. This one could get ugly early. Bengals 92 Oneonta 62

New Paltz at Fredonia

Tough game to predict as Fredonia continues to move up in the standings and New Paltz continues on a downward trend. Hawks won soundly when they met in Hawk Center back in December. Fredonia thinking revenge and I think they'll get it with their defensive efforts of late. oddsmakers have them favored by 10 but I think it will be closer.  Blue Devils win it 65-60.

Geneseo St. at Brocklport St.

Golden Eagles suffered a narrow defeat at Geneseo 2 weeks ago. The tables will be turned today. Golden Eagles win this one 67-62.

Cortland over Plattsburgh 37-23 at the half. Breaks 14 all tie at 11:22 on B. Manning trey. Manning with 10 pts. Pburgh's J. Perez and S. Fields each saddled early with two fouls

Buffalo State hitting on all cylinders in 53-37 intermission rout of Oneonta. Bengals 22x32fg. A. Nagaya 18 pts(8x8fg), J. Simmons 13 pts (5x9fg)

Oswego nears half with 36-29 edge on Potsdam. H. Ward 16 pts

Fredonia and New Paltz squared at 33 miday through their tilt

jdex

Am sure Magic's heart must have skipped a beat ....know mine did ..........as in Cortland 65, Plattsburgh 58, which says little about this one ....as in !!!!!!!!

Corts with 45-25 lead with 17:09 left .......Cards begin comeback at 16:34 paced by J. Moody and S. Fields ........on Fields hoop with 4:04 left ......IT'S 53-53 .......

RDragon J. White then appears after being missing in action a good deal of the weekend. He counters Field with a basket at 3:44, his eighth and ninth points. B. Manning finishes his 16 point game at 2:48 to hike lead to 57-53. White adds two points but K. Brooks gets them back for Cards .... and it's 59-55 at 1:39. Winters FTs at 1:23 get daylight and he finishes the job from the line. Both sides score at the horn. Winters 17 pts(9x10ft), Manning 16 pts., and J. Smith 10 pts. Actually, Magic, Manning sat out last season. For Pburgh in heartbreaking loss it was Fields and Moody with 15 pts apiece

jdex

Buffalo St. has no worries in 102-65 blitzing of Oneonta. Bengal A. Nagaya absolutely shines ......as in 30 pts on 13x13 field goals .....4x7ft, 9 rebs in 27 minutes!! J. Simmons 17 pts, N. McLean 12 pts. Buffs 40x66 from the field. Oneonta's F. Kelly 13 pts, N. Sarchioto 12 pts

Oswego State 76 Potsdam State 56

New Paltz 54 Fredonia 52

New Paltz wins on A. Siergiez deuce in the paint at 0:00. Tight throughout second half, tied at 49 at 3:01. NP S. Jenkins connects at 1:47 from beyond the arc. D. Goodwin matches for the Devils. Hawk M. Devine 21 pts(9x17fg). J. Bryant nets 13 pts in defeat.

Oswego's H. Ward winds up with 23 pts(7x9fg), 8 rebs. S. Michele with 15 pts(5x7fg); C. Burridge 15 pts(4x8fg), 4 blks; C. Monaghan 10 pts, 4 assts; C. Gilkes 4 assts. Bears C. Pierce 15 pt, 12 rebs; R. Duquette 10 pts. Lakers 23x49fg, Pdam 22x57

Bengalsrule

Good weekend for my beloved BENGALS. Especially happy for Ahmed Nagaya (13 for 13 today and 19 of 23 = 42 points for the weekend). His 15 rebounds for the weekend were an added plus. Putting in 48 mins for the weekend will hopefully allow him to enjoy the first weekend of his fellow students back to school. An added plus for the weekend was the BENGALS 24 assists to only 7 turnovers vs. New Paltz yesterday.

As proud as many were of the BENGALS performance vs. New paltz,  many were equally impressed with the BENGALS discipline today vs. Oneonta. #15 for Oneonta - Nick Sarchioto, tried singlehandly to start a brawl with any Bengal who would go. With less than 3 mins gone (17:53 mark to be exact) in the first half, during a deadball, Sarchioto uses his elbow against Norm Simmons head to create space. Referee calls Flagrant 1 and Simmons shoots 1 (makes 1). In the 2nd half (17:49) while wrestling with Jake Simmons for a loose ball, Sarchioto pushes Jake Simmons back to the floor as Simmons attempts to get up (after the referee blows the whistle). Jake pushes back..double tech! And then with 13:27 left in the 2nd half, all hell breaks out in front of the Dragons bench, with a number of technicals called..coaches running on the floor to offer restraint and Sarchioto being ejected.

I've been around the BENGALS for 6 plus years, however I must admit that, before today,  I have never seen a Yac player get a flagrant 1 and 2 Technicals in the same game. I guess when you are 1-10 in Conference play then stuff like that happens. >:(  ???. Don't know. Kudo's to the brave BENGAL coach who restrained a number of BENGAL players from running on the court to join thier outnumbered teamamtes, (who were being threatened/outnumbered by the entire Oneonta team). (I understand that coach is a friend of With Age came. :). )

Justin Mitchell's return (from being off 3 weeks with a high ankle sprain) was also a welcome sight (22 mins total for the weekend). Didn't really need him this weekend (plus I know that Magicman wants a healthy Justin when the BENGALS arrive on Friday).  ::). Justin will do his best to make sure that magicman happy. ;)

Best news of the weekend goes to the NCAA who ruled Friday that the BENGALS will not be penalized for scheduling their exhibiton with U.B., after Nov. 15th! No lost games...no penalty! Great weekend! ;)

Glad to hear that the Bengals won't suffer a penalty that might have hurt their possible postseason participation.

Brockport avenges their 1 point loss to Geneseo on January 17th as they down the Blue Knights 71-67 this evening.
