4. I don't drink the orange kool-aid like you do. ;D

Magicman you may want to rethink that. There's a "Special" going on  this week during the SUNYAC Basketball and Hockey playoffs. "Buy one get one free - B.O.K.A."

BENGALS ORANGE KOOL AID

Could be sold out by Weds., so hurry before the supply runs out!! ;)

New D3hoops Top 25 poll out today and Oswego State moves up another 2 spots to #14. The Lakers point total increased from 229 to 274.

Hartwick also moved up from the #25 spot to the #21 position. They went from 50 points to 111.

NYU continues to fall as they are now getting 8 points in the ORV category and would be in 38th place.

Hobart, who got a little more notice than last week, now has 5 points, and lands in 40th place.

No other East Region school was mentioned. Neither Cortland State or Stevens Tech, both with 19-6 overall records and the schools with the best records in the East other than those mentioned above, got any recognition.

with age came?

Computer was down for about a week...so much action so little time....  In my perfect YAC world Bengals beat Oswego State in the finals (I feel like I must have been bad luck for the Bengals - I go to see them play and they lose Mitchell, the game and most of the games since).  That being said ....everyone's record is zero and zero now!!  Do some serious damage Bengals!!!  1 win at a time!!! Of course Magic I hope the Cards do well too out of respect for you but barring a complete "meltdown" by the Lakers it is unlikely they'll be dancing this year.... ;D

Thanks for the well wishes there With age! We'll try and make your dreams a reality. ;)

Did someone say a Buff State vs. Plattsburgh Final!? Sounds good to me! ;D  Its possible!  Circa 2008-9 - Number 1, 2 and 4 seeds all lose first round. Number 8 seed (Brockport) meets number #5 seed (Fredonia) in Championship game (At Oswego). "Keep hope alive"!!! (My stomach is in a KNOT  :-[ )

Jesse Winter was chosen as the SUNYAC Player of the Week for the week ending Feb. 19th. Jesse became a double dipper as he was also named as the ECAC Upstate Region Player of the Week. No real surprises there as he was the top contender. Congratulations Jesse, hope you got it out of your system. ;D You can go back to normal tonight, against my Cards. I've had enough Winter for this year, thank you.

Here's the write up from the SUNYAC website:

Cortland guard Jesse Winter was named the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Men's Basketball Player of the Week. Winter averaged 22.3 points, 5.0 assists and 4.0 rebounds per game in three Cortland victories as the Red Dragons clinched second place in the SUNYAC standings. He scored a career-high 36 points and dished out seven assists in Cortland's 108-105 overtime victory versus Buffalo State in the regular-season finale. During that game, Winter became the 20th player in team history to reach 1,000 career points and the ninth to do so in three or less seasons. He scored 21 points in the second half and six of Cortland's 15 points in overtime. Earlier in the week, Winter totaled 19 points, six rebounds and four assists in a win over Brockport and had 12 points and four assists in a win versus Fredonia.

And from the ECAC website:

Jesse Winter – SUNY Cortland
Junior, Guard, Rockville Centre, N.Y.

Winter averaged 22.3 points, 4.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists in a 3-0 week for the Red Dragons, who wrapped up the No. 2 seed in the upcoming State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC)  tournament.  The junior scored a career-high 36 points in Cortland's 108-105 overtime win over Buffalo State, becoming the 20th player in program history to surpass 1,000 career points

He didn't make the D3hoops team of the week but was probably under consideration. Two factors against him were great weeks by the 2 guards that were chosen for the D3 team and another Cortland hoopster, Brittany Cohen, from the Lady Red Dragons was chosen for the Women's Team of the Week. Two out of Three ain't bad though.

The Second Season is upon us. Probably for every team except Oswego State it's One and Done if you lose. Here's my selections for tonight's action.

#6 Fredonia State at #3 Geneseo State 8:00 PM

Round three between these 2 teams and Geneseo is still looking for a win. They lost a tough one at home, back on January 13th, when Fredonia went to the line with 1 second on the clock in a tie game. Blue Devils made the first, missed the 2nd and they stole one from the Knights. 2nd game a month later was all Blue Devils from the outset. Tonight Geneseo has a chance for some payback in the one that really counts. Pointspread has this game favoring Geneseo by 2 points and it should be a down to the wire finish. I'm going with the Blue Knights to win 60-57.

#5 Buffalo State at #4 Brockport State 7:00 PM

Bengals in a similar spot as Geneseo as they have yet to beat Brockport this season. Both times Buff State had to deal with the loss of Justin Mitchell just prior to these games being played. And tonight will be no different as Mitchell will once again be missing in action. I don't know if the Bengals can win this game without him but I do know that they'll come to play and will leave it all on the court tonight. Oddsmakers have listed this game as a pick em and I've already picked em 2 days ago. Bengals 83 Brockport 80.

#7 Plattsburgh State at #2 Cortland State 7:00 PM

Cardinals have hung with the Red Dragons in both contests this year and came back from a 21 point 2nd half deficit in their most recent game to catch Cortland with 4 minutes to go. Only a great drive by Jesse Winter followed by a wing and a prayer from Brian Manning put Plattsburgh in a hole they couldn't dig out of. I wish I could have seen some improvement on the road this past weekend that would give me some hope in this game. unfortunately the Cards mailed those last two games in. Cortland seems to be peaking at the right time and they did give the Lakers their toughest contest in the YAC this year. Too many shooters for Plattsburgh to cover and 3 point shooters in particular, have killed the Cards all year. Pointspread has the Red Dragons favored by 13. I think that might be too many but I can't see this one coming down to the wire either. I hope I'm wrong but I think Cortland moves on with a 73-65 victory.

#8 New Paltz State at #1 Oswego State   7:00 PM

The Lakers are on a mission to take this season a couple of steps further than last year. First and foremost is winning the SUNYAC Championship, something this group of players has yet to do. For seniors Chad Burridge, Sean Michele, Conor Monaghan, Ryan Sheridan, and Brian Gebhardt, plus juniors Hayden Ward and Chris Gilke it's an improtant missing piece to their resume. Tonight's contest against the Hawks doesn't figure to be much of a contest as the oddsmakers have Oswego favored by a whopping 18 point margin. Hawks can score points in bunches though and Harris Wichard and Matt Devine are always dangerous. Lakers need to get off to a solid start so they're not under pressure down the stretch. I think the Lakers do just that and win going away 84-68.

Mike Mitchell with 8 points for Plattsburgh. Junghoon Roh and Ketema Brooks both have 7. Jesse Winter with 11 and Jeremy Smith with 10 lead the Red Dragons.

Cortland up by 6 early on but Cards hang tough and gain the lead at 18-17 with 7:16 to play. Cortland goes back up by 5 but Cards once again come back to lead by 1 at 24-23. Four ties thereafter until the end of the half.

Oswego up on new Paltz 36-28 at the break. Hayden Ward with 11 and Chad burridge with 9 to pace the Lakers. Matt Devine with 11 and Nick Taldi with 9 for the Hawks. Lakers out of the gate quickly and go up 15-4 with 5 minutes gone in the game. Still up 29-14 with 9:41 left in the half, Lakers get doubled up 14-7 by the Hawks over the rest of the period.

Buffalo State was down early against the Eagles at 8-0 and after closing to 8-7 fall behind again 23-11 with 9:24 left in the period. Bengals close to 23-20 and finally catch Brockport at 31 apiece on a Jake Simmons 3 pointer with 3:21 to go. Bengals grab their first lead on a Roderick Epps free throw and Norman Simmons' basket for a 34-31 edge, but Port gets a free throw by Kyheem Green and a drive to the hoop by Jordan Major to tie it at 34 each going into the break. Donnell Jackson and John Ivy lead the Eagles with 9 points each. Epps with 12 and Jake Simmons with 11 top the Bengals.

Oswego State moves into the semis as they defeat New Paltz 73-62.

Cortland dusts Plattsburgh 75-60 -- a closer game than indicated. Burgh's R. Williams strikes to open second half for the lead. RDragons get reversal and forge lead of nine points. Stubborn Cards with in 56-54 at 7' mark before J. Winters and B. Manning drain three-pointers to build margin to 10 at 3:31. Stretch to 11 but K. Brooks quickly hits from beyond the arc at 1:43. Captain and lone senior N. Sutedjo takes Winter feed and makes dagger trey for 71-60 edge.
Winter a catylyst once more .......20 points(7x12fg, 3x6 3s), 6 assts. J. Smith with 18 pts(5x10fg, 3x6 3s); B. Manning 12 pts, 6 rebs; K. McMahon 9 pts, 6 rebs. Brooks with 14 pts(5x7fg), 8 rebs. for Cards, J. Perez 10 pts, 3 assts; R. Williams 6 rebs

Cortland joins the Lakers in the semi-finals as they down Plattsburgh 75-60. Game was closer than the final score as the Cards were only down 56-54 with 7 minutes to go. 8-0 Cortland run feuled by Jesse Winter free throw and 3 ball give Corts a double digit lead. Cards cut it to 68-60 but a trifecta by Nick Sutedjo and free throws down the stretch close out the Cards. Winter with 20 points  Jeremy Smith with 18. Ketema Brooks in his final game as a Cardinal leads Plattsburgh with 14 points and 8 rebounds. John Perez with 10 points for the Cards.

Brockport up 82-73 over the Bengals with under 2 minutes to go.

Geneseo over Freds 23-20 with 6 minutes left in the 1st half.

#3959
Bengals down 82-70 with 2:09 to play have cut it to 86-83 on 2 Jake Simmons free throws with 23 seconds to go. Bengals foul on the inbounds and Port hits 1 of 2 to make it 87-83. Jake misses a three point attempt and Kyheem green grabs the rebound and the Bengals foul Jordan Major. He makes them both for an 89-83 edge and bengals misfire on 1 last attempt. Final score 89-83.

John Ivy with 25 points to lead Brockport. Kyheem Green with 18 and Donnell jackson with 15. Jake Simmons with a valiant effort for the Bengals leads all scorers with 30 points. Nico McLean tosses in 16, while Roderick Epps and Ahmed Nagaya both finish with 13. Senior Norman Simmons in what is probably his last game in a Bengal uniform finishes with a double digit effort of 11 points with 5 rebounds and 5 assists.

Oswego will now take on Brockport if Geneseo beats Fredonia and Cortland will take on Geneseo.

If Fredonia wins then Oswego will play the Blue Devils and Cortland will get Brockport.
