I have to believe he was under consideration by you guys until the eligibility issue came up.

Yes. Otherwise I would not have found out about it because I wouldn't have asked. :)

Thanks Pat, I appreciate the response. That's why I thought he was under consideration. Didn't know how else you would have known about the eligibility issue.

Yeah. It would either be for preseason All-American or preseason Top 25 that I would go out and make an inquiry like that.

Who else does Buffalo State have Besides Jake Simmons

Well let me answer that question for you dcahill! And by the way..welcome to the D3hoops and the SUNYAC boards!

Returning with Jake this year. Is 6'4" Sophomore Roderick Epps. Last season he was 2nd on the team in 3pt field goals (behind Jake Simmons Conference leading 3.67 made per game). Rod has worked hard during the off season and his ability to get his shot off in traffic, and or attack the basket, reminds some folks at Buffalo State of Chris Cartwright. Chris teamed with Jake in 10-11 to form 1 of the toughest backcourts in Sunyac history (both made 1st team ALL-SUNYAC that season, along with a NCAA "sweet 16" appearance).

Also returning is Senior - Seth Runge. At 6'8" 260 lbs,  Seth is the "Anchor" of the BENGALS defense. This kid is in the best shape of his college career and is running the floor like Coach Ansari had hoped he would when he first arrived at Buffalo State. There is not a kid on this team that has worked harder during the off-season than Seth and I feel that his efforts will be rewarded.

The other returning senior is Anthony "Ant" Hamer. He will usually be the smallest player on the court unless you measure heart! Then he gets considerably bigger. He will be the BENGALS floor general this season and the BENGAL faithful feel that his 3 years of playing behind Norm Simmons has prepared him well for taking the leadership role that Coach Ansari has entrusted him with.

The next returnee is Sophomore 6'7" Anyar Majak. The shot blocking phenom from Jefferson high school, Rochester Ny, has shown that he is ready to assume his rightfull place in the BENGALS starting line-up. Last year he was hot and cold. A Double Double against Houghton and then 2 pts 3 boards in the next game. This season do not expect him to be anything but consistent.

Also returning is Soph Maurice Miles. This 6'4" swingman can play anything from the 1 to the 4. And expect him to play them all. The same should be said for Chris Castren, a junior from Voorheesville, Ny. Last year a damaged shoulder ended his season in Feb. A deadly outside shooter who is 1 of the most respectful young men that you could ever meet off the court. But don't let his smile fool you!

He is joined by newcomers Ryan Carney, a  J.C. transfer that should be the 1st team E 8 wide reciever (when that team is announced) is an athletic 6'4" wing from Olean High School, that can do anything that is asked of him. Also new this year is Bradley Doyley. A cat quick point guard that will be called upon to spell Hamer. Peter Murphy, another Big from Lehman HS in the Bronx, should also compete immediatly for playing time.

The rest of the roster is freshman and a transfer (remember "Chops" magicman) that will learn the BENGAL ways early when the BENGALS begin a "killer" non-conference schedule that includes game vs. 3 NCAA particapants from last year - Medaille, Eastern Conn and Hobart. AND 2 other teams, Coe College and Nazareth, that lost their conference Championships! There is not another team in the East, or probably the nation (correct me if I'm wrong magic/Pat)  that can boast a harder non-conference D3 schedule! Those are the D3 non-conference games on the BENGALS schedule this year. A combined record of 109 wins and 32 loses ( Coe 19-8, Eastern Conn 24-6, Medaille 25-3, Nazareth 18-9 and Hobart 23-6). An average of 21 plus wins for these 5 teams last season. BENGALS newcomers better be ready to learn quick!

Oh..And last but certainly not least...there is Jake Simmons (remind me magicman to never tell you anything again  :-X :-[ >:( ). He is officially a member of this years team. To be honest it should have never been an issue but......! dcahill...jake will be the only 3 time ALL SUNYAC player on any gym floor this year. SUNYAC - Rookie of the year in 09-10 when  he was 3rd in scoring, 1st in 3 pt fg made and 1st in steals as a FRESHMAN!!. Followed that in his sophomore year with - 1st team All SUNYAC in 10-11 - 2nd in scoring, 5th in 3 pt fg made and 1st in steals and again last year he was 1st team All SUNYAC  again while being  the 2nd leading scorer in Sunyac along with 1st in 3 pt fg made, 3rd in steals AND 1st in Ft %. Dcahil..now you may understand why magicman posed his question earlier his week AND why Pat Coleman did his due diligence to find out why Jake wasn't recommended by his S.I.D. for any pre-season honors. Jake is less than 150 pts from breaking the all-time Buffalo State scoring record which is currently held by former NBA all-star and Iron Man RANDY SMITH! Jake has 1,565 pts and Randy has 1,712. Sometime between their Miami trip (vs Eastern Conn and Coe) and their visit to Cortland/Oswego I expect that record to be broken!

And... as good a player as Jake is , he is even a better person (ask magicman).

This time tommorrow the roster and photos and all that good stuff should be up on the BENGALS website (love those orange jerseys). The 'Yac is 1 of the toughest conferences in the country and there are a ton of loaded teams in the conf (See Postdam, Plattsburgh, Cortland, Oswego, Brockport...you get the picture) this season. Dcahill. not sure what team you live near but be sure you catch some of the best basketball that the NCAA offers. I hope I answered your question!

  And magicman..I'll deal with you 12/8! ;) ;D

1. Read your PM's

Ethelred..advice is duly noted! :D (I will tread carefully ;))

My buddy magicman :) ;) :D ;D...... In regards to who has the tougher non-conference D3 schedule??  In the words of College football "great" Lee Corso... "Not so fast there young man"!

Lets look at the schedule of your beloved Cards.

1st game vs Sage college (10-15 last season). Did someone say cupcake?? :o

2nd game vs either York (18-9 last season & NCAA's) or Norwich (5-19 last season). Potential championship game looks good but... :-\

3rd game is a good 1 vs. Middlebury college (26-4) :D  No argument there. I'll be pulling for you guys (as always when you play your new Engalnd rival). Note : After 3 games my beloved BENGALS will have played 3 team with winning records.

4th game vs. St. Lawrence (14-11 last season???) :o

5th game vs Keene St ( 19-8 and from a very tough conf - Little East) :)

6th game vs. Franklin and Marshall (18-8 and a "Elite 8" participant)..getting better magicman :D

7th game could be either Salisbury (12-13) ::) or Eastern Conn (24-6 which we discussed in an earlier post) ;)

7 games vs a potential list of 9 teams with a combined record of 146-93??? :o And if I "give" you the championship matchup vs. York (Cardinal Classic) and Eastern Conn (Sponagle tourney) and get rid of Norwich and Salisbury's record, then it's still 7 games vs. teams with a combined 129 wins and 61 losses (an avg of 18 wins and almost 9 losses?) ??? My math may be a lil off (I was  Sociology major :-[) but that pales in comaprison to 109-32 (an average of 21 wins and 6 losses).I guess thats why the play the games though.

You were "almost" right on with postseason predictions (or as you say ..your "Wish list"). I do agree that seeing multiple "yac teams in the postseason is my hope also. I just envision a different team winning the "Yac championship game :D.

And yea I got your p.m but if I don't bust your chops....then who will??? (although Ethelred may be good for a dig or 2 every now and then!) ;)

Opening games tonight:

Cortland at Elmira. 8:00 PM         I have to believe the Red Dragons win this one by a large margin.

Fredonia at Hilbert 8:00 PM          Think the Blue Devils will prevail in a fairly close game.

magicman

Elmira trying for the upset as they lead the Red Dragons 29-25 at the half.

magicman

Not sure what's going on with the Fredonia State-Hilbert game. No video, no live stats. SUNYAC page says that Fredonia doesn't play today. Hilbert schedule, Fredonia schedule and St John Fisher schedule all show Fredonia playing Hilbert tonight, Fredonia playing Fisher tomorrow night and Hilbert playing Fisher on Saturday at 1 PM. I'm guessing that the YAC site is wrong as it shows Fredonia playing on the 16th and 17th. Video link on the Fredonia site for tonight doesn't bring up the game. I'm confused. :o :P

Elmira is looking to stun the Red Dragons from Cortland this would be a big upset to start the Season
