The Cards do hold the tiebreaker over the Bengals though. ;D

Well we'll see what we can do about that on the 25th!! ;)

As far as the "Wacky 'Yac"... I must admit that I was surprised by yesterdays results, especially Oneonta over Oswego. Least surprising was the Brockport game. Brockport picked up a kid (Caruthers) 2 weeks ago, who was playing D-1 ball last month for Oklahoma Panhandle (where he was 2nd on the team in assists). Plus they were on a 4 game win streak before last nights victory. I had said earlier that they were fast and athletic and on thier home court...anything is possible! 5 of thier 6 wins have been at home so far! Unlike most teams who play in front of sparse crowds during the winter break, Brockport has a pretty steady fan base since 6 of their stars players are all from the Rochester area. They had 400 plus in attendance last night which almost equals the combined totals of the New Paltz (210) and Oneonta crowds (208). Their victory was probably the least surprising. And they are gonna win some more!! Beware Potsdam and plattsburgh (this weekends opponents!!

The Cortland/New Paltz game looks like it just came down to shooting and free throws. N. Paltz went 16 of 20 from the stripe while Cortland was 14 of 21. Coupled with a miserable shooting where they shot 35% (24-68) from the field (27.6 from beyond the arc), compared to N. Paltz's 48.1 (26-54) and 37.5 from beyond the arc (9-24). Cortlands shooting resembled the shooting of a recent foe of theirs, Ursinus, who shot 33.3% from the field and 25% from beyond the arc. I doubt either team will have that bad night again. Something tells me that the rematch on Feb. 12th could be a barn burner.

As far as the Oneonta game ...it looks like an equally bad shooting night for Oswego. 39.3 (22-56) from the field  and 20% (3 of 15) from beyond the arc :o??? Say no more.

As I said before 3 losses may get you home court for the 'Yac playoffs. Nothing bad about a tough league. Makes you stronger for the playoffs. Steal sharpens steal..butter doesn't sharpen anything! We owned the E8 and L. L. so I'll take 'Yac play in East any day of the week. Always have and always will!

Now I'm gonna run up to Buff State and see if our guys are working on thier shot!!!

Actually Oklahoma Panhandle is a D-II school, 4-10 on the season, Massey rating (1175) lower than Brockport's (1002).

Potsdam guard Mark Lake Jr. is also a D-II transfer from St. Joes of Indiana, which is actually ranked (1018) slightly above Oklahoma panhandle.

after seeing upsets all over the place in the SUNYAC. This conference in my opinion wide open with Oswego, Cortland, Buffalo State, Geneseo, Plattsburgh. Sunyac looks so far to have the best Conference in New York State. Oswego, Cortland, Buffalo State depending on who wins the SUNYAC and other leagues possibly could receive an At Large Bid. That loss to Oneonta last night Could hurt Oswego if they dont win their League to get into the NCAA tournament. There is a ton of good teams in the East this year Especially in the Empire 8 and SUNYAC. Cortland, Buffalo State and Oswego State I think are the 3 front runners in this conference with Geneseo and Plattsburgh not to far behind.

I certainly agree with your first statement there "best Conference". I'll let Magicman deal with your 2nd statement about  "the Empire 8". It's definitly gonna be a whirlwind of a season in SUNYAC!

I had asked you a couple of weeks ago if you were gonna be at the Cortland/Buff State game this Friday?! I'm thinking about making that run myself. Not sure if you saw that earlier or not.

Big weekend in the SUNYAC as the top teams in the conference face off against each other in at least 4 games.

Friday Night's Action.  All games start at 8:00 PM.

Fredonia State at Oswego State

Oswego is smarting after a loss to last place Oneonta on Tuesday. Don't think the Lakers will drop 2 in a row. Fredonia hasn't beat the Lakers in nearly 3 years and will be hard pressed to do so tonight. Point spread has the Lakers favored by 16 points. Blue Devils getting beat by double digits on the road, should be more of the same tonight. Oswego wins 80-62.

Potsdam State at Brockport State

Brockport after starting the season 2-4 has now reeled off 5 wins in a row. Geneseo was the only quality team they beat in those 5 games however but still they are a team that's been improving. Potsdam has also been improving as they stand at 4-6 for the year and are coming off a split of 2 road games last weekend. The Bears hung with #7 Ramapo for 30 plus minutes before finally losing 94-80. They were only down 3 with 10 mnutes left to play. Oddsmakers have made the Golden Eagles a 9 point favorite in this one. Bears haven't won in Brockport in at least 7 years and the Eagles have won 3 of the past 4 meetings. Bears will hang with them but eventually fall to the Eagles 84-73.

Buffalo State at Cortland State

This is a huge matchup because the winner of this game may need a tiebreaker at the end of the year to secure a higher seed. Cortland coming off a big loss at New Paltz. That makes this game almost a must win for the Red Dragons or they will fall 2 games behind 2 teams. Buffalo State with a chance to come out of this weekend in sole possession of the conference lead. Also a chance to come out of this weekend in 7th place. Point spread favors the Red Dragons by 8 points. I think that's too many. I see the home team, Red Dragons, winning this track meet but in a close one 89-85.

Plattsburgh State at Geneseo State

Two of the three teams tied for the lead in the YAC making this one the game of the night. Plattsburgh coming into this game off 2 losses to start the 2nd half of the year. The Cardinals have played the toughest schedule in the SUNYAC this season with their opponents having a winning percentage of nearly 70%. Blue Knights with a loss at Brockport on Tuesday to fall from the unbeaten conference ranks. These teams have taken turns sweeping each other for the past 4 years. Geneseo swept the Cards last year. I'm hoping it's the Cardinals turn this year. Point spread has the Blue Knights favored by 4 points. Both these teams are deep as they each have 10 players with double digit minutes per game. They don't rely on a couple of dominant scorers but have a number of players who can beat you on any given night. I'm going to buck the odds here and go against the home team trend. I'll take my underdog Cards to pull off the upset 72-69.

Geneseo leads Plattsburgh 37-26 at the half.

Looks like the Cardinals are getting shafted by the refs. Lots of questionable calls in this game. No live stats... very poor video as the game is constantly interupted by advertisements right in the middle of play. Cards trailed at one time by 18 at 34-16 but have fought back to narrow the gap to an 11 point deficit.

Live stats are showing a first period score from the women's game.

magicman

Potsdam leads Brockport 34-33 at the half.

This game advertised live video but that's not happening. Live stats showed the women's final score for at least half of the men's first period. Finally brought up the men's live stats with about 9 minutes to go. Curtis Pierce leads the Bears with 11 points. Rob Duquette with 6. Lance Legister leads Port with 10 points. Newcomer Brandon Caruthers with 7.

magicman

Oswego with a 40-24 lead over Fredonia at the break.

Kyle Covley leads the Lakers with 14 points. Hayden Ward is next with 6. John Kovach keads the Blue Devils with 6 points and Zach Edwards has 5.

magicman

Cortland leads Buffalo State 54-38 at the half.

Jesse Winter with 17, 7x9 from the field. Brian Manning with 9, Kevin McMahon with 8 and Jeremy Smith with 7.

Rod Epps with 12 tops the Bengals. Anthony Hamer with 7 and Jake Simmons with 6.

magicman

Geneseo leads Plattsburgh 55-52 with 4:53 left to play.

Oswego 61 Fredonia 39 with 6:10 left to play

Cortland 79 Buffalo State 60 with 8:57 to go

Brockoort 62 Potsdam 57 with 8:44 to go.

thebear

Rochester refs at work in the Potsdam - Brockport game as well.  Bears draw within 1 at 65-64, then refs call a personal on Potsdam, followed by a technical.  Eagles make 3-4 from the line and then a layup on the retained possession to extend to 70-64.

Hard to play 5 on 7.

Guess the T got the Bears focused, they have drawn within 1, 71-72 with 1:53 left.  Curtis Pierce leads Bears with 26, Mark lake has 19.  Brandon Carruthers has 18 to lead Eagles, followed by B. Bell with 16.
