LOL - true true.

And a heads up - while I am at Oswego, I will do a sit-down interview with Coach Leone to air on Monday's Hoopsville.

Way to combine work with pleasure. ;D  I'll be sure to tune in.

Plus k to Ethelred for the Oswego joke. ;D

The entire trip is actually work - the pleasure will be catching a basketball game or two that I wouldn't normally get to :).

In-laws born, raised and schooled there.  Wife graduated in 1977 and daughter in 09.  My first trips were in the winter of 74 in a car I bought in Alabama - not really ready for an Oswego winter.  One time, late at night, I had just gotten north of Fulton when my lights stopped working.  A full moon and more luck than I deserved got me to Oswego where she just gave up the ghost as I coasted to the foot of West Bridge Street.  Ah.....good times.....

I played on the tennis team for Potsdam State and we had a match at Oswego. It was the spring of 1966, late April-early May. The wind was whipping off the lake so strong that day that when you threw the ball up to serve the wind would carry it about 8 to 10 feet away from you. After about 10 minutes of fighting mother nature the Oswego State coach made arrangements to play the matches indoors in the field house. It was and still is the only time I've ever played tennis indoors.

Plattsburgh's game tonight was the 1st of 5 straight conference road games, (who makes up these crazy schedules?), a brutal stretch before they finish with 5 straight home games.
Potsdam falls to 3-6 in conference play (7-9 overall) and stays in sole possession of 8th place. They will follow their travel partner, Plattsburgh, to the western part of the state to face the same two team this weekend.

I can 1 up you Magic in the "crazy schedules" department out of the Little East.  14 conference games, 2 each against the other 7 teams 1 home, 1 away the usual blah, blah, blah.  Anyways, UMass-Boston started the season with 4 straight road games and 5 of their first 6 LEC games were on the road, and they end the season with 2 straight road games.  In between the two, they have 6 straight at home which their in the middle of right now.

Two of UMass-Boston's first games on the road were at the Hoopsville National Invitational Classic ;)

F&M is wrapping up a stretch where they played 6 of 7 games on the road - 5 of 6 were in the conference.

Ok.....Rochester is in the middle of playing 6 of 8 on the road with the road games in Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Boston, NY, Chicago and St. Louis.  As much as I like this UofR team, it's hard to imagine completing this stretch undefeated.

That road stretch was for conference play only.  First 4 LEC games and 5 of first 6 LEC games were on the road, final 2 LEC games are on the road, the remaining 6 in between are all at home.  They just played Tufts on the road last night (their final OOC games of the season) which is their last road game until February 12.

Four games tonight in SUNYAC play all starting at 8:00 PM. Here's my picks for this evening:

New Paltz State at Geneseo State

First place Blue Knights host a Hawks team that's slowly slip slidin away. Three straight conference losses have seen the Hawks go from a 2nd place tie to a 6th place tie and in danger of missing the playoffs. Geneseo thumped the Hawks in New Paltz earlier in December, have now won 4 straight in the series, and 9 of the last 12. Geneseo has Cortland and Plattsburgh close on their heels with all three teams tied in the loss column. Blue Knights, 1 up in the win column will look to stay that way tonight. Point spread has Geneseo favored by 10 and the Hawks are playing better than they were in December when they lost by 21. I think they'll keep it closer this time around but still come out on the short end. Geneseo 85 New Paltz 76.

Potsdam State at Fredonia State

The Bears are trying to get back into the race but loss to Plattsburgh on Tuesday prevented them from moving into a playoff position. Another loss here could be devastating. Fredonia is tied for last place at 1-8 and would need a big reversal of fortune to have any hope of making the playoffs. Early line had the Bears favored by 2 but the oddsmakers have now got the Blue Devils listed as a 1 point choice. Bears won the first go around 78-54 in Potsdam back in December, but Fredonia leads the series 7-3 in the last 10 meetings. Bears have won 2 of their last 3 conference games while the Blue Devils have lost 7 straight. Potsdam big man Rob Duquette still questionable and jas been out for 3 straight games with an ankle injury. May return tonight? Bears could sure use him to help their inside game. I think Curtis Pierce and Mark Lake will be too much for Fredonia to handle so i'll take the Bears to win this one 76-68.

Oneonta State at Brockport State

Brockport 3-3 in conference play at home but losses have been to top tier teams. They are coming off a big win against Buffalo State and I don't see them faltering here. Oneonta struggling to get wins but have managed to keep quite a few games fairly close. They won't give up that's for sure as evidenced by their win against Oswego. Golden Eagles can't afford to just show up like they did last year when Oneonta upset Brockport for 1 of their 2 conference wins..Oddsmakers have made Brockport a 14 point favorite in this one and the fast pace that the Eagles will throw at the Red Dragons could wear them out. Port leads this series 9-5 in recent years and I think they tack on another tonight. Brockport 83 Oneonta 68.

Plattsburgh State at Buffalo State

Huge game for both teams tonight. 2nd place Cardinals need to keep pace with Geneseo and Cortland, while the 6th place Bengals need to stay in a playoff position. Plattsburgh can actually move a half game in front of idle Cortland and into sole possession of 2nd place with a win. They could even take over sole possession of 1st place with a win and a Geneseo loss. Bengals are 1-4 in conference play since the start of the new year. They have their backs to the wall and will scratch and claw in hopes of getting their mojo back. These teams have split their past 14 meetings but the Bengals have had the better of it for the past 3 years with a 4-2 mark. Oddsmakers had an early line favoring the Bengals by 3 points but that line has tightened up and now the Bengals are just a 1 point favorite. So this looks to be anyone's game. Last year Jake Smith had a monstrous game in Buffalo against the Cardinals as he went off for 37 points and hit 9 three pointers. They won that game 110-68. The teams are much more evenly matched this year and Plattsburgh won the first meeting 93-85. Bengals big man, Anyar Majak, had 27 points in that game, as he was a dominant force inside. He's absent tonight however and I think that will be the deciding factor in the game. I'll take my Cardinals to pull out a rare win at the Sports Arena by a score of 88-82.

They had a nice run!! ;D

Buffalo State came back from a 31-14 deficit with 12 minutes to play on the period to finally catch the Cardinals at 48 on a 3 pointer by Jake Simmons with 55 seconds left. Cards went up 50-48 on 2 free throws by John Perez but the Bengals got a tip in by Leon Moise and then a steal by Simmons and a pass to Brad Doyley for a layup with 3 seconds left to take the lead for the first time in the game and go into the locker room on a pretty good high. I think my Cards may be in trouble.

Shamoy McIntosh led the Cards with 13 points followed by John Perez and Jordan Moody with 11 each. The Bengals were led by Brad Doyley with 10 points, Ryan Carney with 9 points, Rod Epps with 9, and Jake Simmons with 8.

Hey I just got a shout out at halftime on the Buffalo State video broadcast as they welcomed the magicman from the Music Shop in Plattsburgh NY to the broadcast. Well I feel honored. Thanks Guys.
