This story made me cry!

http://www.wgrz.com/rss/article/202771/37/Rising-Son-The-Story-of-Jake-Simmons

The NBC affliate in Buffalo did a special show on the life of Jake Simmons. The most heartfelt story that I've seen about a Div 3 college ball player...EVER!!!

He didn't make POY (Congrats to Hayden Ward)..In my opinion he should be the Div 3 POY. Or at the very least D3 All American.
Thanks Bengalsrule.  Transcends sport.  Amazing young man.

Bengals,

I feel your pain, but Manning was such a classic pass first point guard, and disruptor on defense that he was going to get the nod as the linchpin of an NCAA team.  Same story for Jeremy Smith

Rod's 3pt % hurt him, and Sean Michele's reputation as a setup man over the last four years worked in his favor.

Magic is right, 'yac with 10 teams needs 3 + hon mention.

By my consolidated stat total, top regulars in order were based on all stats/40 minutes were:

Went to the Plattsburgh State practice tonight and ran into injured All Conference Player John Perez. He showed me xrays of his broken fibula and the large number of screws that were inserted into the bones to screw the pieces back together. Really feel bad that John has been relegated to being a cheerleader for the team rather than getting his chance in his 3rd year of the program to finally play in an NCAA game. He'll be back next year better than ever and all the Cards will be back next year and hopefully it will be the year of the Cardinal as this was the year of the Dragon. Plattsburgh getting excited about the big game this weekend. Hopefully we can get the W and then prepare for the Amherst Lord Jeffs. Going to be tough to take on the #2 team in the country in their house without our best player but I know the Cards won't quit and they certainly won't get outhustled. First things first though, and that's Husson University and taking care of the business at hand.

with age came?

Hey Magic - it depends on how deep the Cards go into the dance as to whose year it is!!   Right now there are 62 teams at 0 and 0! ;D

Plattsbrugh State will take on Husson University at 7:00 PM tonight.

Live video is available. Here's the link :http://www.nsnsports.net/plattsburgh

Live stats are also available. here's the link:  http://www.sidearmstats.com/plattsburgh/mbball/scoreboard.aspx

I think the Cardinals will pull out a win tonight against the Eagles as Husson also likes to play an up tempo type of game. They actually average more ppg than Plattsburgh does as they score 78.6 ppg and give up 70.8 ppg. The Cards are averaging 75.4 ppg and giving up 70.3 per contest. I expect a high scoring game but think the Cards will come away with an 83-75 win in this one to advance to the next round.

Cortland by 38-33 at intermission over Elms. Led by 11 with 6:06 left. Corts okay when J. White, J. Smith and B. Manning the principal characters. Offense a bit stale otherwise. Dragons shooting 13x30 and 5x14 3s. Winter 14 pts(4x5fg, 2x2 3s), Smith 8 pts. Elms relies bigtime on backcourter A. French. Has 13 pts from distances. D. McDaniel 11 pts. Elms 11x32fg, 5x12 3s

Had to run up to Plattsburgh State and buy my ticket for the game tonight. You couldn't buy a ticket for the game all week long as they didn't go on sale until 5:00 PM this afternoon for the game which starts at 7 PM. I was the first one in line but it looks like they're going fast as a big crowd had formed.

Didn't realize that the Cortland game started early. I was going to come back and predict the Red Dragons would win this one and I thought the score might be something like 79-66. I think the Red Dragons have too much firepower for the Blazers.

Looks like the Red Dragons are  heading to Middlebury!!  Congrats!! :)

Hopefully the Cardinals can make it 2 for 2 for the "Yac tonite. Glad to see Magicman back in full health. I couldn't perussis, bronchitis, or any "Itis" stopping the Magic 1 from being in attendance tonite!! ;)

Cortland takes charge over the final 20 minutes, as has been its M.O. aplenty this season. Quickly expand on 38-33 halftime lead and cruise. L. Herron supplies big pickup and winds up with 20 pts on 8x10 shooting from the field, 2x3 3s and 7 rebounds. Corts click at 50 percent shooting overall, make 12x27 3s, 21x25 free throws with a mere 8 turnovers. J. Winter with 19 pts(5x9fg, 3x6 3s), 5 assts, 3 rebs; J. Smith 15 pts(4x9fg, 3x6 3s), 5 rebs; K. McMahon 11 pts, 7 rebs; B. Manning 8 pts(3x7fg, 2x5 3s), 5 rebs. Elms 23x65fg, 6x20 3s, 7x12fts, 11 TOvers. A. French 16 pts(6x17fg, 3x9 3s); K. Lockett 16 pts(7x11fg); D. McDaniel 13 pts, 8 rebs. Blazers conclude 18-10 campaign.

RDragons move on, probably against Middlebury and no doubt on the road. Cortland 13-0 at 'The Pete.' Going to defer to F. Elia on the best home floor records for C-St. Know the crack '99-00 outfit won its first 13 as hosts, then fell in the nat'l tourney at home. We recall (maybe) that during Coach Span's senior playing season of '82-83 the Corey slate may have been clean. Am sure Fran can fill in the blanks when time permits ...........a busy, busy man this weekend -- big gymnastics meet in Corey, No. 1 ranked laxmen win big, and baseball sweeps at Myrtle Beach, etc, etc.

Plattsburgh State makes it 2 for 2 for the SUNYAC as they defeat Husson University 84-63. I predicted an 83-75 Cardinal win and I just missed with the Cards total. Husson wasn't as effective from the field as they only hit 21of 57 for a 36.8% rate which left them a little short of what I thought they might score. Happy that my Cards moved on but their next opponent will be #2 Amherst and the Cards will need all the magic the magicman can whip up if we hope to get a W in that game.

Plattsburgh State grabbed the early lead in this game and opened up a 17-8 lead after the first 8 minutes of play. They graduallly extended the margin until they led by 12 at 27-15 and again at 29 -17 with 7 minutes to play in the half. Husson would cut into that lead and had it down to a 31-25 score but the Cards ended the half on a 10-0 run that was fueled by a 3 point jumper and a 2 point jumper by Shamoy McIntosh followed by another 3 pointer by Kalik Parker and a 2 point putback by Gary Tibbs to go into the locker room up 41-25.

The Cards saw the Eagles cut into the lead once again at the start of the 2nd half and get it back to single digits at 46-37 with 4:30 gone in the period. Each time however the Cardinals would respond with another burst of their own. Back to back Reggie Williams buckets were followed by another McIntosh jumper and an Ezra Hodgson 3 pointer and layup to build it back to a 57-40 advantage with 12:57 left to play. Another Parker 3 pointer shortly after gave the Cards their largest lead to that point of 63-44 with 10 minutes remaining. Husson made one final push to make it a game as they scored 9 straight points to cut it to a 63-53 lead but a 12-6 Plattsburgh spurt pushed the lead back to 16 with 4 minutes left and it was clear that the Cardinals would not be denied on this night.

Once again the Cardinals' depth was the difference maker as 6 players had double figures. Ezra Hodson was the game's high scorer with 15 points going 6x7 from the field and 3x3 from behind the arc. He also added 4 rebounds. Jordan Moody just kept getting to the rim with spectacular drives and a variety of spin moves that left him with 13 points and 6 rebounds. Chris Manning, the nation's leader in steals, showed why as he got 4 more thefts tonight. He also showed why he is nationally ranked in the assist category as he had 7 great feeds to go along with his 11 points (4x5 fg,1x1 3's, 2x6 ft) and team leading 7 rebounds. Shamoy McIntosh also had 11 points on 4x6 shooting from the field (1x1 3's, 2x3 ft). Shamoy had 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 blocks, and 3 steals as well. Reggie Williams continued his stellar play as a starter since John Perez was injured as the big guy once again hit for 10 points on 5x8 from the field. he grabbed 3 rebounds and had a block, an asssist and a steal but was only able to play 13 minutes due to foul trouble while guarding the Eagles 6'10" Marc Zaharchuk. Kalik Parker came off the bench and hit 3x6 from downtown to score 10 points, along with 4 rebounds. Alan Siergiej who doesn't see a lot of court time came in because of the foul trouble to the Card's other bigs and gave Plattsburgh 5 or 6 great minutes where he scored 4 points and kept the ball in play on the offensive end. He did some things that don't show up in the box score but were instrumental in Plattsburgh maintaining a solid lead near the end of the first period. Nice to see in a game of this importance.

The Cardinals shot 32x58 from the field (55.2%) . They were 9x19 from long range (47.4%) and 11x22 from the line (50%). They outrebounded the Eagles 39-35 and had 17 turnovers to 18 for the Eagles.

Husson was led by Eric Modica with 13 points (4x10 fg, 1x2 3's, 4x5 ft). Marc Zaharchuk had 12 points (5x14 fg, 0x1 3's, 2x6 ft) and 7 rebounds. Wes Murphy had 11 points (4x11 fg, 2x8 3's, 1x2 ft). The Eagles didn't shoot well as I mentioned, only hitting 21x57 from the field. They were only 4x18 from behind the arc (22.2%) and 17x26 from the line. Husson ends their season with a 20-9 record.

I must comment on the officiating crew that was brought in for tonight's game. They were 3 pretty bad referees. I'm told that 2 might have come from the Buffalo area and 1 from Syracuse, but they need to learn the difference between a block and a charge as they made the wrong call on at least 6 different occasions. They were equally bad for both teams but the poor coaches were clearly getting frustrated at having to watch one blown call after another. At one point the fans were booing the officials as loudly as I've ever heard in a game. I watched several high school games last night in our local sectionals and the 6 guys that reffed those 2 games were superior to the college officials that the NCAA brought in for this game by a long shot. I won't post their names here but you can find their names in the box score. Hope that you never see them at one of your games.

Plattsburgh improves to 20-8 on the season. Quite a turnaround from the 8-18 record this team posted last year.

Congrats to Dragons, nice to see 2 'yacs in round of 32, albeit with tough draws at the next level.

I'll check the books, but in '82-83 Bears won the 'yac title, and the East Regionals, then lost by a point at eventual champion Scranton in the Elite 8.  Fine squad with folks like Leroy Witherspoon, (2 x DIII Player of the Year), Pony Bullock etc.  Perhaps dragons beat bears at the "Pete", but lost at least two possibly  three other matches (@Potsdam, SUNYACS, possibly REGIONALS).

FYI - Don't be surprised if Middlebury comes to Cortland - Middlebury was #5 in the regional rankings, or there abouts... Cortland was #2. However, the committee does look at all the numbers as well... so we shall see.

That would be great D'Mac. Hopefully Cortland and Plattsburgh keep winning. They wouldn't have to face each other until March 23rd...the Semi's!! ;)
