Cortland defeats Potsdam State 78-53 by outscoring the Bears 29-8 over the last 10 minutes of the game to pull away from a 4 point lead and win going away. LAmard Herron with 34 points for Cortland. TJ Hefele with 15. Bears led by Josh Blagrove with 10 points.

Oswego leads Plattsburgh 65-62 with 2 minutes to go.

Brockport looks like they havent missed a beat since last year. I'm surprised that Brandon carruthers name was not mentioned in Magics report ( must have scored less than 6)?. Here's hoping that they run the table tommorrow against whomever and that Geneseo wins again!

New Paltz defeats Fredonia by a 72-67 score.

Nick Taldi led the Hawks with 15 points and Zach Cone-Douglas added 10 points.

The Blue Devils got 30 points from Tyrone Clark (10x 19 fg, 4x11 3's, 6x7 ft). He had 6 boards, 2 assists, 3 blocks and 5 steals. No other Blue Devil hit double figures. John Kovach had 10 rebounds and 6 points.

Oswego holds off the Plattsburgh State Cardinals and comes away with a 73-70 win. The last 2 minutes took at least 20 minutes to play. Heck the last 50 seconds took 10 minutes to play. Good hard fought game but the Cardinals certainly left a lot of their game on the bus. Kyle Covely's 3 pointer with 1:20 to play and the Lakers clinging to a 65-62 lead was the key basket of the game. It gave them a 6 point lead and despite an off balance 3 by Jordan Moody with 3 seconds left it was too much to overcome. The Cardinals didn't help themselves by going 3 for 7 from the line in the last 1:06. Moody's 3 pointer made it a 71-70 score and the Cardinals fouled on the inbound pass. Brian Sortino made both free throws to build the lead back to three points and Plattsburgh's desparation shot at the buzzer was no good and too late.

Sortino led all scorers with 24 points while shooting 7x13 from the field and 10x13 from the line. Daniel Ross added 18 points and 5 rebounds.

Shavar Fields once again came off the bench to lead the Cardinals with 17 points on 6x12 shooting and 5x8 from the line. Jordan Moody with 16 points, Shamoy McIntosh with 14 points and Ed Correa with 10 points were the other top scorers. John Perez had his streak of double doubles end at 4 as he was limited to just 5 points. He did grab 11 rebounds to lead everyone in that category.

Oswego wil go for the North Country sweep tomorrow as they face Potsdam at 4 PM while the cardinals take on Cortland in a rematch of last year's championship game, also at 4 PM.

5-1 with my picks tonight but would gladly exchange that for a 1-5 record if my 1 loss was a win. :(

Correctly picked Geneseo to win by double digits even though RIT was favored.

Had the exact margin of victory in the New Paltz-Fredonia game of 5 points. I had it 74-69...it was 72-67

Also pretty close with my Cortland pick. I had it 76-58....actual was 78-53. My totsl was just 3 points off.

Brockport win and Buffalo State win were both expected but not by the margins of victory

Actually was very close to the actual score in my 1 loss as I had Plattsburgh winning 78-70 Actual score was 73-70 with the Lakers of course on top.

I predict that Buffalo state will be tied with Oswego State for first place in the conference after tomorrow's games. 4 teams will be 1-1 Cortland, Plattsburgh, Oneonta and New Paltz. 2 teams will be 0-2, Potsdam and Fredonia. Brockport will hopefully win the Wendy's Classic and Geneseo will win their game against Hobart.

Haha...Magic...some of us have to do a thing called 'real work'!  ;)

No doubt it's been a tough stretch for the Hawks...Sowah was out last Tuesday vs. Eastern Conn because I believe he was a little banged up after the game vs. Mount St Mary's...guess Coach Rejniak wanted rest him before conference play.

Hope we show up this afternoon but Mitchell has been a force...must be fun to have a scorer Bengals!...

Hawks need to put the ball in the bucket...they've had as many looks on offense as their opponents but their shooting % is not good. They're young and need to learn to execute under pressure.

Anyway...go Hawks!

very surprised Brockport hasnt struggled with these new fouls rules. Many sources say Ivy couldve been fouled out in the first half. we will see how it plays out later in the season

dcahill44

Very impressed with Brockport though.. they look very good! SUNYAC looks tremendous this year. Oswego, Plattsburgh, Geneseo, Brockport, Buff State. Wouldn't be surprised if any of these teams win the league this year

Hey look there is a SUNY College in the D 3  top 25 and they beat one of the top SUNYAC schools.  Interesting to see how this will pan out.  If I were in charge of this conference I would be looking to add Purchase.  Year in and year out they at the top of their conference.  As the game against Brockport shows they can play with the other SUNY colleges, unlike my beloved Bears.
Looks like another long winter in the north country.  Well at least there is Canton on the schedule so that we don't go 0 for the season.  If Potsdam could figure out how to change the game to a 30 minute game our record would be greatly improved.  Then they play the last 10 minutes like they are on their last breath.  I believe when I was a younger lad it was called conditioning.

Welcome back my friend to the show that never ends. ;D

Good to see you're still tuning in once in a while.  I realize you may have to work and can't put in the time some of us do but we would like to hear from you at least a couple of times  a week. ???

Hawks are young. Loss of Deveino McRae hurt big time. Will he be back next semester?

"Banged up"..."rest him"? If that's the case then hats off to Rejniak. With 8 days between games Mt St Marys 11/26- Eastern Conn 12/3 he needs to still "rests a player" for SUNYAC play?! I wish we had that luxury.

Here's to hoping that after playing 30 minutes vs. Fredonia yesterday he is taking some much needed "rest" today! ;)

Ps Hawkbill...Welcome back to the boards. I must admit though. Some of my best D3hoops stuff/writings comes while I'm at work! ;D

Time to do some more crystal ball gazing.

Saturday December 7th All ten teams in action again.

Geneseo State  vs    Hobart      3:00 PM
Wendy's College Classic @ St. John Fisher @ Rochester, N.Y.   5th place game

Tough game to predict but I'm rooting for the Blue Knights. Point spread favors the Statesmen by a 5 point margin. I'm picking Geneseo to win a barnburner 78-77.

Potsdam State   at   Oswego State      4:00 PM

Bears' woes likely to continue against the Lakers. Especially with no Duquette in the lineup for Potsdam. Bears have lost 10 straight games to Oswego and 7 of those were by double digit margins. Point spread has Oswego winning by 14. If the Lakers play as good as they did last night it will be more.  I'll go with an Oswego win here 77-57. Sure would like to see an upset here. I would certify it as a miracle if it happens. :o

New Paltz State   at  Buffalo State      4:00 PM

Hawks won the final matchup of these teams last spring which was a big factor in the Bengals lack of post season play. Bengals have won 3 of the past 4 meetings however and lead the series 8-5 over the past 7 years. Buffalo State has been averaging quite a few more ppg than the Hawks. New Paltz finally got more than 70 points last night for the first time in 5 games. They may score 70 points tonight but the Bengals will score in the 80's. Oddsmakers have the Bengals favored by 9 points. I think they win by more than that. I'll go with an 88-72 final.

Oneonta State  at   Fredonia State      4:00 PM

Oneonta only won 3 conference games last year. Fredonia won the same number. These teams took turns beating each other at home. I don't think the Blue Devils will win any more than 3 conference games this year and if they don't win tonight they may not win more than two. Oneonta has improved this year but will still struggle to make the playoffs. They are, however, a better team than Fredonia. I'm not sure they can win on the road, but I expect them to win 3 or 4  conference games at home. Oddsmakers think they can win this game as they have installed them as 5 point favorites. I'm a Zach Mager fan so I'll go with the Red Dragons to win 75-68.

Plattsburgh State  at  Cortland State      4:00 PM

For the 2nd day in a row the Cardinals are in the featured Game of the Day. Hard to say this is a must win for Plattsburgh when it's only the 2nd conference game of the year, but that's what I'm calling it, a must win. Falling 2 games behind so many teams right off the bat could prove fatal to the Cardinals' hopes to host the conference tournament in February. (Not to mention MY hopes ::))
Cortland has had the Cards number the past few years, winning 5 of the past 6 matchups. Cortland still undefeated on the year and looking to prove that they have reloaded after graduating so much talent. Oddsmakers have made the Red Dragons a 6 point favorite.  Last year I told Fran Elia, Cortland's SID, that this year my Cardinals would have their revenge. I hope that's the case today. Plattsburgh wins a close one 76-72.

Brockport State   at   Roberts Wesleyan      8:00 PM
Wendy's College Classic  Championship Game

Not much to go on here as Roberts Wesleyan isn't a D3 team. Nice wins over Nazareth and Rochester to get to the championship game however. First time that I can recall the Redhawks playing for the title in recent tournament history. Oddsmakers have favored the Golden Eagles by a 6 point margin and I, homer that I am, will also pick them to come away with the prize. I think the final score might be 79-71 Brockport.

magicman

Geneseo leading Hobart 46-28 at the half. Blue Knights were up 37-27 with 2:50 left in the period and go on a 9-1 run to end the half.

James McKenna leads Geneseo with 13 points. Connor Fedge has 11 and Matt Curry with 10.

Connor Rehbaum is the high man for Hobart with 9 points and Richie Bonney has 7.

Hope the Blue Knights don't repeat Wednesday's script where they gave up a double digit lead to Fisher and found themselves on the short end of the final score.

magicman

Cortland's Lamard Herron with a 3 pointer with 5 seconds left in the period to give the Red Dragons a 33-31 halftime lead. This game has been a battle from the outset with neither team able to gain much of a lead. Never more than 5 points separating these 2 clubs.

Mike Mitchell leads the Cardinals with 9 points on 3 x4 from downtown.  Seven other Plattsburgh players hit the scoring column with John Perez, Shamoy McIntosh and Shavar Fields with 4 each. McIntosh with 6 boards and Fields with 5.

Herron leads Cortland with 11 points with 2x3 from long range. Tyree Glascoe with 7, Kevin McMahon with 6 and Garen Spendjian with 5. McMahon and Matt McGowan with 4 boards each.

Lots of turnovers in the game with 11 by Plattsburgh and 8 by Cortland. Neither team scorching the nets either.

magicman

Buffalo State leads New Paltz 47-46 at the break.

Justin Mitchell with 15 and Rod Eppps with 8 for the Bengals.

Andrew Joseph with 12 and Taylor Sowah with 7 for the Hawks.

Surprising New Paltz giving the Bengals a run for their money.
