Once upon a time that school churned out a few good broadcasters. Clearly times have changed.  :-\

I'm thinking of this Guru guy I've heard about, as getting his feet wet at Catholic. ;D Nice to see you got my email about the SUNY-Cortland thing instead of Cortland State and made the changes on all the appropriate schedules.

Magicman,

If you picking against Cortland is all it takes for the Red Dragons to win, then keep picking against them!! :)

I was with you, by the way - I think I yelled at least 10 times at my computer screen: "pan the camera to the scoreboard!!" Trust me, I know about dealing with technical issues (we've had our video and/or live stats go down many times), but with no sound on the broadcast, I was hoping they'd at least show the scoreboard during timeouts. Interesting, too, that they seem to be using the media timeout format for the games (something we only did during the NCAA tournament last year, by NCAA rule, but not during the regular season).

Keep up the good work. Hope you're surviving our lovely Northeast winter so far.

Fran

But I hate to pick against my YAC teams, Fran, and you do know that I really believed  Cortland would win that game. Plus I'm not picking against them tomorrow so tell Coach Spanbauer the boys are on their own and I expect a win to make up for their 2nd Utica game.  1 down and 1 to go.  Gosh the SUNYAC has been collecting a lot of bling this year. Buffalo State, Brockport, Plattsburgh State, all tournament winners... even New Paltz was 2-0 on the west coast.  Course the Bengals couldn't win their own tournament :P. (I couldn't resist) ;D

I did. It had been input correctly but Catholic's SID felt it necessary to change the database yesterday rather than use the tools Presto provides to adjust a team's display.

Not just me, but the guy who followed me and now is calling LIU games ... he was pretty good, too. :)

Ahh, if it was only that easy, Fran. We'd have 4 teams going to the dance and all advancing to the Sweet 16 at least. ::)

I'm surviving, but barely. Between the snowstorms in early and mid-December, followed by the ice storm that hammered us on Dec. 21st, 22nd, and 23rd, it was really bad. Then the bitter cold comes this entire week which has left us with 20 below nights and 6 to 10 below days. (It did warm up a bit today and reached double digits) That just increased everything that was frozen and made all the snowbanks turn into piles of concrete basically. I'm driving my van down the road on the Monday before Christmas on my way to my store and a giant chunk of snow slides off of a snowbank and into the road just as I'm approaching. A car was in the lane next to me so I could only slow down as much as possible but hit this chunk and it took out my bumper. $1100.00 in damage. Fortunately my insurance company put the damage in as a comprehensive claim and I only had to pay $50.00 deductible, which my repairman will cover for me by discounting my bill. Business was affected just before Christmas with the ice storm and with this week's arctic blast, nobody's shopping unless it's for absolute necessities.

On the plus side there's 3 games next week starting with Middlebury on Tuesday.  I plan to travel over to Vermont and see that one. (Providing I'm not stuck all day in court with jury duty that was just foisted upon me) Then we host Geneseo and Brockport on the weekend. Three huge games for the Cardinals. That will lift my spirits out of these winter doldrums. Even if we don't win I know I'm going to see 3 very good games. And if we do win all three,  then I get to walk on air for the next week or so. 8-)

Good luck tomorrow. Hope you come home with more bling!!

That would explain it.  And I forgot I sent 2 emails. Was just surprised when I tried to click on SUNY-Cortland off the scoreboard and it reacted like it does when it's not a D3 school.

The LIU announcer and you, need to return to the old Alma Mater and give those young  whippersnappers a few pointers. I don't know about Fran but I'm surprised the camera operator in DC couldn't hear me from my office in Plattsburgh I was yelling so loud at him to show the scoreboard. It's a good thing we won after what he put us though. ::) That must have been Karma, good for us and bad for Catholic. ;)

FranElia

Pat, I e-mailed Catholic's SID last night and asked her to make the changes. Didn't know there was a way for her just to reconcile the names or I would have asked her to do that instead. She made the changes today, and she's been great with everything so far.

I assume no sound yesterday may be a result of it being a break between semesters. Understandable. Appears Misericordia will have radio coverage today, based on links on their web site, so I will try to listen while I'm watching.

Magicman, you got the bad end of the weather deal. Glad the car accident wasn't worse. We got about 12 inches of snow where I am in Central New York, but you got it worse.

Fran

Pat Coleman

Yeah -- you probably know you are "Cortland St." in the Presto database, but those with Presto sites have the option to customize a name to make it say whatever they like. (Cortland, SUNY Cortland, State University of New York at Cortland, Cortland State, Hated Cortaca Archrival, etc.)

If they change the database entry, though, it means the database no longer knows that Cortland State, NCAA RPI code 168, is playing in this game.

Only game in town today.

Misericordia  at  Cortland State  at Catholic University   4:00 PM

The Red Dragons have already defeated the toughest team in this tournament. If they fail to bring home the bling after taking down host Catholic yesterday, then it will be their inability to score from the perimeter that will be their downfall. Misericordia is a .500 team that hasn't won a game in their conference yet this year. They have a loss to  conference rival Manhanttanville  by a 73-63 score several weeks ago. That same Manhattenville team was soundly defeated by Hamilton 85-69, and Hamilton has already played 3 YAC teams, losing to Brockport and New Paltz, while barely winning against Oneonta. I think Cortland is a stronger team than Oneonta or New Paltz so that makes me believe that the Red Dragon can handle Misericordia.

Both teams look to use a 10 man rotation, however yesterday the Cougars really only went 7 deep and Cortland had 8 players with double digit minutes. Oddsmakers have the Red Dragons favored by 8 points. I think that's pretty close. I think that Cortland wins this game by a 72-66 final.  Go Red Dragons!!

Cortland on a basket by Matt McGowan with 41 seconds left in the 1st half, heads into the locker room with a 32-31 lead over Misericordia.

Red Dragons fall behind by double digits at 13-3,  6 minutes into the period. Still down by 10 at 17-7 with 12 minutes to go the Red Dragons start to creep closer. 4 straight points by Kevin McMahon made it 22-16 and then Brendan Ferguson and Lamard herron took over for Cortland. Ferguson swished a triple, Herron hit a pair of free throws, followed by his own 3 pointer and then Ferguson hit another jumper. Just like that the score was 26-22 Cortland and  the Cougars were forced to take a time out. They hit a pair of free throws after the TO but Herron did the same for Cortland. 5 straight points put the Cougars back in front 29-28 with 2:29 to play and the teams alternated baskets until the end of the period with Cortland getting in the last lick by McGowan

Herron with 12 points for Cortland to lead all scorers. McMahon with 10 points and 4 rebounds. Ferguson with 5 points and McGowan with 4.

Erik Kerns is high man for Misericordia and Matt Greene is next with 6 points. Steve Ware is the top rebounder in the game with 6 boards and 4 points.

Cortland with 7 turnovers, Cougars with 8. Corts up 16-11 in the rebounding battle.

Keep it up Red Dragons!

Well here we go again. Video with no sound and Live stats once again quit working with the score at 41 to 41. Just following the action and know that Cortland has 45 now 48 points Red Dragons hit another 3 pointer and force a time out. Hey they went to the scoredboard this time. Pat Coleman must have given those guys a call. ;D  Cortland leads 51-43 with 10:40 left to play.

Live stats on and off now. Cortland leads 56-48 with 7:58 left in the game Time out.

Cortland leading 60-52 with 4:43 left to go.

Corts up 62-54 with 3:04 to go.

Corts up 65-59 with 1:11 to go. Cougars just got a basket and a foul will go to the line to try and make it 65-60. Dragons will need to make some free throws down the stretch. 2 straight turnovers on their last two trips down. That doesn't help.

65-60 43 seconds to go Corts turned it over again. Cougars missed a 3 got the rebound took a time out. Missed another shot, ball went out of bounds off the Cougars, and the Red Dragon get fouled on the inbounds. Corts make both free throws to go up 67-60, Cougars turn it over,  this game is history.

Cortland wins the Catholic University Tournament by defeating Misericordia 69-62. pretty close to my prediction of a 72-66 Cortland victory.

Fran, I feel a lot better prediciting a Cortland win and having it happen, than predicting a loss and hoping that the team will prove me wrong. 8-)  I'm pleased that my thoughts of a month ago came to fruition. I  guess I will have to forgive the Red Dragons for the two Utica losses....well almost anyways ;D.

magicman

Well I had a nice write up all done about the Cortland game and hit the back button by mistake and it disappeared. There should be a way you can re-energize that post. Maybe I'll do it again when I get home. :( >:(
