I think you, my friend, are the one that's mixed up. ::) Where in that quote of mine that you copied and pasted, did I say that I deleted my post. ??? I stated... I hit the back button by mistake and it disappeared. I never even used the word deleted :P Just because one hits the back button shouldn't give the computer or the D3hoops website, the ability to erase what one has written. :o After all, if I pull up the Buffalo State Basketball website the front page appears.  If I then click on the  Roster link, up pops the picture and the players. When I hit the back button on purpose or by mistake the team doesn't disappear, so why should a post I've made out disappear? Think about that one. Someone needs to add a feature to computers  where everything you type is saved until you Wish to have it deleted. I'd buy one of those tomorrow. :D

Cortland 69 Misericordia 62

Congratulations RED DRAGONSS on coming home with the hardware from the Catholic Tournament

This game was close at the break and remained close in the early stages of the second half. The teams traded baskets for the first 5:47 of the period which resulted in 4 lead changes and 5 ties the last coming when Cortland's Matt McGowan made a layup to tie the score at 43. After a Cougar turnover, Kevin McMahon got another inside basket to give the Red Dragons a lead they wouldn't surrender. The next few minutes marked the turning point of the contest. In my pre-game write up I mentioned that the Cortland perimeter game was going to make the difference in the outcome. After each team had wasted several possessions, Cortland's Brendan Ferguson drained a 3 pointer. The Cougars missed on their next attempt and Garen Spendjian buried another triple, forcing the Misericordia coach to take a time out, with 11 minutes to play and the Red Dragons now up by a 51-43 margin.  Shortly after the time out Lamard Herron made another 3 pointer which gave Cortland the largest lead either team enjoyed all day at 54-43 with 9:29 remaining. The 13-0 run by Cortland created the necessary daylight and the Cougars never got closer than 5 points the rest of the way. When 2 Cougar free throws narrowed the gap to a 56-50 score,  Spendjian was johnny on the spot once again with another long range bomb to deflate the Cougar comeback attempt. Late in the game when the Cougars cut the margin to 65-60, TJ Hefele hit 4 of 6  free throws to close out the team from Dallas, Pennsylvania.

Cortland was led by Lamard Herron with 20 points (6x11 fg, 4x6 3's, 4x5 ft). Kevin McMahon added 17 points (8x2 fg, 0x1 3's, 1x3 ft), 6  rebounds and 3 blocks. Matt McGowan had a double double of 10 points (5x6 fg) and 10 rebounds. Red Dragons won the rebounding war 28 to 23, but lost the turnover battle 17-13. They shot much better today, hitting 52.2% of their field goal attempts (24x46). Cortland was also much improved from long range hitting at a 47.1 % clip (8x17). Those 2 stats are just what the doctor ordered as the Dragons have struggled with their shots in the last 4 games prior to this one. They were 13x20 from the line (65%)

Kevin McMahon was chosen as the MVP of the tournament and Lamard Herron joined him on the All Tournament Team. Misericordia's Steve Ware, Catholic's Steve Limberiou and Jerome Diggs of St. Joseph's (Maine) were the other 3 players named to the all-tournament team.

Cougars had 4 players in double figures led by Erik Kerns with 17 points and 6 rebounds. Joe Busacca, Matt Greene and Steve Ware all had 11 points each. Ware also recorded a double double grabbing a game high 11 rebounds. Cougars were better than the Cortland club from the charity stripe as they made 19x22 (86.4%) but couldn't keep up from the field and long range. They were 19x47 from the field (40.4%) and only 5x22 (22.7% from the 3 point line.

Cortland has now completed non-conference play, finishing that portion of their schedule with a 5-2 mark. Overall they stand at 6-3 (1-1 conference) and will return to action when they travel to New Paltz on Tuesday, before they host Buffalo State and Fredonia on the weekend. Looks like a 2-1 week for the fire breathers coming up.

NYHOOPS8

Cortland has been a tough team to figure out this year but their last two wins bode well for their prospects going forward.

NYHOOPS8

Maybe I'm being a NY homer but I would not be shocked at a Plattsburgh win tomorrow night. Middlebury's defense is very kind to opposing teams and Plattsburgh's backcourt could provide fits for them.

In the National Pick Em League which I belong to, it was my week to make out the 10 game schedule that the players have to pick the winners of. The Plattsburgh-Middlebury game was one I put on the schedule (along with 4 other good matchups from the East region). About an hour ago I made my selection of that game and I chose Plattsburgh. Normally I choose them because I am a homer, but this year is our best chance to end our 6 year losing streak to the Panthers in, well, 6 years. I will be traveling over to Middlebury to watch that game with several friends and we are meeting a couple of NESCAC posters who are Middlebury fans, for a pregame round or two at a local sports bar. I wish the game was at Plattsburgh I'd feel a little more comfortable and I wish Middlebury hadn't lost their last game. The Panthers' coaching staff will have them primed I'm sure. But I like our chances and think we can hold our own. One thing I'm sure of...it will be a good game.

Midd has struggled with injuries this year and been very inconsistent in their play. Teams that have attacked them have been very successful, teams that sit back a bit haven't done as well.  Despite their size they are giving up 15 offensive boards a game and their bigs have just not been very aggressive - something they got consistently from Peter Lynch last year.  They've struggled to prevent guard penetration, especially against quicker teams like Stevenson and St. Mary's.  I'm sure Midd will come out a lot tougher at home after a loss at Salve but as a Williams fan I can't say I'd be said if they lost another one  ;)

madz,

I sure hope we can make you happy. ;D And I hope you're right on your analysis, which I agree with, after watching Middlebury play 4 times this year online, because the Cardinals will attack and their guards will penetrate. I'm pretty sure that we are quicker and I know Midd is bigger. We've been close to a win the past few years we're overdue for one, I hope. :)

Plattsburgh MUST win tomorrow night! Both the cards and Potsdam close out the SUNYAC non-conference schedule tomorrow night. I believe that Potsdam has what it takes to beat the Valiants (5-6) out of the MAC (Mid Atlantic conference) which is home to #20 ranked Messiah college. Ditto for the Cards who take on perennial NESCAC tourney rep, Middlebury. If we (the Cards), can beat Middlebury I believe that should be one of the tiebreakers when the end of the season comes up and there are 3 SUNYAC teams competing for NCAA post season berths versus 3 NESCAC teams. Not to mention giving our conference 1 of the best non-conference records that we have had in years. In fact that would put us at 44-26 (.628 win percentage). That's nearly 2 wins out of every 3 games vs. non-conference opponents.

The pressure is on... but I believe that both the Bears and Cards will prevail. No point prediction here...just win baby!!

oh yea, make no mistake about it....

The YAC is BACK   ;D

This weeks SUNYAC Player of the Week is..

Junior guard Shamoy McIntosh led the Plattsburgh State men's basketball team to a pair of wins at the Land of Magic Classic in Daytona Beach, Fla., in the final days of 2013. The Floral Park, N.Y., product averaged 18.5 points per game, and put in a game-high 22 in the Cardinals' 62-40 win over Wisconsin-Stout. The 40 points the Blue Devils were able to put up over the Cardinals were the fewest scored by a Plattsburgh State opponent since Green Mountain put in just 39 on December 10, 2005.

I can't believe that the Magic 1 didn't catch this  :) (or maybe he did ???  )

I've been too busy posting on other boards, setting up my trip to Middlebury tomorrow, sending PM's to certain people in 3 different states and trying to finish up some work here at my store so I can watch the 2nd half of the National Championship game at home. (That ain't happening as I'm still here)

What that write-up about Shamoy McIntosh didn't state was that he had 15 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists against Millikin and held their 20 ppg leading scorer to 7 points, his lowest output of the year.

Don't know what happened to the rest of his write up Magic. Maybe they were waiting for some input from you before they decided on Shamoy? You may want to write those folks at SUNYAC? :) Congrats anyway to the Shamoy!! Hopefully he can duplicate that feat tomorrow.....score 22, get 6 boards, 3assists and hold #15 Joey Kizel (avg 18 pts per game) to 13 below his average!  ;)

#5233
New Top 25 Poll came out around 7 PM.  Brockport got very little additional support since the last poll. They were #32 with 21 points. They are now #31 with 31 points.

Richard Stockton who was lower than Brockport in the last poll at #36 with 17 points has moved into the Top 25 at #23 with 75 points.

I thought that both of these schools deserved a spot in the 20th to 25th range in this week's poll.

No other East Region Team gets a single point.

Here's the link to the complete poll:

Five games on tap in the SUNYAC today.

I'm leaving for Middlebury so no time for the usual pre game post just some quick picks today

Jan. 7

Manhattanville      Potsdam State      7:00 PM

Will be happy if the Bears win this one . They did last year down there so maybe they can win at home this year. I can't pick them however. Valiants listed as a 5 point favorite I think they win 76-70.

Plattsburgh State      Middlebury      7:30 PM

Going with my Cardinals in a nail biter. The oddsmakers have moved the line and now the Cards are a slight 1 point favorite. I think the final will be 77-74 Cardinals on top.

Cortland State      New Paltz State      8:00 PM

Red Dragons look to make it 3 in a row. I think they do. Cortland listed as a 6 point favorite will win by a 72-68 score.

Brockport State      Geneseo State      8:00 PM

This will be another close contest that could go right down to the wire. Golden Eagles picked to win by 6 points but I think it will be closer than that. Brockport wins 84-81.

Oswego State      Oneonta State      8:00 PM

Lakers will prevail in this game but Oneonta will give them a battle. Lakers favored by 6 and I see the final as Oswego winning 80-73.
