amh63,

Old Guy one upped everybody....he sent me an email with his age. He's got me by 2 years. I knew when Vandy said he was a sophomore in 65 that I was probably a year or two younger as I was a freshman in 65.

Knew all about the Ken Howard, Amherst connection. Great story. Used to watch The White Shadow all the time. And I saw Old Guy's recollection of his time on the court against Howard.

Interesting connection with ECSU....it really is a small world...sometimes. ;D

Damn, some of those trips are insane.  Makes Western's trip to Southern Maine (about 4.5 hours) seem like a breeze.  Western isn't that close to any school either (Eastern is about 80 miles and about an hour and 45 minutes, and that's the closest) but the majority of the LEC is 3 hours or less from all other institutions so it's very easy to make day trips those games.  This weekend Western is playing @ UMass Boston (2.5 hours away) and even though I'll meet up with my uncle who lives in a suburb and my cousin who goes to BU for dinner, I won't have to leave that early (I'll leave about 10) and won't get back even late either, and that's the case with most of the schools, Southern Maine and Plymouth state (about the same distance as USM) being the only exceptions.

When Plattsburgh has to do the Fredonia Buffalo State trip do they take off Thursday so their not spending 6+ hours on the bus, and do the same thing Saturday, or do they go out Friday and come back Saturday??

7 express..don't shed too many tears  :'( for the Cards, because of their travel woes. Its not any prettier for those who have to travel from Western New York to Plattsburgh. :(  Teams usually have to leave around 12-2 p.m. on a Thursday and the trip can take anywhere from 7-10 hours depending on route and weather.  ::)  Hopefully 1 would play Plattsburgh on Friday and then after a good nights sleep (you need it after playing the Cards). The next day you then take off for Potsdam. After that game then its another 280 miles home to Buffalo! :o  Total trip could easily be over 20 something hours (and that's a lot of movies ). God forbid that your team goes 0-2 on the trip (which is not uncommon when you travel to the north country) :( .

To make the trip worthwhile, I have been told that you must visit the "Musicshop" in Plattsburgh. There you will find everything 1 needs to satisfy their musical needs ( and maybe even some knowledgeable SUNYAC basketball  folks  :) ). I've been told that the Hampton Inn and or Microtel Hotel provide suitable accommodations too. But 20 + hours on a bus is.....20+ hours on a bus. Heck I imagine that Curle, Perez, Manning and company actually look forward to their trek to the 716 (Buffalo NY). I've been told that some of them may have a penchant for games of chance ::). Armed with this new knowledge in hand, I have paid for the 3 of them to participate in the Seneca Niagara 4th Annual $20,000 Blackjack tourney. The tourney starts at 6 p.m. on 1/24/14, and it comes with a free buffet and room  :D. I sure hope that they take me up on that offer. ;)

D3hoops has rolled out a new format for the front page, team pages and scoreboards. Looks good so far.

Bengalsrule,

You only paid for those 2 players and Coach Curle to take part in the blackjack tournament? Heck you must not remember the game on Feb.6th, 2010 when the Bengals lost in Plattsburgh 88-86 on a last second putback by the Cards Steve Thomas at the buzzer.  The coach of the team that day, since Coach Curle was out of town on family matters, was assistant Cameron Conover. He remains the only undefeated coach in the YAC. You're gonna need to distract more than those guys if you want a W on Jan 24th.

So go ahead treat Coach Curle to that blackjack tournament, Coach Conover can mind the store for the evening. And you can even distract John Perez and Chris Manning with that tournament as well. As long as we have the computer...Shamoy McIntosh, the Xman, Xavier Thomas, and the rest of the Cardinal regulars we'll be fine ;D

Four games  on the schedule tonight. Travel partners Buffalo State and Fredonia State have the night off.

Plattsburgh State at  New Paltz State    8:00 PM

The Cardinals are coming off a game that should have been in the win column and they know it. The Hawks are coming off a game that broke a 13 year old losing streak, their first win over Oswego since 2001. They have to be feeling confident. Tonight they look to do more streaking by beating the Cardinals for the 2nd time in a row, something they haven't done in a long time.  The Cardinals own a whopping 14-2 mark in the last 16 games in this series stretching back over the past seven years. However the Hawks own the most recent win and that was a come from behind victory last February when the Cardinals gave up a 7 point lead with a lttle over 2 minutes left in the game. Plattsburgh took some ill advised shots in that game instead of using some clock and the Hawks were able to drain a 3 pointer at the buzzer to win the game. The loss prevented the Cardinals from an opportunity to gain the top seed in last year's YAC  playoffs. The oddsmakers favor the Cardinals by a double digit 12 point spread. The boys from Plattsburgh better get off the bus ready to play though. New Paltz is showing signs of a team that is starting to jell and they are capable of beating any team in this league. They have alrready done something that Plattsburgh couldn't do...Beat Oswego in Max Ziel Gym. I think Coach Curle imparted a few lessons on the Cardinals this week after their meltdown against Brockport last Saturday. I see them winning this game 80-71.
GO CARDS!!

Oswego State at Brockport State         8:00 PM

The Lakers need to regroup after a rare loss at home to a team that will struggle to make the playoffs. If you hope to win the conference you can't lose home games, especially to teams that are picked to finish in the lower part of the YAC. Tonight they have their work cut out for them though as Brockport is looking like the team to beat. The Golden Eagles swept their trip up north last weekend and now are finally get a few home games after 9 straight contests on the road. The Lakers have had Brockport's number  recently as they have faced each other 3 times in each of the past 2 seasons and Oswego has won all 6 games. The last time Brockport beat the Lakers was in the 2nd round of the playoffs in 2010-11. That was during the Chad Burridge-Hayden Ward era at Oswego and those Laker legends are no longer lighting up opposing defenses. The Lakers are still a solid team and Brockport will have their hands full tonight but I think they can keep their winning streak alive. The pointspread favors the Eagles by16 points but i think that's too many.  I believe the Eagles win win their 9th game in a row tonight by a 83-75 final score.

Cortland State at Geneseo State         8:00 PM

Cortland will run into some problems tonight as they face a talented Geneseo  team that is looking to stay in the thick of the SUNYAC race. The Knights trail Cortland 5-2 in this series, over the past 3 years but did split with the Red Dragons last season. The pointspread favors the Knights by 6 points but tis game could go right down to the wire. I think the Knights at home will prevail by a 78-75 margin.

Potsdam State at Oneonta State        8:00 PM

The Bears will need to be at their very best to go into Oneonta and take down these Red Dragons. I don't see it happening. Too many weapons for Oneonta and Zach Mager should have a field day. Dragons favored by 13...Bears only lose by 9 though 79-70

Geneseo trailed Cortland earl on 18-4 and fought back to cut it to 29-21 at the half a]has come  all the way back and leads 55-52 with 10 seconds left in the game. Cortland attempted a 3 pointer that missed but they got the offensive board and was then fouled by the Knights who called a time out. Red Dragons miss the front end of a 1&1 and Knights get the rebound and Cortland fouls Gordon Lyons with 8 seconds left. Lyons missed the front end of a 1&1 Cortland gets the rebound and calls time out with 8 seconds left. Cortland inbounds goes downcourt and Lamard Herron with a shot at the buzzer that doesn't go down.

Geneseo wins it 55-52.

Our 4th game of the night just went final and Plattsburgh gets the win over New Paltz 96-81

John Perez with a big game for Plattsburgh as he scores a career high 29 points, grabs 6 rebounds and has 5 assists.

Eddie Correa set his 3rd new career high in a week as he had 25 points. Eddie had 22 at Middlebury on Jan 7th, 23 last Saturday against Brockport and tonight he was 7 for 11 from the field and they were all 3 pointers. He was also 4x4 from the line.

Xavier Thomas was the 3rd Cardinal player to set a career high tonight as the Xman had 12 points on a 5x5 perfect night from the field. He had 4 field goals from regulation and 1 from long distance.

Shavar Fields had 8 points and 11 rebounds

Chris Manning has 7 points, 6 assists, 3 rebounds and 2 steals.

Shamoy McIntosh had 6 points and 6 assists

Mike Mitchell had 5 points and 3 assists.

The Hawks had 5 guys in double figures. That usually translates into a win
Andrew Joseph with 14, Keegan Donovan with 13, Nick Taldi with 13, Taylor Sowah with 10 and Kevin Roach with 10. Roach had 8 rebounds, Joseph had 8 boards and so did Sowah.

To Magic and all contributing posters--Great discussion on the polls and enjoyed all the valuable information. I really don't think Pat will ever see the East Region as worthy of a Top 25 team, UNLESS undefeated and playing schedule outside of East Region. This is extremely difficult for SUNY schools with budgets and travel expenses. I liked the comment by the AUPep poster about "just keep winning and preparing for the next game." At some point people will take notice and good things should happen. Good luck tonight vs Cortland-- MY Eagles!!! Over and out down here in sunny Florida!!! Enjoy

A full slate in the SUNYAC today as all 10 teams are in action;

Potsdam State   at New Paltz State    4:00 PM

The Hawks looking  to rebound from the loss to Plattsburgh. The Bears looking for their first conference win. I don't think they get it today. Point spread favors the Hawks by 10 points. I don't know if the Bears can keep it any closer....Hawks win this one 79-70

Plattsburgh State      Oneonta State      4:00 PM

The Red Dragons continue to impress as they currently sit alone in 2nd place in the conference with a lofty 5-1 record. Yes they've played the bottom 3 teams in the YAC and took care of business there, but they also own a pair of wins against perennial playoff teams, Cortland and Oswego. Led by All Conference performer Zach Mager this team can play with anyone in the YAC it would appear. The Cardinals are looking to sweep the weekend and can't afford another early loss. It's been 7 years and 6 days since the Red Dragons last walked off a basketball court with a win over Plattsburgh State. The Cardinals have reeled off 12 straight in that time span. The oddsmakers think they will make it 13 in a row today as they are favored by 9 points. I agree with the oddsmakers , the Cardinals will put a damper on the fire breathing Dragons. Final score....Plattsburgh 83 Oneonta 76.

Brockport State      Cortland State      6:00 PM

Shavar Fields with 9 points, John Perez with 8 and Chris Manning with 7 to lead Plattsburgh.
