Once you reach 200 posts you'll see applaud/and smite underneath a posters name.  Applaud gives then +1 karma, smite gives them -1 karma.

Thank you!  You are 146 posts from me away from getting a bump up!

NYHOOPS I see where 7express explained the karma conundrum to you. One other thing about the applaud /smite feature is you can only give or take away karma once every 24 hours. I gave you a bump last night  for your kind words and consequently I can't repeat that action until 24 hours have gone by. That's to prevent someone from piling on the bad K or overdoing the good K in a short period of time. When you look at your karma tomorrow (or later tonight) it will be at # 9 (at  least) since I plan to give you another plus K later this evening.

Magic- I wasn't able to hear the interview, but I know that you are the most up-to-date poster on this site. Not to slight other well informed posters, but you are "THE MAN!" Now don't let your "head get too big for the doorway." Thanks for all your informative post --Keep up the good work--I enjoy it!! And I agree with your Coach Curle assessment--known him for years and great job at the Burg!!GO BPort Eagles!!!!

Four games on tap tonight in the conference.

New Paltz State  at  Potsdam State   8:00 PM

The Hawks need some wins in a hurry if they hope to get back in the playoff race. Tonight is probably a good place to start as they face the winless in the conference, Bears. The teams split their series last year with each winning at home and the Hawks were able to squeak out a 66-64 win just 2 weeks ago. The points spread favors new Paltz by a 7 point margin but I'm going to go out on a limb here and pick the bears topull off the upset and get into the win column in the conference. I think the final score will be 71-68 Potsdam.

Oswego State  at  Buffalo State   8:00 PM

The Lakers and the Bengals are tied for 4th place, along with 2 other teams, so both will be looking to get a little separation tonight. Lakers won the first meeting in Oswego by a 15 point margin. They have also won 6 of the last 7 meetings. Despite that the oddsmakers have made the Bengals a very slight 2 point favorite. I trhink the bengals will look to avenge that double digit defeat earlier this month and win tonight by an 81-77 score.

Cortland State  at  Fredonia State  8:00 PM

These Red Dragons are also looking to break out of that logjam that is 4th place. They have found a good spot to do so or so it would seem. Fredonia has some game but the question is can they keep it together for 40 minutes. That's  always been a problem with young teams. Cortland has got growing pains of their own but should have the edge in this matchup. The pointspread favors the Red Dragons by an 11 point margin but they have to finish this team off when they have the opportunity. too often this year the Red Dragons have failed to do so. The final score should be Cortland 76 Fredonia 63.

Oneonta State  at  Plattsburgh State   8:00 PM

Plattsburgh has matched its longest winning streak of the season by reeling off 5 in a row. Tonight they hope to extend that streak and keep a firm hold on 3rd place and possibly move into 2nd place after the Saturday meeting between Brockport and Geneseo. Just 2 weeks ago the Cardinals defeated these Red Dragons for the 13th straight time.  That streak has to end sometime. As much as Oneonta would like a win here, to break out of the pack of teams tied in the 4th spot, I don't thonk their losing streak to Plattsburgh will end tonight. The point spread has the Cardinals favored by 12 points and that may be about right. I think the cardinals win this one bu an 85-72 final score.

Implausibly, my beloved Bears lead NP 44-31 at the half on Bear Pride night.  Go Bears.

Balanced Scoring led by Tom graf and Joe Estramonte with 9, Keegan Donovan has 18 of the Hawk's 31 at the Half, as he is 7-7 from the stripe and 3-5 from the arc.

Final scores:

Plattsburgh State 77 Oneonta State 54

Oswego State 72 Buffalo State 70

Cortland State 70 Fredonia State 35

Potsdam State  Leads New Paltz State 75-68 with 1:45 to go.

Potsdam 86-81 as Rishawd Hendricks makes 7x8 down the stretch in a foul shooting contest vs. Layup Drill.

Keegan Donovan for 27 and Taylor Sowah 20 for the Hawks, the Bears got 17 each from Joe Estramonte and Zach Adams, 15 from Rob Duquette and 11 from Hendricks.

83 free throws and 54 fouls called.  Guess the zebras will need new whistles for tomorrow.

Final score in Potsdam as the Bears break through and spring a mild upset on the Hawks.

Potsdam 86 New Paltz 81

Edit:  Bear, free throws and layups I guess. The 2 teams scored 30 points between them in the final 3 minutes of the game. I guess the fans got their money's worth. Glad the Bears could win one finally and did it on a night that I picked them to do so. 8-)

Nice Job Magic 3x4 tonight, although Bengals has best circle the wagons after tonight.

They still have the North Country Swing to make and the Brockport Geneseo pairing, 5 - 5 + 2 - 4 probably doesnt = playoffs.

Very painful to watch,  Bears defended the three well, but would give up an uncontested two.  Hawks fouled instantly and forced Potsdam to make their FT's  last three minutes took like 20 to play.

A wins a win..

Plattsburgh State 77 Oneonta 54

The final score is closer than this game really was. Plattsburgh jumped out to a 9-2 lead, stretched it to 18-5 by the 11 minute mark and was up 29-9 with 6:09 left in the half. The Cardinals brought the fans to their feet several times in the half with some monster dunks by the X-man, Xavier Thomas, who had 2 of them. Shavar Fields and Shamoy NcIntosh got into the act as well with some throwdowns. The Red Dragons just ran into a buzzsaw tonight as the Cardinals were just humming along. Defensively they held Oneonta to just 9 points for the 1st 15 minutes of the half and forced the Red Dragons into 13 turnovers in the initial 20 minutes. I was a little apprehensive coming into this game knowing how well Oneonta had played against Brockport last week. The Cardinals put their foot on the accelerator, though and didn't let up.

The Cards opened the 2nd half with 2 quick baskets by Shavar Fields and a drive by Chris Manning to offset a 3 pointer by Dan Lee and a layup by Kareem Williams. Then the Cardinals scored 5 unanswered baskets, by 5 different players, to put 12 more points on the board and suddenly the score was 60-29 and this game was over with 12:40 left to play. Shortly after that explosion by Plattsburgh both coaches emptied their benches and the reserves played a spirited game with everyone trying to break into the scoring column for both teams over the final 10 minutes.. Oneonta had 14 players from their 16 man roster get on the board led by Mikey McElroy with 10 points. No other Red Dragon had double figures. Larry Brink led the Dragons with 7 rebounds. Oneonta's Zach Mager did not have one of his better nights with only 4 points and 4 rebounds. Zach torched the Cardinals for 28 points in their last meeting and Plattsburgh obviously made plans to shut him down this time around. They limited his touches and double teamed him when he did get the ball, effectively taking away the Red Dragon's number one weapon. Mager has been a scoring machine this season and this was only the  2nd time all year he has failed to hit double figures.

THe Red Dragons had an off night shooting the ball as they were only 22x59 from the field (35.6%), 5x20 from downtown (25%)and just 7x12 from the line (58.3%). The Red Dragons average nearly eight made three pointers per game at a 40% success rate. The Cardinals took that away from them as well. Oneonta ended up with 19 turnovers to 13 for Plattsburgh. The Cardinals had an edge off the glass as well 43-38.

Plattsburgh was led by Shavar Fields with game highs of 15 points (2x10 fg, 5x6 ft) and 7 rebounds. Shamoy McIntosh was listed with 15 points as well but the man affectionately called "The Computer" by yours truly did get a little help from the computer I believe. I think the official scorer gave Shamoy a 2 point dunk that was made by Xavier Thomas. Never mind!! Shamoy had 15 points (7x13 fg, 1x2 3's, 0x2 ft), 4 rebounds, 4 steals and a block. The X-man, Xavier Thomas was next with 8 points (4x6 fg, 0x1 3's, 0x5 ft) with 2 rebounds and 2 blocks in 14 minutes of floor time. Ed Correa had 8 points and 4 rebounds, and John Perez tied Fields with 7 rebounds. Chris Manning had 7 points, 3 rebounds 3 assists and 2 steals in just 19 minutes. The entire 13 man roster scored at least 2 points and every player got at least 8 minutes of court time.

The Cardinals shot 31x66 from the field (47%), 6x14 from 3 point land (42.9%), but only 9x20 (45%) from the line.

Plattsburgh ups their record to 14-3 overall and keeps the teams that are below them in the YAC, at bay, with an 8-2 conference log.
Tomorrow The Hawks from New Paltz fly into the 'Burgh and they will be looking to pull off an upset similar to what they did exactly one  year ago when they beat the Cards 75-72 on a last second 3 pointer.

Oneonta drops to 8-10 overall and 5-6 in the YAC. They fall out of a 4th place tie and into a 6th tie with the Bengals. Having lost to Buffalo State earlier, Oneonta is technically in 7th place. The Red Dragons now travel over to Potsdam to take on the red hot Bears tomorrow afternoon. Something's gotta give in that game. Can Potsdam possibly win 2 in a row? Can Oneonta regroup and hold onto a playoff position? Tune into tomorrow for the answers, same bat time, same bat channel... Apologies to Adam West. :D

Edit to correct scoring error: Shamoy McIntosh did indeed have 15 points and a dunk I creidted to the Xman was Shamoys. Made the changes.

The Bengals are living dangerously, but I still see them in the playoffs. I think they will finish ahead of Fredonia, the Bears, New Paltz and Oneonta. The season sweep by Oswego hurts and they need to beat Cortland tomorrow to avoid another season sweep there. 5th place is still a possiblity pending tomorrow's outcome. The real key will be what happens when Buffalo State plays at Oneonta on Feb. 8th.

NYHOOPS8

I'm surprised with Buffalo State this year. They have been a hard team to figure out. They have played alot of close games and have been on the losing end of them far too many times. One thing is for certain, if they can sneak into the playoffs, thats not a team you want to play in the 1st round.
