I'm surprised with Buffalo State this year. They have been a hard team to figure out. They have played alot of close games and have been on the losing end of them far too many times. One thing is for certain, if they can sneak into the playoffs, thats not a team you want to play in the 1st round.

That is absolutely the truth NYHOOPS. This is a team that had high expectations but as the losses have piled up, their hopes for postseason play have dwindled down to a single option....win the YAC tournament or go home.

I almost hope they do that since we have 3 other teams, that (right now) all look good. It's one of the only ways that the SUNYAC might be a 3 bid league. Notice I said almost, because I'm obviously rooting for Plattsburgh to win the automatic bid. And I really think Brockport is a team that can do some damage in the tournament so I want them dancing as well. It's hard to know what the NCAA selection committee will do, so the best option is to not have that option. Win the automatic bid and know you're in. That's what every team is shooting for, and that also helps determine if you might be hosting or traveling in the early rounds. Getting 3 bids from the SUNYAC is a long shot at best and I certainly don't want my Cardinals missing out because the Bengals win the automatic bid and Brockport is the 1st team chosen from the East for a Pool C bid. I would feel considerably uncomfortable, for the remainder of the selection process, on that Monday, knowing that the only way my Cardinals get to the Dance is if we ARE a 3 bid league.

All 10 teams in action today.

Really pressed for time so I can only post my predicted scores today without the normal banter.

Oswego State   at     Fredonia State      4:00 PM

The Lakers shouldn't have a problem here or they could end up with a problem down the road.  Lakers favored by 12 and they should cover that margin. Oswego wins 75-58

New Paltz State   at   Plattsburgh State      4:00 PM

Cardinals had a letdown against the Hawks one year ago to the day and it cost them a chance to host the playoffs last year. They gave up an 8 point lead with less than 3 minutes to play and lost on a last second 3 pointer. I don't think that will happen today on the Cardinals home court. Point spread has them favored by 18 points and if they play like they did yesterday the margin will be bigger. Cards win this one by an 84- 64 score.

Cortland State   at   Buffalo State      4:00 PM

Both teams need a win here but the Bengals need it more. I'll go with them in a pick em contest. Buffalo State wins this one 86-82.

Oneonta State   at      Potsdam State      4:00 PM

Can the Bears win 2 in a row? Probably not. And the oddsmakers don't think so either as the have the Red Dragon listed as a 9 point favorite. I'll take the Bears despite that spread as they claw their way to another win in the high point of their season. Potsdam 75 Oneonta 72.

Geneseo State  at     Brockport State      8:00 PM

The game of the week at Tuttle North Gym as the top 2 teams square off in a battle for 1st place. With the earlier meeting postponed because of bad weather, this is the first meeting of the nationally ranked #20 Golden Eagles and the #37 Geneseo Knights. They will hook up again just 10 days from now when Brockport will be the visiting team. Oddsmakers have made the Eagles a healthy  8 point favorite in this contest, which surprises me a bit as I think it will be a closer encounter. I'll take the Golden Eagles at home, though by an 84-80 final score.

Circle the wagons indeed!  Toughest loss in recent memory last night.  :-[ Gave up game winner with .6 seconds left on the clock, after missing 2 free throws!  >:( . No time to feel sorry for ourselves though with the Red Dragons now sitting in the arena directly across from me! I gotta give to the Ross kid from Oswego.  He "willed" his team to victory last night.  Gutsy performance. Hopefully our boys will learn from last night and his example. Gotta win at least 3 of these next 5 (plus beat Oneonta) to have a chance

Go BENGALS!

Ps congrats to thebear and Potsdam. Oddly enough after the game yesterday I went to drown my sorrows in a game of "craps" at Seneca Niagara.  One dealer asked my where had I been earlier ( since I was in Bengal gear).  I explained what and where I had been. He then talked about his glory days at Potsdam and something about a guy named Jerry Welsh?!?! We had a good conversation about the state of basketball in the Yac and also E8 and the liberty league also! He "Rob"is a very proud Potsdam alum!

Final scores from today's action.

Plattsburgh State 90  New Paltz 78

Buffalo State 90 Cortland State 83  in overtime

Shocker of the Day    Fredonia State 68 Oswego State 66 in overtime

Oneonta State 81   Potsdam State 77

Back to another logjam for 4th place as Oswego failed to capitalize on their good fortune from last night. Getting a last second win against the Bengals on Friday and facing a team tied for last place in the YAC on Saturday, should have give them sole possession of 4th place at the end of today's action. Instead all 4 teams that entered the weekend tied for the 4th spot with 5-5 records, Cortland, Oswego, Buffalo State, and Oneonta, are still tied for the 4th spot with 6-6 records...only in the YAC. ???

Lots of exciting basketball all over the state today in the league, with the game of the week yet to come for an encore.

Just got off the phone a few minutes ago with a certain Bengal supporter from this board. Certainly in a better frame of mind than he was last night. Something to do with an overtime win today that kept his "beloved Bengals"still in 4th place and tied with the pack. 8-)

Or maybe it was the fact that his little sister came through with Superbowl tickets and he's flying into the Big Apple in the morning to join his brother (I think) for the big game. Must be nice!!! ;D  Enjoy the game my friend, hope you're rooting for Peyton.

My crystal ball say a good offense beats a good defense. Final score:   Broncos 32 Seahawks 22. Why?  Cause my sucky numbers, in the big pool I'm in, ($2500.00 every score change) are 2-2. I don't know if you can have 2 worse numbers. :P >:( :( :'(

Is this Brockport Geneseo game being filmed by someone in the first row on a phone camera??  Really weird camera angle the whole half in what is looking like a pretty good game tied at 24.

The game of the week between Brockport and Geneseo is living up to its billing so far, as the teams go into the locker rooms tied at 24 at the break.

The first 8 minutes saw the teams jockey back and forth with numerous ties and lead changes until Geneseo opened up a 20-11 margin with 10 minutes to play. Led by Gordon Lyons with 11 points and Connor Fedge with 7 the Knights kept the lead throughout most of the half. The Golden Eagles kept the full court pressure up though, and eventually pulled within 2 points with 1:42 left in the period on an old fashioned 3 point play by Clifton Lyerly. With 26 seconds remaining Lyerly got loose with a steal and slammed one down to tie the game going into halftime. Lyerly ended the half with 11 points. Matt Lee had 5 and Dorian Hayden had 4. Brockport's star performer John Ivy was held scoreless in the first period. I'm sure that will change in the next 20 minutes though.

What number is Ivy Magic??  Watching this game on-line, first time I've seen either team.

It is a good game 7, and I think the camera angle is just that a student is operating it probably from about 3/4 of the way up in the bleachers and is using the zoom feature on the camera quite liberally, especially as the ball is brought upcourt..

Sorry 7 I was on the phone with Mrs magicman and missed a bunch of the action. Ivy is #3. Brandon Caruthers is #22, also a very good guard.

Magicman.....Saw your HBC's  daughter play a heady game in a lost to Amherst on Bowdoin's senior day.  Good game between two ranked WBB teams. Impressed with the defense and alert play and ball handling of the FY player.  Played 23 good minutes on the floor.  Nice to see FY players guard each other.....both will leave their mark in the years ahead.
FYI, Amherst won in it's game against the ranked Polar Bear MBB team. Also a good game...a close win for Amherst on the road.  Good chance the two teams could meet again in the conference tournament.  Had to add this latter report in that this is a MBB board. :)

Crunch time in Brockport. 1:19 to go Brockport with the ball and down 56-54. They go inside to the big man Coyle who makes a layup for the tie. John Ivy then gets a steal and scores to put the Eagles up 58-56 but Geneseo comes back with a basket by Gordon Lyons to tie it up and send it to overtime.

Brockport and Geneseo still tied at 62 with 2:54 left in OT.

Port gets another free throw from Clifton Lyerly and goes in front 63-62. Another pair of free throws by Patrick Coyle extends the lead to 65-62. Andy Dreschler makes 1 of 2 ft's for the Knights  to make it 65-63.

Lyerly goes to the line for Brockport and gets 1 of 2 ft. and Port gets the rebound on the miss.  John Ivy gets fouled and he makes them both to up the lead to 68-63.

Geneseo's Connor Fedge  scores and is fouled he gets the ft to go. Now 68-66 with 23 seconds left.

Brockport inbounds to Ivy and he is fouled with 15 seconds on the clock.  He misses the first one, makes the 2nd and Geneseo commits a turnover as Brandon Caruthers gets a steal. Ivy is fouled again and he makes them both to up the lead to 71-66. Geneseo gets a layup to make the score 71-68. Ivy is fouled once again and makes 2 more from the line to make the final score 73-68.

That's why this one was the game of the week. Brockport remains undefeated in conference play at 10-0 and Geneseo is now in 3rd place at 8-2. Plattsburgh moves into 2nd place with a 9-2 record.

7, is your video breaking up?

Mine broke up for a couple minutes, went over to the Augie Wheaton game, and when I came back it was fine.
