Does John Ivy have 43 points in him??  Better question is, does Plattsburgh even let him attempt a 3??

Plattsburgh up 3 90-87 after 2 free throws.  Brockport ball with less than 6 seconds left, Ivy with 40 points.

2 free throws from Brockport leave them down 1 with 5.2 seconds left.

2 free throws from the Cardinals put Plattsburgh back up 3, and Ivy's contested 3 point attempt falls well short.  Plattsburgh wins 92-89.

Plattsburgh leads Brockport 90-87 with 6 seconds to go. Brockport has the ball underneath Plattsburgh's basket. Here we go. Plattsburgh commits a foul on the inbounds pass. Brandon Caruthers goes to the line for Brockport and makes both free throws. Now 90-89 and Plattsburgh calls a time out.

I knew this was going to be a good game but this is beyond good. This is the game of the year in the SUNYAC

Shamoy McIntosh is fouled and makes both free throws. Ivy misses a three at the buzzer and Plattsburgh comes away with the 92-89 win.

I'm exhausted!!! :o 8-)

Thank you amh6, kind words from you as always. That was one fantastical game to watch. I must admit that I was amped up quite a bit when my Cardinals kept trying to find ways to give this one away on several occasions in the final minutes of play. I will be having words with the players when they return to Plattsburgh for giving me quite a scare for far too many instances when I thought the game was in hand.

87 free throws attempted between the 2 teams.

Alfred and Stevens combined for 85 free throws. But that's a typical game for the Saxons who lead the nation in personal fouls. Stevens was 28 of 43 from the free throw line, while the Saxons were 25 of 42.

On Saxon Warriors! On to Victory!
...Fight, fight for Alfred, A-L-F, R-E-D!

Congrats magic 1 on a great victory on the road! Must have been a nail biter to watch, online nonetheless !  Sorry I didn't call u back but I was bumming a ride from some friends back to Albany and I dozed off!

Hopefully your Cards will the same to Geneseo tommorrow.  Oddly enough your game was covered on the d3 hoops "recap".   However they claim that the Cards and Golden Eagles only play once a year??  Not sure where they got that stay from?

Plattsburgh 92 Brockport 89

I had this one 81-78 in favor of my Cardinals. I did have the margin of victory right on the number but each team scored 11 points more than I predicted. I had no way of knowing there were 3 zebras that were going to call everything in sight. 65 combined points from the free throw line is a bit much. In my younger days I was a referee, and I came from the "let em play" school of officiating. This crew hadn't heard of that theory.

I said it was going to be a great game, it was my Game of the Day and Game of the Week...turned out it was probably the Game of the Year in the YAC. It was back and forth the entire contest as no one had a double digit lead at any point in the game. There were 5 ties and 7 lead changes but basically Brockport led for most of the first half with Plattsburgh playing catch up and the Cardinal leading for most of the 2nd half with the Eagles playing catch up. Two excellent teams going at each other tooth and nail. It's too bad someone had to lose. I found myself feeling bad that Brockport's 15 game winning streak was ending. I wanted it to go on until they had the longest one left alive in D3. I thought about the winning streak we might be on if the Cardinals hadn't blown a 7 point lead against the Eagles in Plattsburgh. That one would be at 14 games right now.

I did tell Coach Dunne right after that January 11th loss that his Golden Eagles would not lose another game until the Cardinals came to town on February 7th. I was talking the talk and tonight my Cardinals backed me up but it was anything but easy. And winning this game tonight won't mean anything if we lose to Geneseo tomorrow. The odds of taking down two top teams on back to back days on their courts is not an easy thing to accomplish and the odds are certainly against that happening. Hopefully the Cardinals can pull it off.

Tonights warriors left it all on the court. Plattsburgh placed 5 players in double figures led by Shavar Fields who just missed a double double with 23 points and 9 rebounds. Shavar was 7x14 from the field and 9x11 from the line.

John Perez had another big night as he scored 21 points and was the games leading rebounder with 15. He added 3 assists and shot 6x12 from the field and 9x12 from the line. Eight of John's 15 rebounds came on the offensive end.

Ezra Hodgson came off the bench and scored 15 points and had 6 rebounds and 2 assists. Ezra was the only Cardinal , in fact the only player in the game that had much luck tonight shooting from long range as he was 2 of 4 from behind the arc. The 2 teams combined to fire up 37 three point attempts and made only 6 between them Plattsburgh was 3x19 while Port was 3x18. Together they normally average about 17 made 3 pointers. Together they shot 17 % tonight. Ezra was 5x7 from the field and 5x5 from the line, including 2 when there was just 6 seconds left to play and the Cardinals clinging to a 1 point lead.

The X Man Xavier Thomas came off the bench and provided a big lift in the first half with 4 key baskets in only 8 minutes. He finished with 12 points on 6x12 from the field, with 3 rebounds and 1 assist in just 13 minutes of floor time.

Shamoy McIntosh is proof that you can't keep a good man down. Held scoreless in the first half, The Computer broke loose for 11 second half points and ended up with 7 rebounds, 2 steals and 1 assist. McIntosh and point guard Chris Manning were both victims of early foul trouble and had to go to the bench, limiting their minutes. Manning ended up with 6 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals and a block.

Cards shot 40 % from the field (28x70), 15.8% from distance (3x19) and 71.7% from the line (33x46).  They had 55 rebounds to 47 for the Eagles and had 17 turnovers to 15 for Brockport.

Plattsburgh improves to 16-2 overall and 10-2 in the YAC. They remain in sole possession of 2nd place and tomorrow will face the 3rd place Geneseo Knights at 4:00 PM. That game could further clarify a muddled SUNYAC landscape.

Brockport was led by their All American, John Poison Ivy who did all he could to bring his team a victory tonight. Tiime and time again he drove the lane and either scored or got fouled or got both. He managed to reset his career high which he set back on January 21st against Buffalo State. He poured in 35 points that night and tonight took it up to 40 points. John was 11x26 from the field 1x4 3's and 17x18 from the line. He added 9 rebounds, 2 assists, a steal, and a block.

Brandon Caruthers had 11 points (2x11 fg, 1x4 3's, 6x8 ft) He had 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals.

Clifton Lyerly came off the bench with 11 points (4x9 fg, 0 x1 3's, 3x5 ft) 2 rebounds and 2 assists. This young man is only a freshman and should be quite a player over the next few years.

Patrick Coyle had 9 points (3x5 fg, 3x5 ft) and 7 rebounds and last but certainly not least, Olusola Adeniran had 7 points, tied the Cards' Perez for rebounding honors with 15, had 3 steals, 3 blocks and 1 assist.

The Golden Eagles shot 36.5% from the field (27x74), 16.7% from long range (3x18) and 78% from the line (32x41).

There were 62 fouls called in this game and 87 free throws taken. :o Way too many whistles in my opinion as I stated at the outset. Both sides had their share of strange calls. The game was a great game because the players were playing their hearts out. Would have been even better if the refs went with the flow instead of interrupting the flow. All the other 8 o'clock game were over well before this one was. That oughta tell you something. ???

Brockport loses for only the 2nd time all year and now has a 16-2 overall record. They keep their 1st place position in the conference with a 10-1 record. They will host Potsdam tomorrow afternoon at 4:00 PM as they look to start a new streak.

Congratulations to both teams for leaving it all on the floor. The fans in Tuttle North got way more than their money's worth tonight.

All ten teams in action today in the SUNYAC.

Plattsburgh State  at  Geneseo State    4:00 PM    The Game of the day

The Cardinals won the big contest last night but today's game against the Knights is just as big to determine the pecking order of the YAC. Anyone of the top 3 teams can still win the regular season so this head to head matchup is doubly important. Cards won the earlier meeting in Plattsburgh, a sweep would give them a big leg up on Geneseo and the tiebreaker against Brockport should that come into play. Winning back to back games on this long road trip, against the other 2 top teams in the conference, is a tall order. Hard to fault the Cardinals is they falter here. Geneseo knows it's do or die time if they are to have any chance of claiming the top spot. The oddsmakers have changed the spread and now favor Plattsburgh by a slim 2 point margin. One thing is for certain it should be another barnburner. I'll take the Cardinals to win 85-81.

Fredonia State  at  New Paltz State    4:00 PM

This is a game between 2 teams playing out the string for pride. Coaches looking to see who and what will work in the future. Both team have some nice parts, but both need to go on a shopping spree as well. Point spread favors the home team by 6 points in this game, but it won't surprise me if the Blue Devils pull one out here. Hawks have lost 7 straight and this could be their last shot at a win. It's Senior night so I'll go with New Paltz to win by a 75-70  score.

Potsdam State  at  Brockport State   4:00 PM

The Bears are in the wrong place at the wrong time. It's tough enough to play the #15th ranked team in the country in their house...to do so after that team has just suffered their first loss in 3 months will be brutal. Brockport is a huge favorite in this one as the point spread is 30 points. I think the Bears keep it closer than that but not much closer. Brockport 90 Potsdam 63.

Buffalo State  at  Oneonta State   4:00 PM

This is a huge for these two teams as the winner will have the inside track for the 6th and final playoff spot. Buffalo State is still playing for a home playoff game but a loss here could put them in jeopardy of making the post season. Both teams won yesterday  and the Bengals have a game in hand in the loss column. A win here would give the Bengals a season sweep and all but guarantee them a playoff spot.  For that reason this is a must game for the Red Dragons. The oddsmakers have made the Bengals a slim 2 point favorite. I like the Buffalo State myself and think they'll win this one by a 84-78 final score

Cortland State  at  Oswego State   8:00 PM

Another big matchup between 2 of the teams tied for 4th place in the conference. This is the first meeting between the schools this year and the winner gets a leg up on hosting a home playoff game. The oddsmakers have made the Lakers a slim 2 point favorite here and I'm also picking the home team. Tough to win in Laker Hall. Oswego wins this one 72-69

Gordon Lyons with 9 points and 7 rebounds for the Knights. Connor Fedge with 7 points, while Matt Curry has 5 points and 5 rebounds.

Plattsburgh led by two players that came off the bench as Mike Mitchell has 8 points and Xavier Thomas has 5 points with 4 rebounds.

Oneonta over Buffalo State 33-29 at the half

Crunch time in Geneseo. Knights up 51-47 with 3:42 to play in the game. Cardinals with the ball coming out of a time out.

Teams exchange missed 3 pointers and Cardinals get a fast break dunk by Shavar Fields to cut it to 51-49. Time out with 2:37 left

Knights get a 3 pointer from Thomas Decker and the Cards turn it over. Knights get another 3 pointer from Andy Drescher to make it 57-49, with 1:52 left. That may have been the dagger in the Cards' heart.

Cards miss on another 3 point try and foul, the Knights make 1 of 2. And the Cardinals finally get a basket to make it 58-51 with 30 seconds left. This one is over.

Cards foul again and Knights make 1 of 2...Plattsburgh misses another 3 point attempt...fouls again and Knights make 1of 2 again to make it 60-51. Plattsburgh misses another from long range and this one is history. Geneseo wins and moves into 2nd place .

Another big showdown for first place is coming up on Tuesday as Brockport will be in Geneseo for the rematch of these 2 teams. The winner will have sole  possession of first place and will control their own destiny.

As I've Said, Double Round Robin destroys SUNYAC national rankings and Overall W-L  we eat our young.

Wouldn't be surprised to see 'port drop out of top 25, and Knights [Have a son '00 Geneseo Grad] not get rewarded for their double win weekend.
