Magicman...."Just wishing and hoping.."    Sounds like good lyrics for a song! :)

Back when we were, oh so young, amh63...Dusty Springfield, 1964 top ten hit. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BpgXGIXen8Q

Magicman...knew it was some lyric to a song...was pulling your chain!  Thanks for identifying the song and the singer of the hit!   Plus K.

I dare and I did, Bengalsrule. amh63 You're not that much older than me but you are older and I always defer to wise older men. You would have have been 22 or 23 I'm guessing. ??? ;D and Bengalsrule is just a baby still, can't even say he was alive in the 60's, can he. ??? May have been a toddler then, but I'm guessing less than 2 years old when 1960 rolled around.

A little off topic here.....but you are correct wrt to my age....it was a very changing world then but a "tidal wave" time when talking about music.   Folk music was still popular but the Beatles had started to make an impact.  In '64 spent some time in NYC going to clubs in the Village...as well as going back to Amherst to hear and see Pres. Kennedy dedicate the new Robert Frost library....just months before his death.  Times were changing fast as was the music....like the lyrics of that composer/singer from northern Minn.  or was it words from some other folk music group....yes times they are a changing still! :) my friend.

amh63,

The library dedication must have been in the fall of 1963, not 1964. President Kennedy was assassinated in November of 1963. I'm guessing you graduated in May of 1963 and went back to Amherst for a visit in the fall of '63 for the President's visit. Probably seemed like it was next year since you were no longer a student. (At Amherst anyway...since I believe you then went to MIT) At our age everything seems to run together. ::) Hard to keep the dates straight.

amh63

Magicman....true on many dates, my friend.  Need to correct the timeline a bit.  After Amherst, went to UCONN in Storrs as a teaching assist in the Physics Dept....there I made a fool of myself following the UConn MBB team of Toby Kimball and Tom Penders, etc....met my wife, and one of my best friends.  Decided nuclear physics was not my thing.....and later married and went off to MIT for other degrees and a full career in DOD.. ending in nuclear submarines, etc...go figure. My friend at UConn grad school had an in with the music industry...related by marriage to the manager of Bob Dylan...from Minn. with the last name of Zimmerman....Peter, Paul and Mary, and other top singers.  At Amherst, heard Buffy St. Marie, Pete Seeger...arranged by a frat brother/roommate...and others.  Most fortunate for me with my music experiences.  Even at my 50th College Reunion in 2013....there was a private concert for my class by the "official" Platters.  Brought back many memories  and good times for classmates and our families as we danced to the tunes. :).

Games on tap for SUNYAC temas on Dec. 2. Lots of rivalries in these matchups.

Ithaca  at  Cortland State        5:30 PM
The Red Dragons look to continue their undefeated ways. Ithaca trying to start a win streak. I think the Bombers are up against it here. Point spread favors Cortland by 14 points. Common opponents were Trinity (Conn.) and Farmingdale State. Red Dragons beat Trinity by 9 while Ithaca lost to them by 26. Both teams beat Farmingdale by double digits. Cortland wins this one by double digits to stay unbeaten. Final score is 78-68.

Clarkson  at  Potsdam State        7:30 PM
Crosstown rivals with their annual meeting. The Golden Knights have dominated this series recently as they hold an 8-3 edge over the Bears in the past 8 years. Potsdam has only played 2 games this season as a tournament they were scheduled to play at Hilbert was cancelled due to the massive snowstorm in the Buffalo area. Bears could have used those games to tune up for the weekend SUNYAC games on tap. They will be behind the 8 ball in this match up with Clarkson. The Golden knights are undefeated at 5-0 and off to their best start in maybe forever. They defeated Oswego State 60-54 at Oswego last Tuesday and are favored by double digits in this game as the oddsmakers have made them a 10 point favorite. I hope the Bears pull off the upset here, but it's hard to pick them to do so. I think the John Coleman led Knights will be too much and Clarkson will walk out of Jerry Welsh Gym with a 70-63 victory.

Plattsburgh State  at  St. Lawrence        8:00 PM
The Cardinals look to make it 2 wins in a row over Liberty League opponents as they come off a hard fought overtime win at Skidmore a week ago. The Saints are 0-2 in SUNYAC play having lost  road games to Oswego and Brockport by 3 and 4 points respectively. Plattsburgh has won the last 5 meetings as the Saints have to go back to the 2008-09 season to find their last win over the Cards. I think the drought will continue for another year. The point spread favors the Cardinals by 9 points and I think they will cover that and win by a 79-67 margin.

Fredonia State  at  Alfred        8:00 PM
The Blue Devils have a tough time winning against anybody and now they have to play Alfred on the road after missing 2 games because of the same snowstorm that affected Potsdam. Last year Alfred won by 10 points in Fredonia. Not sure this year's bunch of Saxons is as good but not sure this year's bunch of Blue Knights has improved over last year's 6-19 squad. Losing to Canton doesn't give me a great deal of confidence in Fredonia. Alfred is favored by 10 points in this game and the Saxons are averaging almost 84 ppg. I think they win it 84-71.

Hartwick  at  Oneonta State        8:00 PM
Another pair of crosstown rivals meeting for bragging rights that have been tilted toward Hartwick for the past 4 years. Both of these teams own an early season upset. Oneonta defeated Williams right out of the gate and Hartwick beat current Top 25 team Eastern Connecticut back on Nov. 21st, dropping the Warriors from the unbeaten ranks. The oddsmakers have made the Red Dragons a home favorite of 5 points in a game that should go right down to the wire. The common opponents would give the edge to the Hawks as they beat Eastern Connecticut by 3 points while Oneonta lost to that team by a 101-78 score. I'm still going with the home team here and will take the Red Dragons to win it by a 75-72 score.

Hope we fare better than we did the last time the SUNYAC teams took the court.

I'm predicting a 5-0 day for the 'Yac (4-1 at the very worse). I will let Magicman fill in the scores!! ;)

magicman

5-0 is a pipe dream.  I'll be satisfied with a 3-2 split in our favor. Anything else is gravy...and I thought I already filled in the scores in the post that you're quoting??? You want me to come up with more scores ???

I do hope you're right though, about that 5-0 stuff..

magicman

Cortland was up by double digits over Ithaca for most of this game but the Bombers have made a push to cut a 16 point 2nd half deficit down to 8 with 7:45 left in the game.

magicman

Cortland builds their lead back to double digits at 80-67. Ithaca makes a final push and gets back to within 7 at 80-73 with 2:16 to play. Bombers running out of time though and have to foul and Cortland makes their free throws. They hit 8 of 10 and extend the lead back to 15 points as they cruise to a final score of 91-73.

Blair Estarfaa comes off the bench and leads Cortland with 21 points as he went 5 of 7 from long distance. Shane Martinez and Lamard Herron both had 15 points. Martinez had 5 rebounds with 5 assists and Herron had 3 rebounds with 4 assists. Grequan Carter was next with 11 points and 7 rebounds. TJ Hefele and Justin Prendergast both subbed in and were the 5th and 6th Red Dragon players to hit in double figures as they scored 10 apiece.

Cortland had 13 triples tonight in 24 attempts for a 54.2%. Overall they were 30x62 for 48.4%. They were 18x30 from the line (60%). They had 38 rebounds to 29 for the Bombers and won the turnover battle as well with only 10. The Bombers gave the ball away 15 times.

Ithaca was led by Keefe Gitto with 17 points, followed by Joe Masino with 15, Carlin Champion with 14 and Max Masucci with 11. Masino and Gitto tied for rebounding honors with 8 each.

Cortland heads into the first weekend of conference play with an undefeated 4-0 record and will greet the Bengals from Buffalo State on Friday evening with the new SUNYAC format put in for this season. The Men's game will tip off before the Women's game and the starting time is now 5:30 PM. Fredonia State will follow the Bengals into Corey Gymnasium as that game will tip off at 2:00 PM.

Ithaca falls to 1-4 and it looks like the Bombers could be in for another long season. They will host Liberty League rival St Lawrence this Friday at 6:00 PM.

Plattsburgh State's Vaughn Dweck buries a 3 pointer with 2 seconds on the clock and the Cardinals head into the locker room up 33-25 over St. Lawrence at the half.

The Saints scored the first basket to go in front 2-0 and it was tied at 5 a minute later. The Cardinals went in front on a Ezra Hodgson 3 pointer and the Cardinals never surrendered the lead for the remainder of the period. They went in front 16-9 but the Saints closed the gap and then Plattsburgh's X factor entered the game. Xavier Thomas scored 10 of the next 12 points for the Cardinals starting with a nice offensive rebound and putback to get into the scoring column. After Kyle Richardson made another nice inside move Thomas followed that with a 3 pointer to make the score 25 to 21. Two minutes later he did the same thing with a layup followed by a 3 pointer 35 seconds later. Thomas was the Cardinals leading scorer with 10 points at the break. Ezra Hodgson had 8 points and Reggie Williams had 4 points and 7 rebounds.

SLU was led by Brady Condlin with 12 points.
