Magicman...Amherst's men's hockey team is up in your neck of the woods today for a Tourny.  Hope you guys are good hosts and not crush them too badly!
Looking forward to the Middlebury battle....hope to see some smiling faces on the video.
Oops...no smiling faces since the Cardinals vs Panthers will have no video.  Also Amherst is playing at ECSU on Tues...battle of ranked teams.  Guess, I will have to see your face and those of the Midd fans in the post season...in LeFrak maybe!  Live if that happens with drinks and food on me of course...at the WhiteHorse or wherever.

Rare post on this board, but the Plattsburgh/Keene game turned out to be a pretty good one in the end (although certainly not the prettiest for either side I must say).  Good luck to your Cardinals as the season progresses, magicman.  Happy New Year as well.

Thanks for the well wishes AllStar and a Happy New Year to you. The Middlebury-Plattsburgh game coming up on Tuesday should be another excellent contest. Check out this link on Tuesday for an excellent webcast of the game. Gametime is 5:30 PM.

It's one of the best in the country. Good quality video, great announcers, even instant replay from time to time. It's done by an outside company with professional people that have no affiliation with the school. You don't end up with one of those poor quality feeds that have biased, terrible announcers, that never tell you the score or how much time is left.

By the way do you have a favorite team? I know you are partial to the Little East but don't know which school you root for. Do you live in a city where an LEC school is located?

Yes, I follow Keene quite a bit so I root for them.  They are (I hope) improving from some down years recently.  It seemed you were surprised with Plattsburgh being favored in the game yesterday, but I wasn't.  Not after what happened last year and the fact that the Owls haven't played a very tough schedule yet (Springfield was probably the best team they had played before yesterday).  With the exception of last years disaster (from my point of view), the other 3 games in the series vs. Plattsburgh have been entertaining.  The Owls won 101-100 in overtime several years back, and the Cardinals took the matchup two years ago 70-64 and this one 99-94.  We shall see what happens.  There is no question Keene has to get better.  I'll be sure to follow that Plattsburgh/Middlebury game next week.  The Cardinals stuffed them last year if I remember correctly.

The reason I was surprised that Plattsburgh was favored is that Massey had Keene ranked ahead of the Cardinals going into that game. He had the Owls ranked at #46 and Plattsburgh was ranked #51. Plus he has the LEC ranked #9 in the conference rankings while the SUNYAC is ranked  #21. Throw in the fact that the game was being played at Keene and usually that would make Keene a slight favorite.   I know we pounded the Owls last year but that was an aberration in the series and Keene didn't have Doyle playing in that game. Plattsburgh has played a tougher schedule but by the end of the year Massey has Keene's strength of schedule slightly better than the Cardinals.  I just thought that Keene would have been a slight favorite, based on all those facts, instead of the other way around. Just knew it would be a close game.

We did beat Middlebury rather handily last year in their house but that was also an unexpected result. The score was 63-47 and it was the lowest point total the Panthers had put up in 6 years. Usually these 2 teams go at each other tooth and nail.  Regardless of the kind of season they are having, this game is always close. The Panthers appear to be considerably stronger than last year and I expect Tuesday's game will be a real dogfight. Massey currently has Plattsburgh favored by 6 points over Middlebury. The Panthers play Salve Regina tonight and the point spread may change slightly before Tuesday's contest based on the results of this game, but I expect the Cardinals will be taking on another undefeated, 8-0 team, when they meet the Panthers.

Good morning amh63,

Amherst will have to get by Utica College in the hockey tournament before they get a chance at my Cardinals. ;) Utica doesn't have as gaudy a record as the Lord Jeffs, but they have played some common opponents with similar results. Still I expect the Cardinals Winter Classic championship game tomorrow evening to be a matchup of Amherst and Plattsburgh. And it should be a dandy.

Regarding the Middlebury-Plattsburgh State basketball game on Tuesday...there is a webcast of that game. You need to visit the website of the home team if you see that there isn't a video webcast listed on the D3hoops scoreboard. Many times the D3hoops scoreboard doesn't show a video link, when, in fact, a webcast is available. I always check the website of the home team if there is a game I really hope to see and the scoreboad doesn't give me a video link. More often than not I can get a video link when I go to the teams website. Usually the best place to find that link is to pull up the teams schedule and click on details for that particular game, but many times the team will have a link on the basketball homepage.  I see that the Middlebury-Plattsburgh game on the D3hoops scoreboard for Tuesday only shows a Livestats link. There is, however a webcast for that game and it is a very good quality production. The webcast is accompanied by an excellent team of broadcasters and since it's done by an independent company there is no biased commentary. They even have instant replay. The webcast is as good or better than any in the country. Here is the link for that webcast on Tuesday:

The game will be starting at 5:30 PM so it will just about be over by the time your Lord Jeffs take the floor at 7:00 PM. Sounds like a good night for a double header for you!!! ;D I, of course, will be court side and I always sit in back of the Cardinal bench but I'm up at the top of the bleachers in the very last row. Not sure you'll get a chance to see my smiling face but I'll be the guy wearing a tan hat that has Saratoga written on the front.  I hope there is a smile on my face if you do pick me out of the crowd, cause I won't be smiling if we're behind. ;D

Yes -- our scoreboard generally only has links for schools who choose to add them. If a school doesn't add links, we may not have the manpower to do it for them.

You told me that 2 years ago, I think it was, and that's why I always go to a team's website if the D3hoops scoreboard doesn't show a video link. I'm a quick learner. ;D

Just sharing that detail with the rest of the posters here. :)

One game scheduled today involving a SUNYAC team.

New Paltz State at Roanoke College    4:00 PM

The Hawks travel south to play an ODAC team that Oneonta tangled with 2 weeks ago. Oneonta managed to beat the Maroons by an 81-69 final score that day and Roanoke has had 1 game since then which also resulted in a loss by a 76-62 score to Marymount University. It was the 2nd time Marymount defeated Roanoke this year, having beaten the Maroons back on the opening day of the season. Roanoke's record stands at 5-4 for the year.

New Paltz is making the long trip south and only playing one game. Seems a little strange. It's a long way to travel for a singleton and even longer when the ride home is after a loss. I'd like to pick the Hawks to win this game but their 2-5 record doesn't leave me with a whole lot of hope for that to happen. The point spread favors the home team by a double digit 11 point margin. I'm thinking that the Hawks will keep it a little closer than that but will still absorb their 6th loss of the year. Final score will be Roanoke 76 New Paltz 69.

magicman

New Paltz trails Roanoke College 33-30 at the break.

Kevin Roach with 12 points to lead the Hawks. R.J. Rosa is next with 10 points.

Apparently the Hawks will play tomorrow as this is a 4 team tournament. When I looked at the D3hoops team page earlier today there was no game listed for tomorrow. It showed the Hawks next game to be a conference matchup on January 6th at Cortland. I thought it was strange that the Hawks would go all the way to Virginia for 1 game. I should have checked their website.

New Paltz will play either Eastern University or Swarthmore College at either 12 PM or 2 PM depending on the outcome of today's game.

Final score just in:
New Paltz loses to Roanoke College 77-69. As you can see from my above quote my crystal ball predicted this game as a 76-69 win for Roanoke. Missed it by a single point.

New Paltz State vs Eastern University     12:00 PM

It's the Hawks against the Eagles in a match up of birds of prey. New Paltz may have found an opponent they can grab another win against as the Eagles are roosting near the bottom of the MAC Freedom conference with a 3-7 record, not much better than the Hawks 2-6 record. The oddsmakers have made Eastern a slim 1 point favorite so the game is basically a crapshoot. I'll take a chance and go with the Hawks here even though I said I probably wouldn't pick them again after they lost to Utica. I think the final score could be a 72-69 New Paltz victory.

magicman

New Paltz leads Eastern 49-37 with 12 minutes left in the game. Go Hawks

Medaille College at Cortland State  2:00 PM

The Medaille Mavericks take on their third team from the SUNYAC (1 more to go as they host Fredonia on Jan. 27th) and are looking for their first win against a YAC team since November of 2011. They have went 0-6 in that time span losing 4 games last year and both contests so far this year. (Losses at Buff St. and Geneseo)

Cortland won a close game at Medaille last year winning 61-59 and the Red Dragons would like to keep their unbeaten streak alive with a victory today. Medaille gave Geneseo all they could handle earlier, only losing by an 80-77 margin and they managed to defeat Empire 8 favorites, St John Fisher, at Fisher's home court in a nailbiter, 68-67. So the Red Dragons better not take the Mavericks too lightly here. The point spread favors Cortland by a double digit 11 point margin. I think that might be a bit high. I'm taking the Red Dragons to win but I think it will be a final score of 78-71.
