SUNYAC looking like its getting really tight. Oswego and Plattsburgh still tied at the top. Hopefully Oswego can win the home game against Plattsburgh. Many teams are within striking distance of two teams tied at first. About 6-7 teams who can win the conference. Going to get interesting

Maybe a little off topic for this board Magicman.....were you at the WBB game between Bowdoin vs Middibury in Pepin Gym on Sunday afternoon.
Thought I saw Coach Curle in the stands and a man with a women sitting behind the Coach wearing a bright Red Sweatshirt...Cardinal colors!
Thought about giving you a call...afraid ou were out pushing snow. Around :)

amh63,
You were right, Coach Curle was there, along with his wife and other daughter. I wanted to go but the snow storm kept me home. I pushed snow around, then watched the game online and plowed more snow afterward. Happy that Bowdoin won...unhappy that Ms. Curle did not get to the free throw line. I believe she may drop off the NCAA Free Throw Percentage list because she no longer has 2.5 made free throws per game. :(

It's Tuesday and some good games are on tap.  No predictions here ( that's magicians specialty) however its hard to ignore how close the conference is with 5/6 games left.

New Paltz vs Oswego, with New Paltz winning the first 1 and upsetting Plattsburgh last week, New Paltz must be feeling good. A win by New Paltz would tie them with Oswego. Oneonta  vs Cortland with Oneonta winning the first matchup. A win by Oneonta would tie them with Cortland. Buffalo state vs Geneseo. No matter who wins they won't be tied but a close race could actually get CLOSER tomorrow night!

Plattsburgh finishes with Brockport, Cortland, Geneseo, Oswego and Potsdam. No easy road by any means. Oswego has 2 of the same , Cortland, Geneseo along with New Paltz, Potsdam and Plattsburgh. Both Plattsburgh and Oswego are the only 2 that can finish 14-4 so they are definilty the front runners as we speak. That road is definitely not easy for either, but both Plattsburgh and Oswego have shown that they can rise to the occasion when needed. 4 teams with 5 losses and 2 with 6 losses lurking close behind. Talk about controlling your own destiny!

I used to wonder why magician goes to his favorite place and tunes in 3/4 computers to watch Sunyac basketball.  Now I know! Gonna be checking live stats myself tomorrow !  Gotta love  this stuff. It's what makes college basketball the greatest game on earth.

13 wins may get you home court for the playoffs.  12 wins should get you in the playoffs.  And 11 wins may possibly have you at home watching. If this ain't gut wrenching then there's no snow in Plattsburgh!!!!! ;)

Huge night for the SUNYAC with big games for Oswego and New Paltz along with Geneseo/ Buff State and Oneonta and Cortland. Brockport cant afford to lose tonight at Fredonia if they want to stay in the mix and i dont think they will.

Four games on tap today all starting at 5:30 PM

New Paltz State  at  Oswego State        5:30 PM

The Hawks are looking to sweep the Lakers which could vault them into a 2nd place tie if Buff State falls to Geneseo. Lakers let one get away the last time they met. Oswego has lost 3 of their last 5 conference games, the Hawks have won 3 of their last 5. Point spread favors the Lakers by a 6 point margin. I think they win be a few more. I'll take the Lakers by a 74-66 final...but I hope I'm wrong about this one.

Geneseo State  at  Buffalo State        5:30 PM    The Game of the Day

The Bengals and Knights are 2 of the 4 teams with 5 losses. Somebody goes home with loss #6 tonight. Buff State won a squeaker 87-86 at Geneseo last month and the Knights need a win here to keep alive their hopes of a bye in the YAC tournament. The same can be said for the Bengals. The odddsmakers predict another tight contest with the Bengals listed as a 2 point favorite. Buffalo State has went 9-2 in their last 11 conference games and both those losses have been against Plattsburgh. If Buffalo State can keep Gordon Lyons under wraps they should win this one but that's not an easy thing to do. Still I like the Bengals' guard play to win out over Mr. Double Double Lyons. Bengals' guard Rod Epps had 30 points and forward Chris Thompson had 27 the last time these teams met. I think Chris Cartwright and Jordan Glover (who missed the last meeting) may be a big factor tonight. I'll go with the hot team and take the Bengals to walk off with a 83-77 victory here.

Brockport State  at  Fredonia State        5:30 PM

The Golden Eagles need a win here and some help from other sources to get back into a playoff position. Currently all alone in 8th place they could move up 1 spot if they win tonight and Oneonta loses to Cortland. Then with 3 straight home games coming up they stand a chance of climbing even further up the ladder. The point spread has them winning this game by a 10 point margin and they should cover that spread. I see a final score of 75-62 in favor of Brockport.

Oneonta State  at  Cortland State        5:30 PM

The Battle of the Red Dragons Round Two. A win by Oneonta would pull them even with Cortland with identical 8-6 records and Oneonta, by virtue of the season sweep, would hold that all important tie breaker. Cortland struggled against Oneonta in the 2nd half of their earlier matchup as Zach Mager (19) and Mikey McElroy (16) combined for 35 2nd half points and outscored the Cortland team (31 2nd half points) all by themselves. I don't think that will happen this time around and nother do the oddsmakers who have installed Cortland as a 6 point home favorite. While I don't think Oneonta will bury Cortland like they did 11 days ago, I do think that Oneonta will win this game. It will be closer but Oneonta comes away with a crucial road win by a 73-70 final.

Halftime scores:

Cortland 36  Oneonta 33
Lamard Herron with 7 points and Justin Prendergast with 6 to lead Cortland

Lawrence Coleman with 9 points. Zach Mager and Jack Dignan with 6 each for Oneonta.

Buffalo State 43   Geneseo State 42
Rod Epps with 16 points to lead the Bengals. Lovell Smith with 12 points and 8 rebounds. Jordan Glover with 9 points

Gordon Lyons with 20 points at the break to lead the Knights. Also has a team high 6 rebounds. James McKenna with 11 points and Andy Drescher with 9.

Oswego all over New Paltz 39-23 at the half
Alex Rawa leads the Lakers with 12 points. Kyle Covely and Walter Sampson both have 6 points.

Alex Perlman with 10 points is high man for the Hawks. Taylor Sowah has 7.

Brockport 38 Fredonia 35 at the half.

Patrick Modzelewski with 10 points and Clifton Lyerly with 8 for the Golden Eagles.

Kyree Hull with 7 points and Tommie Banks with 6 points for Fredonia.

Crunch time in Buffalo as Geneseo leads the Bengals 75-72 with 40 seconds left to play. Bengals with the ball take a timeout

Bengals' Cartwright drives to the hoop and misses. Knights' Andy Drescher with the rebound and gets fouled. He makes 1 of 2 to make it a 2 possession game. Bengals misfire again and foul Jack Eisenberg who makes them both.

Bengals come down and miss a 3 pointer, get the rebound and miss a lay up. Gordon Lyons gets fouled with 7 seconds left and it really doesn't matter when he misses them both as this game is history. Bengals miss a 3 at the buzzer and the final score is

Geneseo State  78 Buffalo State 72

magicman

Brockport in a much tougher battle than I anticipated as the Blue Devils have hung tough in this one and trail by an 82-79 score with 11 seconds left to play. That would be as close as they get however as the game goes final by that 82-79 score.

Here is the SUNYAC standings after today's games:

Oswego State             10-4     14-7
Plattsburgh State         9-4      14-6
Geneseo State             8-5      12-8
Buffalo State               9-6      13-8
Oneonta State             8-6*    11-10
Cortland State             8-6      15-6
New Paltz State          8-6       10-11
Brockport State          7-6       10-10
Potsdam State           1-12      2-17
Fredonia State           1-14      2-18

*Oneonta State holds the tiebreaker over Cortland and New Paltz by virtue of a season sweep of both teams. Technically they are in 5th place. Cortland and New Paltz are tied for 6th place. The have split their season series but New Paltz owns victories against Oswego, Plattsburgh and Geneseo. Cortland has wins over Plattsburgh and Geneseo. They will have to beat Oswego and Plattsburgh the next time they play them to gain the tiebreaker edge over New Paltz.
